How do you do this??? also, I once had a KZ1000 that had old rubber fuel lines that had weakened and at higher rpm's the fuel line sucked in and collapsed and wouldn't let any gas through, causing the bike to bog down and stall like it was running out of gas (because technically it was). I put on new fuel lines and it solved that problem.

You'll probably hear this two dozen times... If the bike was sitting for any extended length of time the old gas in the tank has probably done some clogging somewhere in the fuel system, including the carbs. Don't think you have to take the carbs apart and clean them,...yet. Go to walmart or an autoparts store and buy a can of the ever famous SeaFoam, pour it in the tank, fill up with gas, kiss you wife good bye, and go on a nice little 150 mile ride in any direction. Be sure to crank it up every so often to blow out the carbon build up and any other junk that may need to be cleaned out. You might even see some smoke coming out of the pipes, don't be concerned. Seafoam is to carbs what an enema is to ********. Just make sure you don't ever put an enema in your tank and seafoam up your ***. Good luck, I hope this helps, and enjoy your new scoot... Todd

Plug replacement 1984
KingSizer replied to bkupmstr's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Haven't really checked anything yet. And now for a stupid question, the air filter is in the box next to the battery right? I told you I was a novice... -
I really appreciate all of your opinions and ideas and just to clear some things up: no, i have never fired a handgun before, i went hunting with my dad one time when i was 12, and i did take one shot to see what it felt like. i think the rifle was a 30-06? i have done some target shooting with a 22 rifle when i was a teenager. I will definitely be installing some more lighting around my house and looking into an alarm system. As far as getting a handgun I'm not sure that i trust myself enough yet, but I like the idea of having a shotgun. I just hope that tonight my stepson will be able to sleep. He's been waking up every couple hours the last two nights, saying that he thinks he heard something, so what happened Friday has definitely affected him. I just want him to feel (and be) safe. Thanks again to everyone for your ideas. Todd

Very good points so far. There have been 5 break-ins in the last week, where they are coming through a window or door in the middle of the night, holding the homeowner at gunpoint, while others ransack the house. 4 of the 5 have been with older homeowners, 2 of them in their 80's. What makes this personal for me is that this past Friday my stepson was at his friends house with approx 20 other kids when 3 people came in with guns and bandanas, made all the kids (15-18 yrs old) strip down, and took wallets, jewelry, cellphones, keys, clothes, they even eat a big mac while they were there. A couple of the kids (my stepson included) got whacked on the side of the head a couple times with the guns. The trauma for him and those kids and the anger for me right now is unbelievable. Someone asked if I could pull the trigger; if it was your kid that happened to how would you answer that question.

Recently there have been several break-ins in my neighborhood and I have been thinking about purchasing a handgun. What do some of you recommend as far as caliber, brands, cost, safety, etc. This is all new to me.

Plug replacement 1984
KingSizer replied to bkupmstr's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm only getting 30 mpg and that's after using an entire can of seafoam. My next step is to change the plugs and possibly the wires. How much plastic needs removed to change the plugs and/or wires? And is it something a novice like me can do? -
Glad to hear that things turned out ok, and you didn't have to wait months and months of this thing dragging out. And thanks for keeping us posted.

Anyone ever take the motorcycle safety course
KingSizer replied to Mariner Fan's topic in Watering Hole
In Pennsylvania, to get you motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license you can go straight to the license testing center and do a skills test. Several people have said that the skills test they make you do are nearly impossible though. The other option is to sign up for a MSF class that consists of a 8 hours classroom time and a 50 point test, then 16 hours out on the course over 2 weekends. On the last day you do the skills test and if you pass they stamp your mc permit. There is a long waiting list to get into the class because they only had 16 bikes to use. They were little suzuki gz 250's. and everyone of them was scratched and dented. Of the 16 in my class there was 2 or 3 that didn't pass, so the instructors didn't just give anybody a free pass. I learned ALOT but I have probably forgot alot also, so I have thought about going and taking it again. There is no cost in PA to take the class. I would recommend taking the class to not only new riders but to anyone who rides, regardless of experience.- 31 replies

Help, it's an easy one, PLEASE!
KingSizer replied to KingSizer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thank you everyone. The locks turned real easy, I just couldn't get the bags to slide front or back and I couldn't remember which direction anyway. I had to pound them a few time before they would slide back at all, but once they did they popped right off. I can't believe how dirty it was behind there, probably why they wouldn't slide. I will have to take them off more often I guess. Oh well, time to ride (dry it off). Thanks again, Todd -
Don't know why mine are being so difficult right now, but I'm trying to take off the sidebags from an 84. I can't remember if you pull out then forward, forward then out, out then back, or back and out. They seem to be extremely tight for some reason and my frustration is about to break something. And YES, I already unlocked them, that's about the only thing that has worked right lately. btw, the trunk came right off... Someone's gotta know how to do this right??? Todd

Not sure if this is true or not but I think it's pretty good, even if it's not true. Sorry if anyone gets offended, but I just got this in an email. SCHOOL ANSWERING MACHINE This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended! This is the message that the Pacific Palisades High School California staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes. The outgoing message: Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen to all the options before making a selection: To lie about why your child is absent - Press 1 To make excuses for why your child did not do his work -Press 2 To complain about what we do - Press 3 To swear at staff members - Press 4 To ask why you didn't get information that was already enclosed in your newsletter and several flyers mailed to you - Press 5 If you want us to raise your child - Press 6 If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone - Press 7 To request another teacher, for the third time this year - Press 8 To complain about bus transportation - Press 9 To complain about school lunches - Press 0 If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable and responsible for his/her own behavior, class work, homework and that it's not the teachers' fault for your child's lack of effort: Hang up and have a nice day! If you want this in Spanish, move to a country that speaks it!

:rotfl: Don, sorry to hear about the scratch, but don't let it ruin your day, just a little aggrevation that will be fixed eventually. Like someone said once, "life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it".

This was parked next to my venture outside the restaurant tonight. Couldn't find the owner though. Not sure that I would ride it on the road. Although, shaft drive and a rubberband used for seat spring. Ya, definitely wouldn't take it on the road...

I would love to watch that video. Just might see something that could save my life someday. Add me to the list please, I promise to not copy it and will pass it along to whoever's next. Great idea KiteSquid...

Another 1st gen brake problem
KingSizer replied to PEIslander's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm having the same problem and I look forward to hearing some ideas. I think I have warped rotors or a high spot that rubs the pads on each rotation through the calipers. It sort of feels like it's one particular spot that gets tight and then releases, even though I'm not pumping the pedal and am applying the same constant amount of pressure. I put new pads on it recently, but I remember it sort of doing this before with the old pads. btw, what is runout?
