  1. Here you go!! A run to New Ulm, MN for a picnic at the Schell's Brewery Park. First pic is me with bike in front of the brewery (Denise took the shot, as we had no ready volunteers for the camera. Then a shot of the sign for company headquarters. A shot thru some of the gardens, toward the old home on the grounds. And best of all, my little 3 yr old g-daughter helping Gampa polish up the bike for the road. Next target: you, your bike, and an old country church that is still in use.
  2. Juggler, You were within 20 miles of us on this run, and we had supper in New Ulm on Sat night too. Of course we ate at Mac D's on the go, and actually ate at the Schell's Brewery Park, where we got the picture for the Scavenger hunt. Haven't got time to download the pictures and get it posted. Next time you head this way, give us a shout. Maybe we can hook up. Larry
  3. That's a beautiful area for a ride, Juggler. We have a daughter that lives in Winona, and hope to spend 10 days or so down in that area in Sept. Ride out from Winona, and circle back every day or two. Should be fun. Larry
  4. Bubber, We have a "can't-miss wedding that day, so we can't make it either. If not for that, well, you never know..... Larry
  5. Al, If you get to Octoberfest in New Ulm you are only 30 miles from us. October is a busy month for us, but keep in touch on this. Maybe we can hook up. Larry
  6. Hey Al & Renata: It's not black cherry.......but what a buy......and a great adventure to get it home. Had to be fun, other than the bus trip, I expect. I know you'll love the '03. See you down the road sometime. Larry
  7. Yeah, you do have to really heave on it to keep them from spinning. If they're like mine, the surfaces are smooth, and only tightening the bolt pulls them together, and friction keeps them from spinning. Kuryakyn shows some adapters on their website that are "splined", I think for the purpose of helping out with this problem. You should be able to get them tight enough to keep them in place though. Tighten the "footpeg fastener" into the "male mount" on you instruction pictures. Good luck. Larry
  8. Dave If you open the switchblade, there's another allen screw, a big one, deep in a hole that's partially covered by the rubber pad on the outside end of the peg. That's the one that tightens up on the adapter, and keeps them from turning. Larry
  9. When we got back to biking a few years ago, the first bike had to be one that we both could ride solo, and be big enough to ride 2-up comfortably, and we ended up with a Honda Shadow Spirit 1100. Denise rode that thing around and around the yard, up and down the driveway, stopped and started a LOT, and never really had trouble. I told her she was doing the hardest part of riding, going slow for so long, but it was good practice, and she did ride a few times herself. Then she took the training course, and they used bikes in the 175 cc range for that, and she came home thinking that the 1100 was too big for her, that she wasn't really in control. So we went looking for a smaller bike for her, ending up with a Honda VLX 600. It was really low and light compared to the 1100, and she rode it a fair bit. Then came the RSV, and the 1100 went down the road, and she never got on the 600 again. Loves the back of the RSV, and doesn't care if she rides her own. Both Hondas are now gone, and the RSV is racking on the miles. The 600 you have should be a really good learners bike though. If you want to look at something else, I'd suggest a Suzuki Boulevard in the 800 class. We would have gone that route instead of the 600, but they were just out at the time, and used ones were pretty much unavailable. Just my thoughts.....
  10. OK Guys, Here are the pegs I have to spare. They have Honda adapters. Fit on both a Shadow Spirit 1100 and a VLX 600. I can't say if they will adapt to what you have in mind, but will take measurements or whatever you need to figure it out. http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w317/larrykir/Kuryakyn%20switchblade%20pegs/100_0627.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w317/larrykir/Kuryakyn%20switchblade%20pegs/100_0628.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w317/larrykir/Kuryakyn%20switchblade%20pegs/100_0629.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w317/larrykir/Kuryakyn%20switchblade%20pegs/100_0630.jpg There is a bit of rust on some of the spacers, but the chrome on the pegs is shiny and clean. Very good shape. Anybody interested for, say, half price of new? Larry
  11. I've got a pair of the standard switchblade pegs with Honda adapters, that I would make you a deal on. I took them off my Honda Shadow before I sold it. They are in very nice shape. If you're interested, let me know. Maybe we can get together on a price. Larry
  12. We had a Shadow Spirirt for a few years, and had it overheat on us in the Black Hills one time. We discovered that a small stone had somehow gotten jammed in the fan, so the fan couldn't run, and the fuse blew. It ran cool at decent speeds, but got hot in the hills. That's what I'd be looking at first, as you already advised him. Good luck. Larry
  13. Our thoughts and prayers go out for you too Bubber. Hope you're able to find work soon, and maybe this will work to eventually put you in a better position than before. Hoping for the best....... Larry
  14. Joe, Can you give me some inside dimensions on the boat trailer? Also the size of the cooler rack? Have you towed it much yourself? I've never pulled a trailer, and didn't plan on starting, but we do miss camping when we're on the bike, and that cute litlle boat trailer has us thinking mighty hard. Just curious how the trailer affects the handling and mileage. What size tires?? Thanks, Larry

