  1. i thought rivco made one...
  2. i have a 1975 honda 550f, in mint condition...has original seat no tears, original exhaust,no rust ...engine is immaculate....no tank rust......anyway, yes, you should turn off the petcock when leaving the bike and here's why.....the only thing stopping the fuel from entering the carbs are the pintle valves in the carb bowls......with the tank higher than the carbs, that is a constant pressure on these valves, which can cause fuel to seep past these seals, especially if the tank is full ( which should be as much as possible to prevent rusting )...if the bowls fill up, fuel can then run down the throat of the carbs, to the valves, and enter the combustion chamber.....if you notice, the carbs have a slight angle toward the cylinder head......so, if you store your bike like i do....or don't ride it much.....petcock should be off check out hondarestoration.com......cms is not the only one out there ( used them and they are good) also have bettencourt up in the northeast, david silver spares in england, telemacular sports ,Ca. i think.......i have the sunrise orange.....
  3. i have the xl, purchased in march 08,......i like the vent....along with what everyone else says, it also seems to reduce turbulence a little.......wished i would've gotten the xxl.....alan, wanna trade?
  4. looked for winter riding gloves about 4 yrs ago...did research, internet searches etc....bought a pair that were highly rated by a bike magazine for 39.95.....fingers got cold after an hour at about 45 degrees.....then bought the highly touted harley winter gloves....same cold fingers.....so...get the heated gloves and be done with it.....i use the heated liners
  5. this isn't gonna solve your prob. but my 07 with 5700 miles appears to do the same thing when cold....in neutral....give it gas and it hesitates.....just a little.....if the choke is off.....in gear seems to be fine........after warming up, not as noticeable.....i haven't changed plugs, synched carbs etc.......38 to 39 mpg......just cold natured maybe?
  6. everyone mentions wear, smoothness, quietness, wet traction, handling etc. when talking about tires, but no one mentions the load rating...which is the first thing i consider, especially with a 800+ pound bike with a pax and bags......so....what is the rating for avons as compared to the 404...i know the E3 is rated high.....and, if my memory serves me , the metzlers aren't rated as high as dunlops......maybe that's why they fail?
  7. are your tire pressures correct

    Bad boy horn

i've used my stebel a couple of times in the last few weeks including last evening.......boy, do they jerk their car back into their lane , and quick.!
  11. barons shows nothing......what is a 2000mm.....my guess is it isn't a venture........when i got my 07, the first thing i wanted to do was chrome the fins....found a pic of someone who chromed his, it looked ok, except that, and he stated, that there was a yellowish tint on the inside.....i figured it was just a bad chrome job......searched all over and no one offered any as an aftermarket ...so i let it go........recently approached a chroming facility where i live ,about re-doing my trunk rack and also my fins......he didn't hesitate to say that the fins wouldn't come out 100% and said exactly what i found out before, that there would be a slight yellow tint on the inside.....this is no fly-by-night shop,.........i didn't ask him why, i should have......so, i repeat the question.....why wont the chrome take on the inside......
  12. can anyone explain why you can't chrome the fins on a 2nd gen.......they tell me that the chroming won't get all the way in and will have a yellow tint on the inside.......i was told that's why you don't see any aftermarket chrome fins...
  13. since the manual doesn't differentiate between synthetic or dino....you would still, technically, be " voiding " the warranty by exceeding the 3,000 miles no matter what you use........ the advantage with synthetic is that it has a higher temp breakdown point , it maintains it's viscosity rating longer than dino oil......HOWEVER, it gets just as dirty as dino oil over equal amounts of mileage or time.......so....you could extend the interval, but i would still change the filter........ there are tons of articles on oil and tons of opinions.........i just tried to keep this response short..personally, i don't use synthetic in my water cooled venture...i did in my air cooled harley.
  14. 07 venture, mostly two up riding, 70-75 mph, ...38-39 mpg..........got 42 mpg on a group ride that avg. about 55 mph.........the bike is top heavy, once you start moving it is ok....but, you need to remember this when coming to a stop, and when manuvering the bike around with your feet
  15. i don't know much about the yamaha rack.....i also have the one from whitney.......i've had it for 5 months.....i used large rubber and metal washers on the underside of the trunk to give support and i hope that prevents cracking.........i already have small rust spots on two joints and chrome has worn off some of the tubes , showing the nickel underneath, i mounted a bag on the rack for a trip i took out west and i guess that accelerated the wear in addition to the chrome being very thin....as a matter of fact i just took my bike to a chroming facility to see about getting the rack re-done and my fins done.....can't do the fins ( and have them look good ) and $110 to re-do the rack..said the rack was a flash chrome job....this was not a local backyard chroming place , it is a well kept, professional place...the fact that your yamaha rack has problems makes me feel better about buying the cheaper rack........
  16. i've never run michelins so i can't debate that...i live in the east, check pressures and ride a lot of two up.....i ran dunlops on my electra glide , 402's and one e3...i got 11,000 on the 402's and 13,000 on the e3...which was in the range of 8,000 to 14,000 reported by 99.9% of the readers on harley tech.......except for the elect two who swore they got 22,000 and 24,000 .......i don't know what my 07 venture will get but i bet it's in the norm of what the vast majority report here......i don't care what anyone claims, anyone can claim anything on the internet...but the same tire, run on the same bike, operated the same way...will not!.....get mileage variances of almost 100% !....no...way...
  17. my stock 07 venture falls right in line with yours...except the best i've ever gotten was 42 mpg in a group ride...........50 mpg at 75 mph ?....i don't believe it....that's like the 20,000 mile rear tire mileage ....righhhhht!
  18. harley davidson has one.....i use it
  19. all the roads around rapid city and sturgis are known for riding........needles hwy., the wild life loop through custer state park.hwys 16, 16a, 385, etc. crazy horse monument, badlands, the wall, deadwood......do some research and you'll find out where to ride..

