  1. I had seen a pair of these nice foot pegs with Yamaha on them on ebay. they went for a good bit of money. then late (early) one night while serfing, i logged into ebay & found a new in the wrapper set. it was buy now or make offer. i made an offer. low n behold they were in my mailbox 4 days later. man, was I excited. i got to install them tonight. Please take a look at the universal ones that were on my bike when purchased and the new Yammy ones. i am happy to say i have less than 38 bucks in them with shipping and they look so much nicer than the universal pegs. now if the rain will ease up, i can test ride them!! Dale in La

  3. Have you noticed that there are almost no nice 1st gens on E-bay lately? There used to always be a couple. Maybe Yamaha needs to make a few more.

  7. Has anyone made a single carb manifold for the Yamaha V4?
  8. Anyone know the date the 2010 models will be available. Last year I think it was september 9. I can't find anything from yamaha.
  9. My trip to Indiana June and July, '09. Took my bike up to Dan's Cycle in Seymoure, IN and had it FIXED. It now runs like new. Gary at Dan's said that one cylender in front and one in back were not timed right. Also that two valves were not seating right and that they could have been damage. All that was taken care of. And he got Yamaha to take care of those problems even though it was out of warrenty. He blamed it on the work done under warrenty. Thanks Yamaha. While there I went on several rides with the owner of Dan's Yamaha, and his son Gary. I have tried to down load a picture of what the tirke looks like now. who know how it will turn out. I rode over a thousand miles in 4 Sundays while up there. They sure know how to treat a misplaced Yankie! Being down here in Florida I forgot how nice it was to have hills to ride up and down. And they have trees too with real leaves. Not all these so called trees with needles on them. Hope to see you all at the "Tail" Ken
  10. after talking to some of you guys and listing to talk about warranty i got to thinking way back when i bought the bike june of 08 i didnt receive any paper work on the warranty so i e-mail the place where i bought the bike and this is the response i got from them Here is the warranty info that you requested , at the time of sale to you we did not transfer the warranty into your name, this was an error on our end. This does not matter however as the warranty is on the bike and not the person. Today, I will have your information added to the owner record at Yamaha so that their records are up to date. When it is updated online I will forward you another copy of your owner registration card. Thanks i bought it in KC at RENO"S a real nice bunch to deal with.
  11. The 2010 harleys were announced today on thier web site. No big changes, nothing water cooled. Same old thing, with some different names. I sure hope Yamaha makes more changes then HD did.
  12. Tied for first was the RSV and the HD. Even though the RSV is 10 years without any changes. PAY ATTENTION Yamaha. Some updates would put it first and make money for Yamaha.
  13. The 2010 harleys are supposed to be on the web site saturday at noon. The annual dealer show is saturday. Will be interesting to see what they have for 2010. Will also be interesting to see what yamaha has for 2010 in september.
  14. I am at the dealer in Tallahassee, Fl for my 44,000 service and new tires. Just got through talking to the dealer about the venture. This dealer doesn't think there will be a venture in 2010. He thinks it's over for the venture all together. He says the sales aren't good on the venture and yamaha isn't spending any money on anything. There isn't going to be a dealer meeting this year. A yamaha rep is going to visit each dealer and go over the 2010 lineup. This dealer said yamaha makes a good product but the people at the headquarters in Japan don't listen and don't care what dealers have to say. He said he felt sorry for the guy over the USA operation because he wants to see changes but they won't even listen to him in Japan. This dealer said he had been to many dealer meeting over the years and that the USA executives will talk with you and listen but when the execs from Japan come in they won't even speak to the dealers. They get before the group and give a talk and leave. He also said he thinks the only thing that could get yamaha of Japan to keep a touring bike would be the kawasaki voyager. If it sales then maybe yamaha will re consider. He pointed out that on the new vmax yamaha wanted a $1,000 deposit before they would order one. He said very few people will pay a deposit without even seeing a bike. Japan told the dealers if they got 2,500 orders they would bring the new vmax to the us. There were only 1,900 orders so the head of yamaha usa sent a message to all yamaha employees to please order a vmax if they were interested or there wouldn't be one. He said they wound up with 2,100 orders so Japan introduced the v-max even though there weren't 2,500 order. Now for the disclaimer. Who knows. We hear all kind of rumors and they are worth what they cost. Nothing. But I thought I would pass this along. Maybe we need a section for useless yamaha rumors.