    gramps

Hey Gramps, congratulations on the new little one!! Hope all are doing fine. The grandkids just get more and more fun as they start to grow, so enjoy 'em. I suppose at some point they get old enough that Grandpa isn't that fun or cool anymore, but my oldest is 2 1/2, and I'm still ok. Have fun, Larry
  16. We'll be thinking of you, and praying for you. Hope all goes very well. Larry & Denise

    Hobbies

Grandkids Building muzzleloading rifles and fowlers Hunting deer and turkeys with ML rifles and fowlers Furniture and cabinet making (though this has been mostly replaced by ML rifles and fowlers) Wife says it's a good thing she got the house fixed up before I started in on building ML's We like to travel, most recently this has been on the RSV. At one time I was an avid golfer, and archery deer hunter. Newest thing we've been messing with is geo-caching. It's a good fit for motorcycling, gives you a destination when you didn't really have one, and an excuse to get off the bike and get some excercise, as well. It's led us to some neat places that we had no idea were there, some of them pretty close to home. Larry
  18. Renata, Sorry to hear that you found so much bad news on your trip to Germany. I know it wasn't what you had planned, but remember that the news would have been the same, whether you were there or not, and this way you were there with your family and your friend, as you all go through some tough times. Just being there for each other is often about the best thing you can do to get through. Remember, too, that there are many of us here that are keeping your Dad, you and Al, and the rest of your family in our prayers, and though we can't be physically THERE for you, we are HERE for you. Here's hoping and praying that your Dad makes a good recovery, and that the year ahead goes better for you all. Keep us posted about your dad when you can. Here's a big hug for you..... Larry & Denise
  19. We went to the MSP show a couple years ago. Lots to look at, and the best part was you could easily go back and forth from one bike to another for comparisons. If you're looking at getting a new bike, it's a great way to see a lot of possibilities under one roof. The vendors encouraged you to climb aboard and ask questions. More room around the bikes than in your typical dealer setting too. If I remember right, my buddy got a new zipper sewed into his jacket while we were there. Picked it up before we left. He was happy with the price too. I guess the fact that we haven't gone back tells you we didn't think it was THAT great, but it was worth doing once, anyway. Larry
  20. You were on the money there, it was in my spam folder. Thanks for the help. Now to get the rest of the download right....... Larry
  21. Did any of you get the poi-factory files loaded and working? I got on their web-site and registered last night. Screen said they would be sending me a password by email, but as of yet, I haven't heard from them. Any luck, out there? Larry
  22. I had a set of the K-switchblades on my Honda Shadow before I got the Venture. Had home-built forward controls on that bike and the switchblade pegs. I would flip them open when on the open road for longer stretches and get some heel support. Not as good as the floorboards on the Venture, but better than plain pegs, in my opinion. I still have those pegs (with Honda adapters), as I sold the bike with the original pegs. They're available if you are interested.
  23. Renate, you are rich you say??? Hit the lotto??? I can soooooooo see you and Al on a black-cherry 2006, right?? Glad to hear Al's doing well on getting home. Later, Larry
  24. Great news, Renate!!! Breathed a sigh of relief, and a prayer of Thanks for his safety, and your having found out that he was okay. Tell him to be careful out there, and give him a big for us. Give yourself one too, that will help 'til he gets home to do it for you. Larry
  25. Hi Renate, Here's some more hoping and praying that all is well with Al. Sure enjoyed meeting you and Al at PIP. Keep the faith, and I hope you hear from him soon.:bighug: Larry & Denise
