  1. I'm one of the most skeptical people I know. Never ever believed in oil additives and have never used them. Anyway, I've followed this thread from the beginning. About 2 weeks ago I told a friend about it because we were in a Flying "J" and I thought I'd show him the product. His response was that it's a pile of BS. Anyway, 3 days ago he told me that he'd asked some aquaintances who drive big rigs if they had heard of it. They both swore by it. He put it in his 2001 Goldwing with 130,000 miles on it and told me the noticable improvements were immediate including smooth shifting and quieter engine. Last night I put 8 oz in both my RSTD and my wifes 750 Shadow. My bike has never had the dreaded wine but what the heck. First I took my bike for a 10 mile ride and as I backed down the driveway with the bike in neutral I wondered if I'd notice a difference. I noticed an immediate difference when I shifted from neutral to first gear. NO CLUNK. The choke was still out a bit so it was reving higher than idle which always results in a CLUNK. Anyway, I proceeded and immediatel noticed the bike shifted like a knife through warm butter. I didn't notice any difference in engine noise, just smoother shifting. My bike has Amsoil 10W40 in it. My wifes bike has dino oil in it and the 10 mile ride on the same route with her bike was next. Her Shadow has a really noisy engine (she says she has crickets in the engine). Anyway, again, the smoother shifing was immediate and by the end of the ride I couldn't hear the crickets as much as when I started the ride. Time will tell but it would appear that the product works.
  2. A guy that lives 2 blocks from us has a 94 harley cop bike and is a harley guy through and through. Anyway, He saw me ride by and 2 minutes after I parked in the garage, there he was. He was there because he'd only caught a glimpse and thought I'd bought a road king. Once he realized it wasn't a harley I could see his interest ebb but he asked what size the engine was. I told him it was a 1300. His response was that it was even smaller than his bike. I said...............oh no John, you misunderstood. It's 1300 on each side, it's a 4 cylinder. Haven't seen him since.
  3. This year my mileage was down partially due to weather :250:and partly due to just cutting back on the touring trips:mo money:. This year was 20,000 km = 12,400 miles Last year was 26,000 km = 16,000 miles hopefully next year will get back to more riding.
  4. My "knee wind blockers" arrived today. Very nice workmanship. Now if it ever stops raining, I'll get to use them.
  5. I have the bubs and both my wife and I love them. We're from the late 60's muscle car era and the bubs give us the sound that we miss. We don't find them annoying on the highway at all. Annoying was the drilled out baffles on our Valkyrie. The steady drone on the highway drove us crazy. My tips are starting to flake and when they look like chit I'll paint them black.
  6. I love the BUBS but there's been a crackdown on aftermarket pipes in our area. The police are actually pulling over bikes and anything that registers over 85db results in a ticket. I was told (but don't know this as fact) that the ticketed riders have to appear within a certain time from to be re-tested. I've got a chance to buy the venture pipes for $100 so thought it may be a good idea to have them just in case.
  7. thanks guys.
  8. I'm not sure so I've come to the experts here. I have a 2006 RSTD but am wondering if these pipes off a 2006 venture will fit. I presently have BUB exhaust on the bike so am hoping the venture pipes will slip on. Here's the ad: Exhaust came off a 2006 Yamaha Royal Star Midnight Venture with 500 miles for a trike conversion. Like new condition thanks Greg
  9. I just ordered a set today so hopefully they'll be here before the snow flies. I HATE snow!!! Looking forward to trying them though.
  10. Thanks for all the replies folks. All the input is very much appreciated. I added 10 lbs today and will try it there to see if I even notice a difference. The baron's lowing kit is definately a possibility as well but we'll see. It's good to know that others are running the rear with 0 air though because I hadn't read of anybody doing this despite what the manual says. thanks again Greg
  11. After trying all searches I haven't come across an answer to my question so here goes. Since buying my 06 RSTD I've been running it with no air in the rear shock. We've ridden 2-up quite a bit on different roads and haven't bottomed out. The biggest advantage in running with 0 psi for me is that the bike is lower so my short little legs allow me to reach the ground easier. My biggest concern is that everybody seems to be running more than 20 lbs in the rear shock. I just re-read the manual which states: SPRING RATE: Minimum (soft): 0 psi Standard: 0 psi Maximum (hard): up to a max of 57 psi Does anybody run 0 psi in the rear??? Is there a negative other than bottoming out if running 0 psi??? Thanks Greg
  12. Too late for the Rick Butler mod but thanks anyway. The Mustang is on and both mama and I are very please with it.
  13. I just wanted to thank Dkip (Dale) from this forum for letting me drive to his house and at least sit on his Mustang seat so I would have an idea about seat height. We had already ordered and ridden about 600 miles on the Ultimate but it didn't work for either myself or my wife. We now have the 2 piece mustang on and are very happy with it. Thanks again to everyone for your input and to Dale for the "TEST SIT". Greg
  14. Very good point about the "decision". In the big scheme of things it's nothing. Mama still isn't forgiving me for getting rid of our 2005 Goldwing. Now that's a queen seat for momma. I'm enjoying riding a bike that has more of a "motorcycle" feel and look for lack of a better description.
