  1. Here, maybe I can help.
  2. Folks, as far as I'm concerned, there is no issue. Many months ago, Charlie seemed to be bored and only rarely posted and when he did, it was typically something political and etc. I sent him what I thought was a nice email asking if he was OK and reminding him to please refrain from posting political topics. It wasn't a big deal, just a reminder of something that I'm sure he needed no reminder about but was simply ignoring. Rather than reply to me and discuss any issues that he had, he simply never replied and went away. He is welcome back here at any time but the rules have not changed. I will say this though. It's not a big deal this one time because he was replying to the many folks here that consider him a friend and had wished him a happy birthday. He let his membership expire long ago though. This forum was once open to all to read and post, supporting member or not, it was you...the membership here....who voted that only supporting members should be allowed to post. Using another members account to post messages should not become a habit. If money is an issue, just send me a message and I can help. I've donated a number of memberships to folks that I knew were having financial hardships.
  3. I tried a different plug. Not a new one but one out of a weed eater that was running fine.
  4. Well I got up early this morning and decided to get right on my "honey do" list. There were a couple of trees that needed cutting down, some trimming to do, some firewood to cut. Pulled out my old Poulan Wild Thing chainsaw and began the always pain in the butt task of TRYING to get it started. Got it started and cut about half way through the first tree and it quit again. I then spend about an hour trying to get it started again. Wouldn't even start with starting fluid even though it has spark. I about wore myself out trying to get the stupid thing started and so.....off to the store. I had already done a little research and had it narrowed down to either a Stihl or a Husqvarna. I had come to the conclusion that the Stihl was a slightly better saw but there is a Husqvarna dealer just down the road from me so I decided to give one a try. I don't use a saw that much. Probably less than a cord of wood a year and some light trimming and etc. I almost spent the extra money and stepped up to the heavier duty farm and ranch model but instead, saved the cash and went with the best home use model that they had. It is a model 445 with 18" bar. Got it home and it made quick work of the cutting that i had to do today. I just hope that it lasts for a few years and remains fairly easy to start. I'm getting old and don't like being worn out before I even get one started.
  5. You know what they say....better OFF than ON.
  6. OK.....I admit that I would NOT want to cross it on a motorcycle in those weather conditions but I would LOVE to see it in person.
  7. Never even seen one of those in person. Pretty cool old bike though.
  8. I suggest that you ask your son.
  9. Geezzz..........I think you guys are being a bit hard on the guy. Now most of us here who ride the Venture do so because we LOVE the V4 engine. If a V Twin was preferred, then there are a lot of bike choices out there. On the other hand, some of us also LOVE the style and the comfort of the second gen Venture. I have yet to find another bike, V Twin or otherwise, that offers the comfort and room of my RSV. So...if somebody loves the styling and comfort of the Venture but also happens to love the low high torque and more relaxed loping feel of a V Twin, then the combination mentioned would be a beautiful thing. So the question asked was not WHY anybody would want to but ..... has anybody seen it done. I have not and have no idea if it could be done or not but I can see where it might be an attractive option for some folks. So there.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  10. Heard about this on the news today, an entire Ice Cream Thanksgiving Dinner. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/ready-scoop-turkey-flavored-ice-cream-video-015056353.html An ice cream store in Arizona is offering some offbeat new flavors for the holiday season, including a turkey-flavored ice cream. Scooptacular owner Nindi Wadhwa tells a local CBS affiliate that his store will also be offering other Thanksgiving-themed flavors, including cranberry, pumpkin pie, sweet potato and sweet corn. "Customers ask what is that? Is that some kind of chocolate? And we tell them, 'No, it's the real deal.'" And Wadhwa means that literally. He and his employees handcraft their own ice cream flavors. And in the case of the Thanksgiving offerings, that means dropping portions of corn and turkey into the mixing batch. "We just wanted to have some fun with it," Wadhwa told CBS. "If you don't want to cook on Thanksgiving Day, you can come here and get it all in ice cream." So, what do the customers think? "It's the only food-flavored ice cream I've ever had," customer Ashley Steele told CBS. "I love it, and my kids love it."
  11. Not in my opinion. You say that the voltage is steady so assuming that you have a decent meter, I would think that any voltage fluctuation that is enough to cause the lights to flicker would show up on your meter. Now you say you tested the voltage at idle and at higher RPMs but where did you check it? At the battery? If you haven't done so, I would suggest that you take those same readings at the light. If you are not seeing any voltage fluctuations at the light, then I would be looking at the grounds. My headlight flickers a lot....but that's because of the modulator.
  12. and Happy Thanksgiving to you all from our house to yours. I am thankful for many things and this group is right up there at the top.
  13. LOL..... Corrected.
  14. I'm sure we can help you out if you really need some help for a new helmet. Do you take PayPal? I will make a donation.
  15. Please join me in welcoming Ad Custom Chrome to the list of vendors who offer us a discount. Brian manufactures the carb covers for the RSV and RSTD. I had to give this one some serious thought because we already have a long time member here, slowrollwv, who makes and sells the carb covers and also twinky covers. Brian understood my hesitation and desire to be fair about this and offered the solution that he would not market the smooth finish covers here but only the ball milled and custom engraved covers that slowrollwv is not selling. I think that was very fair of him. He seems like a great guy and I have no problem welcoming him to our family. You can find his ad with links to his website here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=726638#post726638
  16. This has been discussed here a few times and I don't remember ever seeing a really good solution...if any solution at all. There has to be a way to do it but nobody seems to have come up with one yet.
  17. Yes, I already have those though. What I'm looking for is the ball milled twinky covers to match them.
  18. From what I've seen, Charles does a fantastic job on the covers that he makes. If he had them in ball milled, I would have already bought a set. I really encourage any of you looking for the twinky or carb covers to contact him. His username here is slowrollwv and here is a link to his profile so that you can send him a PM or an email. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/member.php?do=getinfo&u=3801
  19. I thought he was just making the twinky covers? Anyway, I would love to have a set of the twinky covers but am keeping my eyes open for a set of the balled milled ones to match my other stuff.
  20. That website does not seem to be right. Did you spell it correctly?
  21. Another one that I've seen a lot of lately is that I have received a fax. There is a link to click on to retrieve the fax. I haven't researched it and would NEVER click on any link that I wasn't sure where came from but just a warning in case others of you get it.
  22. There is one last thing I would check before thinking the worse. Inside the fairing there are 5 large connectors that connect the various components. If you open the fairing, you will see them on the left side of the headlamp as you face the front of the bike. These connectors are well known to suffer from contact issues. They are maybe an inch in diameter so easy to find. MANY MANY of us have had to open the fairing and re-seat these connectors. It is usually necessary to unplug them and plug them back in a few times to get them to make good contact again. The normal practice is to then use so dielectric grease on them. That is the next thing I would try and about the only other thing I can think of.
  23. Are you SURE that the CB volume is at max? If it is and you are having a low volume problem then it is something other than the antenna. You probably know this but I'm just trying to make sure all bases are covered. The CB volume is separate from the radio volume. You have to press the CB button to make sure you are on CB and then turn the volume up. If that is the case and you do indeed have the cb volume on 20 then there is certainly a problem with the system other than the antenna. There is no way that I could run mine on 20. I would be able to hear it a half block away.
  24. I know...but mine end with...WOW...what a way to go.
  25. Well you guys can laugh all you want but I would NOT want to be the one riding it when the owner finds out who stole her shoe.
