  1. Helo: Does anyone in Cody have RSTD bars on a RSV that we could look at?
  2. I am out looking for a ram mount......that is the circumference of the handlebars? I have a 2011 RSV. I am not with my bike to measure it.
  3. Just wondering... what is the best motor oil (next change) for a high mileage RSV with approximately 100k?
  4. My new to me 99 RSV Trike.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/user/vystrcil?v=pJxOsYh12yY&feature=pyv&ad=9710386916&kw=motorcycle Like to see this done with a RSV. Is it even possible?
  6. Hello....I didn't know where to post these couple of Questions....so I chose here. I am thinking Of selling my '86 Kaw Vulcan 750 and purchasing a 99 - '04 RSV..... I love the Smoothness and reliability of the V-4 engine.....but I hate carbs.....so what kind of issues or problems have you folks had with your carbs. Are they pretty reliable? Do they stay in sync pretty well? Are parts for Mikuni 32's easy to get parts for? What about lowering options....The seat height is a little high for me....I am 5' 6". What other problem areas are there with the RSV. I am going to purchase one of these bikes next April. Thank you for any info that you may have for me.
  7. Got back Sunday evening from a long weekend in Wellsboro, PA with my riding group, using my new (to me) 2000 RSV. I only managed to get the bike on Thursday afternoon and we were leaving Friday morning, so I didn't have much time to get acquainted, as it were. I was impressed by the looks and finish, especially in that gorgeous red paint with the extra chrome accents the previous owner had added. First impressions? The Royale has better weather protection but the RSV has a much more solid feeling front end. The fork may be flexing but I don't feel it whereas there was a looser feel to the Royale fork even with the Progressive springs. The RSV is heavier, but thanks to a lower cg, it feels lighter at parking lot speeds and while maneuvering around using leg power (Important to us 98 pound weaklings, you know!). The fork on the RSV does , of course, have a tendency to want to "flop" at low speeds due to the weight of the fairing but I'm getting used to that. I did appreciate the auxiliary plug in the tape deck so that we could use our MP3 player. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the trip and found the RSV to be quite comfortable, so it looks like we get to do more touring. Once I've got the Royale put back together, it will be going up for sale. It's a nice bike, but after sampling both, I definitely prefer the RSV (Oh God, here come the howls of outrage from the first gen camp!). One thing I did miss was the lack of bag liners for the RSV (The Royale didn't have any either.). While we did get everything packed away, getting it all into the motel room was a bit annoying. I found three companies advertising liners for the RSV...Star Yamaha Accessories ($79.99 for three pieces), Bestem USA ($65.95 for three pieces) and TLC Products ($89.99 for three pieces). I checked out J.C. Whitney and noted a review mentioning a problem with the suggested bag liners being a bit short in height (Hopnel liners) which left an empty space at the top of the saddlebags ($40.00 for 2 saddlebag liners and $34.99 for a Harley Tour Pak trunk liner (As suggested by someone on this site)). Has anyone had experience with any of these liners? I really would like to use something other than the assortment of bags we used this time. Anything that makes life easier for my honey means more touring time! Andy
  8. Stopped to get gas today. I pulled up to the pump and there was a ford ranger at the pump in front of me. I turned off the ignition, Shirley dismounted as I removed the gas cap and set it where the key go's and pull my wallet out. As I'm fishing for the credit card the lady at the next pump decides she wants to look at the prices again, throws it in reverse and I'm taking a ride backwards. Shirley's yelling WOAH!!! I'm not sure what I was yelling, but I was. The only damage is to the front fender and it's toast. I guess it will have to go to the shop for an estimate so I'll be without the RSV for awhile. Hopefully the ins will let me do the work so I'll have it back on the road quicker, and I prefer to do my own work anyway. Normally this would not be a problem since I have a Honda VTX as well. But monday the piston vacuum in the carb decided to split so it's out of commision. Part is backorderd untill at least late next week. I guess I'll keep riding the RSV with a real ugly front fender untill I can get the Honda going. I can't stand the thought of not having a bike to ride. Do I call her ins or go through mine? I've wrecked bikes before but this is the first time someone else was involved.
