  1. I am looking at a Yamaha Head set on e-bay. Package shows it is a Yamaha Product. The seller says it is a 6 pin din connector. I have a 2006 RSV and the info I have says my connecting receptical is a 5 pin. Anyone know if this will item will work on my bike? Thanks in advance for any info
  2. It's back! I installed the heavy brace which reduced the wobble, changed the front tire and it was basically gone Except for one small instance where I felt it ever so lightly. Now it's back. I've made some adjustments on the sidecar and need to correct the tracking but other then that No changes were made structurally. While out riding yesterday i had the great idea to give a quick tug on the handlebar, which immediately set off a brief wobble, but it also felt like there was a click when I tugged. Probably should have tugged on the right side too to see if the result was the same but didn't. Steering head??
  3. I finally came up with a solution to having a fully modern setup for the bike. I did not want wires and I dont need CB. I do need to be ablet ot talk to the wife, take a cellphone call, and listen to music+GPS instructions. I landed on the Scala Rider Q2 multiset. for the helmets. $250. at most amazon.com retailers. This gives me headsets that will talk to my Phone and each other for intercom. bonus the wife can connect to her own phone and chat away on the back of the bike to whoever she wants to call without bugging me. I needed GPS and my ipod, wanting to stay wireless I came up with an idea. I need to mix 2 audio sources... so I need to make the following cable.... input 1 is the ipod, input 2 is the GPS. hook them to a FM transmitter for an ipod. Now set your volumes and you are almost all set. All I need to do is to set the scala Q2's to that FM channel and it's all done. Stereo sound, GPS alerts, Intercom and Cellphone. This allows me to use a cheap GPS, plus a cheap mp3 player or ipod with the wireless control on the handlebar. Far less than the cost of a used bluetooth GPS and near the price of a new set of headsets for the bike. Plus I get current technology instead of 1983 technology and best of all.... no wires for the wife to forget to disconnect and rip out a connector.
  4. I finally installed my gauge set from Ponch. The actual install went pretty smooth, and took me about 5 hours. My hat is off to Ponch for his great work on this kit. First, I didn't want my needles to be orange, so I decided to disassemble the gauges and paint the needles black. This turned out to be a hassle, but I prevailed. Upon taking them apart, I broke one of the glasses. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3819.jpg You can't buy the glass by itself, nor did I want to purchase another set of gauges, so I went to Lowe's and bought a small sheet of glass, and a glass cutter. It wasn't easy to do, but I did it, and you can't tell the difference. Here are the gauges after I painted them. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3821.jpg Here are some pics from the install. I won't go into all of the details, as several writeups have already been posted here. Yes, cutting the dash has a pretty large pucker factor...lol. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3822.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3824.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3825.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3827.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3828.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3830.jpg So far, I have no leaks, and everything is working great! Thanks again to Ponch, for making it easier. I made one additional mod that I really had to think about, before cutting another hole, but I went ahead and did it... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3831.jpg
  5. I know a lot of you are "older" (like me) so there's a good chance many of you have dentures (like me). In fact, I've had dentures (uppers and lowers) since I was 23 yrs old. I'm 28 years into my second set (pretty good by most standards). Up until about 3 years ago, they've fitted pretty good. The first set lasted about 5 years before the fit started deteriorating. Anyhoo... I HATE spending tons of money at the dental mechanic's for a re-line so I've been using a product called Sea-Bond Denturite http://www.dentist.net/sea-bond-denturite.asp to reline my dentures. I love this product ... it does a great job and lasts about 2 months. Anyway, all of a sudden none of the places I normally found it carry it anymore .... it's like it's just not available. If I can't find this product, I'm doomed! ... it will mean I have to go to the dental mechanic and have them re-do my dentures (too old to re-line according to them) to the tune of a few thousand dollars. Anyone else experiencing my dilemma? Got any suggestions?
  6. I know this has been batted around a little in the past, but I am wanting to convert my 83 engine with an 86 gear set in it to a 2nd gen gearset with wider spaced gears. I also want to go to a V-Max rear-end. I believe this would be the optimum setup for a 1st gen. It would give me a lower 1st gear with the V-Max rear and still have a better highway gear at 65mph. But, I am not sure the set would be a direct drop in like going from the 83 to 86 was. I may have the opportunity to pick one up and was just wanting to know if anyone knows why it would not work. RandyA
  7. Hey Randy are you going after that gear set??
  8. Finally got a pretty Saturday to take the bike out and get the riding itch out of my britches. I've done a bunch of work on the bike over the winter and RandyA came over and helped me with carb diaphragms and lower in the needles. This is just my first impression of the improvement in performance, but SON OF A ______!!!! That puppy is fast now, I can't believe how much better it runs. Thanks Randy, you set me up right! Here are some pics of the bike now that I've worked on her for the past 3 months. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/PICT0014.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/PICT0016.jpg Randy, I believe I owe you a few more beers. Whoo Hooo!!!!
  9. I'm attaching a pic from one of my current shocks on the sidecar, I need to replace/upgrade these puppies so the wheel will not wear a hole in the sidecar floor (this is a leaner with the wheel centered under the rider's rear). As you can see on the attached pic this shock is 13" O.C. +/-. The shock is also agled about 60 degrees so dampening is diminished. I know that getting a longer shock will give me more clearance. So, unless anyone here has a good set they want to part with that would fit my needs, I will be shopping on E-Bay, what can you tell me I should look for so I don't wind up wasting my money on something way too light for my needs? Or would i be better of to just get a new set?
