  1. I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this company's rear shock. I was searching around on the Internet and found that this company builds a shock that fits the Royal Star Venture. I wrote there U.S. dealer, Dave Quinn motorcycles in Conn. and promptly received this reply. Happy to help. Hagon makes shocks for 98 and up 1300 Venture Star with VIN prefix XVZ13TF or 4XY. Currently out of stock, can easily get, 2-4 weeks. Cost is $394 plus UPS at cost to you which will vary depending on your zip code. 'Off-the-shelf' shocks are assembled for an average rider- there is enough adjustability in the stock shock to cover a wide range of loading. It would be useful to know your weight, and whether you carry passengers (% of time? Passenger weight?) or luggage (saddlebags? tank bag? top box? loading in each?) and what your maximum loading (passenger/luggage) is likely to be. If Hagons determine that your loading exceeds the design parameters of the shock, they can supply to special order a shock with an uprated spring. Conversely if you are very light, Hagons can for some shocks supply a lighter spring. Softer and harder springs are available as custom built units only for $464 and will take between 4 and 6 weeks to get here. Shocks are also available to special order with a remote hydraulic spring preload adjuster- $554 for a stock spec shock and $624 for an upgraded spring model. Hagon monoshocks are fully rebuildable and feature straight weight spring with adjustable spring preload (threaded manual or hydraulic remote adjuster), adjustable 15 position LINKED compression and rebound damping (one adjuster for both) and a two year unlimited mileage warranty against failure due to manufacturing defect. Bent shocks due to accident, impact, dropped bike, improper installation or owner malfunction will not be warranteed. Shocks are not returnable once they have been fitted. All adjusting tools are included with the shock. You can see representative Hagon monoshocks online at http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/HAGON_MONOSHOCKS.html Shipping and insurance will be charged at cost and will vary depending on what you order, your zip code and any fuel surcharges in effect on the day your order ships. We ship by UPS in the continental USA, by Priority Mail to AK and HI and by US Mail Express International outside of the USA. For special orders we ask for a 50% good faith deposit when Hagons accept the order, with the balance due when we ship. Please note- Special orders are not returnable unless found to be defective. If you're interested in ordering, we accept VISA & Mastercard; we need: -name as it appears on your credit card -daytime phone number -billing address for the card -ship-to address if different -card number -expiration date. Call or Fax if you are uneasy about emailing credit card details. Let me know if I can offer you any other information. 2. Hi guys, Happy New Year.. what better way to spend the evening than in the garage working on the bikes eh? (gosh I need to get a life!!) My new shiny WORKS Performance shock finally arrived today and wow, it's real purty! Almost too purty to mount it under a bike. Its all preloaded and ready to go. Though I'm mechanically inclined and have all the tools to install this shock, is there something out of the ordinary or 'don't forget to do this' notes I should do to install this shock properly and such? Oops, just read through the manual and looks like i have to pull the rear wheel, bags, fender and pipes to change the shock?! Ouch.. is this true? Thanks in advance for any advice or comments Cheers
  3. Any suggestions on where to look to buy a Zero to 30 PSI hand pump for the front fork air suspension. Most places seem to be high $ for the Progressive pump. I do the rear shock by starting up my compressor, running it up to 45 PSI and shutting it off. Then I fill the rear shock until the pressure is balanced between the shock and the compressor.
  4. I bought my own xmas gift today. Had to replace that rear shock because it was getting a bit sloppie going into the corners. After doing my research within most of you are staying away from the yamaha product and going with the company "Shock". I called 1-818-701-1010 and talked with Tom. He provided me the VentureRider 10% discount and said it should be about 2-3 weeks at a cost of $ 620.00. Thanks for the info.
  5. Yea!! Got my new Works Shock yesterday, mailed them my Bank Money Order on Dec.3 and received the shock on the 16th. pretty good turn around I think!! Now I just need to pick a week end to install it, looking like next week though, just have to much going on to do it this week end..but can`t wait to see how it rides.
