  1. I did not take the advice of the weatherman today and went for a ride with my neighbour Kevin. We took a ride with his brother, and Kevins two brotherinlaws to a small town called Mansfield Ontario.Kevin took us through his endless supply and twisty and interesting roads. We stopped in Mansfield and had a bite to eat.( No icecream)My old bike played nice with all the newer chrome.....Paysaw:Venture:
  2. Ive had my 83 Venture Royale for 6 wks or so. Today after sitting for maybe 5 days, I started out for a ride, it died at 20 mph. It would start in neutral but would die as soon as I put it in 1st. After scratching my head for awhile I tried again and it seemed OK. I rode for an hr. or so, and stopped at the store. When I went to leave the same thing happened. This time I started out in 2nd, and when I got home it seemed to be fine. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. OK...when stopped (stopped only)...and I have to feather the clutch, I hear a "CREAKING" sound coming from the clutch lever. I can also barely feel this creaking. Looking at it, I think I can see a rubber boot (maybe not)...so I am afraid to oil it until I hear from some of you. Any suggestions or comments on this... Wally
  4. Went for a ride this morning and the clutch lever started getting very easy to pull in and the then had problems getting it to go into gear and of course wanted to creep forward while in first gear stopped. Can't see it being the clutch since it's a 96 with only 4800 miles. Possibly a clutch master rebuild?
  5. Not much being posted in videos, so I tried a different view. I even think I stopped at all stop signs [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yZ8IDIQPeM]YouTube- Go Pro Side Mount.MP4[/ame] .
  6. After the funeral Friday my Daughter went up to spend the Holiday with her nephew in the thumb of Michigan. I road the bike up to bring her back and for the 2 hour ride back she didn't shut up once. Did not hook up the intercom and she just rattled on and on and on. If I didn't answer her she just answered herself. When we hit rain I figured she would close her visor and couldn't talk, but no, left it open and just kept talking away. Man did I get a ear full of her future hopes and dreams. Even when we stopped to get gas she talked while I was pumping, followed me in to pay for it and never missed a beat. At times I just couldn't keep from laughing. I better have a good cell phone plan when I let her have her own phone.
  7. Twice now I've run my fuel level down to less than a gallon. When I stopped to refuel, a small amount of gas dripped from a hose at the bottom center of the bike. I didn't actually see the fuel dripping. By the time I had finish fueling the bike, it had stopped. This doesn't happen with a half full tank and I don't see any signs of it dripping while it's parked in the garage. Anybody know why?
  8. So there we were (Nina & I), stopped at a red light on a 4-lane street, with left turn lanes, us in the inside lane waiting for the green to go straight thru. I'm watching the light for it to turn yellow for the cross traffic. We're first out. Light changes yellow...then red and..... BANG! Two cars travelling opposing direction on the cross street collide right in front of us. One was making a left turn, the other going straight thru. The one going straight thru (a red car) hit the one turning left (a blue car) near the right rear door and caused it to slide a bit. The red car stopped, the blue car regained control, made the turn and stopped at the curb. They both RAN THE RED LIGHT !!! So I get out to offer assistance to the driver of the red car...still stopped in the middle of the intersection. She asked for my info (which I would have given her) but I said "you should know that both of you ran the red light". She immediately argued that and didn't want my info so I thought "too bad" and I left. (nobody was injured). I reported it to the police and gave my statement to ICBC (govern't insurance co). My thinking is, if I can do anything to stop idiots who are in too much of a hurry that they run a red light, I will. Danged if I'm going to let either one of those drivers get away with that! ps... we weere in the truck, not the scoot, on our way to work.
