  1. Buddy, Sorry about your wreck just thank GOD you're ok!! My wife did the same thing you did earlier this year but was injured near as badly. On August 4th, I just about totalled my 07 Venture and I wasn't hurt very bad either. I thought this was a wakeup call and pondered if I should give a a life of riding at 59 years of age. As I got back on the bike, I was a small bit tentative but it went away rather quickly. I do watch others more closely now but I'll ride as long as I can. I won't be pulling a trailer behind me any more though. Prayers for you for a quick recovery and you'll be fine. Eddie
  2. Some of the dealers around here will finance a bike for you even if you don't buy theirs. Yes , they'll charge a little but you will still have the ride you want. Also, I've bought a lot of things and stuff, including motorcycles on credit and paid them off just fine. That's the only way some people can have things and enjoy them. Eddie
  3. After my accident, I've noticed a sometimes annoying squeaking in what sounds to be coming from the rear shock on my 07 Venture. Is this a common ailment or is it something serious where I shouldn't ride the bike. The bike handles like it's on rails so I haven't noticed any difference in that area. TIA, Eddie
  4. There's no better bike than the goldwing and I've had about 7 of them in the last 10 years. I put 70,000 miles on my 2002 Goldwing and while it was a great bike, I wanted a bike that looked like a bike. Also, the Venture is a lot more comfortable on a longer ride. It's not as peppy or smoothe but it has the looks. I'd like to see the venture with abs and reverse. Eddie
  5. I'm taking your advice and not worrying about it because it runs like a scalded dog and handles like it's on rails. Eddie
  6. I got on my 2007 RSV this AM to come to work and notice when the forks compressed there was a squeak. Sounds kind of wierd. any thoughts? Eddie
  7. My brakes just got changed at 14000 miles and the inside pad was completely gone and the rotor had ground into the area where the pad used to be. The outside pad was 3/4 still there and I don't use the rear brake a lot. My local mechanic says that's probably what caused my bike to lock up the back brake and slide thus causing me to go down about 6 weeks ago. I now have the bike back and it looks great and runs great. I will, however, change the brakes every time I change a rear tire from now on. Good luck, Eddie
  8. Hey guys, Just an update. I now have all the new parts on my bike. The mechanic showed me the back brakes and the inner side of them was "metal to metal!" Now wonder it didn't stop correctly. Probably the reason I went down. Cost over $8000.00 for all the replacements pieces. They even put on a full "Bubs" exhaust system and I really think it's running better. I just rode the bike 160 miles through some tough Kentucky mountain backroads and it did just fine. My brakes on had 14,000 miles so be sure to keep a check on them. I know I will from now on. My bike is just like new and I had a great time on it today. Eddie Flinchum Winchester, Ky.
  9. Josh, I've pulled trailers for the last 10 years in the Eastern US and Canada without ill effects until about a month ago. I did have an accident due to hard braking but the trailer did give me the final bump that I think caused me to go down a little sooner. I think I would've gone down anyway. Just be careful and pull to your hearts content. Eddie:)
  10. Hey guys, I just got my 2007 back from the shop having some new plastic put on it because of my recent accident. It looks great and runs even better but I'm thinking about selling it and getting a jeep. 2007 Yamaha Venture(midnight and raven) with a few extras including new bub's exhaust from the engine all the way back. It has 14,000 miles. I also have a Cyclemate Zephyr trailer that I bought about 4 months ago and it's been pulled about 7-800 miles and it's the top of the line for Cyclemate. It's black gel coat and has a spoiler with bumper plus pad on front of trailer. If I sell it I want to sell it all together as a unit. It looks great!!! Eddie Flinchum 1-859-749-0181
  11. I'm supposed to be getting my bike back today or tomorrow from all the repairs as a result of my accident 3 weeks ago. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for as I take it for it's first ride. To say the least, I'm a little anxious about it. TIA, Eddie:clap2:
  12. I have a friend that had an LT. It was a beautiful bike. The GL1800 is better in all areas but maybe the looks and eye appeal is a lot. He had to travel at least 100 miles anytime he needed attention to the bike or general service. The price was definitely higher but he liked the idea of a BMW. It's all in what makes you grin. Eddie:thumbsup:

