  1. I was so excited! Had gotten my Carbtune Pro, read up on synchronization in the tech forums, (thank you Freebird and Kenneth Branton (Kbran)) Printed out the directions, gotten my camera, and figured a 15 minute project at best! Found the screws that needed adjusting for 1&2. Wait a minute my screwdriver does not reach! Went back to the directions. Yep right there it says... "a long #2 Phillips screwdriver... . OH! you mean a LONG #2 Phillips screwdriver!, DA!! Spent the next hour driving around and finally purchasing a long #2x8 inch Phillips screwdriver! Back to the bike 15 minutes later project done!! See, size really does matter!
  2. I need help, I stopped at 2 places and they couldn`t cross reference this oil Filter for my Cub Cadet.. # KH2505025 It is about the size of a car filter and is on a Kohler motor. Any help would be great!! Thanks
  3. Round 5 of the St. Jude Auctions are now posted. Please note these auctions have specific sized t shirts. I am out of the Large shirts so all that is left is X Large and XX Large..........There is 1 of each size posted with other items included. Thanks for support this effort. The Kids at St Jude will benefit greatly from this effort.
  4. So I have decided to remove the passenger seat and pillion. I don't do any 2 up since my wife is deathly afraid of motorcylces. I was originally going to get the rear fender rack, but wanted to avoid more chrome (I know, I know, bikes are supposed to have chrome) because I like the look of the black and I think chrome take away from it (IMHO). So after some thought and inputs from my wife, I came up with a new idea. Had a piece of 3/8 smoked plexiglass from an old stereo cabinet in my collection of stuff I never throw out. Took some measurements, did a little online research and came up with a plan. I cut the piece to size, sanded and buffed all the scratches out. Cleaned up the edges and then warmed up the piece in the oven at 270 for 30 min (did some test pieces to figure out the right time). Took the warm piece to the covered fender and molded it to fit. After it cooled, I drilled out the holes, put some spacers in. I couldn't find the right size screw for the back and Home Depot, have to try another place. Below is the end result. Total cost, $3.75 in spacers and screws. Next step is to get the "STAR" laser engraved on the back. Should look good.
  5. going to the darkside! what size is best for those that have ran them? 2005 rsv what i`ll go on. thanks
  6. Would it be to simplistic to assume that foot pegs for Mk1's and Mk2's are interchangeable?? Is the shift linkage that is used with the boards usable with pegs or is that a different size? What would be a fair price for a set in good condition (w/o shift link)? thanks!
  7. Try this on for size http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20090113/best_job_090113/20090113?hub=TopStories
  8. I just ordered a set of these for my bike, they now offer the correct front size for the Venture. just thought everyone would want to know!! Ride Safe! Twowheelonly (Stew)
  9. Anybody know what size speed bleeders are used for the RSTD or Ventures 2nd Gens? Dan, I called company and their not sure of size of bleeders. Got to call them back.
  10. I was doing a little surfing and decided to check out the some netbooks. Dang, they're right up there with full size laptops now. The Asus Eee 904HA has 1gb of memory, 160gb HD, a 95% size keyboard, 8.9" screen, up to 7.5 hours of battery lifehttp://www.twtex.com/forums/images/smilies/eek2.gif , for the low, low price of 349 bux shipped from NewEgg. A 2gb stick of memory is only 25 bux, so I would upgrade that immediately. Any reason why this would not be a good deal? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220442 http://gadgetmix.com/index/?tag=asus-eee-904ha-review
  11. Here is a new "Rhino tire" jell they spray into your tire. Got a cool video with a motorcycle,,,,,, OK it's really a crotch rocket. They sell the tires pre-sprayed. I looked up the ones for my RSV > AM41 VENOM FRONT AV-323 SIZE & RATING: 150/80H 16 BLK 204.95 AM42 VENOM REAR AV-336 SIZE & RATING: 150/90HB 15 BLK - (Reinforced, Bias belted) 210.95
  12. I am in the process of rebuilding the carbs on my 84. It seems that the PO did not pay attention to the proper placement of the pilot air jet, the deceleration jet and the main fuel jet, all of which are interchangeable, except for the size. Can someone steer me as to which jet goes where? I am not sure of the exact sizes, the stamping is not that great, but I think I have 80,117.5 and 170.
