Star/Yamaha falling further behind

BigLenny, let me revise the "I won't never buy a new bike" comment. If I were to find what I wanted new at a dealer and it was deeply discounted, say a two model year old "new" bike that was never sold at the dealer, I could be swayed. There are deals like this out there. When you see them, you gotta jump on it right then and there. Don, thanks for the info on the speedohealer.- 48 replies

Ok, what is a speedohealer? I knew the speedometer was off a bit, I never thought about the odometer being off.- 48 replies

Wow, glad you told me that. I never knew. I feel so much more enlightened. Thank you so much for your wisdom. I never said nobody should not buy new. I am willing to bet that MOST of those who are posting about this probably would not buy new. I was just curious as to how many would actually drop the coin for one. Certain things I do buy new, certain things I do not. Cars yes, I do. You take a huge hit on the resale of a motorcycle in the first 2 or 3 years when you buy new. All I said was that I am not willing to take that big of a hit. PERIOD. Anyone else have a can of gas to put out the flames? I can go all day. But no worries, I still love you all. We all have our opinions. I respect them all. As long as you agree with me..............- 48 replies

Star/Yamaha falling further behind

Yes I do. One every five years. For my wife. I want her to have a dependable mode of transportation. Once it's paid off, I take that vehicle for me and she gets the next new one and trade in the old one. I do not buy used cars anymore. Too many pos's out there. In my humble opinion leasing ruined the used car market. At one time you could buy a decent used car. Now when you go to a lot, they are full of turned in leases. Very few poeple properly maintain a lease. The last few used cars I bought from private owners were ok, but I prefer to buy cars new. I think poeple tend to take better care of their scoots on a whole versus car owners. But this is not about new cars. It's about the never to be seen revised Venture. Why do you ask?- 48 replies

I realize alot of poeple buy bikes new. But what I meant was I just wondering out of all of the posters here, how many would buy a new one. As far as your riding days. My friend, you got a long way to go! My father in-law is I believe 72 and he rides his Harley to work every day. Yes, he still works, as a grinder hand in a tool shop. He tried the retirement thing. Honestly, how many poeple here would actually go buy a new Venture if they came out with one. I bet not many. I know I will probably NEVER buy a bike new. Why take that big of loss? I bought my bike (07 RSV) in 2009. It had just over 9k miles on it. Came with the trunk light, trunk rack, bag rails, aux lights in front and rear. I bought it from the original owner and came with all the reciepts. He bought it new, added all the do dads, paid close to 21k for everything. I paid 11k for it. He took a 10k loss over two years. Why take that kind of hit? Not me. My next bike will probably be a Vaquero and it will be purchased used with low miles. I will let the other guy take the initial loss. So even if Yammi does come out with a new Venture in the near or more than likely very distant future, I would not buy a new one.- 48 replies

Brian, I rode the Voyager at a demo day recently. Same as the Vaquero, just with the tour pack. VERY nice riding machine. I really like the Candy Lime Green on the Vaquero. It makes it go faster.....................

I have never noticed my bike lugging at 50 in 5th. Fuel mileage is about 43 mpg.
-
Where do you ride not to use 5th gear? If you ever get over 45-50, pop it in 5th. Never get on I-94? 275? I use 5th gear all the time. If I am 45 plus mph, I am in 5th.

Cutting on the chrome ignition cover is not an option. I will probably just do the Flanders bars with longer cables. More expensive, but not hacked.
-
I already ahve my Venture. No need for another one and with the depreciation, I would buy it 2 or 3 years old anyways. What I am looking at is possibly getting a Kawasaki Vaquero as a second pony in the stable.
-
Nope, I need number 25. Pipe meets the head.
-
Not sure what they look like, I am talking about where the pipe mounts to the head. I can hear a slight leak.
-
I know a few have taken the fork apart and cut down some spacers? But that's more of a permanent mod. I figured this way if I don't care for it, I can always put the forks back. But so far I noticed a big differance at low speed.
-
Well, I got off my butt and put the bike on the lift yesterday. Put the stock leveling links back on, tightened up the neck bearing. That took a half turn to snug it up! Then I went ahead and pulled the fairing loose and pushed the forks up 3/4". Plugged the ais system. Took it for a quick ride yesterday and a 55 mile ride into work this morning. So far, Very happy with the saddle height. I can touch flat footed sitting on the bike and have my knees bent. When I stand up I have about an 1 1/2" clearance. Me likey. The bike haandles much better at low and high speeds. Seems like I can turn a tighter radius. Me likey that too. AIS plugged. I know some are against it, but for $1.28 for the 2 rubber stoppers and the 15 minutes it took I figured why not. Pretty much eliminated the popping through the exhaust. I run 29" Samson turnouts. It may even be a tad quieter without those gases burning in the pipes, I could be wrong though, but could just be because it does'nt pop like it used too. I do have a small exhaust leak and need a new doughnut gasket. Once I replace those, I do not think I will get any popping at all. Me likey likey.

Jay, go to gpscity.com, search for a RAM mount there. I think I paid right around $35 for mine. I have a mount for my 1490t, does not move once it's tightened down. You can just plug it into the audio jack on the bike and it will cut off when someone talks to you on the cb. If you go to the Midnight Ride or meet us up in Mackinac, you can see how I have all my shtufff mounted. Randy

Yeah, I want to wear full leather on a 90 degree day. I do not wear shorts and sandles. Jeans and riding boots. But full leather? In the summer? Let's see.....07' Venture with matching trailer for sale..............................
-
I wear a brain bucket simply because it does not feel natural for me to ride without one. If my wife had not been wearing one when she went down on her 750, she would have died at the scene. She hit the pavement with her head and shoulder at the same time. Results, survived with a concussion, bruised shoulder (she was wearing her leather), torn acl in left knee and broken toe. NOW, this is my feelings. If I go down on my scoot and the helmet keeps me alive but I end up either a parapalegic or a quadrapalegic.......I hope my helmet either comes off or splits in half and I die at the scene. I would not want to live the rest of my days in a wheel chair and will not. But that's my feelings nobody elses and so be it.

I don't know how you guys are installing the 1 1/2" risers. I put a set on my 07 RSV and the caps/clamp that hold the handlebars on hit the chrome ignition cover to the point it buckled under full left/right lock. I took them off and sent them back. How are you avoiding the buckling issue?
-
You did an awesome job! You pull that trialer with pride!

I agree. What about a liquid cooled v-twin in the 1700 range or even a 1700 v-four? Update the motor to this size with a heavier duty clutch to match the hp and torque and your not admitting anything. But, as I stated before, they won't be coming out with a 3rd Gen. Hopefully I will be asking for some ketchup to go alone with the crow I would be eating if I am wrong.