    Trailers Push You

Yeah, just a little sore in a lot of places. The trailer I pull is a Cyclemate Zephyr and it is about 200# empty, so it's a fairly large trailer. I will pull it again and I'll just try to be as safe as I can. That's all any of us can do. Eddie

    Trailers Push You

Last Monday I wrecked in Pineville, Ky. There was a multiple car crash in front of me and I locked the breaks and yes I used the front also. I believe the trailer was pushing me just enough to add to my going down. I've done this before on wings in the past and they didn't lockup and I didn't lay the bike down. Needless to say, I'll probably be getting back on a wing even though I love the Venture much more. Eddie
  15. Hey guys, Thanks for all the positive comments and I fully plan on riding my Venture again. They just called and it'll take $7,100 dollars to fix the bike and the frame isn't bent so I should have it in a month or so. I sure miss seeing the beast in my garage. Thanks again and I hope to make it to some of your "meet and eat" get-together's" before long. Eddie
  16. I did have some front end damage to the bike because it hit another bike that was sitting still. I'll find out today what the extent of the damage is from the shop and the adjuster. I don't think it'll be totaled but the shop manager says it could go either way, depending on how the frame looks. If it's not totaled, I'll be out of a ride for quite a while while the repairs are going on. I'll check into the brake fix you've referred to and maybe I can get it done with my limited mechanical abilities. Thanks to everyone for your kind responses. Eddie:fingers-crossed-emo
  17. I'm sorry to report I crashed my 2007 RSV on Monday in Pineville, Ky. Myself and 5 of my buddies were returning home fm a 4 day(1500 mile) trip and was within 2 hours of home when it happened. A lady crossed 2 southbound lanes to enter the norhbound lane we were in and caused 4 automobiles and 2 bikes to crash. She didn't even get a scratch on her vehicle. I'm so mad I could spit. She was cited for "driver inattention and no proof of insurance. My bike is in the shop and I'll find out in a couple days if it was totalled or not. My buddies bike, which my bike hit, is a ultra classic and probably sustained 2000 dollars damage. I don't have any broken bones due to wearing all my gear. My helmet saved my life and my boots and armored jacket kept me relatively free fm broken bones and very little road rash. I've been off work for 2 days because I'm so sore, even in places I didn't know I had, ha ha. I have to tell you my brakes "locked-up" and I skidded which is why I went down. I had no option but to hit the brakes hard. Yamaha needs to fix these brakes and they'd have an even greater bike. I don't know if I'll continue riding this bike because if my wife had been with me she would've become a projectile. In closing, I just want to remind you to wear your gear, even if it is hot and be careful. There's a lot of stupid people out there and stupid does hurt!!! You guys are great!! Eddie Flinchum--Winchester, KY.
  18. Hey guys, 5 of my buddies on their Harley's and Wings and me on my RSV are going to Raleigh NC tomorrow. Saturday morning we're going to Carolina Beach and hopefully eat some good fish for lunch. Can someone give me a good suggestion as where to eat. None of us have ever been there before Saturday. Thanks in Advance, Eddie Flinchum:puzzled:
  19. I think I'm free that weekend and I live in Winchester so it sounds good to me. I'll have to check and see if I'm committed to anything with our Goldwing Chapter, even though I ride an 07 Venture. Keep us posted on how it develops. Eddie
  20. I'm not that computer literate but I don't see how to post on the classifieds. My wife has a 750 virago that we're considering selling or trading to a pull behind pop-up. Any help would be appreciated. TIA, Eddie:puzzled:
  21. I didn't notice any difference at all with or without. I think the bike sounds a lot better and maybe it's in my head but I think it runs a little stronger. Go for them, you love them. My bike doesn't sound like it's running under water anymore. Eddie
  22. Have a safe trip and I'm located in Winchester, Ky. It's on the east side of Lexington on I-64 which you'll be on while headed to Charleston where you'll get on I-77, I suppose. I'll be in and out of the house so if you need anything call me: 1-859-749-0181. Eddie
  23. A friend of my seems to think his new Ultra with new exhaust will hang with my Venture. I'm not the racing type, especially with friends but I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later. We've both got a lot of years riding experience. What can I expect the outcome to be, besides still being best friends. Eddie
  24. Several of my buddies on Harley's and myself are coming to Raleigh for the weekend next weekend and I was wondering if anyone that lives in the Raleigh area close to Cary can give me some advice on hotels or motels in the area. Eddie
