Hi Skid. Yes I am. I frequent 10m, 40m, and 75m and mostly on a weekend. How about you? We can set-up a time and frequency to have a QSO. 73 Mike

Check the idle speed before Carbtune

You may be right. It just makes sense to me. -
Check the idle speed before Carbtune
N3FOL replied to Canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is what I ordered yesterday together with the Carbtune II. I would check the idle first with the bike nice and warm before synchronizing the carburetors. http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/esi325.html -
I can flat foot one side, but not quite flat foot on the other side. You are right and I am glad that I did not have the bike lowered in any way. Regards and ride safe.

I agree. With the weight, I give the bike lots of respect. I cannot afford to loose concentration and lean it at a stop. Just like last night on my way home from work, they were paving parts of I-83N near the MD/PA line and it was a stop and go for about 15 minutes. One thing I like about this bike...even at slow speeds...it seems to be well balanced.

I traded in my '06 Vulcan 900 with 21K miles. At first they did not want to take the trade since it came from eBay, but the dealership was so willing to work with me throughout the deal.

+1 on that. The Venture looks great at every angle anywhere, anyplace. It surely is a head turner.

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
N3FOL replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The FRAM filter is reasonably priced and I intend to change oil and filter every 3K miles. If I want to pay extra, KN303 by K&N will be my next choice. -
shifter fell off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
N3FOL replied to clav_guy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This weekend is a good time for me to check bolts, since I am changing oil and final drive oil for the 1st 600 miles. -
My Venture is an '07 and I had it wired to stay 'ON' all the time on low or high beam. Not sure at this point how to re-wire to keep your aux light on all the time on high beam.

Gas stabilizer of sea foam?
N3FOL replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I like SeaFoam and it is widely accepted by the motorcycle community. I've used it several times on my previous bike and on my tractor and snow blower. Just remember to read the label and make sure that you are putting the right amount with the number of gallons you have.- 16 replies

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
N3FOL replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There seem to be a lot of people who likes FRAM filters and there are also those who dislike FRAM filters. I've been lucky so far (knocking on wood) that I've been using FRAM for the longest time on my cars and previous bike. My '95 SHO that has a Yamaha engine has almost 200K and lived on FRAM filters from day one. My '08 Prius has had 3 oil changes already and is currently living on FRAM filter. I still have a couple FRAM PH6017A left in my garage and may use that on my first oil change on the Venture. -
+1. No need to use a torque wrench. Just hand tighten and a 1/4 turn with the oil filter wrench.

Hello george_park. I have a buddy who owns a BMW and his headlight is also very blinding at any angle. It may really be your headlight aimed too high, but sometimes I doubt it if you have not made any adjustments previously. The best thing is to check it. I do like the aiming of my headlight as it is and it does light up the road + the light bar even on low beams. Wonder where you are in SE Pa. We live in Stewartstown near the MD/PA line.

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
N3FOL replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thinking that the Purolator is a car oil filter, I found a link for FRAM motorcycle filters that will fit the Venture. It is FRAM motorcycle oil filter model PH6017A and it is the same filter that I used on my last bike...the Vulcan. Here is the link. http://www.rkexcelamerica.com/street_fram_yamaha.html I can buy this moto filter from my local Advance Auto store. -
I have sat on my friend's TD, but did not really notice the placement of the handlebars compared to my Venture. Just looking at the seat of the Venture, if feels comfortable and I can ride for many hours without getting sore. If you plan to get the TD, I highly recommend upgrading to a Venture seat.

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
N3FOL replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I called our local Advance Auto and they could not cross reference an oil filter except the K&N filter part KN303 or KN303C for my '07 Venture. Thanks to this thread, I can now ask for PL14612 (will stay with the stock size). -
Carburetor Synchronization
N3FOL replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Keith, I may order the carbtune soon. Thanks for the site in California. How about the meter to check for RPM/idle. What kind of meter did you get? I should find out exactly where the idle screw is in my Venture. Have you sync your carbs lately?- 4 replies

Carburetor Synchronization

The 'Carbtune' looks like a very nice tool. Is this special tool only available at Yamaha dealers?- 4 replies

I plan to do my own maintenance for the 600 mile service recommendation. I can do the oil change, final drive oil, and do a whole lot of safety checks. There is one thing that I am not so sure off...is the carburetor synchronization. How is this accomplished? Is there a special tool? and/or is it necessary this early in the life of the motorcycle?

Decided not to buy 2007 venture
N3FOL replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There are still lots of good deals out there for a used or brand new Venture. I just got mine yesterday from a dealership in New Castle, PA. It was a 300 mile ride, but I really do not mind. For an '07 Blue Venture with 1 mile on the odometer and OTD price was $13500, I couldn't pass out the deal. -
Harley touring versus venture
N3FOL replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've had a V-Twin for a about 2 years and may never go back to a V-Twin as long as I have my RSV.