  9. i just bought a few weeks ago, an 88 white royal and i just love it. i have a white 04 2nd gen that i thought needed some company in the garage. i really havent driven the 04 since i bought the 88. now i know what you 1st gen guys are talking about, but anyway before i start a fight here is what i need some help with. i was riding last weekend with a strong head wind i was was going 70-75 and the temp gauge started bouncing down, got out of the head wind did not do it again. on monday it would do it at 50-60 and quit working, but, in town or at a stoplight, it would work fine. today it wont work until i am almost stopped, if i get on the front brakes hard to stop it will work but as soon as i take off it will quit.i stopped in a parking lot pushed down hard on the front end and it worked but as soon as the shocks rebouned it quit. will my cooling fan still work in town if the gauge doesnt work? what i really want to know is in simple laymans terms where should i start looking for the loose wire. i dont want to take it to the stealer and pay for some kids education on a bike that he has never worked on. i sure someone on here can point me in the right direction, but, i dont want to start really tearing up everything on the bike.right now everything else works flawlessly, the air ride, cruse control,cb,radio, and i dont want to create more problems for myself, or if somebody knows a good mechanic that they could recommend i live about 1 hour south of mpls. mn. thanks
  10. My wife had to take a neighbor to see her Dr. today and she left me home alone with the credit card. MISTAKE !! I've been contemplating for several weeks and today I finally did it while she was gone. I bought the Garmin 1490T with the life time update card and a second lifetime card for my Zumo 550 on the bike. Lotta money - (about $500 ) but it's worth it just for the blue tooth. Last week I had to make a near 2000 mile trip alone and the phone never stopped. It always makes me nervous to answer the phone while driving but it's even worse when you have to call someone that's NOT in your phone book. Maybe I'm just getting too old for that OR maybe I'm finally getting a LITTLE smarter Now if I can stay outta site for a while - - - -
  11. It was a beautiful day so I checked my bike out, bathed it, took some pics for the gallery and hit the road. It was a wonderful ride until a heavy crosswind caught me on I-65 and my fake tank top went sailing. I stopped and picked it up and scooted for an exit. Unfourtunately when I pulled off the exit, my short inseam kept me on my tippy toes and it started going down on the right side. :scared: I managed to throw that foot down and after two hernias, stopped the fall and manhandled it back up. How the heck can I lower this thing an inch or two?! I found that the tab on the top had been cracked almost through and the wind finished it. I am going to try some ABS glue. She is still in one piece, no new scratches and I am going to go lay down until all my muscles stop hurting.
  12. I googled how to split the fairing and one of the results was at "venturer.org" when I clicked on it my virus checker stopped me saying that entrance could damage my computer...what's the buzz?
  13. Wife and I were riding the Foothills Parkway from Townsend to the lake and back Friday 11/13/2009 around 1:30-2:00. Someone on a Blue Venture came out of one of the overlook pull offs up ahead of us. I did not realize it was a Venture until we had to stop for a couple of rockets that got stopped for going too fast. Anyway, just wanted to say if it was you...NICE Bike!!! We were on the Silver Venture. You turned right toward Maryville and we turned left torward the Dragon but did not go there, just turned on around and got back on the Parkway going back.
  14. My black cloud is still hanging around I guess. As most of you know I lost my daily ride and trashed the clutch in my Saab. Anyway I was stuck without transportation. Stopped at car lot and grabbed a 2002 Tarus that seemed to run fair. It was dirty. I cleaned it up and it has scratches and stains all over. To make it worse the Warden (trying to help) washed it whith a plastic abrasiave pad and Soft Scrub. Now it does have scratches all over. That is not my problem she was trying to help and just didn't know what she was doing. They could probally be buffed out. My problem is I drove it for over 2 months. Had no reason to jack it up tires are good and it runs as good as a new one. Started making a thumping in the rear when you hit a bump the right way. So I looked under it and one of the pins that connect the rear strut to the sway bar was rusted into. No big deal I stopped at the parts store and picked one up to replace it. Body wise this thing looks good except for all the scratches. I started to jack it up to replace the pin. Jack went against plastic trim that runs along the rocker panels where it is supposed to go. Jack went up thur rocker panel and car didn't go up . Several handfulls of rust fell out from under the trim. I stopped and didn't go any farther before jack came thru floorboad. Question is did I just pay 4000.00 bucks to have a car for 2 months. Car lot owner's assistant promised they would call me back. Hasn't happened and I don't think he will unless he wants me to pay for anything they do to this thing. Didn't mean to write a book just a little ticked with this and thought someone would know what I ought to do. I was liking the Tarus and it runs great. Not as powerfull as my Buick and not as good on gas milage but I just got in a hurry and grabbed something with wheels on it. Thought I had gotten lucky for a change. NOPE!! This rust was complletly hidden by the trim. Is the car lot owner legal obligation to help me with this?? There was a 1000 mile or something like that power train warrenty. Trip to beach took care of that.
