  1. Rez, Check the pipe clamps. When I installed my MACs, I didn't pay attention to the position of the clamps and they extended into the path of the stand holding it down. Repositioned the clamps and everything was OK. DJ
  2. When you leave Laughlin, head south on 95 through Bullhead City and Mojove Valley until you come to a large sign on your right that says to turn right to the Avi resort. Turn left instead and head up to Oatman. Old Gold mining town Lots of donkeys, a shootout on Main Street and the Oatman Hotel with lots of history. Make sure and get one of their Buffalo Burgers and fries. Great food. Head north out of Oatman on old 66 and around the mountain to Kingman. Great ride.
  3. Prayers and thanks to your Nephew. My Nephew recently returned from southern Afganistan. 10th Mountian Fox. I really feel prayers kept him alive. DJ

    Paint Help.

After a thorough cleaning and scuffing with, perhaps, red Scotchguard, you need to apply a thin but even coat of Zinc Chromate primer before applying any primer or surfacer. This will provide proper adhesion on the aluminum. Good Luck DJ
  5. Sounds like a great ride. What route did ya take through Utah and Nevada? DJ
  6. On the way from picking up my 93 (about 100mile ride) I noticed the whine you describe. Was a little un-nerving but by the time I got home, I realized it was gear noise amd checked all the fluids. All OK. After reading here about the straght cut gears in the VR, It was obvoius to me that that is the nature of the beast. (kinda like the trans in an old Mac truck) I changed to Amsoil 20-50 Motorcycle specific and that helped a little, but still there after several thousand miles. DJ
  7. Howdy Bruce, I have the Kury Duely offsets on my 93 and love them. Last I was there Jay out at Southvalley Motorsports parts dept. had a set in stock with the 1 1/8" mounts. Might want to give them a look.:mo money: BTW, welcome to the group. Lotsa great info and help around here. DJ
  8. On a recent trip from Salt Lake to Havasu Just outside Vegas, I started noticing billboards about Motorcycle Awareness. None in California (very short stretch to cross) But they were allover in Arizona. DJ
  9. Keep us posted along the way if you can. Wish I could ride along, but business does not allow. Have a great time!! DJ
  10. My wife gave me an Ipod-Shuffle for my b-day. On my 93, I went to Wally World and picked up a Phillips cassette adapter, plugged it into the tape deck and set the wires under the deck cover with just enough wire out to plug it into the Shuffle. Put a small peice of velco on the Shuffle and the deck cover on the furthermost right lower corner. Runs on it's own battery for 12 hrs and carries about 20 hours of music. Works great.
  11. I really considered the Avons, but too much talk about "Tank Slapping" on the 1st Gens. I was really suprised that none of the tire vendors I spoke to seemed to have a clue about the Metz shedding pieces. One claimed to be the largest MC tire dealer in the state. Said he sold Metz 2-to-1 over any other brand and hasn't made a single warranty claim. (yeah right, says it all doesn't it) He had the venoms in stock but tried to talk me out of them as he said they have sidewall problems. ( What??) Left that place lookin' sideways! I heard the same rumor and have enjoyed the EIIs that I have now. Went into Cycle Gear looking for other stuff and ended up in the tire section. Helpful young feller asked if he could help and just incase I asked if they had any EIIS in stock. Said not at this store, but looked in the computer and said he found them in stock at another. "Order'em" says I, and handed him some cash. Three weeks later, NO SOAP so went lookin around town. Found the Commanders and will hav'em mounted when she goes in for service. DJ
  12. Ken, I used the Longhorn Offsets. They are a little pricey, but I like them alot. They have almost unlimited adjustment and I have adjusted mine several times to get just the feel I like. Quality is good and they are very comfortable. DJ
  13. Well, having ordered a set of 491s from Cycle Gear and waiting 3 weeks with no show, I decided it was time to try something else. Shoping the tire stores around here, most only carried the Metzlers in the sizes I need. Most of the dealers really push the Metz and praise them to the max. Just about fell for the sales deal, but went back and reviewed all the comments about the 880s and thought better of it. Checked around for the Michelins with no luck until I called my buddy at Southvalley Motorsports, and sure enough old Jay came through again. A brand new pair of Commanders with my name on'em. The reviews are great on the Commanders, but I haven't read about anybody running them on a 1st Gen. Anyone ride them? What do you think? I'll be trying to wear some out soon. Thanks DJ :mo money:
  14. I bought this for my from 93 Wingstuff. Inexpensive and works great. http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/2310_J_M_HS8154_Headset_for_Goldwing_w_1Piece_Cord DJ
  15. I really like mine!! The hardest part of installation was replacing the seals. The rest is just nuts and bolts. I had to go the hardware store and get longer bolts and washers for shims. My Markland hitch complicated things abit because it uses the pipe mount bolts to anchor the front of the hitch mount. I think it took longer to do the running around after I found out what I needed than it did to install the pipes. Very distinctive sound, like no other bike on the road. Kinda sounds like a pair of Harleys at idle, and alot like a souped up Ford Flat-Head with Smittys running up. DJ
