  1. i could maybe believe that a RC airplane could be saved like that....the power to weight ratio may allow it..........but controlling the aircraft with one wing missing, i can't buy it....there isn't enough lift from the body, how would you counteract the torque produced by the engine that would obviously be running at max power...you can't roll an airplane level with only one wing....the cg of the aircraft isn't being supported....there isn't anywhere near enough rudder to acquire and hold the nose up while trying to fly horizontal.............yes, stunt planes do it, but they enter a knife edge manuever by rolling into it from a level attitude and high speed...this enables the rudder to put the nose up, let the body produce some lift and the momentum and power carries the plane through the stunt, and you use your wings to keep the airplane stable while performing this stunt..........
  2. diesel is just a heavier grade of refined crude oil than kerosene....there are different grade of kerosene also
  3. i'm no expert....but different grades of kerosene are "heavier" than others..they go through different stages of "cracking".....have more "contaminants"....i don't know if that's the correct word to use.....it's like why i can't use motor oil in my home furnace...it isn't designed for it...nozzle design, pump pressures. etc. are designed for specific oil " weights "....the wick heaters have to use a lighter oil.............the torpedoes or other heaters may be able to use the heavier kerosene......whatever the instructions say most people don't know that the crude oil that comes out of the ground isn't all the same......it also can be heavier, dirtier, takes more to refine........the stock market always gives the price, and says," for light, sweet crude"...ever wonder why they say that...thats because that's the best that comes out of the ground......
  4. if the instructions say no ,then no..........i did try kerosene in my " kerosun" heater.the round ones that stand up , no fan......it clogs the wick.....you have to use k1 in those......the torpedoes,..i think you can use plain kerosene.....but i repeat, if the instuctions say no or only..that's what you better use.........
  5. i did put threaded mounts in my garage floor.....and i just screw shorter bolts in the holes when i'm not using it......
  6. also..... i wouldn't want to go west to east ...heading down the switch backs...i'd rather go up.......
  7. teri n erv we did the entire burr trail from the bullfrog marina , northwest to boulder , utah.....about 80 miles........about 20 of it is hard packed dirt which also includes the climb up the pocket fold.......now if you like adventure, and attempting new experiences, then this is for you.......if your the type of person who analyzes ( sic? ) everything that could go wrong and then worries about it, then don't do it.....here's what we did my girlfriend and i were on one of our trips out west on my 03 electra glide standard. no trailer, so we were fully loaded. i had done as much research as i could about this trail and was as prepared as i could be.............the section of the trail ( not the entire 20 miles ) that becomes hardpacked and stoney before you start the climb up also turned out to be very washboard.....so.....our speed was about 3 - 5 mph.....it took us about 2 hrs to travel this section.....there was a guy on a goldwing behind us who initially had turned around because of the washboard but because i said i was still gonna go, he changed his mind.....so... i don't know how a trailer would be.....that was the worst of it the road was completely dry,.......no way would i try this after any rain. when we reached our destination that evening....i examined my tires and found several small cuts in the tread blocks...not deep enough to puncture the tire, but my tires were new.......so.......i wouldn't ride this trail on worn tires....also,my tires were tube tires and i wouldn't recommend and i wouldn't do it on that type of tire again....only tubeless tires which can be plugged in an emergency. i weigh about 190 and my girlfriend is about 130......point is, i don't know about you but , well, lets just say i'm glad my bike wasn't carring anymore weight. the trail is AWSOME...the climp up the switchback is breathtaking and the view from up there is also...and was an adreneline rush....it becomes a nice easy ride from there...... do your own research on this trail and make your own decision...everyone has their own levels of what they are comfortable with....there is no right or wrong.....you asked if you could do it...well, i did it.... so anyone can do it.... i will never forget it......and hope to go back some day........
  8. yes, we rode that a few years ago on my electra glide ! i recognize the mesa !.......it happened by accident as my map showed it was paved.......the tricky part was passing the road grader that was moving up in front of us........it wasn't too bad as it was hard packed dirt , mostly.....we took a picture of the mesa , made an 8 by 10 and framed it.........it was great!..........if you really want a challenge.......ride the Burr trail in the escalante mts.........not for the faint of heart........but the view is unbelievable.......
