  1. Popeye remove the radio from the fairing and tighten the black spindles that lock into the dash cover. While you have it out put some dielectric grease in the 2 blue connectors.that should fix the problem for you. Jeff
  2. That would be false the reason the bike or motor is called a sleeper is the fact that in the Venture it still has the power to out run alot of the bikes of today. In its day I would guess that not many bikes would be able to give it serious competition. Think about your thoughts the first time you saw a first gen did you think that it was a full dress crotch rocket? It is try playing with the young kids on CR and see what they do the second time you get next to them at a trafic light. Jeff
  3. Maybe we can get Riderduke to show for this event then the crew would be together again.
  4. Well RSTDin Pa I have personally had a oil filter problem. Back about 18 years ago I had a Napa filter split apart on my 1963 Rambler the car had a 196 aluminum block motor in it and the oil pump was on the outside of the engine with the filter screwed directly to the pump. The Napa store and rep tried to put the blame on me saying that I installed the filter improerly. Needless to say I will not use a Napa of wix filter again. I try to only use Motorcraft filters on my fords and Mopar filters on my daughters dodge. I use either Fram or Yamaha filters on my Ventures with no problems. I also only use Castrol oils and replace the oil every 3000 miles no matter what. Jeff
  5. I found this linked off of the N.C. PGR website who all from this site will be attending? I will be there. http://www.geocities.com/vietvetmemorial/RUN
  6. Ok here is how I was told to do fork seals from my dealer.First remove the small screw on the outside of the forks to drain the oil ( it is under pressure so release the pressure slowly) then pull the tire, fender, fork brace. Then remove the 10mm bolt from the bottom of the forks lift the dust seal and remove the snap ring then use the lower fork tube like a slide hammer to remove it from the upper tube.pay attention to the small cup and spring washer that holds it in place to reinstallation. after the lower tube is off go ahead and pull the top caps then reverse to install all the parts take about 15 to 20 min per fork depending on how you work. All of this is done with bike on center stand. I use 8W fork oil in my bikes. Jeff
  7. Check the wiring to the rear headset connector every now and then I get the squeel on my 83 when the wife is on the scoot and have to adjust the handle bar mounted volume controller down to stop the noise. My squeel sounds like microphone feed back. Jeff
  8. You need to check your state laws in N.C. it is illegal for trailer lights to blink and Ga is as well so before you hook it up ask a state trooper of the law to keep from getting a citation. Jeff
  9. Run the speed limits to be safe and ask that the slower riders ride in the back with at least one expierienced rider running tail gun preferably one with a Cb
  10. Cecil if you are talking about the nut holding the U joint in that broke that is exactly what happened to Dragon riders bike after the first Vogel. I replaced the entire unit with a used one and he has had no problems we did have to remove the oil pan to get all of the broken gear pieces out but Lewis has been riding on the repair for 2 years now. Start by removing the swing arm and then remove the 3 bolts that hold in the gear housing then loosen the 2 pinch bolts and wiggle the unit out pay close attention to the shims as you will need to reuse them to get proper back lash. Jeff
  11. Fork seals are around $10 at the dealer I have replaced 3 sets in the last 24 months and it is a fairly easy process. Give me a call and we can talk you through it my dealer gave me a short cut that makes it a 30 min to 1 hour job Jeff 2524269691
  12. Yes 1Rooster just had his sidecar mounted the day before Vogel it is a nice looking rig.
  13. Clay the clearance depends on the hitch type I have seen as much as 2" and as little as 1/4" Jeff
  14. The first thing you need to try is to put dielectric grease in All of the connectors on the bike and use dw40 in the ignition switch that should take care of all of the wet problems. Jeff
  15. Ok Chuck I understand now just remember I am on an 83 with 123K that still runs strong I just need to fix the trans (Think the torsion spring broke) Jeff
  16. Tire size and type is just as influential as the inflation pressures. I get the best handleing out of Dunlop K491 (recomended tire). But with the weight of the machine gravel can be dangerous to us. I learned to be carefull when on a gravel road or parking lot. Jeff
  17. Chuck is there a problem with the 83? I have removed and replaced the engines many times I even put an 86 motor in a 91 for a fellow member. I have not gone the other way so I dont even know what to tell you to look for. Jeff
  18. I dropped mine when I first got to the park with the trailer and Mini so I guess I am an official member of the I dropped my bike at Vogel group Jeff
  19. Jim first check the connector at the relay for a good ground then for voltage it sounds like maybe a high resistance ground problem. Jeff
  20. Sorry my teleporter is on the fritz we will have to figure some other way to get them to ya. Are you gonna be at Vogel?
  21. Zag here are some pics of the one I got out of the carbs from Freebird.
  22. Zagger I did get the carbs from Freebird (thanks Don) when I get home I will see if they are any good let me know if the new ones work I need 2 myself (stripped heads) Jeff
  23. James good luck on getting a reply I have written many emails to the N.C.Hp on road safety and condition and have not recieved even 1 reply. If I were you I would also send a copy to the Govenor. I had to send an email to the Govenor ofN.C. to get my Muffinman tag back and even though I did not recieve a reply from his office I did get imediate results from the DMV ***** that tried to stop my tag. Good luck and keep us posted. Jeff
  24. Take all of the connector on the bike apart and use some dielectric grease on them to eliminate that being the problem. It kind of sounds like you might have water in the fuel these bikes dont like to run at all with just a little water in the system seafoam it and let us know. Jeff
  25. Ed its not real hard to take it off remove the mufflers first and then the front pipes after you get those off remove the rear band clamps and the 2 12mm bolts from the bottom and work the collector off the rear down pipes. you can give me a call at 252-426-9691 if you want. Jeff
