  1. Yeah, try reading http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=489
  2. Ya know as much as I like 1stGens, when the price starts creeping up close to what a clean '99RSV is selling for, I'd think better of pulling the trigger on it...
  3. The locks are probably full of gunk and need to be cleaned and lubed. The only thing holding the bag on is a wedge that pulls out of the way for removal. Sometime when it gets ornery you can take a long screwdriver, get in there, and push the wedge to the side. And the tank may need a slap toward the rear to get it moving. Once it's off, lube everything with Tefflon dry lube. Get too much oil in there and the lock will start picking up dirt again quickly.
  4. What a bunch of BS. That was 27 years ago.... What ever happened to the statute of limitations....
  5. It doesn't unscrew.... Takle the screw out of the side and pull it straight out. It's a slip fit with the 'o' ring.
  6. Oh hell JB!! It's old age.... Once you hit 40 it's a down hill slide.. Hope that leg heals up quickly..
  7. Are you kidding me?? Try riding a 1stGen for a while. Sorry you feel that way Rick, but I personally know that any criticism is done in 'rib poking' gest, or for the sake of conversation. I also know that if a member of this board needs help or advice there'll be plenty of it offered. It's unfortunate for you that this board is mainly Venture oriented, and there has been a lot of discussion about Harleys over the years, both positive and negitive, but that's life and ya gotta roll with it. Hope you stick around.
  8. I've posted this here before, but I guess one more time ain't gona hurt. The pick shows it in the off position.
  9. I'm gonna stand in line right behind you.... Did I say that???
  10. I agree with Brian. June..July are the best times to ride through Glacier.
  11. Nice pics Cindy. I think I saw a segment about Lamberts on the food channel once... ???
  12. Let's take this thing in a different direction. What kind of battery do you have installed and how old is it? My spin on this is the battery may be marginal, but as long as you ride it regularly it's charged to max, but if the bike sits for any extended time it looses charge and is not putting out enough amps to keep the motor turning over, as well as the coils fully charged, resulting in a weak spark. If it's a wet cell battery, and it has a few years on it, it may be your problem.
  13. And some are so doped up they don't give a damn about where they are or what they're doing....
  14. Well that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling about flying any time soon... I was watching FOX News last night, and Jeraldo Rivera had a document saying that same aircraft had a hydralics failure and had to return to the airport, and then just two days later that same plane went swimming in the Hudson. And now no one can locate the pilot??? Ummm????
  15. I use Maguires Chrome polish. Does a very nice job. MOF I got a buy on some from ACE Hardware... my daughter works in the regional office... and ended up donating 3 cases to the National VR Raffle in Kitchner last summer, and come to think about it I haven't heard a word about it one way or the other??? Anyone had a chance to give the stuff a try??
  16. Ya know... I don't care what Harley does... or Yamaha does... or any other manufacturer does... New bike sales suck, and folks are going to get laid off when they can't sell to the dealers. Right now the pipe lines are full, and dealer sales are flatter than a pancake. Even if a dealer was lucky enough to work himself into a low inventory position, he sure as 'H' isn't going to load up on new inventory that just sits while he pays flooring every month. Just like the consumer isn't going to stick his neck out and burden himself with a $20K loan on a new bike when the future prospects are so blurry......
  17. There might be a record of the 'event' on the computer. Have a mechanic see if he can get a readout....
  18. Yep, what Bob said.... I've noticed the sales on Ebay are very slow, and listings for popular items are few and far between also. Even tho it's winter, I've been following Ebay long enough to see that this year is especially quiet.... I have some really nice items that will be listed, but I'd like to get close to max dollar for them to recoupe some of the bucks I've spent. So they sit waiting for better times.... BTW, if anyone takes the floorboards I have the matching set of passenger boards in so-so condition available.
  19. Survival in the grreat white north........
  20. Yeah, it might Earl. As long as the tape stays together when the screw is threaded in. Silicon actually gets right into the surface molicules. It's nasty stuff if you ever want to glue something to that area. Nothing sticks to cured silicon...even more silicon... Don't ask me how I know that.... As far as treating a SS screw with it, you don't need much...a little dab'll do ya'
  21. I really don't ever pay much attention to the forum a post is in because I hit the 'new posts' and read everything. Although in essence I agree about using the correct forum. MOVE 'M DANO.....!!!
  22. And they say white men can't jump......
  23. The screws are a nice idea. I've also found them at ACE Hardware. One thing you need to take care of is coat the threads with some sort of silicon to prevent galvanic corrosion. It occurs between Stainless and aluminum because there's quite a difference between the two metals on the noblility scale. On boats we have to be carefull about that all the time. The silicon makes a barrier... a good thing... between the aluminum to the stainless, and prevents electrons from transfering and corrosion occuring. The aluminum will disintigrate and turn to a white powder, and since the carb body is aluminum that can't be a good thing.
  24. I finally ended up using the same GM Orange stuff George, and for the same reason. Besides the price difference is about $10 bucks less per gallon than Amsoil. Flushed the entire system and it actually made a difference in the runing temp on the '83.
  25. The controller on my F250 can be adjusted for response time and pressure. Why would a bike be any different???