  15. :icon_smile_questionDo you turn off the fuel petcock on your bike when you are not riding? I got accustomed to not worrying about this with the 1st gen but see the manual says to turn it off when the bike is stopped. Is there a danger of fuel flowing down thru the carbs and into the cylinders and to the crankcase? Thanks! Don
  16. My wife and I went to a Peace Corps Reunion in SE MN. Wonderful ride up the Iowa side of The Great River Road then split off on hiway 52. Anyway, I took some pictures at the reunion of folks and mine was the only camera that took the group shot at the end before anyone left. We had a great ride back through Central Iowa on blacktops. On the north side of Oelwein we stopped to make a phone call. I had to get a # out of my camera bag and then we took off. Just after we cleared the city limits on the south side of town, I saw this biker in a beard on an HD gaining on me fast. (I don't hurry when my wife is with me.) He pulled up beside me and frantically motioned for me to get over. I wondered how this one was going to turn out. After we'd stopped, the first thing he said was "Did you lose something?" and then it hit me. I'd laid my camera bag on the trailer at our last stop. He had seen it on the ground, looked around and saw us disappearing in the distance, stopped to pick it up then raced to catch us clear through town. He is from Independence just north of Oelwein and was out for a ride. We talked and he said that he had broke his neck after hitting loose gravel on a corner a few years ago. Wow, I thought, then he risked a broken neck again to get our camera back to us. My wife says we were visited by an angel. I agreed. Hope she doesn't want me to buy a harley now. Thanks again Harley Angel. You're a GOOD Iowa Guy. Iowa Guy

    Dad update

My Dad likes making the Dr wrong. Here is a brief history. Two years ago he was diagnosed with multiple myaloma. He said I don't feel sick. One year ago the myaloma stopped his kidneys so dialysis was started. Last Wed he stopped breathing during the dialysis and his heart stopped. They shocked him back and rushed him to the ER. The Dr gave little hope of any recovery and if he did get better most likely brain damage. Well he stabilized in one day and they said he could not breath on his own, next day he was off the ventilator. The next day they brought him back from the induced coma and said don't expect him to be cognizant, he communicated by shaking his head and blinking (still had tube down his throat). Moved him to a bigger hospital yesterday and pulled the tubes and he ate dinner and is doing great. He likes making the Dr be wrong. There is no cure for his illness but we still have him for now. Thanks for the prayers. Rod
  18. Had a surprise visit from Muffinman yesterday afternoon, he stopped by on his way to Ft. Benning along with Blackjack, Wingman, and His wife. We comensurated for a while and then had a grand meal of Jambalaya, green beans, French bread garlic toast and chocalate cream pie for desert. As most of you know, Jeff is heading for Iraq to work for Uncle Obama for a year so it just made sense that since we are on the way, he stopped here for an overnite visit. Really gonna miss seeing the guy for a year and not seeing him post as often as he does, but I am sure Mini will keep us posted on his goings on. Those guys and gals over there are in for a real treat and one heck of a mechanic, cause if he is as good with planes and helicopters as he is with 1st Gens, they got the best mechanic around. I am sure everyone appreciates his sacrifice helping out like this, Thanks Jeff, your one of a kind. I know Mini is going to have a tuff time without Jeff around, so Mini if you need to talk to someone or lean on, you gots lotsa :bighug:family here so dont be shy, we are here for you. It was a nice little meet and eat and the last one we will have with the Muffinman for some time...........but when he comes home, we will have a grand one, I am sure..............
