Where best to post a question about a V-Star 1100 Clutch?
JohnMidnight replied to Semi-retired's topic in General Tech Talk
Mineral Spirits. We use that here at the shop, I've not seen it cause any harm to rubber >.> Mineral Spirits, Brake Parts cleaner + Air Hose (you know to blast away everything else.) -
When the TCI (OEM) failed me for the last time before we figured out why the Ignitech was being screwy (cross wires, incorrect test signal runs) no one stopped for me on the road I was on. No one. Except, for a County Sherrif, who happened to be in the area. Three guys on a rockets waved at me, two Harley guys ignored me... I guess the Venture scares em

Odd.... she should of been re-packed every time that rear tire was removed. The 650 still had lube on it three months prior to the tire replacement in 2009. From 2000-2008 that bike was neglected (by the time the rear drive screwed itself, we had replaced 9 allens that had rusted over) -

Your telling me... I'll stick to drooling over this two tone blue 1500 , mainly: Cheaper Registration, Cheaper Tag payments, cheaper insurance (O.o) OT, yea... you can in theory fit just about anything on the MK2 Ventures -

AS FAR AS I KNOW, you cannot parts the stuff, you actually have the buy the whole rear end. And that's odd, I have a 2000 650 and the only thing I did was ruin the 5th gear setup, shear off a left foot peg, bust the front fender, break the left turning signal lights three times, and shear the splines on the 2nd shaft and the coupler. Overall, she's now under powered--she can no longer exceed 75 MPH. Downhill she'll do 80. Used to do 90 just fine tbh. Not anymore. And she can't be ridden without the Kuryaken big arse bag. Makes her unstable at highway speeds, hahahahaha. But yea... we could not find any seperate peices in the 650 parts mag, except WHOLE parts. I also noticed something horrible. WHERE IS THE GREASE?! THat WHOLE thing should be lubbed up with grease man! ITS BARE! Utterly! 650-1100 need lots of lub, preferably the water ignorant and high temp. NOT high pressure. That kind of lube is what actualyl keeps that drive shaft going! (FYI, when we got my 650, in 2008, it sat since 2000, only had 600 miles on it. By the time the drive shaft sheared, it had 32 thousand on it by 2010 when I took the '90 as my Primary--ironicly enough everyone stopped joking I needed to "upgrade" to something bigger to "I needed a newer bike, lol) -
Just curious, because more or less B12 is a Chemical based fuel treatment, vs SeaFoam a petro based fuel treatment.... 7.99 for SeaFoam here, 4.99 for B12. I will point out, SeaFOam DID save these carbs bacon. and B12 seems to be causing a high idle.

Curious as the pros and cons of one or the either.

First, if you've let the clutch out in first gear and you see that shaft drive is spinning, and your going nO WHERE. Get a damn tow immediately, and yank the drive shaft out. There are three peices of metal that couple together, wrong lub and they strip. Which would explain the funky shifting too. We used the wrong lub in my shaft drive of my 650, damn splines shredded coming around a curve and dumped me out of power. Took six months to get a new shaft cheaper than 500, got the whole darn thing for 310$. >.> Annnnnnnyway. Removing the clutch cover isn't as much of a hassel as it lets on (I removed the 650's clutch cover five times, still wasn't bored.) You might as well check >.> and get it over with. Oh yea, if you ever happen to strip a tranny gear, its less than lethal to the engine, but makes the bike howl! (I stripped my 5th gear) -

All I know, is I can carry my laptop in the trunk, my networking toolkit in the left bag, and my pc repair kit in the right. THESE TOOLS WILL NOT FIT IN A 2008, or a 2012 HONDA GOLD WING! Thats all that matters Though the 1500CC Wings can O.o -
Reserve Tank Question
JohnMidnight replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Have those who've got a stuck pepcock, tried removing it? And clean it? -
Friend of mine built mine, haven't used it, it has three color leds, basically the colors for chp are Red, and white. Red for KA, and White for K band, those are the two that they use, I also got a sensor bar to detect laser, useless tho. There's yellow, and the lights can blend one another. Other lights can go off for the other thans, but I ignore em.

