  1. Today is the day!! Tommorow we order the shirts. This is one great event.
  2. Black Owl- Were you looking for www.iboats.com? Normally, though, you have to go to neutral first to prevent damage to the gears Dave
  3. We have 21+ riders already registered. Don't miss out on this great rally!! Dave
  4. Bike: 1988 1st Gen Class System Done: Resoldered pins swapped for the working unit in my '86 There doesn't seem to any electric power to the unit at all. I started doing the electric troubleshooting as listed in the repair manual 7-91. No readings above .001VDC. The book indicates that there is a fuse going to the unit. Does anyone know which fuse box and which fuse within. I did check the ACC fuse in the box on top of the battery and it is working correctly. I really appreciate any direction available. Dave
  5. I don't know about flying but I have seen you float down the road!
  6. It's time to ride!!! Here are a couple of rides I've been toying with: [/url]Beartooth Chief Joseph loop and Old Faithful - Cody I hope the links work. Of course, once in the park you can go all over, except the section between Madison Jct and Gibbon Falls is closed for the rest of the season according the Yellowstone Park website. Dave
  7. During the high school days (that's a while ago), I had a CB in the car. Everyone had their "handle" and went to channel 19 as a call channel. Truckers usually went on 17 back then. Fast forward to 2009 and it has changed a lot. I still hear a few truckers chatting briefly on 19. I haven't heard of a motorcycle channel before but it wouldn't suprise me if that use to be the case. A local group in SLC uses channel 1 on it's rides, I believe GWRRA uses 39 and I'm pretty sure that VR.org has used 29. It would be interesting to hear about some of the old handles out there. I was "Indian Wagon". That came from the 1964 Pontiac station wagon I drove. How about others? What was your handle and what was it's origin? Dave
  8. Pleeeeease post Peggy!!
  9. 1 days remaining for shirts guaranteed at Cody!! To all you great VentureRiders out there!! The Cody Roundup will happen in less than a month and the deadline for ordering shirts etc so they can be available at the rally is 8/23/09 - less than a week away. So, now is the time to get your registration/order form completed and sent in. It's going to be a great get together, so don't delay any longer. See ya in Cody. Dave
  10. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A lot of the destinations listed refer to the beautiful west coast. I have never ridden there but have no doubt that it should be done (and I plan on doing it also) but there are some gorgeous areas in southern Utah. Not far off of I-70 are four National Parks, Arches, Canyonlands, Zions and Bryce Canyon. If you plan on doing the west coast, I would plan on stopping and spending some time either on the way out or the way back at these scenic locations. Arches and Zions are by far the better of the four, Bryce Canyon is short (less than 1/2 day) and Canyonlands is a lot of overlooks unless you really like to backpack/hike. Spring or Fall are the best times but can be visited almost year round on bikes. Dave
  11. Brian- When I updated some information a little while ago, I had to delete what I no longer wanted from the signature area and then save it, as though I didn't have any other changes. I then went back into the signature area and added the new information. Worth a try! Dave
  12. Good test. Did it also on medium. 20/20 Signs 18/20 Road Hazards Thanks!
  13. Frank- The seat mod by Rick Butler is a butt saver on the 1st gen seats. Get the mod and a backrest and you'll be glad you did. I have pegs, floorboards and highway pegs on my '86 and I like the variety of foot positions this gives me. On the '88, I only have regular pegs and highway pegs. Being able to change foot positions, also helps you change your butt position and enables longer riding. My wife's Sportster has the forward controls. We are looking right now into adding traditional midpoint pegs for the same reason. The forward controls force her to sit, rolled back onto her tailbone. Good luck Dave
  14. When I painted the trunk on mine to match that color scheme, I took the side panel into the local automotive paint store and they matched it up. I posted the paint codes on here but I can't find them any longer (maybe deleted because of age). They matched the black great, the gold is a little different (but I'm the only one that's every noticed), a very little different. I look forward to seeing the completed version pics. Dave
  15. I have a Utopia on my '86 and it restricts Jan's room also. I have the quick release, so, I just pull the backrest when we ride 2 up. Jan has her own bike and would rather ride it than be on the back of mine (no, I don't scare her - at least not while I ride). Dave
  16. the idle screw is a thumb screw and no tools are necessary to adjust it. It's located on the left side of the bike. Remove the side cover and the idle screw can be seen when looking from low on the bike up in between the carb on that side, tucked up underneath (behind) the sync screw. easy to adjust. Dave
  17. Here's at least one organization stating that this is a fraud: Link Aren't some people just amazing? Dave
  18. Sorry you won't be able to make it this trip. Stash the info in the back of your mind and plan on another trip. Have a great trip though! Dave
  19. As I read through the postings, it sounds to me more like what some of the others have experienced when having issues with the ignition switch going bad. There is a thread with instructions to bypass the switch. It may be worth consideration so you can enjoy the remainder of your trip. The other thought that comes to mind is the TCI (do you have that on the 2nd Gen bikes?) Best of luck on a quick, effective repair. Dave
  20. We rode over Beartooth in July 2007. It rained on the way east and we were warm enough with our rain gear (watch out for the 737 sized mosquitos) and it was sunny on the way back west a couple of days later. Again we were warm enough in a sweatshirt for me and a leather jacket for my son. Check the weather just before hand and be prepared for cooler temps. Deb- how was it just recently? Dave
  21. Here's a map showing a number of rides around the Cody, WY area we'll be going to in September, including Beartooth Pass. If you get to Beartooth Pass through Yellowstone, you exit the park through the NE entrance/exit (Cooke City). You'll ride through the Lamar Valley, home of a huge herd of Buffalo. Don't be surprised if you have to stop while they are crossing the road. Dave
  22. From Elko, you could veer north and go through Yellowstone and over Beartooth Pass. Both a well worth the time (or extra time). Either way be safe and if you need something in SLC, let us know. Dave
  23. James- You are in our prayers. Have a speedy recovery! Dave
  24. Not knowing your timeframe or what vehicles you have, here is an idea. For the money you're talking, buy a large trailer and load up what you need and/or must keep. Have a garage sale on the rest of the stuff and head for Texas. Once you get settled in Texas, sell the trailer and recoup most, if not all of the cost of the trailer and repurchase what you couldn't fit but would enjoy having in Texas. Depending on the size trailer you can get, you should be able to pack quite a bit of stuff in the space left over after loading the bike! Dave
