  1. One way you may get a dealer to do what you want is to call yamaha corp... I had customers so picked off at our service manager that they just called corp for cadillac and needless to say once cadillac got him on the phone he was all "yes sir" no sir etc... bull to have to do it that way but if they want to play a game just gotta learn how to play too i guess...
  2. I really cant say anything negative about a harley because I have never had one. My thing is that there are so many and now that the asian bikes look like harleys too it makes it rough making a decision. First of all I dont have the money for any new bike so that settles that... but if I did I like to be a little different, not whacky different just different enough. Honda makes a cb919 that they call a standard. I feel it is a mixed breed between a standard and a crotch rocket, but so is my v65 sabre. I still like the looks of being able to see the motor on a bike and so many have it alllllll covered in plastic....wth... a friend of mine and I were talking the other day and thinking IF we had the money what would we have a victory or a harley.. good question.. But needless to say I am happy for anyone who finds that perfect ride, whether it is an older bike, newer bike or asian or uk or usa or whatever... do your own thing and be nice is about all you can do.. im done now..lol
  3. You have a really good point there about service. I used to be a service advisor at a cadillac/gmc/pontiac dealership.... well since I got paid partly by commission I would take whatever vehicle and never did I ask "where was it bought" but my boss would always come out and say gee we dont take cars from expressway chevy/pontiac/ etc... I am thinking what an idiot...and yes he was an idiot and I am so happy I am not working there anymore... But like you I just could not understand why a business would turn money away. I understand that warranty doesnt pay as good as customer pay but it is still not bad money...
  4. One thing I have tried though is using that rinse for dishwashers to get rid of hardwater stains and it did a really great job. Cant remember name of it but it is like a blue thick liquid. I just put a little in the water and let it do the rest..
  5. you are lucky, most in that area have clay and most water looks like blood or something close to it...lol...
  6. my 83 venture i hadnt really named it yet i guess mainly due to still getting it road ready.... but it has gone by the name of B***h when things dont go right... but my 84 V65 Honda Sabre gets full respect.... I call it "Baby". It is my baby and I absolutely love getting on 164 (evansville bypass) and just running thru the gears at full throttle.... oh my GOD... that is a blast... I have my moments when I ride professionally and I have those moments when I ride (with no cars around) like I need to relieve tension... lol:322:
  7. now wait a minute... i thought damn yankee was one word....damnyankee... lol I have to say I wish I was moving to texas....or somewhere south...
  8. I just have to ask.... what is so different about a clearview windshield over an oem? I mean over 260 bux vs. 88 bux for a new oem and I am just wondering what is the difference. Do they not turn foggy as soon as oem or ???? thanks for any input at all..
  9. that sucketh..... but if you were wanting to change the color for any reason this would give you a reason too...lol.. but i have to admit the color you have is very nice.. After reading about the wind blowing bikes over on here I have been really watching how and where I park mine. My venture is in a garage right now but my sabre isnt. But hopefully I will have my own garage by summers end and then both bikes get a heated garage for winter...so they can sleep comfortably..lol
  10. My first thought would be an o2 sensor. but the easiest thing to check is this, the gas cap. The car is made to run with a certain amount of preesure in the tank and if that pressure is not met it will act different. Also you can take the car to advance or autozone and they can check to see if there are any codes. Just make sure you know what these codes can really be for. For example quite a few times a code can say you have a clogged up cat but in reality it is an o2 senor. Seen this quite a few times. I cannot remember what code is thrown when it isusually a gas cap tho. But anyway just a thought and not ment to be a know it all or etc... Good luck.
  11. my dad liked that era of merc and the falcon also.. I had a 68 that i liked and alwasy wanted a 2 door 68 or at least that body style... easy hot rodding material to say the least.. my 68 had a 200 six cylinder in it and i got 30 miles to a gallon which i thought was just great... good luck and if you have a love for bikes youll be back sooner than later. i bought a 46 chevy coupe when my first daughter was born, started in on it and slowly did some trading around for different things to be done to it and then all the sudden the wife tells me we are having another baby 15 months later, so the coupe flew the coupe...lol
  12. That would be the closest thing I have seen so far to what I am wanting to do... Pretty nice...
  13. Thanks for that info... i had thought about it but figured it would cost an arm and a leg to get...
  14. i am Cardini the motorcycle magician...lol... I am gonna just try some carb cleaner first and if that dont work they all are coming off and being rebuilt at least then I will know what I got before i hit the road... My 2 biggest obstacles from getting on the road are carbs and front forks.. carbs I wont do myself but forks I will be attempting because with 2 motorcycles now and hopefully more coming with new job I think it will save me alot of money... One last comment or question though, where can I find a descent accurate set of carb syncronisers (spelling) without having to take out a loan? I know nothing about accept i hear that the one with mercury are far more accurate and that is all i know. thanks a bunch folks, Karl
  15. my 83 venture runs but it sat for 7 years in a barn.... I did change plugs and I am wondering if you can get to the bowls on these carbs without taking the carbs off.
