  1. Where is the best place to tap in for power for my new Garmin 2720? I have the outer Fairing off at the moment for some other stuff... is there a good place to draw power from under there? Thanks
  2. OK, its official now, Business Week, mag. has finally said the the Ethenol Industry is an economic bust. And the stuff actually lowers MPG on most vehicals. Nothing but a political shell game !!! ( but we all knew that ) :stirthepot::stirthepot::stirthepot::doh::doh: And, they added that the stuff is damaging a lot of engines !!!:witch_brew:
  3. I got a offer in the mail the other day stating that I have been nominated for a charter membership in Motorcycle Riders Club of America. They sent me a nice little writting pad, a card with my name on it and a zipper pull of an American Eagle. I just can't think of what I ever did to deserve this great honor. They said they would send me stuff for me to try out and then I would have to write a little blurb about if I kiked it or not and why. But I get to keep what ever they send me! Maybe they will send me new Venture to try and to keep. All this for one little monthly fee! WOW! Do you think they send everybody stuff to try or just us "Charter Members" ? Any boby else out there that is also a "Charter Member" OH HAPPY DAY!!!!!:banana:
  4. The local Harley dealer puts on rider schools once a month. They call it the Riders Edge. The use the MSF books so it can't be half bad. Since my kid (17) is working on trying to get his motorcycle endorsement, we thought it would be a good idea for him to get some training to help make him a safer rider. I figure it could not hurt me so I signed up to go with him. Yesterday was the first class. Thrusday and Friday 5 PM to 8:30...Saturday 8 AM to 6:30 Sunday 8AM till 4 PM. Maximim 6 to a class. We have 3 ladies and 3 guys including my son and me. The Ladies - 2 has never sat on a bike. One has a bike but does not know how to ride it yet. The other guy is military and required to take this course to ride on base. They told us Harley will pay us $50 to go to the class..."Any of you own a Harley?"..none of us had a Harley..."oh thats too bad" they said with enfaces. First class. (my impression) Sales pitch. We get there at 5 PM...have introductions and then a dealership tour. They show us the Motor Clothes each line of everthing they have. Boots, helmet, t shirts, jackets pants, rain gear huggies, Coffee cups and ceiling fans. We have to look at 10 different jackets pointing out the features of each. Pading here, zippers here, this type of collar and this type of collar. You get the idea. Then we move to parts...they show us all the different chrome they have and the lines of chrome you can use, performance parts and OE parts. Sales...show us all the families and models of the bikes Harley offers if they did not have them all the showed us pictures of them...talk about financing, warranties, and adding accessories during the sale and financing it all. Went around to the Service department. Talked about scheduling appointments and how long it takes to get your bike serviced...that all they do...how they handle warranty work. "Normal guy cannot do the maintenace on these bikes" All the time the prices was over the guys head what it cost to do 1000 and 5000 mile service...400 and how much? (My God ) with small print...oil and supplies extra. Then we got into the class...the real reason we were there. It went pretty good...we covered some good stuff. 2nd night tonight and they told us we were gonna get to try on all the motor clothes tonight. I just hope I can keep my composure...I do not want any of that stuff with HD on it that cost $100 more just because it has HD on it. Some of that stuff...I would not wear to a halloween party...even if it has skulls on it. Come on...we are paying $300 a head for this school...they do provide the bikes for training (buel) All for them to try to get a sale out of the deal and working very hard I might add. It is not like I hate Harleys or nothing...just do not see paying more money for a name on an item... Most of that same stuff is at the Yamaha dealer $100 less without the HD on it. Harley is a good bike as far as I know. They have some beautiful bikes but I learned the you are not finished paying for it when you purchase it. Maintenace seems very costly after taking that tour. To me you look kind funny riding a RSV with a jacket on that has Harley across the back and front in 4 inch letters. It is just me or WHAT?
  5. I occasionally surf thru ebay and have found some good stuff and some junk. I am also amazed at what some of these folks think their stuff is worth. It is not uncommon to see something listed for a buy-it-now price of $150 and on the next page, the same thing listed for $20 and still no or very few bids. My question, as it pertains to this forum is; if I see something I think others may need or want, should I flag it to the masses on here? Because, when I am watching something that I want, I don't want someone blabbing to the world about it. When I am bidding, I kind of feel it is everyone else's tough luck if they do not spend the effort to look on ebay. But, when I come across something I think you guys may want, I want to flag it to the group. I would really like to know how others feel about this. RandyA
  6. Any one heard or is using this technology? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GScWPb8qcng&NR=1]YouTube - Crazy motorcycle tires[/ame] Looks pretty good stuff.
  7. I'm putting this in the classifieds as well.. Parting out my old 83 VR.. Plastic is mostly shot Lots of other great parts.. Not interested in Ebaying stuff. I'm more interested in getting rid of most of the stuff rather than getting rich.. Backrest, Floorboards w/ heel toe shifter,TCI, very nice rear chrome and most all other misc parts. PM me , ask for what you need and we'll make a good deal... Clay

    maple syrup

Anyone had this years maple syrup yet? Went up to my brother-in-laws tonight. He is making some very light colored beautiful stuff right now. Nothing better on pancakes.
  9. How many use torque wrenches for routine maintenance and who tightens until it is "about right"? I realize that proper torque is absolutely critical for some applications. Do you use more than one wrench (i.e. low range 1/4 or 3/8 plus high range- usually 1/2")? What type of torque wrench do you use (i.e. "clicker")? I have heard it mentioned that the torque specification (by Yamaha) for the axles are too high. For instance on the Roadstar, I believe that 110 ft.lb is recommended for the rear wheel while the general concensus is that 80 or so is sufficient. Any opinions for the RSV? In the past, I have generally borrowed a torque wrench to use only for things I consider to be critical but I am thinking about buying a couple of new ones to cover the necessary ranges. (I have used the "about right" method for most stuff) Thought I would solicit some opinions. I am not into major stuff - I would leave an engine teardown to someone who knows more than I do - but I prefer to do everything I can. Thanks Ross
  10. I had my 08 carbs worked on as they were leaking, and since then it idles very slow and has died on me a few times. Do I have to tear a bunch of stuff down to get to the idle screws and when I do this do they need synch again? and not ever seeing the carbs on one of these what ones am I looking for? thanks:crying:

    Trike Fun

I had no idea how much fun the trikes can be. I know there will be two or three at Maintenance Day....maybe I can borrow one of them and try some of this stuff out. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYnP6tifNM8]YouTube - IBEX Trike built by B. Goat[/ame]

  13. Has anyone ever thought about having their VR Rims chromed?, or would it even work? Just a thought.
  14. Well a few of you know I decided to upgrade my bike rather than get a new one. Just decided I didnt want the Harley so my Venture was gonna get paint and some upgrades for much less money. Just yesterday I got the first bunch of painted stuff back and I will tell you that boy did I make the right move!!! The stuff looks great. I wont tell you the color but its HOT!!! I also ordered my upgrade stator and got the jets I need to retune the carbs on the way also. Anyway Im starting to get excited for the season. I dont plan on uncovering the boat this year so I got more riding time!!! BTW there wont be any pics until its done!!! LOL

  16. I was thinking, after reading the prize list for Ft. Collins, about all the prizes being really great and all, but more "Man", "Man and his scooter", "Boy and his dog", oriented. Here's the idea, mull it over and see if this sounds like something you want to do. Ladies, the ones I know at least, like baskets of stuff. Now, I don't know if each would be willing to work up a basket or not but you could make them with different themes. Some themes would be.......Movie night, relaxation, bath night, romance, coffee lovers, chocolate lovers, book lover etc. etc., etc. you get the idea. Movie night could be a basket with a movie, microwave popcorn, hot chocolate, goobers etc. things you'd eat at the movies....you know, bath night could be a basket with stuff from Bath and body works, a CD of relaxing music, you know, things you can pamper yourselves with in the bath...etc. let your minds go wild. I think this would be a great way for the ladies to get more involved and get some stuff as well. Most of these would not cost all that much to make and could be fun things to give away at the rally. You could even make some up for the guys if you really wanted to (Naw they get enough stuff anyway). They could be done in advance and brought or you could do them here. There is a Michael's, Hobby Lobby (for baskets), Bath and Body works and lots of other places to get things here.
  17. OK, who knows all about Visco Elastic Polymer, Padding material. ???? I found its being used for Race Car Seats, supposed to be comfortable !! Anybody know the details on the this stuff ?? From what I have been able to find it came on the market about 3 years ago. Supposed to be the Cats Meow, for comfortable seating ??
  18. Gerday all. Just doing a little test. I wandered into my local electronics store yesterday and picked up a wireless router so I can run my laptop as well as my PC. I managed to get it all hooked up, and am now submitting via the laptop. Might be old hat to some of you younger guys, but for me this is good stuff. Now the pillion can't complain that I'm on-line when she goes to bed. I CAN TAKE THE VENTURE FORUM TO BED AS WELL.:Im not listening to:rotfl::rotfl:

  20. Cleaning out the garage today, took off the YICS and the plastic covers that go over the valve covers last year, just sittin' on the shelf-GOTTA GO! If anybody wants them for postage, PM me. May throw some other stuff on here if I find any. First come, first served, I'll check messages later on. I believe the YICS is still sealed. Dan
  21. Just got back from a six day trip to Mexico with a friend. For all my fellow Canuks, that white stuff on the ground is sand, not snow...LOL
  22. Ok I don't know who's responsible but whoever it is needs to go apologize to mother nature. We got SNOW today. Yes I said SNOW the stuff we don't get. I live in NC along the Albemarle sound. We never get snow in Nov, heck we're lucky if we get any in Dec. Thankfully it's melting but it came none the less and I wasn't happy. My poor miniature rose I left outside with all its blooms on it, hope it'll be ok. I usually bring it in if it's still got flowers on it. I'm done I've had it winter needs to end. I moved south so I didn't have to deal with this stuff. Ok I'm done ranting. Margaret
  23. I know this isn't Venture/T D etc related, but I have a friend of mine who is looking for a place where his brother could purchase V-Star patches ,emblems, and other items .He also is looking for a larger ,bigger chrome and emblem for his windshield. He rides a 2002 V-Star classic 1100 cc I figured possibly some of you guys might have an answer - I did tell him to check the V STAR boards for stuff. Thanks, anyone, for the help.
  24. Does anyone know of a not so exspensive, winter time, full face helmet, that does not fogg up. I have tried the antifogging stuff, does not work for me. I also tried folding aluminum foil up and sticking under shield to hold open slightly, no good either.I have read a little on here about a helmet that has an extra shield for this ?? The local dealer could not help me, he said he knew of a stick on stuff or something like that ? I know there is got to be loads of fellow riders who are looking for a warm full face that does not fogg up ( so dangerous that I stopped riding until I can do better ). Thanks in advance.
  25. I recently put some 85.5 gas in my bike and couldn't tell any difference. I did however burn it all out before I put her to bed for the night. Has anyone used any of this stuff and had problems with it?