  19. In May of 1999, I bought my brand new Royal Star Venture. I put about 35,000 miles on it pretty quickly but then about 6 or 7 years ago, ran across another '99 model down in Southern Ohio that only had 5,000 miles on it. The price was about the same as I knew I could sell mine for so I bought it, moved all my accessories and etc. over to the new one and then sold my original on Ebay. The new one was the same color and etc. so it was like I hadn't even changed bikes except for the mileage. So this weekend I was looking through some papers and came upon the title for my bike. You can imagine how surprised I was to notice that I had never transferred it into my name. It was one of those things where I thought my wife and done it and she assumed that I had done it and it just didn't get done. I still received my registration notice every year from the previous '99 so I always just renewed the plates and kept on going. The problem was, the plates were actually assigned to the VIN number of the old bike. I guess I've been lucky because I've never been stopped so there has been no reason for them to run the VIN number against the plates. I DID change the insurance when I traded so my insurance was on the correct bike. So, yesterday morning I stopped by the BMV and finally transferred the title to my name. So, I guess I FINALLY own the bike that I've been riding for 6 or 7 years.
  20. I just took my new Time Out camper on it's maiden voyage today. Since this is my first trailer I still have alot to learn. The camper pulled great and I did'nt have any major problems. There was one thing that kept happening that I don't know how to correct. I stopped at several intersections and when I had to turn left or right from a stop the front of my RSV started to wobble slightly. When I straightened out it stopped wobbling. I had 30 pounds of tongue weight and I had put air in the rear shocks. I did'nt add any air to the front shocks. Anybody have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate it.

  22. A friend of mine that some of y'all know, Chris, who rides a Road Glide, called the other day and said "I ran into a friend of yours." Chris drives a Life Flight Helicopter out of Hugo Oklahoma; he works 15 days on and 15 days off. He commutes from Atlanta. He was on his way to work Saturday (a 12 hour trip) and called to say that he stopped in a little town in western Arkansas for a bite at a KFC. The grilled chicken hasn't made it that far west, by the way. This town was so small that he said the WalMart should have a historic plaque proclaiming it the smallest WalMart in the world. As he pulled in and parked for some yard bird, 2 bikes pulled in. One was a Harley and the other was a Kawasaki Voyager. He said he parked and walked in as the bikes went around and stopped on the other side. He walked thru' and out the other side and said to the Kawi rider "You sure are an ugly old fart!". He said Lowell looked at him like "I know you but can't call your name", that was ok 'cause Chris couldn't remember LA's name either. They spent about a 1/2 hour having lunch and talkin' (read: telling lies! ). It sure is a small world when two friends can meet by accident at a Colonel Buckets hundreds of miles from their respective homes!!! The Ambassador is on the road again!
  23. In my job we are always hearing all kinds of stories from convicts. I didn't hear all of this one but was walking past a group of Cons on the yard the other day when I overheard this. "And they had this cat called Yammer Dan, now that dude just wasn't wrapped too tight." Thats all I heard as they stopped talking when the "Police" got close. I did go look him up and he is from the area I used to hang out in. I have had my name since 1973 given to me by some folks I used to run with. No one inside the Prison knows this name. ( I don't think.) I don't remember the convict he is quite a bit younger than me but it almost stopped me in my tracks. Must have been sombody else.
  24. Well, Took the GW out for a couple hundred mile jaunt and was just enjoying the day, no cares, no worries all two lanes. Pulled away from a Stop sign accellerated and got to about 3rd gear and met a Trooper. I had been crusing at 57 - 60 all day long and as I met him I had let off to shift on up and hit the cruise well he turned around stopped me for going 63 in a 55????!! I ride with many troopers and most all have said if I ride 9 and under the speed limit no problems. Well he siad they were given a directive to slow down Motorcycles, to which I said what about all the cars tring to kill us, he laughed and said them too. A whole speeding spring campaign. Nice guy just gave me a warning. Any way if you ride IL roads better take it easy,
  25. One of my speakers was shot on my 90, so I replaced them with a new set. I got everything back together and the radio was working great. A few days later I went for a several hour ride and again the radio was working great. But after I pulled the bike into the garage the radio just stopped working along with the cassette and CB. I checked all the fuses under the battery cover and they were all good. Is there a hidden fuse somewhere else that I should check? Or is there a wire that might have come loose? Thanks, Al
