  1. Curious to know what advantage it is having a full Bub exhaust ... anyone?
  2. As many of you know, I'm a computer tech....been in the biz for 22 years and last night and this morning have been the worst experience I've ever had ... thought I'd share it coz no matter how bad something is... there's bound to be humour in it. Sunday my son brings his computer over to me to fix. It boots up with the "Blue Screen of Death" with the message UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. No biggie...been there, done that and I had it fixed in 20 minutes. Last night I planned to take it over to his house... me and Nina would go for a ride on the scoot. I set the computer on the trunk rack...looks pretty stable... then walked away to grab some bungee cords and......OMG!!! it's sliding off!!! and before I could do anything it crashed to the floor breaking the case open, plastic front panel smashed to pieces... OH NO!!!... Take it upstairs and plug it all in.... nothing! ... nada... zip ... it has power but nothing comes up on the monitor..nothing at all. Neither the monitor light or the CPU light turn green like they normally do and the hard drive just clicks once but doesn't spin up. No bout a doubt it...the motherboard is shot! Ok, so I bring his hard drive in to work this morning to test it out on one of the PC's here... I open up one of the computers here and unplug the hard drive...then plug the hard drive from my son's machine in and set the hard drive on top of the corner of the open CPU box.. then I reach back to plug the power cord in and bump the hard drive, knocking it off and onto the motherboard. (&^$#@!!!&*... and more *&!!!@##) So I pick it up and set it back on the edge and power up the computer... nothing...nada ... no workie ... just like my son's. Ok, so I plug the hard drive back in that was in the system to begin with... same thing... nothing... Crap!!... so I open up another computer (both were working before I started this) and take the hard drive out of it and plug it into the first machine...same thing... nothing. I then test all the hard drives (including my son's) in the second machine and all are working. So, it looks like I've CRASHED 2 computers in the last 18 hours!! .... WHAT NEXT??? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH :crying: Unfortunately, the PC at work is now off warranty to boot! Oh well, it's good for parts and at least my son's hard drive is still working so he hasn't lost everything.
  3. When I had my '87 I sat here and watched while others scored great deals on immaculate scoots ... I couldn't take it anymore ... I was sooo envious! and so I made the plunge and scored a great deal on my '06 Midnight. Now I sit here and see what a great deal you got on such a great looking ride and dang ... I'm envious again! Congrats!
  4. yup ... it's where the Kootenays are.... and, they are also as far over as what is known as South East British Columbia .... People think Texas is BIG... BC is way bigger
  5. heck... I thought EVERYONE knew where that is... only the BEST motorcycling area in all of North America! Located in South Central British Columbia, Canada ... eh http://www.kootenaysbc.com/
  6. I vote for friesman1 (Brian) ... he and a couple others did a great job organizing Kruisin the Kootenays! And on that note... I suggest that as a place (yes, I know it's far for many but it's sure close for me! ).
  7. I've not even looked at my shifter linkage so no idea if it's the same as my 1st gen's (I think it is) but... I've found that if the adjuster is out of whack it will affect shifting.
  8. Both my '85 and my '87 temp gauges ran close to the red most of the time and according to what I've read about this...it's quite normal so if someone's gauge is reading in the middle or, like your's, maybe the gauge is whacky?
  9. Thanks!
  10. That "may be true"; however they are FAR BETTER at taking a person's hard earned money!
  11. Chuck... man your situation really sucks ... I feel for your dilemma. Having said that, does one not release a shop from such liability when a work order is signed? Wouldn't a person's insurance cover such a thing...after all, it is theft, regardless of how and where.
  12. I really don't think re-jetting will do anything .... but plugging the AIS (I think that is the acronym for it) might.... do a search...I've read several posts about this. I have the RK's on mine with the baffles removed (almost like straight pipes) and I get a lot of popping on decel too. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39167&highlight=plugging+ais http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39124&highlight=plugging+ais http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39089&highlight=plugging+ais these might help
  13. aka anti-squeal .... as I mentioned earlier. I had similar problems with my front brakes almost since new (bike only had 1300 kilometers when I bought it). I applied the grease (anti-squeal) between the pads and the caliper (piston area) and it went away immediately.
  14. What do you mean by "full exhaust"??? can you be more specific? Most exhaust mods don't require re-jetting (that I know of).
  15. ok so if you figgure it might be an exhaust leak, wouldn't you be able to hear it? very puzzling!
  16. glad to hear Stud is there and hope he gets his scoot back on the road quick. Hey, what is it with us Canucks when we head south of the border for a rally and we break down??

  18. could it be a rush of air when the fan comes on?
  19. Thinking back to when I test rode my '87 before I bought it... Overall looks ... was it dingy or clean...was the chrome in good condition ... engine guards all corroded or crappy looking ... condition of paint, visible signs of cracks or broken plastic, etc The ride ... did it feel solid or loose... unusual or concerning sounds from engine or trans...did it shift smoothly... did it run smoothly...braking and condition of them Electrical, etc... did everything work. One thing I knew at the time was that the trunk base was cracked and repaired. There was a lot of "rattling" coming from the fairing when going over bumps. I found out later that some of the inner fairing plastic pieces were very loose and some of the various tabs were broken. I didn't see it at the time but both bags had cracks in them. ABS stuff can easilly be fixed.... mechanical must be solid... electrical, depending on what it is can also easilly be fixed. Thankfully, I got a solid bike with the exception of the ABS which I later fixed and repainted.
  20. I've had an '85 and then an '87 ... loved both bikes but I wanted something new or almost new so I got my '06 RSMV. LOVE the bike! Love the looks, love the ride, love the lack of all that ABS...so much easier to work on. Wife loves it better too. The Whine and engine sounds are annoying but livable. I found that I don't ride it as aggressively as either of my 1st gen's nor does it have the "OOOMPH" that they did but it's quick enuf! LOVE the BLACK but a real PITA to keep clean. Go for it! Ride before you buy.
  21. Funny thing about all this is, it's essentially the same engine as in the 1st gen MKII. My '87 engine was TONs quieter and NO WHINE. Yamaha must have changed engine parts suppliers somewhere between the end if the 1st gen and the beginning of the 2nd gen. And now, there's even one more whine .... me whining about this!!
  22. I did get an opportunity yesterday to ride a fellow member's 1999 RSV and all I can say is, I'm happy my whine isn't like his. He tried mine out to see if he would like the RK's so maybe once he installs them, the whine will be less noticable.
  23. nice bike but since when does a cat require a key??? 1972 bike
  24. It may for some but did absolutely nothing for me...just an FYI for those who have read all the rave reviews and are expecting good things.
  25. izzat the one that is standing out "like a sore thumb" ???