  15. I recently added a post to the first gen tech library that lists a couple of automotive thermostats that can be used in place of the expensive Yamaha thermostats on the first gen bikes. Somebody asked if these thermostats would also work on the second gen. Does anybody know?
  16. See this link http://www.gizmag.com/page/6/ about half way down the page to see a photo MOTORCYCLES Yamaha set to launch hybrid production motorcycle for 2010 By Ben Purvis 02:35 June 22, 2009 PDT Back in 2005, Yamaha showed the wacky 2005 Gen-Ryu hybrid concept bike at the Tokyo Motor Show amidst a raft of other very non-conventional two wheelers such as the aptly named FC-Me fuel cell bike, the ingenious Deinonychus elec tric reconfigurable motorcycle, the Chivicker, Passol and the Maxam two-wheeled limousine. Now it appears certain the bike will become a showroom model in 2010. A series of patent applications detail the new motorcycle which uses the YZF-R6 600cc engine to turn a generator which in turn powers the rear wheel. History shows that every Yamaha styling patent published over the last 20 years has resulted in a full production machine, so there's little doubt this one is also heading for a showroom near you in the very near future. You can expect to see it in the flesh for the first time at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year. Read More
  17. I am seriously considering getting the road sofa w/gel pad insert for my '08 RSV.....however, saddlemen only lists the seat for up to an '02 Venture:think:.This should work, right???Since YAMAHA hasn't changed anything on the bike in 10 years..... don't ya think???
  18. A Radio Antenna and CB power box & wiring are on Ebay this week and listed under the heading of Yamaha Royal Star Venture. I know that some of you are interested.
  19. I searched but there appears to be no answer out there in VentureRiders.org land (yet). Which antifreeze should we be using? Someone told me to use a non-silicate blend and to use Honda (automobile type 2) or the Toyota long-life stuff which will prolong long the life of the water pump. I also see Yamaha has some special stuff at their usual outrgaeous prices. I have been using plain old Prestone green stuff (mix your own 50/50). What's the consensus out about antifreeze out there?
  20. I had some extra time on my hands so I went to my local Yamaha dealer to ask some questions. On previous visits I was unimpressed with their service department; but hey, I Just wanted to inquire and look at the RSV if they had one. They didn't have one on the showroom floor so I just looked around. Even though I know Yamaha is tight lipped on releasing any info on future models, I inquired about the 2010 RSV. I asked about the possibility of FI and colors. To my surprise the sales guy said they were already FI. I said no and he had to get the brochure to verifiy. I think I will check out the other dealers in my area. He did state that any new info would not be released until late September on the new models. I guess it's good to check around!!
  21. FYI Heads Up!!! I just found what I think is the best price for the Yamaha tinted lower wind vents for the RSV or RSTD. Yamaha lists the price at $199. Ron Ayers Motorsports has them listed on his website for $136.14. He is offering free shipping as well for a limited time. I have included the link to his catalog for those who may be interested in adding this safety device to their ride. http://www.ronayers.com/catalogs/yahacc/parts.cfm?secid=10&type=310 I got to see these installed at the Chicago Bike Show this past weekend and thought that they would be a nice addition to my ride especially in the hot weather season.
  22. I read the tech advisory from Freebird (thanks buddy) on how to install the Yamaha spoiler with brake light......but am confused about the wiring. Freebird show directions on where to connect THREE wires....mine only has two: red and black. Does this mean a) mine isn't genuine Yamaha (does someone else make one?) ...or b) I lost a wire somewhere? If I am resigned to having/using only two wires, can anyone advise which "jacks" they should be plugged into to provide either "on when running" or "on when braking" or both? Thanks, guys! Mike Smart riding saves lives......loud pipes cause deafness and piss of your neighbours.