  6. Any one know if Works offers a club discount to Venture Riders Org.? Gonna order a new shock tomorrow and trying to get over sticker shock....
  7. I was looking for another rear shock for the bike and have found that Hagon Shocks make on for our bikes. They had some inventory and numbering issues so I did not end up with one but will order one next time I need to replace mine. They appear to be similar to the Works shock (coilover) and their price is $399. and I believe that is delivered. They were very nice to work with even with the part mix up. Here is his response after receiving my old shock. As I said, I do not have it on my bike so I can not report on it ride quality but these are also rebuildable. "I have measured your shock and confirmed we have an application for your Royal Star Venture.Part # is M62097.The length is 256mm/12mm x30mm top mount/12mmx37mm lower fork fitting. We have ordered one for our stock now." 8. I can't take it anymore. My 2001 RSV needs a new rear shock badly. I see a Works shock on ebay for $689. Is there any place cheaper? I am really not interested in an OEM replacement due to their very short lives, but if one could be had for half of a Works shock, I would be tempted. Any other alternative air shocks?
  9. Has anyone found a decent alternative to replace the stock rear shock on the RS Venture? This is the third one to go on me.
  10. Good Afternoon All, How much play should the top rear shock bolt have in it? I decided to inspect the swing-arm assembly before I start to put her back together, and discovered play when I raise the swing-arm up and down. Is there a bushing in there that can be worn out already, or is this normal. I would guess it is probably somewhere between 1/32nd and 1/16th of an inch, and appears to be concentrated on the top rear shock connection. Have any of you experienced this?
  11. I have a 08 venture and I am starting to feel a wobble in the front and more so at lower speeds. I am going to have to replace the tire by the end of the season since it has 15000 miles on it now and starting to look like it. I'm taking it in to the dealer and have them look at it but I like to be prepared for them to look at things. I also would like to know how you know if the rear shock is bad? The rear end is feeling funny and it feels like the rear tire slips and has a few time and it's a E3 with only 8000 miles on it. The queen says she thinks it rides different but can't put her finger on it. Thanks for any info:95:
  12. Can some tell me how to remove the shock on an 03 RSV.

    Shock replacement ideas

I think I've found my new (to me) RSV - its raspberry and champagne colors are beautiful, the frame is straight, the electronics all seem to work, and the finish is in perfect shape. It has Avon tires that I will double check for cracks, and a totaled rear shock. I will not accept the bike from the dealer as is, but is there something better than a Yamaha shock? Is there a major price difference? Should I insist on the aftermarket item, or is it just as good as the stock one. Anybody??????????
  14. Where is gunkylump and Beth? Did the Texas wind take them away? Haven't heard from ya's in a day or two. Hope all is well. I met up with Ian on the Canadian side this morning. I have his old shock now. Give us a heads up on how your doing Gunk.
