Those '99's and maybe a few years afterwards had shocks that didn't last all that long.. It was one of the things members suggested to check when looking at my '99. Luckily it had been replaced under warantee in 2004. Hopefully the replacement will last longer.... The PO never added any air presure to the suspension front or rear since he bought it new.... Hope it doesn't screw things up....

About the only big difference I can see between it and the StratolinerS is the batwing. But I do like that batwing look..... Can you imagine where we'd be without Harley.....:rotf:

Just thought I'd mention this.... With the Euro falling like a rock against the dollar you can get a Carbtune and storage case shipped to your door for around $75.00. I think I paid about $115 bucks when I bought mine a couple of years ago. Good company to do biz with... Ooops, my bad. That's for the 2 column. The 4 will run about $85US. Still a deal...

I just leave the reserve on 24/7. Figure out what your mpg is and start looking when the milage equals 4 gallons... or the last bar... You might think about picking up a Carbtune. Right now the exchange rate is very good between the Euro and the USDollar. I paid over $100 US when I bought mine, and now the rate is around $1.25 per 1 Euro. With the pouch it'll run about $75 bucks and that includes shipping. This way you won't need to keep runing around to find someone's to borrow...

Your email address is hidden by Craigslist if you use their system, and check the box to hide it, so I don't know why you wouldn't use it. It's answering the spam inquirey that'll cause the problems.

Blue/white smoke is oil, black/grey smoke is unburnt fuel... PS... see my previous post... -
Every time I list a few things on CL I get spam replies within a few hours inquiring about whether it's still available or what's the condition. If you answer the email...which comes from CL and you're email address is protected... they have your email address and will broadcast it. So I just had an idea. I also have a hotmail address that I hardly ever use, and I copied their email to it and respond. If I get a couple of live responses I just start forwarding them to the other spamer. If enough of us do this we could drive them nutz.... Hey it's tough finding something to do when you're semi-retired and the economy is in the tank..... :rotf:

Removing carbs question
Condor replied to jasonm.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep, cables are still attached to the junction. I pop the bodies out of the manifolds and slide the assembly out the left side... carefully.... Then detach the cables. I've done it this way about 6-7 times so far, so I don't think it's luck.. But you never can tell.... :confused07: -
Those vents in front of your shins get air from vents on either side of the upper fairing. I guess if somethings better than nothing, they're OK. Otherwise that lower leg is just cosmetic. Some folks will remove them, and I think you'd get better cooling without them. On the air dam I think it blocks air flow to the lower part of the engine, and actually they were an accessory in the early 83-85 years. They didn't become standard until 86-93. So it's up to you as to whether you want to use one or not....

That stuff is like a teflon tape.... not Loc-Tite..... Don't think anybody needs to tell them anything...........

Removing carbs question
Condor replied to jasonm.'s topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I generally pull the carbs with the cables still attached, then disconnect them. I also connect the cables before installing. For the life of me I can't figure out how anyone can get that lug end and cable in the cam when they're already on..... -

Something ain't right... Venture V4's don't smoke when running. Could be anything from an overfull crank to worn rings or valve guides.... -
And why would you want to make the Speed Bleeder so it can't be loosened?? That's how it operates....just like a regular bleeder, but with one way flow. Oh well... I'd suggest not doing it to the new one.

Since you weren't real clear on where it leaked.... then yeah under the banjo.... But if it's leaking on the cup side, it's either a bad cup or a scared barrel....

Gary, Some thoughts... If the crystal isn't leaking then the 2 part isn't the problem. Usually the proper mix of epoxy:hardner is 5:1 for a good cure. The slag that was pressed out when you seated the crystal probably didn't harden completely before adding the synthetic fluid. The only thing that would allow leaking at the back of the master is a weak crush washer. The doubled up spring in the clutch in the clutch might have caused a marginal crush to fail from the extra pressure.

Ya did good Herb.....

I don't understand?? Why couldn't you have just used an Easy-Out to remove the broken Speed Bleeder?? Never heard of a speed bleeder breaking before, but I guess if enough torque is applied anything will break.

Didn't know HB carried it... Liquid is what I meant when refering to brushing. Gonna have to check out the price at HB.... Thanks for the heads up.

I've used the spray on 1stGen manifolds and the cracks disappear, but that's off the bike. Since I'm not really enthusiastic about removing the carb's on the '99 I'm thinking brush on with a long small artist's brush. Getting to as much as possible. I find PDip in the Home Depot paint dept. A spray can lasts forever....

Seeing your story about a trailer got me to at least sympathize with you. My trailer saga goes on for much longer. Back in Dec '08 I bought a 2001 6x12 enclosed trailer in an auction for $1000 bucks. Felt real smug about the 'buy'. I'm still waiting for the title. One and a half years and I've heard more excuses than .... than.... ?? Oh well... a lot. I know the auctioneers, and to make matters worse the owner passed away about 6 months ago, and his wife is now chief cook and bottle washer of the whole operation. I'm a pretty patient guy, but lately I feel I've made it clear that I'm tired of excuses. We'll see what happens and if nothing before the next scheduled auction.... and it's the same ol' same ol', I'll give the local TV station a call.
