  1. Flyinfool...Actually did think about making it hot all the time. The way it is set up a switch would be easy, but can just leave the key on as needed for now. The bluetooth adapter I made allows music to be played and controlled without the phone plugged in but it seems to cut out when in the trunk. No worries, it's a stopgap for the next couple weeks that I am on call. (It's great to be able to use the phone without pulling off the helmet) It will be replaced by a GPS very soon. When I am not on call there's a 60gig ipod that velcros onto the tape deck door. Works perfect for this! Snaggletooth...that light setup is perfect. I am going to steal that LED pod idea but might leave out the switch. Thanks for the input and ideas. I enjoy tinkering on this stuff. Frank
  2. I am curious what the stock mufflers used for a clamp? I have some aftermarket (HD?) slash cuts on mine. Thinking about going back with a stickers cause I don't care for the look of these. Thanks Frank
  3. Thanks! It should be nice to have the harness back there for a trunk light of some sort too. I'm thinking an led strip. Frank
  4. Decided it was time to make it so we could charge cell phones in the trunk. Starting thinking of the best way to make that work and came across this. http://goo.gl/McHpJ seemed like the perfect arrangement and cheap so if I broke one it wasn't the end of the world. cut the entire swivel plug off of it and ran a harness back into the trunk. Ran it right off the battery with a fuse and relay switching it on and off with the bike. A little velcro to hold it in place and we are golden!
  5. About the missing bolts in the middle of the support bracket. I remember reading someone had a problem getting the dealer to believe that the bolts weren't installed. I think they had a few people that had this problem. Ponch might have been one? Did anyone have to fight to prove anything for these repairs? I'm trying to collect any info that might be helpful. Thanks again Frank
  6. In all fairness I don't know the dealer that assembled the bike. I also don't know the history of the bike. It's just frustrating to have less than 3000 miles on and have problems like this. I haven't contacted my local dealer yet. They acted clueless when I called them about transferring the warranty and I have dealt with a couple of their employees in my day job. I will hopefully be going to the dealer 50 miles away in Omaha. They are the ones that took care of the warranty arrangements and seem to have a really good rep. I have sent them a feeler email describing the issue hoping to get some idea if they are going to work with me on this problem. I just hope the repairs don't take a month, we don't get enough decent riding days in NE as it is. The bike itself is the most comfortable thing I have ever riden and I'm afraid my girlfriend would stop talking to me if I sold it :-) This is the first bike I have owned with all the extras and windshield but dealing with this is making me miss my Vmax. As for you guys with the great dealer stories. you have no idea how lucky you are, go spend money with them tomorrow! Keep your for me! Frank
  7. Went to work installing my mic cable that I built into the fairing today. I noticed the windshield is moving more than usual. Found the metal mounting strip is broken out of the yoke in the fairing. So it has 2700 miles and has already broken 2 different pieces. I also did the rear end pin lube the other day. It has warranty so I am hoping the dealer will fix the tab issue. I don't think I should be having this much trouble. The middle bolts were never installed... It had a zip tie there in place of one of the bolts. Do they have monkeys putting these things together? Wondering if I bought the wrong bike? Frank
  8. Congrats on the new ride Steve!! I hear the 2008 model is the best you can buy (I might be biased). As for the brakes mine are noisy too. Might try some of the stuff mentioned around here or I might just replace the stockers with something better. Enjoy the new scooter!! Frank
  9. wow... made me a little sick to see that video of the cop bike in a turn. I have never had anything like that on any bike I have owned. The Vmax moved around a little if you buried the speedo but only if the sissy bar/backrest was on. The Venture seems rock solid at any speed over 5mph. I have always assumed that these kind of HD crashes were operator error/ alcohol induced. Ride safe everyone! Frank
  10. Thanks for the advice. The highway pegs are on there already (kept them from my Vmax) the Utopia backrest I ordered last month and I believe it's due to ship today. Mechanically inclined is always a tricky question. I'm lazier than I used to be Agreed about dealers... besides I don't want to deal with dropping the darn thing off. Thanks again Frank
  11. Took a couple unused helmets to my cousin in Mapleton IA(he just got a bike, but no helmets). So from Lincoln NE to Mapleton IA and back taking the best roads we have here, it totalled about 340 miles. I know that isn't as much as some of you ride but for me and my bad back that is a HAUL. My girl had no real complaints either but we will see how we feel tomorrow. As we were pulling in the garage I notice a noise coming from the rear...creak,creak,creak... thinking it's the pins that everyone talks about. Not happy that it has an issue at less than 2500 miles... but debating if I should just do it myself or let the dealer have at it. I really don't like the dealer here at all. I just hope the pins is all it is. Great day here for a ride! Frank
  12. I did find a place to order custom made covers http://www.brokenarrowleather.com Hopefully I measured them right Frank
  13. I have been down before and I do ride with gloves at times...but my usual motto is underdressed and under prepared. If I put on all the gear I might as well ride in a cage. Besides knowing my luck I will get run over in a gas station parking lot instead of dying on the bike. Frank
  14. Just ran across this...what a cool trailer. Wish I knew who made it Frank
  15. My girl is that height and she gets a bit with the stock windshield but we haven't tried a wider one yet. I did put a vent in the stock windshield and it did seem to help a little with the buffeting she noticed. Let us know how it works! Frank
  16. Where does one find these to fit the Venture? Or are they a universal thing? I like the idea of leather covers. Too damn hot here during riding season for gloves. Frank
  17. If you like them then it's good enough reason to have them. I almost stopped and put a pin wheel on one of my antenna the other day cause I thought my girl would get a giggle out of it. Frank P.S. now how do I get a playing card in my spokes?
  18. I don't want extra stuff hanging off my levers but would like covers so that my fingers aren't black after a ride. I too don't understand the appeal outside of a kids bike but to each their own. Frank
  19. I have been looking for one of these shorter stands too. Anyone know a source that doesn't think they are rare gold? Thanks Frank
  20. I do like how much people mention the HD branding on stuff. Just cause they paid more for it doesn't mean it's actually worth more.
  21. My guess is a problem with the outgoing port settings or email security settings. It does seem odd if it's only emails to you. My solution for things like this is GMAIL... I even have gmail handling all my work emails. Love the setup, love the options, love the price. Frank
  22. A shop next door to me does a lot of the old 2cycle stuff. Wheelies thru the lot are common place. Love seeing this stuff still on the road. Frank
  23. Hey Kreg, If you get this handled please post a run down and review. I'm real curious to see how it turns out. Pics too if you can. Thanks and good luck Frank
  24. No I haven't tried any Nolans at all. Nobody has any of them in stock around here. I am planning some road trips to larger areas and will keep a sharp eye out for motorcycle shops. Maybe I will get lucky? Frank
  25. I have watched reviews till my eyes bled... But somehow I missed that one. I agree he is spot on. Thanks for posting that. Frank