Carb issues
JohnMidnight replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sounds like my carbs on my 90, the gremlins are moving! Except she'll idle at 2K. No vmax kit, sliders are probably sticking..... But they didn't stick when they were off. Worn, but did not stick- 18 replies

Reserve Tank Question
JohnMidnight replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
One thing I have noticed. The 1st bar goes away when 1 gallon is used, and when you see two bars, you've got two gallons left before you hit the 1 gallon reserve. Right now 128 MTaT (Miles to a Tank) Carbs are horribly out of sync. 3&4 were so bad, damn near sucked up mercury into the system. Turns out all of the carbs screws that you twist to sync the carbs were backed ALL THE WAY OUT. -.-' For now, I screwed them all the way IN, then backed them out each 3 whole turns. Looking for someone with a Morgan CarbTuner right now.... I need to sync these babies. (Would of finished, but somehow the bike screwed up my buddies mercury sticks) -
From Hanford California, the American Legion Family who are still selling fireworks, wish everyone here, a Happy, and SAFE 4th of July!! And remember, if its glowing irregularly, DON'T RUN IT OVER!

I've got my old dash set from my 90 upstairs, we replaced it because of the speedo was a little funky (turns out it was the cable, had a nice hole) So it works fine, little faded, but fine.

DynaBeeds. Great idea when you don't expect to experience a flat that requires slime As for the vibrations, make sure the tire is mounted right, and everything is to spec, INCLUDING AIR PRESSURE!!! My Avon Venom-X front HATED 33 PSI on the Venture, so much so, she would become violently unstable over 75. Aired up to 42, not a damn problem. (I did assume it was dynabeads at first. removed em and switched to weights. with the Kendas I will be switching to lead weights and ride on. I can't aford leaks.)

Well, she runs a LITTLE better with some of the parts swapped out onto my old carbs, wont know for sure till tomorrow, or rather today, I have yet to sleep. What sucks is the #4 Carb on both Carbs have the idle screw buggered. Beautiful. Gary, you wouldn't happen to know what causes carb sliders to get rough on one side and smooth on the other? To me, the voices say somethings up with where the slides rests.

Thanks Dingy. My dad the man who's got more knowledge doing this than I... his doing the job. Finding a lot of neat things, and differences. The semi new set (with a few broken things that also prevents us in simply plug in playing) have a slightly larger bore O.o, some of the hose connectors are bigger too. Theres a few other things too, but can't remember. Makes me want something... Like a complete setup of the differences between a CALI 1200 Carb, and Cali 1300 Carb, and a 49 State 1200 Carb, and a 49 State 1300 carb >.>

Any kind of epoxy will work, from JBWelds JBKwik (which it seems our AZ sells the industrial size now) to JBPlastikWeld. All can be sanded etc, after they have cured (NOT DRIED) cured. Learned THAT one the hard way.................................................

I've gone faster on my 1st Gen Lady Blue, fourth gear... I needed to pass six cars, and a semi truck, I had enough time, I gunned fourth gear on. I'm sure the Semi Truck driver doin' 50 was ****tin' himself when I passed his sorry arse, who only NOW after FIVE MILES of straightaway, decided less not do 45. I do know I DID red line the engine to 8000 ish rpm. I do know I WAS doing 123 (go figure) Aside it all, I probably could of upshifted to 5th, but if I remember 5th is OD, not much of a power gear.

Stator Cover
JohnMidnight replied to JohnMidnight's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've got six (6) gaskets for the stator and final drive cover....... I plan to use them. So Black RTV gasket sealant right? K... clean stator cables that we freshly re-run with brake cleaner (case of this, had sale crc) and then use crazy glue on the cloth, okay. Then Permatex RTV Gasket Sealant? Black stuff right? Right... okay. Now, its good the sealant goes to the cover side, as I have not drained the oil, the oil is actually quite fresh... (it is also the 50/50 oil, part synethetic part natural) should I drain the oil completely or what? So sealant and gasket to the cover side. K. I think I've got the right permatex, I'm not sure, its at the house now, I'll post what I picked up. I don't need oil shooting out and coating my saddlebag anymore (or my passenger )
