  1. There seems to be as lot of motorcycle accidents this year in our local area. All of the serious injuries and deaths have been head injuries and none of them were wearing helmets. I know they're hot in the summer but my wife and I wear Full face helmets, textile jackets with armor, gloves and over the ankle boots and hope we don't need them too often. Eddie
  2. I bought one of these for my 07 Venture and I'm pulling a Cyclemate Zephyr with absolutely no problems. You should probably get his stinger with the hitch because it's a good fit. You can hardly see it without the stinger in and the hitch is very simple to install. My trailor came with a wiring harness so I didn't have to buy any sort of after market stuff. If you're not good at wiring stuff, just take it to you local U-haul dealer and let them put it in for you. Actually, it's not too difficult. Eddie Flinchum:sun1:
  3. We have 3 couples planning a vacation through the Northeast in August starting at Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. Problem is: 2 of the guys will be "carrying handguns" and have ccw license. Is there any place we can check these in on the American side until we get back fm Canada? We could leave them home but we really don't want to. I'd appreciate any help on this besides the obvious of leaving them home. Eddie Flinchum--Central Kentucky
  4. Tourmaster for $55.00 a pair. They're lightweight nylon type material that's waterproof. I've had 5 sets of Frogg Toggs and never again. The pants always start leaking in the crotch and I've always been careful putting them on. I know some people love them and they are cooler than some of the rainsuits. Look on the Honda Direct line webb site. Eddie
  5. I would also vote for Kentucky. I live in central Kentucky and would love to lead some rides through the gorges and curves and twisties, especially in Eastern Ky., and we have a ton of them. Anytime any of you guys and gals come through this area, give me a shout and I'll take you on a ride or two, if I'm not working. Eddie PS I've just been a member for less than a year and haven't made any of the rallies but hope to before too long.
  6. I've got the Cyclemate Zephyr and love it. Pulls great and holds a lot!!! I've never used a swivel hitch and have never had a trailer leaning as far as I know and that's going through back roads in Kentucky and West Virginia. I'm sure the swivel has got to help a little and I might look into it. Eddie

    I Basket

Had mine replaced on the 07 about 2 weeks ago and if there's a difference I can't hear it. Still whines like crazy, just with a newer basket????? Eddie
  8. Lately I've had a little trouble closing the lid on my trunk on my 07 Venture. This morning it was really difficult. Doesn't seem to want to latch. It was dark when I rode to work so I couldn't tell what was going on. I know nothing was between the hook and the latch. I'd appriciate any suggestions. TIA, Eddie:confused24:
  9. Thanks everyone for the input. I know everyone has their own preferences and maybe the Fram isn't all that great. Next oil change, I think I'll change to one of your suggestions or go back to the Yamaha filter. That has to be a good one, huh? Eddie
  10. Please inform me why their junk because I've used them for about 42 years, thereabouts, or my entire adult life and have never had a problem. Have you had one to fail? I certainly don't want something inferior on my bike. I didn't think there was that much difference between the filters besides the prices?? Eddie:puzzled:
  11. Is Fram #PH6017A the right filter. I've always had good luck with them, especially as often as I change oil. TIA, Eddie
  12. I just want everyone to know what nice folks "Yamahamer"(Sabrina and Mark) are to a total stranger. Within a couple days after posting about needing some parts for my wife's bike after her wreck, I received a part fm "Yamahamer." If I can ever be of any assistance to anyone on this board, let me know. Again, thanks "Yamahamer" for going out of your way to help a fellow rider!!!! Eddie and Cathy Flinchum Winchester, Ky.
  13. Hey guys, My dealer changed the basket yesterday and if there's any improvement, I can't tell it. The tech told me the one he put in looks just like the one he took out, even though Yamaha told him would help. Oh well, guess I'll have to live with it until I see something I like more than the Venture. Eddie
  14. I had mine installed on my 07 at the dealer about 2 months ago for $399.00 and I love them. Does the K/N air filter make any difference in the way the Venture runs?
  15. I just rode my Venture home from the dealer after the clutch basket exchange on the gears. All I can say is I "think" I can hear a small difference and it might just be in my head because I can definitely still hear the whine and chirping. It was a warranty repair and the basket that went in looked exactly like the one that came out. Even the mechanic couldn't tell the difference. I think it's a sound I'll have to live with until I trade it to a wing or a newer version of the Venture without the whine. Eddie
  16. Actually it's a 94 Virago 750 cc. Was in great shape and will be again. I just got back from picking up a windshield for it. It will possibly need turn signals on right side. The brake master cylinder is ground down on the edge, but not leaking but looks bad. The end of the exhaust on the right side is scraped and bent a little, not too bad. The handle bars dont' line up with the front tire but they're not bent. I think I can brace it and yank it back into alignment. This was caused by loose gravel that had washed down a hill at the edge of the road were turning off of and she didn't see it until she was sliding. I'm thankful she wasn't going fast and she had on all the right gear!! Thanks for all your help and advice. I guess she'll have to ride with me for a while on the 07 Venture!! I'll have a backseat driver, I guess. Eddie
  17. My wife wrecked her 95 Yamaha Virago last Thursday and I need to find someplace where I can get some parts. It didn't hurt the bike too badly but it does need a few little parts. She was wearing all her gear so she's sore with no broken bones or road rash. TIA, Eddie
  18. Dennis,

Sounds like you had a great trip. I'm located in Winchester and come through Nicholasville a lot on my way to Danville, where my wife is from. I hope to retire in a year or two and we want to go and do the same trip you did so I might be giving you a ring and pick your brain.

By the way, I bought the same bike you have last September and I love it. The blue/black combination is nice.

  19. The tech at our dealer that's gonna be working on my bike says he has some special grease he's gonna grease the spindles with and whatever else needs it. I don't really know what "special grease" is other than to make me feel better about this Venture...
  20. The dealer is supposed to have been greasing the spindles. I'm not standing there watching so I just hope and pray that's what they did. After reading you guys comments, it's making me a little hesitant for any long range travelling. Eddie
  21. In Kentucky you don't have to wear a helmet and I also believe it's just a matter of time till you wish you did wear one. Most of the people I ride with wear them and all the accidents we've seen did a number on the helmets. Thankfully, there have been no fatalities for the ones that wear helmets. My brother and I argue all the time because he doesn't wear one and I don't want to lose him at some later time due to him not wanting people to tell him what to do. It's all about choice, but I think I'm too valuable to my family and friends to not wear the helmet. No matter how you hit the ground, fast or slow, you head will always hit the pavement or near always..... Eddie
  22. Yeah, I know. I get comments like turn up the radio. If it weren't for my bub's exhaust, it'd be driving me crazy!! Let me know what they try and if it works. Eddie 1-859-749-0181
  23. Besides the usual chirping on my 07 venture, I'm noticing more of a whine coming from the side of the bike and towards the rear. If I turn the radio up the whine is drowned a bit but it's very annoying and making me not enjoy the ride as much. I know some have mentioned the basket fix and my dealer says they want to go through the rear end, whatever that means. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I just went over 10,000 miles on the odometer. Otherwise, I love the bike!!! Eddie
  24. Would any of you guys that are good with tools be willing to build one for someone else?? Eddie
  25. Just wondering if anyone is using a rack in their receiver hitch. Where did you get it and how do you like it? I'm not too sure about the one Rivco makes. Eddie