  16. Yep, Speed week is alotta fun, and the ride up through Jackson Hole and Yellowstone is spectacular. Haven't done it on a bike yet, but many times in a cage. You'll love it. The ride up Snake River Canyon would be a real kick on a scooter. Good luck Either route would be a nice ride, but I would much prefer the ride down through Bryce and Bridges. Take old 89 out of Spanish fork and then then south out of Thistle Junction through Fairview, Ephriam, Manti and Salina then over and south to Bryce. Lots'a great roads, many interesting places to stop, great 2-lanes and beautiful mountians. Jealous of yer trip. Ride safe, DJ
  17. In another thread, I mentioned that I had taken the back roads headed towards Wendover. There is a morning or afternoon ride out west of Salt lake that I really enjoy. South on I15 to Bangerter to Redwood Road, South on Redwood to SR73 (Lehi Crossroads), West on SR73 through Cedar Fort and South to Fairfield. The Old Camp Floyd and Stagecoach Inn are real interesting If you are into Utah History. West through 5mile Pass Turning left at the Faust Cutoff. West and stop at the Pony Express Monument just to look around and mabey see some antelope. On to Faust Station (old railroad stop) and on to the Vernon Highway. South To Vernon and stop at a little place called the "Silver Sage Cafe". Very small but nice folks and Great food. Then head north to St. John (Ruch Valley) turn left through town to and over Johnson's Pass down through the farms into Skull Valley. Drops you onto the highway just north of Dugway Prooving Grounds. (large military post, very secret) Turn North for a nice ride to I80 and from there you can either head West to Wendover, East to Salt Lake City, or around the mountain to the Grantsville exit into Grantsville. I like to head into Grantsville Grab a little gas and head over to Tooele then south to Stockton and back to SR73 through 5mile Pass and back to Redwood road. Great 160-180 mile ride and alot of great roads where you can let the old girl run a little and wonderful desert sceenery. Have fun and ride safe. DJ
  18. 2 If'idas. Ifi'da come out Saturday, or Ifi'da checked in for a schedule, might'a hooked up. I went in by the back roads so I even missed ya'll goin the other way on 80. Would have been a kick just to get a glimpse of the crew. Sorry folks. Back to the business at hand. DJ
  19. I meant sunday before last. Boy time sure does go by fast these days.
  20. They do noisey up abit after they are on for awhile. Got about 1800 on mine by now and they ARE impressive when ya get on the throttle. BTW, I rode out early last Sunday morning. Thought I might catch ya'll in Wendover and ride in, but I geass I missed ya by about an hour. Couldn't make it Saturday. but it was a nice ride anyway. Wish I could'a made it to Ft. Collins, but just couldn't happen. DJ
  21. I installed the Kriss Industries Starburst a couple of months ago. Easy to install and I am convinced that it has saved my bacon more than ounce. There is a light sensor that is included that turns the modulator off in dim light. The modulator works on high beam, so you can turn it off by switching to low beam. At night the headlamp works normally. DJ
  22. Condor got a bunch for us the first time around. Got mine installed and love'em. Check out my Photo Gallery to get a look at mine. Thanks Jack, DJ
  23. Well, Got done buyin' me some new tires and a feller on a new Big Dog pulls up as I am mounting my ride. We exchange pleasantries, I light the scoot and head out the parking lot. The exit from the parkinglot is steep uphill to a stop sign with an imediate down to the street curb. As I come to a stop, front wheel one side of the hump, rear on the other, my left foot catches the pavemnent and down we go. I have to say, I made a very graceful roll backwards as I gently let her down on the guards. Had to look and see if anyone had seen and noticed the feller on the Big Dog was walking my way with a big grin on his face. My pride being abit bruised, I recalled the "Stand-up" strategy described on this forum, and before he could get to me, I had the old girl back on her tires. Blushed a little and thanked the Big Dog feller for coming to my aide, fired her up and made a little noise leaving. DJ
  24. Was out tire shopping Saturday. Was looking at the Elite IIIs but couldn't find the size for the front. Everywhere I went they said they wouldn't be out until October. Finally stopped in at a local Cycle Gear store and found the same thing. The sales feller tried to sell me Metzlers but I really wanted the Dunlops. I mentioned that if I could find a set of Elite IIs I'd buy them in a heartbeat. Feller says we have alot of stores, lets see if I can find some. Sure enough he found 2 sets on the computer so I bought one set of the IIs. Supposed to be here some time this week. $101 for the front , $119 for the rear. A bit pricey, but I really like the 491s. :mo money: DJ
  25. Boy, I wish I had had some kinda recorder on the bike on Saturday. Took on 3 bagged out Harleys on a long, hard canyon pull. Those pipes turned heads as I went by. 1st Genners better get onboard before the offer runs out!! DJ
