  1. I finallt got my clearview windshield yesterday after a long wait. I think it was almost 4 weeks after they processed the charge on my credit card and I actually ordered about 4 weeks before that. But I love it, it looks good, i love the vent and light grey tint, and I feel like I have a lot less buffetting and windnoise with the tallest widest shield they had for the 1st gen. I can actually hear my stereo on the highway now, woo, hoo! Its an easy install and everything fits exactly as it should. It also seems a LOT thicker than my old windshield and far more ridgid. 2. hi I am going to be passing thru your area heading to VentureWestIv and plan on stopping for a ride around Carson City and Lake tahoe if I have time. I was wondering whether you and dkknight would like to meet for a cuppa coffee , our schedules permitting on Tues Aug 11 . It would be nice to put a face to the on-screen names if we get a chance.

  4. just click the link or look in forums for the manuals and psrts diagrams http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=90 Brian:cool10:
  5. What math skills? I deny I have any.
  6. Geez good deal. I just spent 360 bucks for my vented XL clearview that I am installing today, I think mine is about 2 inches over stock at 24 inches so i guess that would make stock 22 inches. OOO i was a math guy, cant you tell! LOL Some of the other wiser, more knowlegable guys should be by later to confirm (maybe deny) this. Brian
  7. I leaving for VentureWest IV next Sat morning (the 9th of Aug) from Regina Sk. (about an 90min drive directly north of the Montana/NorthDakota border) and am probably going to be on highways I-15 to I-86 to I-80(basically thu Montana to idaho, to nevada to california) down to Sacramento eventuallly getting to SLO. Has anyone travelled those recently that knows of anything I should be aware (or beware) of. I would like to avoid construction if at all possible but its summertime and its just one of those things thats going to happen. I am also taking my time and not in a rush so if anyone knows of some places that are a must see along the way please let me know. Or if you know of some good spots to pull off to stop for the night and camp, I would appreciate if you would share that. I should add that I will be taking the SUV and trailering the bike down to Sacramento and then riding from Sacramento south to SLO Heres a link to the route I will be taking http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Regina&1s=SK&1a=Sherwood+Drive&1z=S4R&1y=CA&1l=50.47702&1g=-104.66385&1v=STREET&2c=Sacramento&2s=CA the map is at the bottom of the page Thanks for any input Brian:cool10:
  8. My experience is that squeaky brake is usually dust, so i go to the spray wash and gently flush a bit of water on the rotor and against the friction pad surface being careful not to spray your bearings or any rubber fittings on the wheel or forks. I will be putting a new clearview with the vent on my 85 1st gen later today but I ordered the tallest one from them as I felt I was getting buffetted all the time at highway speeds. I couldnt even hear my stereo (which is louder than OEM) because of the wind noise. Plus I HATED getting those big greasy hoppers right on my cheek or in the middle of the visor on the full face helmet. Brian
  9. I would suggest you check at the bottom of this page for things to check with the class system and how to repair it. I am sure some wise tech guys will be along shortly, but that will get you started. Brian
  10. HMMMM you should harness some of that speed for good instead of evil and put it into distance so we could see you down at Venture west in a few days. :backinmyday:LOL! Everyone s from CA is going to miss you this year. Brian
  11. Thanks for the comprehensive list Ron, After looking at that list I guess there isnt much point in taking it along. Ive used radar detectors for years and they are legal here. i can list about 7 or 8 times where its saved me a ticket as it gave me just enough warning to get slowed down to the limit when I am in traffic as it picks up the "bounce " off the cars in front.. It doesnt work when youre the only guy on the road, however, as you dont get enough notice when youre the only target for the LEO to focus on, lol. PS. Great pic of your bike and trailer, Ron! Brian
  12. I was thinking about getting details covered as I am getting ready to leave for VentureWest next week. I was wondering if radar detectors are legal in the northwest states? I will be travelling thru MT, ID, NV, CA, OR ,and WA. if they are illegal is it just illegal to run them or is it illegal to even have in your possession? I would also like to confirm that radar detectors are legal in BC and Alberta, I seem to remember that they were but now have the laws changed? Thanks Brian:cool10:
  13. Well, I hate to admit this, but I was kinda thinking of looking around while I am at Venture West in a week or so, and if I find a nice 2nd gen for the right price,(dont tell anyone, but I like the way they look too),,,,,I will hafta look at it, wont I? it will fit inside the trailer........(hmmmm theres gotta be a way to get my 1st gen home if i buy a 2nd gen.) Brian
  14. if my hip would let me sit that many hours on the bike, I would prolly be riding not driving, Oh well , At least I am going there somehow, and its gonna be a lot of fun you all are gonna miss if you dont show up. Hey Rocket, I am only trailering to Sacramento, so I am still going to be riding as far as some of the California ppl. So there! LOL! Brian
  15. No mount for the bike yet, but I had it attached to the handlbars with velcro strips for a day just to see how it worked and yes i could here the directions at low speeds around town but on the highway I had to look at it. But I cant hear my stereo on the highway either and I have a Kenwood deck with pioneer speakers so it may not be the GPS issue just a loud bike. Brian:cool10:
  16. Up here in Western Canada it is higher still, there is a 93 VR in a local classified site with 64k miles on it, nice shape from the look of it but he is asking 5500 bux. Geez I thought pay 4k for mine last spring was too high, but prices around here are nuts, with the oil driving the economy and pushing our prices up. Almost any bike is with 30 percent more than it was a year ago around here. 93 VR ad- http://www.usedregina.com/classified-ad/6387168 Brian
  17. WHen do we start lining up for orders! better get that sewing machine warmed up, youll have all the VR's wanting them now...... Looks good, if ya wanna make a few bucks buy selling em let me know, i owuld like sumthing like that. Brian
  18. here is a basic Garmin model that I have, while I have only had it a few days it seems to be very good for what I want. It moves easily from car to bike and its nice and portable to put in a pocket, and its waterproof. The software for all of north america is unlocked including the cities. I didnt need something with music and stuff and this seems to fit the bill for me for 129 bucks cdn. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3094213&CatId=2374 and heres a review of an older model of the Quest, mine is a newer model. http://gpsinformation.us/quest/questrev.html It comes with a mount for the car, but need to get a mount for the bike yet. Brian
  19. Don't sit on the couch before changing, and you don't want to take a ride on the bike after without changing. Hmmm sounds like you know from experience? Esp the couch remark seems kinda telling.....lol!! brian:stirthepot:
  20. Glad youre ok and made the right choice for today. Brian
  21. Our price around here is a bit better , we seem to be around 899 a can.
  22. Yeah, what he said. Also I am in not in neutral except at very long lights, I think that if something is coming my way I would rather have an out in a hurry than be in neutral. Brian
  23. Hey Sarge its closer than kitchener so you shouldnt need as much "down" time....lol Travelling with you guys sounds like fun and dont worry, I am an old guy that doesnt want to travel very fast either, speed limits are fine, esp on unfamiliar roads. Ive already booked a room in the hub for the rally, all I gotta do now is get the time off. Brian
  24. I guess you had the time to wonder about them as you were laying there on the ground givin them the close once over a couple of days ago.......:rotfl: Sorry, couldnt resist....
  25. Here is an article citing several studies basically saying they dont work. Its taken from the Internet BMW rider website. http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/deerw.html Brian