  10. I can activate cruise and on light stays on, push set switch and set lights stays on, as they both should. Let go of throttle and cruise is actually not on. Tried at different speeds from 45 up to 65 to no avail. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. PGR, PC, FL
  11. Looking for set of mufflers for 1988 venture, found holes at the connection point of the muffler & tips...she won't pass state inspection.... Anyone have a set in the corner of their garage we could work out a deal.... cimack77

  13. O.K. I got the gauge set I bought from Ponch all hooked up now and so far it don't leak. Well after I tightened it down some more. I do have a few questions for those of you that have it. By the way I love the looks. My oil gauge reads almost zero at adle but reads 40psi at 40 mph and 60psi at 60 or higher speeds. the amp gauge reads a little over 12 at idle but will move up to about 14amps at 50 or better mph. Temperature goes up to about 190 or so after about 15 minutes of riding time. Are all of these normal or within range for the VENTURE???...............Ron
  14. I have a 1989 Venture Royale. I’ve had in now for about 8 years and its been a good bike. Last fall the cruise control started acting up. Now when I set the cruise it will always drop about 8-10mph from where I set it. Also it intermittently turns off the cruise. I’ve checked the switch on the clutch and break levers and they seem to be ok. I’ve also held the clutch and break levers out with the cruise set and it still cuts out. Also a bad switch doesn’t explain why the cruise drops 8-10mph from where I set it. Both these problems occurred at the same time just all of a sudden. Any suggestions? I appreciate any help. Thanks
  15. I've ordered several sets of tires from Southwest Moto Tire over the years and have always been pleased with the price and the service. In anticipation of needing a new set before our trip this summer I thought I would order a set while I'm here in San Diego so I'd have them ready. Ordered yesterday morning and they arrived this afternoon. Here's a pic of me hauling them over to my trailer.

  18. This is the latest in surgical Meccano
  19. Let me get this right I just plug in the head set and the rest is already built into my midnite venture
  20. Where do I find a gauge pod like the one that sold in the classifieds? That’s just what I am looking for to mount a tach and clock to go with the gauge set I’m getting from Ponch for the dash...............Ron Gauge Pod for 2nd Gen with tach and voltmeter
  21. I've spent a fair amount of time putting Christmas presents on the bike and I spend more than half my time looking for metric tools. It seems, everything I have now is American Standard. I am looking for an affordable ($100 or less) metric tool set that I can use and keep in the motorcycle. Has anyone found a good deal on one or reccommend something that fits the use of the RSV? Ben
  22. Anybody have a set of Baron 4-2-4s that can take a pic of a baffle? Even a description would be a lot of help. I picked up a set of used 4-2-4s last fall. They look great on the bike, but there's one small problem. No baffles. Yowie zowie, those things are loud! There's no way Irene and I can go touring with straight pipes and hear ourselves think five minutes into the ride, much less at the end of the day. I cut off a set of "standard" baffles so they'd fit and added wire extensions that run up into the pipes. I wrapped those with packing material. Now the sound is satisfactory, nearly stock in fact, but I'm afraid I have too much back pressure. I'm considering taking them out and reworking the packing material for more exhaust flow. A little more sound would be ok too. I'm basically wondering if I'm going in the right direction. Can anyone offer any guidance?
  23. OK, who wants to get together in the Dallas/Fort Worth area sometime in January to check float levels and/or valves? I already have one guy who is interested, but we have not set a date yet - if there are two or three others, maybe we can find a date that works for everyone? Let me know if you are interested, Goose Another offer: If you just want someone to do the work, instead of learning how to do it yourself, I'll do that too. I'll set floats and idle mixture for $150, valves for $300, or both together with new plugs for $375 (plus any parts needed, such as gaskets).
  24. OK folks I set a date it can be changed but need a bit of input. I get a bit impatient waiting so I figured I'd go ahead and start. Now if it's ok we'll get started on planing this event. So please check the rally section (regional) and voice your opinion. I'll give it about a week and then I'll put the date on the calendar. Sorry I get a bit bossy must be from being the oldest. Plus I've been asked about when it will be and I know some folks need to get their dates in for vacation except for those folks that have vacation everyday. Margaret
  25. When I bought my bike, it had a set of Kuryakyn Dually ISO pegs (with offset) on it, along with a chrome/brushed looking cupholder, both which I removed when I got it home. The bike only had 8k miles on it, so the pegs are in great shape. On the bottom of one of the offsets near the clamp, there is a small scuff. It can be seen in the second 2 pics, of the bottoms of the pegs. It wasn't noticeable on the bike because it faces down. I'm really comfortable with my feet on the floorboards, and wear a full face helmet, so I don't ever plan to reinstall them. There are a few items I would like to add to the bike, so I was hoping someone here might like to do a trade for items of similar value. I'm definitely interested in handlebar risers, and also looking at lamp visors, the chrome trim for the front fender, and a good set of vacuum guages. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I couldn't put a price and don't know if the pegs fit 1st gens, so I'm trying my post here.