  9. yes, i had problems exactly like yours on my 07...........they replaced the head control, same problem.........greased the connectors in the fairing and used tie wraps to hold them together..........problem hasn't re-occured.......
  10. 1970 honda cl-100, red.....i thought i was king of the world......$200

i'm gonna address some of ya'lls comments.....i've ridden with this group before......the ride captain is the vp...the guy who passed me his his good friend and the sarg.-at-arms....both are prison guards.....and grew up in this area.....i did not grow up here......the ride cap. likes to enter the hwys. and get on it on his 1800 roadstar.....which leaves the group behind....the pre-ride discussion is a stagger.....we all know the area and the stop sign wasn't new......i'm trying to give this group some leeway, as i've ridden with a hog chapter until my harley engine broke......i'm 55, ain't afraid of anyone...but they have my 45 bucks for chapter patches ..........the question was, do i confront this guy or let it go......would you.....i've never quit anything unless it's on my own terms...........yep, i'm mad........

took a ride with a yamaha star chapter this past sat....group is basically new, formed in may.....there were about 12 bikes, i was #4.....got on the on ramp to merge onto an interstate. this ramp has a stop sign because of construction.....i approached the sign , and accelerated away...girlfriend on the back.....the rider behind me on a valkrie, blows past me.......i was pissed....now, do i say something to this guy ...i don't know the exact rules of group riding, but this can't be right........yes or no.....
  13. my 77 monte with the 305 started making a knocking sound ....thought it was a rod but didn't quite act like it....when the motor went, and i pulled the timing cover, i could see where the chain was hitting the cover and almost no teeth ( nylon ) on the cam sprocket....143,000 miles with 3000 mile oil changes.....lesson learned
  14. yep..time for some work
  15. do yourself a favor and get heated riding gear....or keep spending money for the " these gloves are the best " statements........i bought gloves that were highy rated by a motorcyle magazine,.... one hour at 50 degrees and my fingers were done.....got silk liners... same thing....bought windproof covers...lasted a little longer.....bought highly touted harley gloves ( riding electra-glide at that time ) same thing....tried ski mittens...hands were warmer but made it hard to use controls.......it's your money
  16. and get the park pass.......with the time you have ...there are other parks to see
  17. i've been to the south and north rims...yellowstone...and just about every place in between in the last 4 yrs.....i can say that the southern rim was fine in late may..but was chilly ( 50 degrees ) in the mornings..will be plenty warm by 10 am.....yellowstone was great in middle august...with also some cool mornings.....but, do i need to say that no one can predict the weather. you have to have riding gear to fit all conditions...( like snow in the mountains in june )....to me late spring is good for southern routes....august for northern routes... more traffic in the vacation months ( june,july,august)...wasn't too bad for us in august at yellowstone we don't camp, nothing worse than riding all day and then having to deal with pitching camp in a rainstorm, or too hot or too cold....then you have to carry your gear and pack and un-packl...you must be pulling a trailer so that works...if not, where do you carry everything...we have had great luck with $40 hotels in little towns...nothing like that hot shower and bed......personal choice however... 3-4 weeks is plenty of time...you will have a great time.....
  18. i check mine about 2-3 weeks....before a day trip or more.....never had more than may be 2 psi lost.......i do check tires when i get a new bike home and..dunlop 404's aren't junk
  19. he might be...that's why it's hard to help people on a computer...... i have to make a lot of assumptions and we know how that word is spelled..........if it is his tps, then the same explanations " basically " apply.........which brings up the price.question.....a tps is normally not that expensive..........a throttle body is......maybe he's pricing throttle bodys.........most tps's are mounted externally to the throttle body, and are replaceble.......... so...is it your tps or maf...........
