  1. Assuming that I continue to get better, I plan to take the family to the company resort in Wisconsin next week. I think we will leave on Saturday and not return until the next Saturday. Spend some leisure time and rest up a bit. I will have Internet service there so will be checking in from time to time but let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year. I hope that 2008 will be one of good health and prosperity for all of you.
  2. This Morning my battery was week and I couldnt start a bike... no big deal, hooked up battery tender and left to ride with Stratoliner. make 120 miles and get back home. Battery tender was flashing orange light what mean bad battery. Try to unplug and plug back.. but each time have same reading. So after 3 winters it's a time to buy new battery. I will go with Odyssey or glass mat gel batteries, as well motorcycle Li-ion High capacity. Where is best deal for batteries. what is your experience which one is best replacement for stock one, or should i just go with stock one.? Thanks
  3. Okay my friends. Seeing that the bulk of our members live in the northern hemisphere and are hours behind the rest of the world, I think it's time I chimed in to wish you all a Merry Christmas (MC) from Down Under (DU). The big fat fella in the red suit has been and gone and there are reindeer droppings all over the front lawn. My wife and I have had a great morning with the entire family doing the pressies thing, and right now #1 son is finishing off preparing a baked dinner for Christmas lunch. As I type it's approaching 2pm on Christmas day, and we have lots left yet to do. Sun down is around 8:10pm and about then it will be time for our next BBQ dinner in the garden. Ah, summer! So as you wake and begin to share your day with your loved ones, and have a quick look at the website, let me wish you all a fantastic day as I start to wind down. Peace and blessings, love and light to everyone from Australia - where the wide open spaces make riding a real Venture. Cheers, Spear
  4. Electrical dead. Batt is fine. Power at the main 30 amp fuses but nothing at the dash. Going to the shop tomorrow. Very disapointing, first time I've had to trailer a bike home in six years and 90K plus miles.
  5. Submitted the same thread twice......
  6. Well I guess I really am joining the club. After my ride from Brisbane on arriving home in Perth I noticed a small leak coming from the rear shock. Not knowing what I now know (thanks to all here) my mechanic sent it off to Sydney to be rebuilt. After a long silence I called him up - wots the go bro? Can't be rebuilt! Damn. Anyway I saved my mechanic a long time searching for a replacement after reading "Spears" troubles in Australia replacing his and immediately ordered one from FlatoutMotorcycles. Hopefully it will arrive here next week and my bike will be back on the road in time for Xmas. Summer holidays here.
  7. TOO much time on yours hands.................Geez...... where have I heard that before
  8. May the Joy of the Yule Tide Season be with You and Yours During this Blessed Time Of Celebration Merry Christmas Condor & Family
  9. As our kids reach the"teenage "years, there's not much time left for Dad,unless of course the bike is loaded..they still seem to find the time to ride...yes!!!!
  10. Specifically from people in South Carolina. Will have a place to stay temporarily, and I'm starting to struggle with getting rid of stuff that I don't need and really don't want to move, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the long distance job search thing. Any ideas? http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/images/misc/progress.gif
  11. hi all my guardian bell came in the mail this afternoon. what a peice of metal, has a nice feel to it also. so much better than my old bell. thanks freebird for thaking the time to do this, i'am well pleased. best regards don:322:
  12. I have owned my VR for a long time and I have always had a problem with the radio stations not staying in memory. Granted there are times that I do not ride for long periods of time, so if the battery goes dead I would understand it. However if I don't ride it for several days, I must reprogram the stations. It has been like this since the first time I bought it back in the late 80's. Is this a common problem, and is there a fix for it?
  13. I know myself, Salty, Dakotasport and Bubbajbi have made the switch. I was just looking to see who all has done this. I like the venture cause it is a rare bike to see out there, but even more rare to see them in STARGLIDE form. The first time I saw the term starglide was on Dakotasport's sig and I love it. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  14. For the life of me I cant seem to recall if the front turn signal lights stay on all the time when running. I noticed them on for the first time today and now im wondering, especially since I have been having all these small electrical issues, are they supposed to be on all the time? Well??? Please help an old feeble minded bloke out.
