Shoulda retired a couple of years ago when things were a bit rosier. A few of us were treated to a tour of the Hollister plant last summer on the way to VWIV. Fasinating place. Maybe the new owners will make 'm a bit softer....

You can get the hitch from Neosho Fiberglass for $70 bucks. Crazy website, but if you poke around there's a pic on there somewhere. It's what I put on my PiggyBacker.

Choke Question for the Carb Guru's
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Idles fine, so I don't think it could be the idle circuits. I also run about a half can of Sea Foam every third tank, and store it for long periods during the winter with a Sea Foam mix in the tank and bowls.. It doesn't make any difference if it's summer or winter tho-. It might be the inrichment valves, but they seem to work once it's fired, and the R's increase once it's running, and will slow down by reducing the choke lever, which should be leaning the idle mixture... -
How many will buy carb diaphragms
Condor replied to Freebird's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dave- Most of us have been replacing them as needed, or trying to repair the old diaphragms, due to the price of just one diaphragm assembly via Yamaha. It would be a lot better to replace them new all at once, but getting 4 of them would run over $200 bucks....and up!! If this thing works out for the diaphragms only, I can see initially selling 200-300 sets. There's a bunch of 1stGens out there.... And beside the clutch, it's one of the easiest fixes on the bike.... Jack- 57 replies

Choke Question for the Carb Guru's
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
On all four carb's at once??? -
On the '83 when you try to start it cold, and set the choke lever to full on, it will not fire....ever.. unless I start to gradually reduce the choke setting while cranking. Then about half way off it fires but stumbles, and I need to go back up to full on to keep it running. I can also not give it any choke, and it'll fire right off the git-go, but need to give it full choke quick to keep it running. After it's runing with full on choke it only idles around 1500 rpm, but as it warms up it steadly increases to 3000rpm maybe more??. When it gets to 3 grand I start cutting back on the choke until it's around 2000rpm and then the r's will continue to climb back up to 3 as it get's even warmer. After about three of these 'adjustments' I can back the choke all the way off and it will idle at a 1000rpm. I've been living with this for a couple of years now. It's not something that causes any worry. When warm the bike starts and runs great. All diaphragms are perefect. Recent plugs and carb sync. Any ideas????

I think if I had that sort of potential mechanical failure, I'd install an alarm switch just above the level of the sump pump. Kinda like we do on a boat. If the bilge pump fails an alarm bell goes off that'll wake the dead.

I always have to toss this in once in a while. If your clutch is slipping in high gear when the engine gets warmed up, but is solid until then, it's your expansion hole in the master that's plugged up, and not allowing the hot expanded fluid to excape back into the reservoir. Or... your reservoir is too full. OK, now I'm good for another 4-5 months....

Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
Condor replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think what we're going to need to do is find out what the minimum quantity would be required for maximum discount, then have JB or a volunteer to start collecting orders and money. Or...someone pony up the money up front, and then take orders. If they require a 100 piece minimum, it could run up in the $1000 area. However I don't see a problem selling 100 sets.... Story: Back in the days, when I bought and sold cameras, I had a friend who was a pilot for PanAm in the pacific, and when he'd lay over in Japan or HongKong he'd pick me up Nikon front and rear lens, and body caps at about 160¥ ea. with the dollar at 360¥/$1. I used to have him pick up 400-500 at a time. When he came through customs he told them he had a lot of cameras.... -

I'm going to let someone else step up to the plate on this one. I'm still wrestling with MAC on the last group buy. BTW Earl. I had an extra slider/diaphragm assembly and figured what the 'H', and the rubber pulled right out. Boy do I feel paranoid..... Who ever is successful putting together a group buy, I'm in for a couple of sets..... Another thing. From the picture it looks like these have the correct sized alignment tab. No carving to make it fit... -
I think it depends on how sophisticated you want the site to be. If it just going to be for information then you could probably do it yourself. If you're looking for a lot of pazazz it will probably be better to have someone do it for you. I put together my biz site using Front Page. Started with FP98, and I think I've been using FP2002 for a while now. It's a wyswig.. 'what you see is what you get' type editor, and operates like any word processoing editor. It does all the html coding in the background. The cost to register your site depends on who you deal with. I use http://www.internic.net/ for www.Cast-Aways.com , and it runs $99 bucks for 5 years. You'll also need to find a Host for your site. I use Earthlink.net and it's $14.95 per month. You can find cheaper hosts, but I've had several over the years and Earthlink is by far the best in the customer service dept. Hope this helps.

I'm just a one machine home office set up, but I've been running Trend PC-Cillan for close to 10 years, and it's bullet proof. The first time the virus checker ran me $29 bucks, and lasted for 5 years with auto updates. Now I have the full firewall and it's around $40 bucks per year. Highly recommended...

Let us know what you come up with Squeeze. JB already contacted the ebay seller and he stated that he can only get 1 set at a time.... which I think is BS, and as long as he can controll the market he can make a ton.... Kinda like Big Oil... Someone has to be making these in quantity, and unless he has the distribution rights to the US.. which I doubt.. we should be able to go direct with a group buy. And I bet they don't cost more than a couple of bucks apiece. I tried your link for the Japanese company and it came up as a bunch of jiborish. Probably because of the Kanji based figure writing. -
Hard Corbin seat.
Condor replied to Tartan Terror's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
We took a tour of the Corbin factory on the way to SLO last summer, and I asked the gal heading up the tour about their seats being so hard. Her reply was that's the only way they are made... So it sounds like they have 'given' a little.... -
If you settle on an RJ-Air call me. I may be able to help. I have 2 ea red; 1 Large, and 1 medium. Also 2 whites; 1/lg and 1 sm. These 4 shoei's are the last of a large group of helmets I picked up at an auction last year. I've reduced the price down to $95 bucks plus shipping to clean 'm out..
