Got a good deal on tires
painterman67 replied to goatman123's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
the shinkos I had on my bike stuck like gorila glue.....realy sticky tires.I ended up getting 7000 on the rear and still have the front on the bike....close to 10000 on it now and still got a little left. 2 or 3 thousand more...... I like the tires jsut went with a e3 on rear. I think when its time to replace the front Ill go with an e3 there as well DAvid -

painterman67 replied to painterman67's topic in General Tech Talk
cleaned all the grounds today....no more spiking volts for now.............still have a drop in voltage when I crank up the revs .......I have no idea how to do the checks so Im thinking a trip to a friend or a dealor is in the future......for now its holding a steady charge....I put the battery on charge last night and it held 12.7 volts 6 hrs after the charger was removed.......bike cranked wright up when I put it abck in so Im thinking rectifier or stator but Im out of my league now. I can see the rectifier but can find the conections ....and at $109 plus change itll have to wait a bit DAvid -
i just want him mostly for the hide.........hes been seen twice in daylight but no shot was available. 80 yards out in bow season....that solid white hide will make a pretty tanned hide. David

Ok heres my problem, For 2 years straight now this bike has puked a battery. First was an original honda t type battery and now its a uasa that was installed new in feb. Went to crank the bike 2 days ago and it was dead. Checked the water and refilled with distileed water, jumped the bike and let it idle for close to an hr. BIked cranked back up after I cut it off so figured all is well. Today tried again same thing except water level was good. so put on the trickle charger thinking it just didnt get enough charge as it was showing 11.7 volts after 2 days setting static at 22 degress in the am. Charged for a few hrs and bike cranked wright up with full power. This is the same thing that happend on the first battery too. Heres where i get confused. I put the multimeter on the battery at idle and its charging at 13.4 volts. Brought up the revs( no tach so just brought it up) and ay first the meter went to 20.06 volts and then dropped to 12.6 volts. Ilet it idle again and meter went back up to 13.4 volts. I then did an unscientific test and noticed every time I rev the bike and set the thumb lock to hold it the head light gets a little dimmer. Volt meter also drop back to 12 or so volts every time. Did this multiple times and never seen and thing over 13.4 volts and thats always at idle. I checked the meter on my 91 vr and it showed just over 12 at idle and 14.1 at 3000 rpm so Im thinking meter is good. Round about the same numbers when it was checked on the e-250. So with all this Im thinking either a bad stator or voltage regulater. Any ideas. Help please as this is her bike and Id really like to get it wright for her. She will ride mine but shes scared of the weight . She has a hard time bringing it up to center and then her toes just barely touch. Any ideas are apreciated. Tahnks in advance David

I think if that was Laura the cussing woman might have found herself on the ground asking what happend.............oh yeah when I left I would have had to fill her car with exhuast by pulling right beside her nand flooring it with my foot on the brake at the same time. David -

yep thats whats confusing me too.........Ive looked even had 4tvalk over and he pumped the pedal and I still couldnt find it. At first I thought it was where I replaced the pads and maybey nedded bleeding and flushing so I did that. No luck. I kinda thinkits up close to the front as I recently found the chin guard cracked and it looks to be a chemical break and not a break from a hit but still cant find the leak. Even had the wife set on the bike and pump the pedal constantly to noluck. And yes Yammer it would be nice if we all lived on the same block. YOu might have ended up with another 1st gen in your stable as Ive let it set and have calmed down now and am no longer willing to lewt her go. At first it was agrevating and it would have went if someone offer a good price. Later DAvid

As much as I hate it. I think its time to take the 91 to the dealor. I am at my wits end here. I love this bike so selling it is not an option and it cant be all that bad . What Im dealing with is the rear brakes. I installed new pads and a new to me rear end in it and now it keeps leaking brake fluid. Add brake fluid to it and it pumps up and I have good brakes. They pulse but stop well. After a fw hrs riding the durned warning light goes off and sure enough its low on fluid again. I cant find the leak so I guess its off to the dealor for a check. Hopefully its simple as Im not cofortable on just front brakes. DAvid

NOw when I do buy heated gear Im going to get the heated liners. I found a really nice set of thermal line deer skin guantlets. They are good down to freezing but under that the hands get a little cold. So my theory is that since they are so comfy the liners would allow me to have a comfy set of guanlets when its not quite as cold and heated gauntlets when it gets really cold. Oh yeah I also have a set of deer skin light weight work gloves I use when its warm . The deer skin is just much more soft and comfortable to me than standard leather and I can feel the controls better. David