  20. i should probably ask you what the trouble code number is..............and there could be two codes stored now.....one that says the maf is sending the wrong voltage and/or one that says no voltage, no signal...........you may have to plug the maf back in and read that code
  21. ok, the mass airflow sensor doesn't open or close..that's what your throttle body does....the maf is mounted in front of the throttle body.....the maf does exactly what its name is , it measures the amount of air flowing thru it into the throttle body......the computer uses this measurement, plus other sensors to vary the air/fuel ratio for maximum efficiency, emissions and drivability....you don't have to have the maf connected......you don't have to have the 02 sensor connected...you could probably disconnect all your sensors and the car will still run and, because it's a '93 with first year OBD , it'll probably run fine.........why does it run worse with the maf connected? because it is sending a FALSE signal. that's different than NO signal....the false signal read by the computer means the computer is setting an air/fuel ratio that is incompatible with the driving conditions....so, it could be idling bad, or missing, or hesitating....you disconnect the maf...now it's sending no signal, the computer reverts to a set air/fuel ratio, and the car runs fine.......this is one way to trouble shoot a computer car....if you disconnect the alleged sensor, and the car runs better...then that sensor is probably bad...... does this help...........
  22. i'm gonna answer your question......when you disconnect the maf...the computer tells itself to run in open mode...this means the computer reverts to a set air/fuel ratio and is not controlled by the computer anymore.....basically it is a fail safe mode...designed to keep the car running....and isn't using the 02 sensor to control fuel mixture....fuel mileage will suffer a little and your converter won't like it....when the check engine light is off, your car is running in closed loop mode where the computer uses sensors to control mixture, timing etc........i would not recommend buying a used maf.....but it's your money......also, 1993 is first generation OBD and not as sensitive as 1996 to present OBD2.......i tried to keep this short, if you need more info , i'll try to answer
  23. i have an 07 venture now....had an 03 electra glide for 4 yrs......put 35,000 on it before the motor went....everything mentioned above is true.....the harley is lighter and easier to handle when your using your feet....i miss that harley sound....venture seat is better, 40 more horses, smoother, 5year unlimited mileage warranty, can't beat that.....more bike for the money.....i'll keep the venture
  24. i also have to smile when i know for a fact that putting synthetics in when you've been running dino oil and someone says that it will not leak.......and it does......... three cases in point.........1975 honda 550f...notorious for head gasket seepage.......i found a beauty in 1995 with 8500 miles on it....and no seepage....rode it a little and about 2 yrs after buying it ..decided to put syn. in it..mobile one .....noticed after a few months, really leaking from the head gasket...replaced it with dino and now im not wiping oil off of the cylinders. 1987 monte carlo ss, purchased in 1999, 91,000 miles and one of the selling points was the fact that there was NO, absolutely none, leaks, seepage or signs of any oil on the bottom of the engine....ran it for a couple of years...decided to put syn. in it ..6 months later, i had leaks 2002 chevy camaro, 15,000 miles, purchased brand new, always run with mobile 1, no leaks... now you ( and i guess amsoil, sounds like you're a dealer)..claim that its because of the detergents in syn. well there's detergent in dino oil also , so why didn't i get leaks with those oils.....now, hears what i've heard and it's not from a biased oil supplier. it comes from legit articles i've read in many car magazines ( hot rod, mechanics illustrated, super chevy etc. ) and that is.... one, the syn molecules are of uniform size and are able to move through microscopic "gaps" easier.......two, older gaskets normally swell in contact with regular oil, synthetic, because of its structure, causes less ,if no swelling........newer cars and newer gaskets reduce that effect initially, years ago, i didn't believe the rumors........i do now because it happened, and i've read other stories..........i would not recommend putting synthetic oil in an older, higher mileage engine as you will probably develope leaks i will agree that synthetics may do a better job of cleaning up sludge around gaskets and that may add to the leaking...........
  25. agreed, if the oil has an energy conserving and/or "for gasoline engines" symbol on it...i wouldn't use it in a motorcycle ........ditto for synthetics in older/ high mileage engines that weren't running synthetics ( ask me how i know ).............also, they're taking zinc out of oils for gasoline engines ,which is needed longevity for bearings, especially important for motorcycles......so, use an oil rated for diesel engines which covers all these bases...which rotella is...i believe a diesel rating is designated c-4......
