You can't overcurrent an electrical item, just over voltage it. Most likely it's the solder joints to the board. It happens sometimes with high end LED's and it's pretty common in low end LED's. I saw it alot in trucks. Trucklite and Grote brand were very bright while cheaper "no-name" LED's would be dimmer and actually have LED's "burn-out" across the board. I could smack em with a screwdriver and and watch the LEDs flicker.

AutoZone carries oversized drain plugs that are self tapping. You may have to drill the old threads out of the pan first though. I've repaired a couple of aluminum oil pans like this on big trucks. Can you post a picture of the drain plug? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/accessories/accessoriesShelf.jsp?categoryDisplayName=Oil+and+Fluid+Change&fromType=accessories&fromString=search&parentId=cat30089&filterByKeyWord=oversize+drain+plugs¤tPage=1&navValue=100773&categoryNValue=101311&fromWhere=&subPartId=prod63152&itemId=prod63152&displayName=Oil+Drain+Plug

I just recommended cutting open the filter because usually the filter is on the return side and not the supply side in a hydraulic system.
-
Damn, just how hard did you have to pull to strip out the oil pan? I tighten mine by feel with a 8" 3/8 drive ratchet.
-
Do you still have the old filter? If so, you could take it into any shop that does hydraulic work and have them cut the filter open to check for metal particles.

Just for shiggles, is it possible to swap the pumps or the motors side to side to see if the other side becomes weak? If you can swap the motors and the left side stays weak, its the pump. If you swap the pumps and the left side stays weak, it's the motor. or if they're close enough, you could just swap the lines side to side.

I wonder if there's a way to do a case drain test on the motor and pump. I know in the most of the hydraulics we use, you can pull and plug and check the leakage of a motor and/or pump doing this test.

HD Exhaust for 2007 RSV ?

No, those won't work. Those are for a Softail, not a touring bike. -

You can also buy the brackets right here off the forum. Do a search and you'll find who sells them now or you can make your own brackets. Any slipon to fit any Harley touring bike, Ulta, Electra, RoadKing, RoadGlide will work on the Venture with those adapter brackets. -
It seems to be the opposite way. They turned him down because they were too busy.

The cases are the same, but I think you have have to change out the entire shafts, gears and all, not just 2 or 3 gears. -
Charging a new battery
flb_78 replied to FROG MAN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My intelligent answer is, "I'd do as the instructions say". My real world answer is, "Battery is dry charged, I'd fill it and put it in the bike and go for a ride". But that was before I had my Schumacher Battery Maintainer/Charger. -
Stuck Valve on 2007 Royal Star Venture
flb_78 replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Different formulations of gas. The ethanol in the fuel is alcohol and alcohol will attract water and water and gas mixed together in carbs causes corrosion and gummyness. -
Take the tire off again and set it outside in the sun to heat it up. Clean the bead of the wheel with a wire brush and some kind of solvent until it looks shiny and new.

Stuck Valve on 2007 Royal Star Venture
flb_78 replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'd like to know how many miles are on the bike with the stuck valve. Usually a stuck valve isn't warranty because it's usually a problem with carbon build up inside head. The problem with the needle jets sticking isn't a warranty item either. It's caused by improper storage. If plan on letting a vehicle sit for an amount of time, the carb/carbs should be drained. It's easy enough to do with a motorcycle, just turn the fuel valve to off and run it until it dies. Also, if they freed up the needles and it was taken home and parked with the same fuel in the tank, what did you expect to happen? 1700 miles on a 3 year old bike, no wonder it's having carb problems. -
The Stratoliner would be an excellent touring machine. Add the Corbin fairings and bags to finish it out. The rear wheel can be modified to hold a 240mm tire with no modifications to the frame or swingarm. Here's more information then you'll probably want to know about the Stratoliner. http://www.fxstein.com/blog/index.php?op=Default&postCategoryId=4&blogId=1 http://www.fxstein.com/blog/resserver.php?blogId=1&resource=fxliner.jpg&mode=medium http://www.fxstein.com/blog/resserver.php?blogId=1&resource=fxliner.240rear.jpg&mode=medium http://www.fxstein.com/blog/resserver.php?blogId=1&resource=fxliner.2007.calendar.jpg&mode=medium

You can also take it in the shower with you. Lather up the inside on the helmet with your shampoo, put it on your head and move it around. Rinse it out and let it dry. I'd be afraid the temps inside a dishwasher could damage the styrofoam inside the helmet.

I thought these came in 3's, at least that what everyone told me at work.

Deer whistles are a joke if you ask me. Glad to hear it's just bumps and bruises. Hopefully the insurance will total the bike and write ya a nice big fat check.

Nope, rear shock is a completely sealed unit. Once it goes, it's time to throw it away and buy another. I replaced mine with a factory rebuilt Works Performance shock off eBay for considerably less then a new one and it still has the full warranty!!

I take offense to being called a troll, sir, assuming you know the proper definition of "troll". 73's - N9OHM ex.KB9CQW
