Any other HD touring bike members here?
rickardracing replied to eazyduzzit's topic in Watering Hole
We're not predudiced on this site. Be bash everything! -
Someone backed into my 07 RSV about two months ago at work. Nobody ever said a thing. Bent my right passing light 90 degrees facing down, creased the top of the fender and my side stand has a real nice curve to it now. Pretty sure it was my employer, just can't prove it.

Het send me slice of that cake!
-
I also never leave my key in the bike.
-
I got into the habit of using my sidestand to shut the bike off. Two birds with one stone.
-
I am sure the guy on the bike is totally innocent and did not do anything to pi$$ the driver off.

Pretty happy with my Metzler ME 880's

I just do not understand how you guys are wearing out these tire with less than 10k miles on them. Even the 404's that were on my bike lasted 14k. -

You are going to find that with the 404's the handling is going to disappear. Those are the worst tire you can put on a bike. -
You didn't see me... (copied this from FB)

How can you wear out a set of E3's in 7000 miles? I put a set on my 07 RSV at 14,000 miles. This is my second season on them and I have 33,000 on the bike now and I can finish out this year on them no problem. -
JM headsets about to go in the toilet!

I just bought a new set of Elite J & M off of ebay. Being delivered Teusday. Regularly $219. I made an offer of $145 and they took it. Free shipping. Coming from a Honda Dealer. They are sealed units. Plastic is molded over the components, you ain't getting them apart without destroying them. They beez disposable. -
I actually had a guy stop me the other day and said he used to have a Venture and it was the best V-twin Yamaha ever made. :rotf: I would love a Street Glide with lower fairings and a killer stereo. It has the one thing that would make my 86 VR perfect. A lower saddle height. (and therefore lower center of gravity) I love the Street Glides. That is a sweet look, but I would get a Kawasaki Vaquero instead. Same style and pretty much the same options for ALOT less money. But if a street glide did become available for the right price, I maybe swayed. But it would have to be a real good price.

You know I just gotta throw some gas on the fire. This is no joke. On my way home tonight on I-96 west heading through Wixom, there was a nice looking HD, very nice looking I might add, sitting on the shoulder. Street glide. No rider. Got about a mile up the rode and I see a guy walking. Traffic was at a crawl, I asked him if he was out of gas and if he needed a ride. Nope, no ride, got plenty of gas. He said it broke down again. He was leaving it there for the dealer to come pick it up. He was not happy, offered to take him to the next exit to a gas station. He would not even answer. Hope he enjoyed his walk.

HD's are beautiful bikes. But #1. They are overpriced in my book. and #2. Quality needs to come up alot more to justify the price. Even if they sold for $5k less than a Yammi, they would not be worth it because of the quality innconsistancies. I will stick to my metric bike for awhile longer.

Live and learn. At least Harleys have a decent dealer network and the warranty is good in damn near any Harley dealer you ride it into. I know this first-hand. I know of three Harley owners in my small network of riders that I know that would argue with you about the warranty and "decent dealer network" you mentioned. Two of which say that they will never buy another Harley again.

Jay, I noticed it. They were not open when we went through at the time. I wondered why nobody said anything. I must have been the only one that saw it.

Hmmmm, giving you permission? Now that' funny.

The paint code was developed off of my 07 RSV. The paint supply put this thingy mabob doohicky on my saddle bag and it scanned the color and presto chango we have the purdiest blue. It may not be a perfect match if you were to do some touch up on a tank or fender, but on something not directly attached to a mating surface, you can't see a differance. When I first saw the trunk, I did not think it was going to look good on the bike. Now that it's painted and on, I think it looks pretty darn nice. I would not do any badging of any kind myself. Let J-Bird do his thing next year and call it good.

Looks real sharp. The color is actually Mazda Blueberry Metallic. That paint job kicked my a$$. It should have been simple. Humidity is not condusive to painting in a garage. Nice job on the install. Can't wait to see it in person.

$25 for two oil filters is highway robbery. Your employer should be shot. This is a prime example of why dealers are known as stealers and why they loose so much busines to online stores................just saying.
-
Bushtec is not making those pins themselves. You should be able to track down a differant supplier. See if there is any kind of part number on the pice and type in Heim pin with the number into the google search bar. See what comes up. If you cannot find anything, ask Bushtec why the shipping is so much for a small part. I can see if they are shipping next day priority. But standard ground should be less than $10. I have limited patience for dealers of any kind.

Star/Yamaha falling further behind
rickardracing replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
Well you will see a differance because of the added weight. You have to be more careful in the corners with it pushing on the back of the bike. Also, leave yourself more stopping distance. And above all, do not over load it. I put a swivel coupler on mine, the jury is still out on whether or not I like it. Plus it added 6" to the already 90" long trailer.- 48 replies

I love this trailer. It is a Dart trailer. I attached a link. Not necessarily the place to buy one. I included it because it has a few nice pics of the trailer. You can just Google Dart motorcycle trailers. This think pulls great. Does not sway or bounce. Towed it from Michigan out to Colorado abd back last year. 4000 miles round trip, no issues. There are tons of styles and manufacturers, tear drop, some guys swear by the Harbor Frieght with a car top carrier on top. I got this one used. It had only been used once. I paid $1400 for it. I really was not even in the market for one. It became available, I looked and bought it. I replaced the white wagon wheels with some nice aluminum wheels and painted it to match the bike. The only thing I do not care for is the length. It's looooooong. I guess it all depends on how much your willing to spend and what style. My brother in-law has a tear drop that he pulls with his Midnight Venture and seems to get less gas mileage than me. Could be the the front of the trailer catching wind. Who knows. http://www.barebonesmctours.com/darttrailer.htm- 48 replies

Look for a good used Venture. Save the bucks.