  23. The stars must have been crossed yesterday. Lost my 05 RSTD key in the sand. Found out my son put the spare key in the locked saddle bag by accident. Had to leave the bike over night in the parking lot. Any suggestion on what can be done. Can the Yamaha dealer cut a new key with vin number. They do not open until 10 PST. Is there a parts number for the blank. Locksmiths at Lake Tahoe want $150 for a mobile but may not have Yamaha keys:fiddle: Thanks Nevada Max
  24. I appologize up front as this may turn into a lengthy post, but I need advice from you all. Background; I bought my 07 RSTD late last year from a local dealer with a good rep. I was originally looking at a different Yamaha (1300 Tourer) and had fully researched it when I found my RSTD for the same sale price ($8,999). I figure it's late in 08 and they need to get the 07 off the floor so they are offering a great deal. I couldn't pass it up so I got the RSTD. When I was doing my financing, the 'finance guy' offered my an extened warranty that would cover the bike for 48 months after the 12 month factory warranty ran out. I had no clue that the Royal Star was supposed to have a 5 year factory warranty (which I learned later from this site and verified in my owners manual), so I bought the extended warranty. Left that day showing 0000.1 on the odometer none the wiser. Revelation; I figure I don't need the extended warranty so I go to the dealer and tell them the situation expecting them to either give me the money back or credit my account. So after the initial "oh, you only have a 12 month factory warranty... oops, that's a royal star." discussion with one of the finance folks, she admitted that I should not have been sold the extended warranty. :bang head:She also said they would cancel the extended one and credit my account. Great! Says she need to verify paperwork and she'll be back. Problem start; She comes back and tells me that the bike does have a 5 year warranty, but that it's mechanical only. Now there was no mention of this when I bought the bike and I signed no paperwork stating that I was accepting a bike with other than a factory warranty. I explain this to her and want to know why the bike isn't under a full Yamaha factory warranty. I am told that the dealer gets some bikes in from the manufacturer this way and that is why they can sell them at such a good price. She then tells me that she the dealer invoice stated mechanical warranty only. I ask her why I wasn't told this and made to sign something when I bought the bike. Deer in the headlights. I then explained that if I bought the bike assuming I had a full warranty, even if for only the 12 months I was told, and then found out that it was only a 'mechanical warranty' that was not disclosed that they pulled a 'bait and switch'. Deer in the headlights with a heavy oh crap undertone. Work in progress; She told me she would have to look into the file, corner the original finance worker, talk with her boss, blah blah blah. I told her I understood this wouldn't get fixed over night and that it might take a bit to clear up. I also told her that her dealership had a good rep and so did Yamaha and that I fully expect them to take care of me with a full warranty. "Well, I need to talk to Yamaha, blah blah..." but I will get back to you tomorrow or early next week. My thoughts; So I am leaning towards letting them have a chance to work this out. I am not sure if the dealer wants to call the mother ship and tell them they illegally sold a bike, basically putting themselves on report. I figure the 50lb heads need to get together and figure out a solution. Could be, they will warranty the bike for the 5 years for the parts that aren't covered by Yamaha, but I need to make sure I am covered no matter where I take the scooter. Advice; This is where I need your help. Do I give the dealer a couple of days to work this out? Do I call Yamaha customer service first thing tomorrow and intervene before they have a chance? This could mess up the dealer trying to fix it. Is Yamaha Customer service the right place to start if I have to call? Has anyone heard of a 'new' bike being sold with anything other than a factory warranty? And the piece de resistance, what is considered 'mechanical'? Throttle? Forks? Springs? Shocks? Brakes? Again, I appologize for the length, but I needed to get this out.
  25. I am looking for a handlebar damper for the left side of a 2nd gen. Mine apparently decided to exit stage left yesterday. Don't really want to spend $24+ to the dealer. It would be great if someone in the Dallas area has one so I could just pick it up. Yamaha is sure proud of their rubber parts, as I spent $14 to replace the ring around the ignition switch.