  9. Just finished putting Harley Muffs on my 2009 RSV. Made my brackets, bought the wide clamps, spent 4 hours gently persuading the muffs on, cleaned them, put the bags back on and started the bike. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Could barely tell the difference. My wife says she can tell but wants it louder. I guess now I have to drill them out. By the way, I haven't seen anything in any of the threads on this subject that discusses the fibre exhaust gasket on the RSV that you have to distroy in order to put the Harley's on. If you use 1/4" aluminum to make your brackets, you will have to get 3/4" long bolts for the muffs as the 1/2" arent long enough. Best to get these before 10:00pm. I used Drag Specialties clamps and they cost $9.50 each and are available almost anywhere. Anyway, just my thoughts on this mod. This is the best site ever!! Thanks Freebird.
  10. Hey all, Love the site, except that it steals hours away from me as I spend too much time reading through years worth of very helpful threads. I picked up my 02 RSV about three weeks ago. After 1,500 miles I'm loving it more every day. My wife loves it at least as much as I. There is just one issue I'm hoping you folks can help with. The wife isn't enjoying the wind at highway speeds. According to her, she is getting knocked around a lot worse than she does on the back of my Volusia which only has a small shield to keep the wind off my chest. So here are the details. The shield on my RSV is 17inches tall and 23 wide. She is 5'8 and weighs about 105. I'm 5'7 and weigh a bit more than I should. She enjoys the very little wind on her legs (especially in the cold weather), but gets pounded on the upper body and head. I'm thinking that the wind is being deflected over\around me and directly into her. I ride as long as it is above 20 degrees. At that temp I find my lower back getting cold which further makes me think the wind is wrapping around me. The front of my body stays comfortable. Do other folks passengers experience such a rough time with the wind? Any suggestions on how to make the spouse's ride more comfortable? Thanks Muchly, Dan.
  11. 74k on my ’06 RSV and running great, but time was long past due for the valve adjustment. I have done all maintenance work in the past but the valve adjustment with shims and special tools seemed a little much for me, and wow, did I guess that right. After reading a post a week or so ago and seeing Muffinman’s comments I decided to give him a call and make an appointment to take my RSV to his place in NC. He was great, ordered new plugs, gasket set, fuel filter and he had the shims we were likely to need. He said something about color tuning and I said ‘what’s that” I balance the carbs my self. He said we should do it. What a difference. Here is the story, my RSV for the first 50K or so always went to reserve tank at 200 miles, like clock work, almost never varied more than a mile or two, last 10K or so it was looking for the reserve tank around 175 miles. Fuel mileage, was always 42-44mpg for the first 50K the started dropping to 38-42 lately. Well we did the valves, one intake tight by .001 and two exhaust open by .004, not bad enough to cause any damage yet, nor would I think any effect on mileage. The carb balance was off a little but not too bad, but the color tuning really made a change. Here is what we have now, noticeably more power in 2nd,3rd &4th and get this, mileage very, very carefully checked and getting 46.8 mpg, ½ of the mileage check was with two up and the other ½ solo. Now the bike was looking to go to reserve an 214 miles instead of 200 miles as when new, 175 miles lately. We spent a solid 6 hours, and we both worked, I don’t believe any one could do the job in less than 8 hr, Muffinman did a fabulous job and although a lot work I had a good time working with him, and I would say that unless your really good it’s not a job to mess with by your self, there are some parts that I doubt one would ever figure out with help. Great job, thanks Jeff
  12. We will be heading out soon for the Georgia area with the RV and RSV. Since the wife will not tent camp we like to take the RV to some state camp ground them hop on the RSV and ride from there to see the area. We might do an overnight in a hotel if the loop is more than a one day ride. Generally we haul the unigo with the 2 Border Terriers, they love to ride. We did 3k in the west last summer this way. I was hoping that I could get some suggestion on where to go in in the Southern mountains, we will end our trip with a stay at the Vogel event

    RSV Bars

I've got Baron's risers on my RSV and I'm not really loving the set-up. Yes, they do put the bars back where they're comfortable for me, but they allow the stock risers to flex too much for my liking. Has anybody got a longer reach aftermarket bar they would want to sell or maybe trade for my risers? I need about another inch or two of pullback.
