treeman, Could you describe how your steering felt before you had the bearings greased.

Did the shop just tightened your steering head or did they tightened and added grease to the bearings?

Yamaman has an '01...so I assume this is also a 2nd gen Venture? -
There is another thread in the 2nd Gen section that talks about tightening the steering head. Lubricating the bearings may be a good preventative maintenance for these Ventures. When I reach 15K, I may tackle some of the lubrication points and let the shop deal with the harder parts of lubricating my Venture.

I have an '07 with a little over 1K miles. At what mileage should I expect to have a loose steering head? Is this pretty common to the 2nd gens?

I you personally do not want the S100 brand due to several bad hype, one can try 'Simple Green'. I've used it on my wheels and hard to reach places and it worked wonders as well. As you all know, it is available at your local Wally Mart store.

Good idea, Freebird. That product is a possibility. I will also take a look at their generic iPod holder that may enable me to select tunes while riding. The plan was to ride over to Radio Shack, but it is raining this AM...so I'll just take the w/out the trailer.

Thanks for the info, Freebird. I am also headed to our local Radio Shack tomorrow for a 1/8" stereo patch cable. Now I need to find a way to secure my iPod unto the bike/handle bars. Perhaps I need to checkout a case for my iPod and just use Velcro....

Freebird, I do have the Nano, so I feel good about that. But what kind of cable do I need to get? I know the Venture has a connection within the cassette player housing. Not sure exactly what hardware I should have on hand.

Have you seen the box of a ML series oil filter? Does it say anywhere for Motorcycle application? -
I use Pledge more often in the warmer months simply to make it easier to wipe off bug splats.

I think the M on 'ML16817' may indicate that it is manufactured for motorcycles. -
I have a bottle in my garage and I only use it once a year. Typically, I stay on top of my cleaning job on the bike and she gets a nice wipe/polish job after every other ride. Make sure when you do decide to use 'S100', do not use it on your blacktop driveway...it will discolor it.

I've had a similar close call as well. A two way lane...a truck with his left turn signal going the other direction and me with my left turn signal going the other way. As we approach the intersection, the young kid decided not to turn left instead stayed straight on the road...good thing I did not bite on his assumed intention to make a left turn or it could have been a head-on collision.

I actually have at least 4 of the chromed 1" spacer that I got from my local TruValue hardware store. It should look nice chromed.

Eddie, What color wire did you tap into in your Venture? The Signal Dynamics light bar seems to be a good match on the rear and is inexpensive.

I've included an image of how my Venture is doing under my sig. It has been drizzly/rainy here in SE PA and MD area, but weather looks good for tomorrow. Can't wait to fire up the Venture and find out how gas mileage will be on my next tank full.

I wonder if I can order a magnetic drain plug from my local Advance Auto store. The part on the website is 'MP-02', so I may check with Advance later this afternoon.

The correct size of left hand drill worked great for me, when drilling out stipped head bolts. Start with the smallest size and drill on the center of the bolt and work your way up in size. In no time, that bolt will start turning to the left and out the hole.

I always keep a good stock of Kawi 'Wipe Down' spray. For $4.50/bottle of a 16oz spray bottle last me a month. It works great with microfiber cloth available at Walmart.

I really think you made the right choice and stayed with Yamaha. Congrats and lets us see some pics after giving it a nice wash.

Very nice bike! Your Venture doesn't look too bad and dirty, but if I were you I would wait until after the service...then wash the bike.
