My carbs are completely clogged on left hand side of the engine. I am going to take them off and I am wondering if anyone knows: is there a kit to replace everything in the carb - jets bowls etc..\ where can the best price be had What kind of money would make it best to buy a used set of carbs, I found a set of carbs that just came off a running 83 venture but not sure what they are worth. As alwasy I do appreciate the info and help..

Not wanting to steal thread but this really made me have a question: is the 1200 in the 83 venture a clearance engine? Well I guess I should ask is all the gen 1 clearance engines.. -
Fork Oil Substitutes

It seems as if I read somewhere else also that if you redoing your front forks and if they are new you may wish to stay with a 10 wt... but if your bike has miles/front forks are a little worn you may want to use 15 wt. I personally am going to use 15 wt... -
carburetor help
Karl C. replied to dunkins1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
as the others have said the vent lines do run that far and back... you dont want gas fumes coming out in front of you... kind of like pis*ing in the wind with the wind blowing back in the face.... but anyway I am having carb problems so I undid the tank and everything and just about to the pont where I am tired of messing with them and just have them rebuilt also.... -
86 1st Gen if Anyone is Interested

To me that is a very timeless design... At least it had its own style and look, where as today so many bikes look like , well, a HD. Not that HD is bad. -
1st gen fork tube length?????????
Karl C. replied to painterman67's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
folks I really do appreciate the info. 70 bucks sure sounds better than 92 on the springs but feel they would also be worth the 92 if i had to. My understanding on the rebuilt forks is that 100 bucks includes parts and labor. I do remember asking her if the included oil etc and she said yes... But that wont include the springs of course. Just got a new job and just waiting for about the second check and hopefully do it to it. -
1st gen fork tube length?????????

I did do a search last nite for the springs, everyone else in bed and I cant sleep alot of times so I just started reading and by the time I was done reading and with what I heard here I guess i am gonna sink some money into them.. If the site is the only place to get them they are 92 bucks and I am sure hoping that is for 2 or a set. But I am going to put them in the venture and also my V65 Sabre. My front forks need rebuilt on both bikes anyway so I will just do it all at once. The local guy here want about 100 bucks to rebuild a set of fork if I pull them off and put them back on.. Is that an ok price or ??? I have looked at the instructions and it doesnt seem real hard but more like perfection in cleanliness and burrs. I dont have real good eyesite so it might be better to have it done.. -
Been many years ago a freind and I took a little drive over into Canada and stopped at a local bar and had a beer. Didnt even think about it till after I ordered but I ordered a Budweiser and was commenting on how expensive it was... then I remembered it is an import there.. Then I got more irritable because I actually like Canadian beer - molson ice, moosehead, but now I dont drink alcohol at all so it doesnt make a difference..

Okay I understand alot of laws have changed since terrorism has gotten worse but everything I have heard is what someone believes and not the full gospel. What I am wanting to know is what does an American have to have on them to drive a motorcycle to Canada and then be able to get back into the U.S.A.? I am thinking I also need to check with my insurance to see if I am even convered going there. Not planning on a trip this year but maybe next summer. About a year ago a friend of mine said that a friend of his took his honeymoon in Canada and well they had no problem getting into Canada but could not get out due to U.S.A. issues...

When I first changed my oil and filter I expected a change right off the bat... it didnt. but it did change eventually... after about 100 miles of riding it shifts much nicer now but I think I am going to go ahead and change the oil again sooner than later and see what kind of crap i can find in it. I have always heard that rotella cleans very good anyway and I guess it needs to for being an oil that started out for diesels.

Sounds like everyone has common sense on gun safety. I enjoy guns, do not have one right now though. I used to carry a 45 cap and ball black powder pistol and a 54 caliber black powder rifle. I also had the ruger 9mm p85 when they first came out. had several 44 and 22 convertibles. I tend to get very twitchy when I am around people that have never had a gun safety course, what I mean by that is a friend of mine bought a bb gun for his boy and I see nothing wrong with that but I had a real big problem with the boy aiming it at me and even my freind just aiming it anywhere... I got pissed and said "damn I cant get that damn gun out of my face can I".. his reply was that "it is just a bb gun" i was like yes of course it can only go thru my eye ball once. I do not "play" with guns at all. I have alot of respect for them and appreciate everyone else who does the same. What is really odd about society is that there are more people carrying guns now than ever but yet people still cut you off, flip you off, do stupid sh*t in traffic, I mean is there a death wish somewhere or what... I really wish my bike was in road condition to go to the next ride but looks like I will have to wait just a bit. Mainly forks and tires is my problem but oh well... But my honda v65 sabre is in road condition if you all dont mind a honda until i get the venture ready.

fork seal leaking again !

I do wished motorcycles had a different concept on front forks/shocks. I guess I am gonna take mine to the dealer, whoops not dealer but the local cycle mechanic, because I dont have time to get it wrong and I dont have time to redo it if it is wrong. I really wished I could afford another pair of forks so I could just keep them ready when needed. The local mechanic used to be a venture guy. -
I have to say good thinking on your part for sure. I personaly dont ride at night mainly due to poor eyesight.

really nice work. flames are very nice also. This is a personal taste so dont shoot but I wasnt real fond of the pinstripping. To me pinstripping on a paint job is like putting A1 sauce on a perfect steak... It just kinda covers up the beauty.. But nicer than anything I have....
-
Basically if niceness were put into effect things could be different. Most everyone is in a hurry and gives me the feeling that they think they are the only important ones on the road. It is just alarming at what people do to cut line or make up a few seconds.. I wonder how they feel when they kill someone over 1 second.. just my two cents... ps. they say riding a cycle is more tiring than driving a car, I feel it is more mental than driving a car due to the thngs we have to think about to keep safe.

good test, gets you to thinking. Most people, including myself, tend to focus only on a couple of things that could happen while in reality many things could happen... Here lately my worst fear is a toyota prius coming up behind me...lol

You had mentioned that the clutch "is almost all the way out before it engages" do you mean you let the handle all the way then the clutch engages? If so I thought that is how it is supposed to be so that it is faster to pull the clutch handle in to get it to disengage. In case of emergency etc.... I just put fluid in my venture and sabre and now both handles have to be relased pretty far to to engage it... Now if I took it the wrong way and you have to pull the clutch in pretty far to disengage it then just check your fluid level, ill be it is low.. that is what hapened with mine and now I think I am going to just drain it and change it... for good maintenance.. Hope I didnt sound to stupid on this...lol

what youll find out, or should find out, is that nitrogen is more consistent but you wont really notice the difference until you get into much wider tires. I had 20 inch rims with wide twenties on 07 silverado and the ride was the same whether it was hot or cold out.. on a regular tire I did not notice the difference in ride but did notice that I did not have to add or take out due to temp change.... I have been told that nitro in tires runs cooler but I do not know that for a fact.