  15. good feedback about the mustang seat. My mind was pretty much made up untill reading your report. If I can't touch the ground with my short little legs, I'm in trouble. I see lots of the Yamaha comfort seats for sale on Ebay but no passenger seats and the passenger comfort is probably 75% of our purchasing decision. Decisions....................decisions.
  16. The following report is in no way meant to tarnish a brand at all but my wife and I both feel it's important to give honest feedback so that people who use forums to educate themselves, get all the information possible to help the make decisions. I received the Ultimate seat late last Thursday and did the following rides, all with my wife on the back to test both seats properly. Friday we rode about 150 miles Saturday we rode about 200 miles Sunday we ride about 300 miles Monday (today) we rode about 100 miles Despite giving the seat lots of miles and different situations to give it a fair chance, here is why it's being returned. I don't like typing this because as a Canadian, I really wanted to buy and enjoy a seat that's made by a Canadian company. I realize that not everyone will like the same type of seat so this report is strictly what my wife and I experienced. My wife says the pillion is no better if not worse than the stock seat. Every day that we tested it, withing an hour or less she could feel the seams in the seat and felt like her butt bones were on the seat pan. Naturally this caused not only numb bum, but pain as well, long after each ride was done. I had a problem which came within 30 miles on each day of testing the seat. It caused me moderate to severe Sciatic pain on my left side and nothing I tried as far as seating and foot position made a difference. I also experienced the same numb bum and pain as my wife did but mine didn't last as long after each ride (cuz I'm tuffer than her ). The last time I experience this kind of pain on a bike was on my Goldwing which had 150,000 miles on the seat and my Doctor said that the pain I was experiencing was because the foam in the seat was collapsing and I was sitting on the seat pan. That's the exact feeling I have with the brand new Ultimate seat. The last thing is that although Ultimate advertises that their seat is the same seating position as the stock seat, it's at least an inch higher than the stock seat which is important to a short a$$ like me with a 28" inseam. We've had 3 Mustang seats in the past and have always been pleased with them. The reason with went with Ultimate this time was because of the seat height (Mustang is apparently 1" higher than stock) and because we wanted to buy Canadian because we'ed heard good things about Ultimate. We'll see tomorrow how good their money back guarantee is won't we. Anyway, still debating on the Mustang as I type this but suspect that I'll order a Mustang in the morning. Again, this is only our experience and we fully understand that lot's of people love their Ultimate seats. Greg
  17. raised the bars tonight. It was just as easy as described earlier in this thread. I can now reach the grips easier without reaching so looking forward to a ride tomorrow. Thanks again to everyone.
  18. Thanks again guys. I raised them about an inch on my last bike and it made a huge difference in comfort because I have short arms and I didn't have to lean so far forward to reach the grips.
  19. Thanks for sharing your story. It's a good reminder to all of us.
  20. thanks guys. I never even thought of removing the windshield to get at the dash from the front. Dave: did you remove the windshield to get at the dash from the front???? I'll give it a try tonight after work.
  21. I've been unsuccessful by searching so here's my question. Is it possible to adjust the bars on the RSTD. All I'm looking to do is raise the grips so they're an inch or so higher than they are right now. I can't see because of the dash so hoping somebody can explain how to do this. thanks Greg
  22. I guess I'm lucky because I haven't heard anything irregular in my 06 RSTD. I have a friend with an 05 and he couldn't stand the noise from new. Had the clutch basket thingy done and he say's it's bearable but still there. My previous Valkyrie was very whiny with the square cut gears. My 1800 Goldwing whistled like a turbo spooling up. I actually got used to the noise on the Valkyrie and Goldwing but not having heard the noise on the Yamaha's, I'm just thankful I don't hear it.
  23. After having both a 1500 and then an 1800 GW, I completely agree with Eck with regards to the drivers seat. Mama loved the passenger seat but I never did get real comfortable on either seat. With me I think it had a lot to do with the peg location and my short butt legs not being able to straddle the fairing for highway pegs although the 1800 was a bit better with a narrower fairing. Lot's of discussions on GW forums about aftermarket seats that's for sure.
  24. Being new to the RSTD and having has issues with stock seats in the past, I decided to tough it out with the stock seat. WELLLLL......after a 400 mile day ride on Saturday, I still can't sit back on my tailbone. So, I'm not very tuff and after lot's of internet searching for opinions, I ordered a 3 piece Ultimat seat this morning. I'm a sissy ok????????? but I love to ride so it's worth the price to me.
  25. I'm just chirping in here so that I don't lose this interesting thread. I don't seem to have the noised in my 06 RSTD but a friend has an 05 that was terrible until he did the "I" basket thingy. He can still hear it but it's tolerable.