  13. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/parts/home.aspx #5 0n bottom picture..I have one missing and will need to pick one up in the morning, will be in a hurry so I dont want to have to guess at the size? I looked and mine is missing and Im usually good at keeping all bolts etc tight..Guess I missed this one.I checked to see if it was broke in there but it isnt. Thanks,Tom
  14. My "what are the differences" post has kind of splintered off to talk of tires so I thought I would start a new thread about tires for gen 1 ventures. I have a 1989 VR and the existing size tires are Front 120/90-18, and Rear 140/90-16. I have searched the site and haven't found the definitive answers I've been looking for so I'll pose them here. 1. Where is the best place to buy tires (best, not necessarily the cheapest)? I'm not afraid to install the tires, and I'm not afraid of shopping online either. 2. I have decided to go with the Dunlop elite 3, but I can't find a vendor that lists the 140/90-16 online. Is there another size that firts correctly? Southwest Moto doesn't list the size tires I need in the elite 3 model. 3. From what I have read and found there isn't an Elite 3 in a 120/90-18 size for the front so what is the best option? Pirelli, Dunlop 404, or Avon (if Avon what is the correct size, and tire model name?) I am a rookie to street bikes, therefore I do not anticipate being too aggressive on the road. With this in mind, I don't need the "ultimate" performance tires, but I do want good solid tires. If possible lay this out like I'm 3 years old, and don't know diddly about purchasing a tire. Thanks for the help! Chris
  15. Hi. I am wondering if anyone knows how I can find out a bolt size, thread size, etc. The part number is 90153-10015-00 and it is the fill plug from my rear brake reservoir... I took it out this evening, and dropped it when it came out of the hole... can't find the dang thing anywhere! Thanks!
  16. In shopping for a used saddle bag on ebay for my 05' RSTD I find a few for the Venture. Are they the same as the RSTD? I am looking for a right hand bag. Really just need the tub as all the rest of the parts are still good. Just not sure if they are the same size since the Venture is much more outfitted. Are there any major differences in various years? Thanks.
  17. We all complain about not enough power, not enough leg room, too cramped...etc., etc. This might be the answer. The Gunbus 410 cubic inch V-Twin motorcycles complete. The monster engine placed in a motorcycle frame of comparable size looked impossible and many who saw the photos were skeptical of the bike ever being finished but I guess Clemens F. Leonhardt is one of those persistent guys who ignores the naysayers and keeps at his work. The fuel injected, 45 degree 6728 cc / 410 cubic inch V-Twin runs through a 3-speed transmission with reverse and actually looks pretty good in its finished state compared to the initial photos. In fact, everything looks good. It puts out 523 foot pounds of torque. Seat height is 31.5 inches and overall length is 136 inches. It is a little heavy at 1433 pounds so high-speed corner carving might be an issue and there aren't any photos of the big bike on the road so I guess we'll have to wait for the road test; that is if someone can actually road test this monster. This is actually going to go into limited series production and a sidecar will be available as well which might help with balance when waiting at a light. I don't even want to think about a driveway tip-over. I think this is great! Now, where's the video? What can I say? Bragging rights? You bet! Grin factor? 100%! Pucker factor? Off the charts!!!! LOL! I want one!!
  18. Ok ... finally got around to pulling the bike apart to check the u-joint. Got the rear wheel and final drive off. Can't get the swingarm off because the nuts are too big. The biggest socket I have is 27 mm bought for the rear axle. I will have to go buy a larger socket for the swingarm and, from the look of things, a large hex key socket to fit my torque wrench. Can anyone tell me what size both of these are ? I can't find the size in the service manual. Stores are closed here today so I guess I will have to finish the job later. Thanks in advance.