  15. egads.. I had my rear shock replaced under warranty last summer and after this long run discovered the dang thing has crapped out.. Comparing it to a couple of other RSV, I stand on the right side of the bike and press down on the rear seat, mine will spring down and up smoothly while the other two have a heck of a lot more resistance to the downward push than mine does.. This is how the tech showed me my shock was dead when he suggested a warranty replacement (a quick test he says).. So though my shock holds air pressure, there is no resistance to it.. and I do not recall ever finding a puddle of oil under the bike nor can I notice any oil dirt on the bottom of the shock.. I ride a lot in the rain, so wonder if that washed a lot of it off? The bike handles the bumps well enough but I noticed lately that the bile wallows in bumpy long curving turns at high speeds.. I can anticipate it and not find it scary though someone not expecting this on their bike might well panic. Anyway, now that the bike is officially out of warranty as of last month (shyte timing huh?) I need to figure out what best to do.. I doubt I'll want to order another whimpy $900 Yamaha shock which will most likely go bunky in a year.. what choices do I have? I'm having my front forks serviced later this month and was contemplating on having a set of progressive springs installed. I have them in my VStar and love the stiffness and lack of nose dive when attack sharp corners or abrupt stopping. It has a nice spring rate.. Has anyone tried these on their RSV yet? Anyhoo... lemme know what you think.. Cheers
  16. To those of you who ride the more beautiful and nimble of the Venture lineup, I ask this question. The manual states that lone rider rear shock pressure should be 14 psi. Add a passenger or cargo (not both) then the psi jumps to 42 for the rear. My dilemma is that I don't have a compressor on board (removed before I bought the bike and never replaced) so I have the rear shock psi set to 30. I also have damper set to 2. I do this in case I pick up a passenger unexpectedly. I am interested in your thoughts on this and if you think there may be a better way to do this. Thanks in advance, Thomas
  17. Does anyone have a rear shock off of a 2nd Gen. they would like to send me? I do some work for Gabriel North America Ride Control. They make many shocks for cars, trucks, quads, snowmobiles, you name it. I deal with the head Engineer. I would like to take a shock into him for some research on our problem we have. My shock is still good or I would take it. They have so many different designs that I am thinking they may have one close to the kind we need and maybe able to change the mounting hardware so that we could use it. I would let him know of all the problems that we have with the original and see what he comes up with. I am sure this shock would be cut away for them to see the internal workings. It would be of no use to anyone anymore. Just a thought. Any takers?
  18. Had a great ride to Sturgis but after I got there the seal on the shock died and dumped the oil. I think it was the age and the heat that killed it (99 RSV). So now is the question, do I buy a Yamaha factory replacement, the Ebay coilover or the the coilover from a company from UK ( Hagon Shocks). The Hagon shocks are preload adjustable and a 25 click dampening user adjustable for $399 (plus shipping). Has anyone heard of Hagon Shocks? Thanks, Wayde:95:
  19. Does anyone know what the failure rate is for the rear shock on the 2nd gen ventures? I have a 2004 with 30000 kms on it and the rear shock is leaking oil. Any and all advice is appreciated! Cheers!
  20. Good friend called yesterday. He and his wife stopped for gas not far from home. When he got back on the RSV it sounded like a goose underneath everytime he bounce on the seat. I asked him if it felt like a pogo stick, but that wasn't the case. I told him that I was 99% sure his mono shock gave up the ghost. He is taking it to the dealer for warranty. Whatcha think?
  21. I'm getting ready to make some leveling links and got to thinking about the reports of the shock going bad. Has anyone had the links on when it failed? Did Yamaha have any issues covering the shock under warranty? Maybe I should put the stock links back on before sending it to the shop if/when the shock fails?
  22. I am tired of putting a stick under the lid for my HF x-cargo trailer when I want to load or unload. What is the right type of shock to buy and how do I mount them? Iowa Guy
  23. I have a 99 RSV, yesterday the tail end started bouncing up and down like an old Chevy pick-up with just leaf springs... It's holding air OK, so I am assuming I have an oil leak...as the boot is covered with what looks to be old dirty oil. Can the rear mono shock be rebuilt? Does anyone have one(good one) reasonably priced? By reasonable I mean...the dealer here want $718...I want to spend a lot less. Any help about how to fix it or locate a decent priced replacement would be greatly appreciated...
  24. Two years ago I put a set of stebal air horns on. I just got it back from the shop to replace the shock and the horn on the right I did not like the way they had it mounted, they had to remove it to get to the shock. So I was going to move it to where I wanted it and the bolt holding the horn came loose. So I had to unplug the wires to remount it and one of the wires drooped on the exhaust pipe and sparked and now neither air horn works. I replaced the relay nothing, the stock front horn works but not the rear horn. I did run separate fuses for each air horn, both look good. what do I need to check to get them to work? Have the horns attached to passenger floorboards. tew47
