Which spark plugs to use
Cougar replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
A couple of mechanics have told me over the years that they have seen that those (tiny) tips break off those Iridium plugs. not sure what it would to to your piston or not. I myself have not ever seen that. -

I Found A Way! (adjusting the pilot screws)
Cougar replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Prying........ but more ICE on the way Wednesday! YES.. Please keep in touch Doug! As I said; I am going to do ONE Finding maybe this weekend when I pull that carbs back out just to see how many turns on each carb I came up with. maybe there all back to 2 1/4 .. OR, If I can angle myself right and place my glasses right maybe I can turn them in with the carbs in the bike. but you have to kind of get at an Houdini angle and I could loose my count. -

Gary is right, I did not say that when I was posting. It is a must to do this at idle. I did mine at 1000 RMP's. Guys this is ONLY how I did this and I liked it, some you you will say this is not right etc. I as well am going by a guy that has done it this way for years and really thinks it helps his performance on his RSV. and I believe him. This is like an experiment for me. and I am hoping that it will help. I also am thinking of re-checking after the final sync as well to see if that might even be better, maybe do a full sync first then do the pilot screws next then another sync on top of that. The other way is to buy a $10,000 machine that will also do this as well. I am sure a real pro will chime in and say how this is all wrong.!! As for me , this is the way I will do this in my future carb adjustments. I also still need to let you know what I think of the performance as well when I can ride and up-date my results. I also am pulling my carbs back off JUST to see what the (turns) ended up at. I am just curious to know. Don't tell Freebird that I have it down to 40 minutes to pull my carbs now PEACE.. Jeff -

Cougar replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)

-- So after doing this, did you see an increase in MPG ? No not yet, I will not be able to report anything until the ice is gone off the roads. (might not be until next month) I do notice and feel A huge difference in the way the engine sounds and feels. anything would be great for me as I have converted to a trike and I had lost MPG last year. Cool, these pilot screws, where are they located? There located under the carbs , when new there also under a brass cap that you have to remove. I was glad to see your posting... Doug, keep in touch with me if you can , I am excited to know how and what you think as well. you might be able to have results before me. the way this winter is going around here.! -
AWESOME , That is great to hear! So many crushed washers. I was going CRAZY!

Pilot Air Screw Factory Settings ?
Cougar replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
A friend of mine that has a Venture has a friend that tunes boat motors and other types of engines suggested that I try this method to adjust my pilot screws this way. He has done this for years on his Venture. (gets almost 50 mpg) yes 50 not a typo. he also says the different parts of the country will have a different effect do to climate and altitude. My Starting Point was 2.1/4 turns out. My Findings were just as he described, after doing this I found that my final sync was dead on , carb-tune sticks were not bouncing all over the place, and how smooth the engine is running now. I placed # 3 hose of my carb-tune (pick any hose) I chose that one so I could see better, take one plug cap off at a time and adjust the screw in or out until you reach the highest point on the stick. I have rubber caps on all 4 of my manifolds as I removed the entire AIS System years ago. Put cap back on and go to the next carb, adjust ALL of them separate turning the low speed screw in or out until you reach the sweet spot. Now put all the hoses on and do a full sync. you will be amazed! Peace! Jeff -

Thanks for the info Ponch. Were do you get just the crush washer from Ponch? I will be of to Lowes tomorrow after work. I have had mine off three times now and it still leaks , so the above fix should take care of it! I found that a low profile 7/8th 3/8 drive socket works great to get in that tight spot. I also cut a 10MM Allen to about 2 inches and put a 10mm socket over the top of the Allen to remove the original caps. Thanks for all your hard work! Jeff

Don't forget to read his post he got a older Streetpilot 2730. Jerry your friend probably had a newer type of unit. what was it? As Gunny says Garmin will treat you fair and what I like is that you told them the truth! . I think what is going on is that they must draw the line at some point. I have a older Streetpilot 2600 you can have if you want it. Jeff
