I think our police dept here moved to a digitally encrypted system a few years ago, exactly because of this issue. I understand now unless its an emergency most of the information exchange is entered on the cruisers laptop and encrypted point to point and not broadcasted at all over the voice system. Brian

Are the original headlights made for Tractors?
friesman replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in Watering Hole
Yeah I really dont want to melt the rubber tunnel, but I really dont like the dim light either. I am not a real handy guy with fabrication so if I can get by with the Silver star and no melting and no need to fabricate I would like to try it first. Dan, you are running this phillips silver star now with no issues on an 83-85? Has anyone tried lining/replacing the rubber tunnel with an aluminum or similar heat resistant lining, like sheets of that silicone rubbery stuff they make those baking sheets and oven mitts out of now? I was thinking its also time to get something brighter in the bike, (the headlight, not me you guys,,,,,,lol) Not really sure either what will work in the bike without taxing the electricals and without modding a bunch of stuff. Brian:cool10: -

Time to take a road trip today to Moose Jaw Sk. its about an hours drive to the west of my home and a nice little oasis in the middle of the prairie. Please excuse the shots, I am not a phtographer but I thought people may want an idea of what is in Moose Jaw if they are going to make the trip. Today was a gorgeous day, especially since its in the middle the first long weekend of the summer. We are having a very late spring as its been very cool and very dry. Usually the Wakamow Valley is lush and green by this time of year. Click here to view the pics, http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/MooseJawMay18_08 Brian:cool10:

Thanks everyone for the ideas and help, the plunger was stuck in so ive taken it out and cleaned things up a bit, so now it works but there seems to be scratches on the plastic ball thingy inside, so I think its just a matter of time before it binds again. So I think I am gonna order a new switch just to have one around cause the stealer here doesnt stock anything. Brian:cool10: -

85 Yamaha Venture Royale 1200
friesman replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
check your fuel filter and replace it if you havnt done it recently, pull the fuel line off and try to crank the engine, see if gas comes out of the line. Point it at a container cause if its work it will come out quickly, if it doesnt could be fuel pump. Also, theres reports in here of guys having a lot of rust in the bottom of the tank, worth checking that out too. Brian -

I am running an 85VR with 40,00kms. The bike is new to me this spring, but it had a nasty squirrely feeling at all speeds when I bought it and it had brickstones on front and back with what should have been another years wear on the rear. After reading around in here I replaced the back with a dunlop. Ive played with air pressures in the tires anf find funning 38 front and 40 back seems to make it handle ok. I will replace the front brickstone at the end of the year as I find it seems a bit slippery when cornering, but I will just keep and eye on it for now. Last weekend went out to the beaches an hours ride east of town and tried up to 160kmh (100mph) without any issues but seemd to get a bit loose at that point. (coulda just been my "old guy" nervous brain imagining it:whistling:) I prolly averaged 120-140kmh. I keep the class system at medium on both front and back most of the time but have played with settings and it doesnt seem to make any difference in handling to me. (but I am a svelte 285, lol) Brian:cool10: -

Rather than to change the bike I opted to use the stock cassette player and bought a cassette adapter that plugs into my mp3 player. The cassette adapter runs fine and i slightly notched the top of the player to allow the cord to come out while the door is closed to make it neater. I then attached some double sided velcro to the top of the cassette door and to the back of my mp3 player and it works bery well. The 8 gig player runs as long as I ever want to ride! I originally tried plugging an fm transmitter into my mp3 player and tune my radio to its frequencybut it didnt give near as much sound. OH yes, i forgot, my ride is an 85 1st gen vr Brian :cool10:

I think we got more problems than just high gas prices
friesman replied to friesman's topic in Watering Hole
IN one of the articles quoted in a post above in USA today, stated that most of the canadian pumps are temperature regulated to dispense the correct amount and correct based on temperature, so those of us in colder climates dont get that bump in btu's from a cold gallon (or liter) . It seems again that the oil companies try to work all the angles their way, but we have to blame our governments more because they allow it to happen. I am not normally a militant or a guy who takes things to heart, but I really dont like to feel like I am bein g cheated. -
I have the original chain lockin the pouch for my 85VR but ive never locked it and never had an issue until 2 weeks ago when i think some kids popped a button off my cassette and took my short antenna. I have bought a trailer to use as a garage at my condo to eliminate the kiddy stuff, but I am kinda curious if I am gonna have to look at using the lock when I get down to California for the western Rally in Morro Bay. Yesterday after all the stuff had hit the fan in the newspapers up here about all the gas pumps selling a short liter (quart for our US bros), the Feds made a big announcement that they have upped the fines to 10,000 bucks and will do a surpise inspection of every gas pump "at least" once a year. "At least once a year" testing isnt often enough to keep track of companies that seem to have a track record for ripping off the consumer. It seems to me that we need to keep a lot closer eyes on this industry than this. Gee, can you say knee jerk reaction? Brian -
Thats what I was going to do also, as i have been having trubble with kids playing with the bike while its parked. My trailer has barn doors on the back and I am looking for a ramp solution for it that is quick and easy so i can use the trailer as a garage without it being a hassle . I was figuring I need 3 to 4 feel long and a minimum of 3 feet wide so I can put my feet down when backing out. What kind of doors do you have on your and what ramp solution did you come up with? PS sorry if I hijacked this thread but i was curious about other trailers and how the ramps worked out. Brian

Thats the reason I went with the flat front continental cargo, I figured I would have to save one heck of a lot of fuel to make up the difference. I found a 6x10 single axle trailer about 6 months old for about 1500 bucks less than a new v front.