    trip

i'm loading my bike (07 venture) in the back of my truck and heading out to albuquerque with my girlfriend from pa on may 8...then unloading the bike and riding to roswell, carlsbad, white sands, tombstone, up the coronado trail, pie town, and back.........anyone from those areas that can name out of the way places to eat at and see,let me know........i never push on these trips so i never know where we'll be staying or eating.......
  21. since we're talking about dropping bikes, i've never seen or read anywhere that talks about what your passenger can do when the bike goes over.....should they hold on and lean opposite the fall, jump off....what......i'd like to instruct my girlfriend as to what she should do.......
  22. we have lost in this country what it took to make it the great country it once was...self determination, strong work ethic, and self responsibility...the result is what you see now.......i didn't read all the posts here, but i know they are all talking about the same thing..greed, laziness, and free handout's......corp.in america have long ago given up doing what is right for the usa, it's only the survival of the co. that's important........we should unplug the stock market and return to providing a product or a service at a fair profit..... if half the money collected in taxes went to half of what it is supposed to be for, we could reduce taxes by half..... we send billions of dollars in foreign aid to countries that spit in our faces we re-built the world twice, but that ethic is gone and certainly not appreciated we should own iraq and iran......and quite playing footsie with 'em the generation that went through the great depression, who knew how to work, save, and developed character, honesty, and integrity...is gone..... i've got two sons who recently married, one has a new baby.......i worry about 'em. i worry about their family..there is no loyalty in companies, to or from the employees, and certainly there is no loyalty to the USA.......
  23. got it.........turns out , the instructions were wrong......there's an orange power lead that the instructions say should be connected to a 12v power source.....the diagram leads you to believe that should be the battery......nope, it needs to be connected to a switched power source.........so, it's connected to the tailight.........everything works so if anyone else installs this module, connect the orange power lead to a 12v switched source also, if someone wants to take the time, by using yamaha connector pins, you can make this a "plug in " installation...... model is the "xp"........i didn't use the blinker module thanks for everyone's input and this stebel horn is LOUD !
  24. just installed the clearview xl on my venture......one thing about the clearview is that you can use rain-x on it.....you can't on any other's
  25. so, the harness connection that i'm using is the correct one.............i should add that i also added the stebel horn using the bracket sold on this sight.......yes i used the relay ..........i mounted the neg. battery cable and the neg horn. wire on top of this bracket and then bolted it down.........is it possible that is my problem...not getting a good ground there......
