Good question... I have no idea what is behind that, but I wouldn`t think that doing what you did would hurt anything... maybe some one with more knowledge will have an answer to that...and we both can learn something..

Mine looked like watered down coke...probably not that dark, I have no idea of how old it was, as I have no records of any maint. on this bike... I have had it almost 2 yrs, it is a `01 and had 2700 mls on it when I bought it. I don`t think the PO did any maint. on it..

Dave, I havn`t seen any yet that do not rust... if you get new parts they will rust also...I have no Idea what the part numbers are. Some guys have changed to the Fire Sticks, I think they change out the whole thing, so that gets rid of the rusting parts. I am sure that some one who has done this will chime in with more info on it.. Hope all is well with you and yours, have a great day!! -

new bike small problems

check and see if it has a kickstand switch, it may be broke or just bad....that would kill the engine when it is put in gear. get a set of speed bleeders and a hand pump vacume pump for your breaks, and give that a try.. Good luck and post some pics!!