  15. We have a new member that lives in AZ at the moment. He's here till January from Taiwan and is interested in getting some riding in out that way. So if any of our folks out there can meet up with him it would be great. His name is Tony Lin I didn't see if he had a phone number listed but I'm sure if he's interested in riding he'll be back on the site so you could just pm him. He also wants to know about joining a yamaha motorcycle club even though he'll only be here for a short time. I don't know how that works so if someone could help him with that as well that would be great. Margaret
  16. My son and I recently got back from a ride in the Texas Hill Country. We visited Fredericksburg, Leakey Luckenbach and Bandera. We rode the Three Sisters ( FM 335, 336, 337). We also made a stop at the Texas famous, Garven Store. It switched from rain to shine on all three days but we got some good riding time. This is the first ride we have got to do together since he came back from Iraq. Here are a few pictures from the trip. Moakster
  17. My nephew bought a new Stratoliner "S" this spring.. What a GORGEOUS piece of work that baby is.. Personalizing it with additional chrome add ons he spent over 18 grand on it... He didnt even have 1000 miles on it and some low life stomped down on his rear fender and did a bunch of damage to it... Personally,, I chalked his bad experience up to pure jealously - sure makes you wonder though... Yesterday I have my ol 83 out playing in the cold.. Tossed on the leather sled suit and took a refreshing ride at 20 degrees... Only stop I made was at a local store for a few minutes,, I parked up next to the building in the motorcycle area.. I get home and discover that someone had kicked the left side bag guard hard enough that it had broken the mount for my backrest off the guard and bent the guard back and down against the bag.. Our local area has been experiencing a lot of this kind of stuff.. All the powers that be blame it on our Michigan economic situation, home forclosures, bored kids/adults,,, whateverr... As I worked in my garage earlier straightening out the mess the thought went through my mind of just how far we have fallen - I mean, come on folks,,,,,, jealousy over a 24 year old bike that was one of the most unwanted,, overlooked,, unpurchased scoots of its time???? Wont be long and the jerks around here will be willing to risk 15 years for Grand Theft for a stupid Chinese Moped.... On the same note,,,,,, I WOULD LOVE TO CATCH EM JUST ONE TIME!!!! Sorry,, had to fume... 'Puc
  18. How many trouble free miles have you put on your RSV???Don't be shy....Brag away!!!!
  19. Yesterday morning we left real early to head up to Jrichards and Patricia's to pick up a '92 Venture. On the way back we met up with riderduke and his wife, daughter, and sister-in-law. Got home somewhere around 12:30 or 1:00 am this morning. We ran into one of those lovely slow downs on I95 for no apparent reason then someone somewhere hit their brakes, that took us till 9pm to get off of. Finally got passed that and tried making up some time on 295. Unfortunately couldn't make up any time on 460 way too many cops out on that stretch. Got to NC going thru suffolk and found fog. But we finally got home. Saw some of them nice furry four legged critters, don't like them in the fog. Anyway here's a pic of the new addition to the muffin house. Margaret
  20. hay spear or anybody from the land of oz , can you guys put on a time and temp. in your sig. ??? it would be kewl to see what time and temp is down there . squeeze is now using one it looks like it is wet and cold over on the other side rite now .
  21. It's that time of year again. The dreaded Black Friday Sale. Women dream about this day for months. By tomorrow night the check book will be empty. Last year I got there 1/2 hour before opening at 5:00 am. I had 600 ahead of me. Now I know why Walmart quit the layaway program. It keeps the low lifes out. Middle class still puts on a good pushing and shoving show with fights to. I'm not going this year but mamamo will bring me a report.I hope she parks on the far end of the lot easy on the paint.
  22. This will take a little explaining, but please bear with me; it's been a long time coming and if I don't tell someone who will appreciate it, I'll bust! I got my '98 RSTD back in May, after about a 25 year dry spell of being without. As luck would have it, I didn't even get to ride in the spring because of hernia surgery, followed shortly by a minor heart attack and stent surgery. When I finally got the OK to do things again, I wanted to get W/W tires and pipes put on and I had to get it lowered before I was going to attempt going anywhere. I also wanted to get the 8k service done way early so I'd have a good warm & fuzzy. Finally got all that done and started getting some time on the bike to get my "sea legs" back so to speak and have spent the last couple of months regaining my proficiency (to MY level of expectation). My wife of almost 40 years never rode with me more a couple of miles (and only one time at that) on either my Bonneville ('69) or Suzuki ('82) back in the day. Well, it seems she has a yen to ride now. She got herself a neat little leather jacket and the cutest little bitty engineer boots I've ever seen. A friend was getting rid of his Harley and his wife gave mine her helmet (used maybe 2 times), and we were pretty well set to go. She got a cold and was off the radar for about a month, then I had a less severe bout and a lingering sore throat, that finally went away. Which brings us to today. After she went for some last minute groceries for Thanksgiving, we donned our duds and took a perfect 75 degree ride through the country near here, for about an hour and a half. I almost cried. I love riding, especially out in the country. It is SO much more fulfilling and fun to have her ride with me after all these years. I can't imagine a better day (in this world) than today! She enjoyed the ride and the bike; I was ecstatic. So, when I give thanks tomorrow (today, now) it will be for a lot of things...life, love, God's blessings and yes..my motorcycle and the day before Thanksgiving, 2007, when me and my wife went motorcycle riding 2-up. M-m-m-m-m...Man life is good! Steve.R (aka autopilot)