  19. On the board that I frequent the most (http://forums.chisham.com/index.php?sid=a338a00368d0b5e52b68cc54ab3bc5ad Tubenet) many of us old timers are constantly bombarded by the constant repetetive posts made about things relating to tubas. Which is a better finish, lacquer or silver plate? Which mouthpiece is better? Which key is better? And what about the valves? Are pistons better than rotors? Such is the life of a tuba junkie. I'm honestly trying not to clutter this fine board with the same type of repetative newbie questions, but in searching the previous posts I'm still not gleaning all the information I'm looking for. So I ask your patience as I stumble about the board. I'm going to need to replace my existing front tire soon. How soon, I don't know. I've not ridden in 30 years and when I did ride regularly I never rode often enough to justify replacing a front tire. Here's what I currently have on my 84 VR. Front: Metzler ME880 Marathon 120/90B 18 M/C 65H Rear: Dunlop 491 Elite II MU 90 B16 78H So far, both tires seem to be doing everything I need them to do. As I'm driving ultra-conservatively (as if the road were covered in grease), I'm not pushing the bike hard through curves or throwing it around like I'm on a race course. I've had to ride in the rain a few times and they seem to do amazingly well to me. My motorcycle tire knowledge is only 30 years out of date, so I'm having to learn everything anew. I've read that Avons are the way to go, but then in other posts I read that Avons on the front don't always perform well on 1st Gen VR's. As for the type of riding I do, I bought the bike to use as a daily driver to and from work. My speeds seldom get over 45 MPH unless I get brave and hit the highway if I'm in a hurry. I do not plan on traveling on this bike, That's what I bought the big Dodge quad-cab for. However I would like to take the occaisional trip to Palo Duro Canyon every once in a while. Long tire life is of course desireable as I don't want to have to stick a new tire on every year. It's gotta stick to the road, I don't like falling down. I understand the complexities of selecting a tire that's too hard of a compound. What say ye? Would an Avon be the way to go or should I go with a Dunlop? Another thing I need to ask about is tire size. Back in the olden days, I would often replace the original rear tire with the widest tire I could possibly fit on the rim without scraping the swingarm. Are there any benefits to selecting a different size tire other than what the recommended size is? And what about radials? I honestly didn't know there was such a thing for motorcycle tires, I thought all that existed were bias tires. Pros and cons? Thanks y'all!
  20. I am about to get new tires on my 06 and was wondering if there is anything I should know about recommended size and actual size. What the dealer recommends is one thing but you guys are the fully qualified testers. I have read that some used a smaller tire in the front for handling. What size should I use front? And back? Thanks
  21. In the few short weeks I've been a member here, I've learned about many things I previously never knew regarding my Venture. Included in that category are items which make the trip more comfortable. A few days ago, I read a thread about seat covers in this Bike Accessories section. I happened to be near my local IKEA yesterday and went in to take a look at the sheepskin pelts talked about in the previous thread. They have two sizes and two colors (white and gray). The larger size is $40 and the smaller is $20. The larger size is the perfect fit to cover the venture seat, front to back and perfectly drapes over the sides just enough. I took off the top bracket of my Utopia backrest and made measurements for a slit. A few seconds later after a slit from an exacto knife, the base nub of the backrest poked through and I re-attached the top. Looks good. In the back, I tucked the couple of inches of leftover material between the seat and the trunk. Seems nice and tight. Between me sitting on it, the backrest keeping it in place, tucking it in and either luggage or my girlfriend sitting on the rear seat, I think it's pretty secure. I am heading out for a ride shortly and I'll let you know if I notice an increase in comfort and how well it worked.
  22. I am having the tires replaced this week and want to install a 90 degress stem on the front. Where can I get one and what size will I need? Bug
  23. 83 Venture Royale. I would like to replace the battery with a new sealed gel type. Can it be done so that the battery fluid low indicator is not showing all the time???? Has anyone ever done this before? The probe that goes down into the battery has never been the right size since the battery was replaced a few years ago. The probe is smaller than the cap that you take off to install the probe so is there any way to just remove the probe and to turn off the indicator on the display???????
  24. Columbo

    Tires

I was talking with someone about my 2005 RSV which I think is top heavy, (love the bike)and they told me that if I was to change the front tire to a smaller size it would handle better. Can someone give me some info on this subject. Thanks !
  25. I have to trailer a 1st gen next weekend and I need to know the front tire width to ensure I have the correct size wheel chock. Semper Fi, Jerry
