Not much riding, Got Oil Leak ????
GeorgeS replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would suspect the Gasket under the Large Case Cover. If the Starter O-Ring was replaced, I doubt, thats where its comeing from. I have replaced that Case Cover 4 times, I always use a new gasket, and Sealant. Three out of 4 times I had Oil Seepage. Frankly, I quite worrying about it!! Is it Dripping on the Garage Floor ??? If not, forget about it, and go rideing !!!! Life is to short to sweat the small stuff:scratchchin: -
Also, worn out Fork Springs. Replace with Progressive Suspension Springs !!! How many miles on the front tire? It might be damaged, even if not visable.

Kills power to the TCI and Fuel Pump, and Ignition coils!!! -
Brad25ca, is in need of a Bracket from an old Carb Set for his 86. Anybody out there who has replaced his complete Carb Set, might still have the parts laying around that he needs. ( part he needs cannot be ordered seperatly ) Its the Bracket assembly that holds the Throttle " Pull " cable In place, located between the two left side carbs. If anybody can help, drop him a message !!!

I know this will get dicey !! Avons are great, will last about 14K, Dunlop D404, Cheapest, only run about 8K and are toast. ( I do not reccomend them for heavy bikes, great for a 500 lb, 500cc bike for running around the city ) Dunlop's New, E-3, Best for Milage, reports of over 20K with them. !! ( yes thats right, 20K !! ) Also, the caseing of the E-3 is twice the thickness of the D404. Tread is also thicker, this is Dunlops tire for the GoldWing. I just installed one, ( E-3 ) rode it 700 miles last week, I am very satisfied. Replaced the Avon, which was OK, its still on my Spare wheel, and will re install to run out the last 3K miles, over the winter season for local rideing. I will admit the Avon rideing handling is a little better ( Very Little ) then the E-3, but the much longer milage, and thicker caseing of the Dun, E-3 are worth the little extra money. OK, thats my 2 cents worth. IF you get a D404, you will pay less , but you will pay twice as often !! Double your mounting and balanceing fee's if you pay to have the work done. E-3 is a Better , Safer, tire.

symptoms of a stator going bad?
GeorgeS replied to bobcat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First thing to do is find the Large White Plug, from the Alternator going to the Rectifyer/Regulator Unit. 3 white, #14 wires going thru it. Open it, and check for damage, burned pins, corroded Pins Etc. etc. Then take AC voltage reading from each wire going thru the plug, to ground. With the plug connected, you should see about 6 to 12 volts, AC on each of the 3 phases from the Alternator. IF, one is substantially lower then the other 2, the stator is on its way out. Also, useing your Digital Volt/Ohm meter, measure Voltage at Battery, at 2000 RPM, you should see at least 13.5 volts DC. The Meter on the Panel, is not accurate enough for these tests. -
Throttle Cable Replacement
GeorgeS replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The 90 degree Section should mount Solidley In Place. IT must NOT move. The Adjustment section of the cable and Locking Nut, come as Part OF the New Cable assembly !! IF you do not have the Adjustment Section, and Lock Nut, then, you have the wrong cable. ie I am beginning to suspect that you might be useing a Return Cable, Instead of a PULL cable . ???? Double check this, You said, there is not Adjustment section on your Cable ??? Does not make sence. Study the IPC, make sure you have the correct part number.- 23 replies

Did you dissassemble the Throttle Joint? Did the Spring fly out ?? ( mine did ) If so, did you replace the spring inside the throttle joint proberly ? ( just a thought ) Are you sure the freeplay is not up at the Twist Grip Assembly ??- 23 replies

Got back from 700 mile ride on the new Rear , E-3. I like it. This trip was all freeway running at speed. I can say that I notice a Slight ( only slight ) left right instability. However Nothing to complaine about really, also was carrying about 70lb. of stuff in the luggage. I will agree however that the Avon, probably has " slightly " better traction, however, that is a very subjective statement. If this E-3 lasts Over 20K as the old E-2 I had, I doubt I will ever use any other Tire. At least on this bike.

Throttle Cable Replacement
GeorgeS replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You could have freeplay in the Upper pull cable section between the twist grip and the " throttle joint " unit. Or you could have play in the lower pull cable section from the throttle joint to the Carb. Take the left side lower fairing off, and you can get access to the cable length adjustment Lock Nut, and adjustment screw. About 2 1/2 inches from where the cable Exits the tube, before it connects to the carb linkage assembly, I set the Main Idle adjust on the left fwd carb to just makeing contact, then adjust the abov mentioned " adjustment " to give about 1/16 inch of freeplay, then set main idle speed,--- The go back and readjust the cable length to allow for no more then 1/16 inch of play. Don't forget that you could have excess play in the UPPER Cable, adjust that At the Twist Grip. There is an adjusment there also. I set that for NO play. One other item, The dealer mechanic may not have Properly Reassembled your " Throttle Joint Unit " when relaceing the single cable. Only way to get to the Throttle Joint unit, is to Remove the Upper Fairing half. Sorry !!! not a fun job.- 23 replies

There are O-Ring Seals, where they bolt to the Heads. Its advisable to replace the O-Rings. Some folks have said it was still leaking with new O-Rings, so he used Sealant in addition to the New seals. I haven't done this job, so can't say for certain. But if you are having leakage problems, might be worth considering.

Battery Warning Light Help
GeorgeS replied to JayLaveroni's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The battery water level sensor is Not on a fused circuit, it simply sends a voltage from the battery sensor to the Instrument panel. So, I was curious as to how a fuse would cure the problem The " Accessory " Fuse is provided by Yamaha, so users can hook up any Added Accessory they might mount on the bike. Normaly its not used. So, sombody must have done the Battery Sensor light, modification, and used the Accessory Fuse, as the Voltage source, for the Modification. So, just to be on the safe side, Follow the output wire From the Acc. fuse, it should run to where the a 2200 OHM Resistor, has been added in series, and hooked to the R/W (Red/White ) wire that "Used to " go to the Battery Water Level Sensor. Also, you must have a " Sealed Battery " Installed. Right ?? Whats my point to all this ? Nothing, Just an Old, Electrician , mulling things over --- -

Ignition Fuse Keeps Blowing
GeorgeS replied to 5bikes's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Feeds power to the following items 1. 4 Ignition Coils 2. Fuel pump Relay 3. Fuel Pump 4. Power from fust goes Thru, the Run-Stop Switch. ---- Check the wireing up to the Red Switch on right handlebar. 5. Side stand Relay 6. TCI, Main 12 Volt power to the 8 Pin Plug on the TCI. 7. Cruz Control system, if you have it. Check your Fuse holder carefully Check all the wireing cables that are Close to the Steering, Cable may be Stressed or damated in that area. Check the cableing going up to the Run Stop switch, Remove the cover where the cables run thru the handle bars. A few folks have found damaged wireing in that area. Carefully check the Wireing Cable that goes down to the Side Stand switch. This is a prime area for wireing damage. Good luck,- 4 replies