  23. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/071118GarnerSP014.jpg?t=1195701328 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/01REDWING/071118GarnerSP005.jpg?t=1195701127 The boss (payday one) gave me Friday off so I got an early start on the weekend. Since I had all this extra time to kill, a bit longer route from San Angelo to Garner SP was in order. Took a nice leisurely ride to Fredricksburg then down Hwy 16 through Kerrville. I thought those hair pin turns between Kerrivlle and Medina would be good tests on the cornering ability of the newest trailer... I was VERY PLEASED to say the least... I sure don't regret changing over from the single wheel to dual wheel version of "Nugget". Anyway, I finally got down to GSP about 3:00. My buddy was leaving San Angelo sometime after noon so I got my tent set up and entertained myself watching neighboring campers until he finally showed up... We rode back into Leaky for supper then back to camp. Stopped and picked up a couple bundles of fire wood.. Man I do like a camp fire !!! :) Saturday bright and early I was up and had coffee made (you knew that)... We rode over to the Lost Maples Restaurant in Utopia for breakfast. It was misting a bit on the way but had stopped while we were eating.. From there we headed across the hills to Hwy 16 and then up to Medina again to pick up 337. Hooked up with 187 at Vanderpool and on up the road for a short stop at the Texas Motorcycle Museum. Every time I get by there I just have to stop and see if Allen has some new toy... I swear he does but who knows for sure... We rode on up to Hwy 39 then across to 183 and back down to The Pit Stop at Leakey for a quick chat with those folks. From there it was across 337 then both directions on 335. By this time it was getting real hungry out so we headed back to The Pit Stop for a late lunch snack then back to the camp for a while... We ate supper at that little burger place between Garner SP and Leakey.. It's really a pretty nice place. I expected a bit of a dive.... Got back to the camp and stoked up the fire again.... Yup, killed more trees... Shortly after hitting the sleeping bag I woke up with a fire in my guts!!!! Made it to the bathroom just in time to loose large amounts of supper... Several times that night I made repeat trips... Sunday morning I managed to break camp and somehow got back here without major incidents. It took WAY longer then normal to make the trip but I got here and that is what counted.... Friday and Saturday's riding was FANTASTIC!!!! Saturday night and Sunday sucked..... I guess it's called life.... Wish y'all could have come along........
  24. Hey Guys & Gals! First thing . . . I love this forum! All of you are awesome! However, during the warm weather I am typically either out riding or puttering around outside during my free time, rather than sitting in front of my computer. Yesterday, we reached a record high (for this time of the year), it was 69 degrees. So, I took advantage of the nice day and got all of the remaining leaves raked up, mowed the lawn and trimed the edges and I'm now prepared for the snow and winter weather which is supposed to arrive tonight. he highs are supposed to be in the 40s today! Of course, I will still do a little riding over the next few months now and then (I've got my Gerbing jacket liner & gloves this year), but for the most part my bike will be seeing a lot of garage time from now until spring. The good part, is that I will be able to visit with everyone here more. During these next several cold months, I would like to be able to tinker in my garage a bit making upgrades to the bike, etc. But, typically my garage is too cold to spend much time in during the winter. So, I have been thinking about a propane heater. I have an old Kerosene space heater, but it doesn't quite do the job well enough. At Autozone (an autoparts store here) I saw that they had a propane torpedo-style heater which looked like it might work all right. My garage is an attached, two-car size with a few insulated windows and a regular-sze back door. It's not insulated but can be mostly draft-free and would be considered pretty well ventilated. Ideally, it would be nice to have a full-size industrial garage heater, but I'm not quite up to that point yet. So, I'm looking for a a smaller alternative. I have also tried a couple of smaller space heaters like a dish-style and a box-type, but I found that they didn't work as well in a garage as the do inside the house. I don't want to spend a lot (I know that's relative sorry), but I would like to find out what my choices might be. Has anyone found something which works well for them and can offer some suggestions? Have a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving! Pete.
  25. Well we had a little maintenance day at the Beer Cave today on Bill Darling's bike. Bill brought this bike up to Beers so that I could help him with some wiring issues and a few other things. Mini will post pics later in the day.We left the Muffin shack at 9am and got to the Beer cave at 11:30 Bill arrived at around noon and we got started on the bike.We removed about 20 wires and started over on his rear light bars and switches. We had a great time and a Great meal before we finished the repairs.Bill left around 9 pm and we left a little later and got home at 1:45am.I would say that it as a very succesfull day for all. Thanks to Gene and Becky for the shop and a very good Briskit and thanks Bill for meeting half way.