  16. I have been laid off for about 1.5 years now.... finally got an interview 2 weeks ago at a steel company and I really would have liked the job being it was 4 days on and 4 days off... yes... have a paycheck and time to ride also... but there new client fell thru I guess cause I had 2 interviews and no hire... wife works there too so I kinda figured I had a little pull... but I got another call yesterday for an interview today to fix wet basements... m-f and once in awhile saturday so that will work too.... Just as soon as I get my venture into road worthy condition a new tent will be bought and road trips will be happening... I got places to see and little time to do it in... I want to see east tennessee, NC, SC, Virginia, eastern ky, and every place in between... then i start on the new england states, then go west... it never ends... then canada and alaska...lol
  17. See I just bought this sabre and the old oil came out about as thin as water, dirty also. I am wondering if I would hurt anything by flushing the system then putting a good synthetic oil in it. I am aware that at that point if there is a leak in a gasket and plugged with gunk it will start leaking but I gotta try something..
  18. I have to say you handled yourself in a very professional, well educated fashion... I could not do that with an idiot like her... The first thing I felt was she needed a front tire up her arse... and yes I do realize that then I would be stuping to her ridiculously standards..
  19. one of the best races I ever did see was a vega vs. suzuki gs1100 turbo. The vega one, not by much but you dont need much to win. The vega was a midengine 396 built to the max. This happened down in jackson, TN way back in the day. The suzuki was built a little to and the turbo was an add on.
  20. by nature I am very impatient. When I am in my truck I drive kind of undesirable, not real bad but I would rather be moving consistently than stop and go.. Well when the bike bug bit me again I really feel it was a good thing. I know drive my truck like I drive my bike, with patience and I let everything or everyone go before me. I do not tailgate and I try everything to stay away from everybody.... there is a by pass around evansville though that is usually not very crowded and when I feel the need for speed I go there. I have been trying my V65 Sabre out there and it is nice to run it up to 115 and not have to worry about cars pulling out in front of you... One thing is for sure though I would never do 115 in an even slightly congested area and really dont do it except this time I just really wanted to see what it was like on this bike..
  21. the clutch on the v65 sabre is hydraulic. and I am wondering if air inthe clutch can have anything to do with this problem... I honesty feel it is on the tranny but I dont have enough experience to say either way. the last sabre i had ran so smooth, no problems with anything except that you were always going faster, much faster than how it felt..
  22. well freebird i have to agree with you and I did just that , changed the oil. I used 15w40 rotella t and it is a little better but not much. I am wondering if going to a syn 10w40 might be worth the try. I also thought I might check the linkage but still am not sure how that could play a part in hot vs. cold.
  23. I have a 1984 v65 sabre as well as my 1983 venture. My Sabre runs good but here is the problem: when it is cold it shifts just fine after I ride it and get it warmed up good it gets hard to shift. I also notice that even when I am stopped and go from neutral to 1st it, to me, has a pretty good "clunk". I am used to hearing a little something but this just seems harder than normal. I realize that this is a honda issue and this is a yamaha venture forum but most of the people here seem nicer than most forums elsewhere so please forgive me on this one... I would appreciate any feedback though. On a better note my venture is coming along, getting ready to put fork seals in and redo some wiring.
  24. There can be structural cracks in a helmet that cant be scene with the naked eye. I saw a test on a helmet after a crash one time and they put the helmet under some kind of light and there were cracks all over it... needless to say the helmet did its job.. But I also feel that if a helmet cant withstand a couple of feet being dropped then it probably wasnt worth the money given for it. That is what sux about society and life... we are taught to grow up and be honest, well how many companies, advertisers etc are honest... I have to agree with others here that I will do what I feel is best, and right now I really feel like using the helmet I already have...lol
  25. this thread reminds me of the time i had an old camaro with air shocks on it... well i was very broke at the time and so I got this quick ideal... put fix a flat in the air shocks... it did work, for about 4 months. That was enough time to figure out if i was getting rid of the car or repairing it right.. I have to be real honest though I dont believe I would put it in a set of forks.. or stop leak of any type... but that is me personally..