  14. Went to look at a 2000 RSV today...only has 71,000 km on it ( about 44,000 mi.). It looks and runs like new, but there was a problem. The intercom didn't work. The radio plays through both headsets as did the CB when someone started using channel 6 nearby, but the intercom just wouldn't work. Switched headsets front to back and the same problem. I thought the radio and intercom shared an amp and therefore if one didn't work, the other one didn't either. Anyone have any ideas? The bike is gorgeous but my wife really wants the intercom...so she can make useful suggestions as we ride along!
  15. Who has this trike kit? how do you like it? any problems with handling? steering?drive train? fit and finish? I am looking at a 99 RSV with this kit. Any info would be very helpful.
  16. just wondering what the most miles you've ever seen on a V4. I know they've been around for a while. i've seen several wings over 250k. I purchased My 01 rsv back in march with 40K on it and I plan on keeping this bike for years to come.
  17. My wife and I were walking along Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco today and spotted this RSV parked wiht another bike. Just wondering if it belongs to anyone on the board. It was loaded for travelling. Dennis
  18. Just returned from Illinois with a 2008 RSV. Yamaha's are new to me as I've always been a GW rider until I got stupid and dumped mine off a 12 ft deep embankment, but I couldn't resist this bike when I found out it only had 1969 miles on it and the previous owner just needed to get out from under the payments. So far like a lot of posts I've read the biggest problem has been getting use to moving my feet forward instead of straight up. The other thing is the engine sounds a bit tinny to me compared to the 6 cyl wing, and doesn't have near the power. Other then those minor changes I love my RSV. I'll be making some changes to the lighting as soon as my pocketbook allows and possibly a seat upgrade. Thanks to everyone who has posted what they've done to improve this great machine. Hope to meet some other RSV riders who live around the DFW area. Until then keep the shiny side up. Jim
  19. I bought a 2011 RSV over a month ago and have not recieved my Star Branded ipod touch. Has anyone else that bought a 2011 RSV received theirs? If I don't receive any responses from this forum I will call Yamaha in California to see what the hold up is. I now have over 1000 miles on the RSV and can't ride it enough. It is such a joy to ride after riding an FJR and a Concours 14 the last 4 years. The palms of my hands are no longer sore from having to ride with my weight on my palms. The RSV is such a comfortable bike to ride! I should have bought the 1999 model that I first fell in love with so many years ago.
  20. Hey All, went on a couple rides last weekend, put on about 550 miles on the Heritage. On a Group Ride yesturday of 300 miles we stopped at a DQ. One of riders asked Charlene and I how we liked the Heritage: Charlene said, No Room to move around, so tight I won't go anywhere. I said, "To be Honest, it is no Yamaha Venture". I could ride all day on the RSV, but after a 100 miles I am sore on the Heritage. Even put a signature series seat on the Heritage, but no help. With my back problems the weight of the Heritage is all I can handle, especially two up. Now don't get me wrong the Heritage has a lot of nice features, and the 105 year edition is a beautiful bike. But, I have always said the RSV is the best bike I have ever owned! Guess it is, what it is, but Sadly miss my "Sweet Thing" RSV. Later-
  21. In Utah for the next few months and have my 99 RSV with me from Kansas. Looking for other RSV riders here in Utah and hopefully hook up with some riders going to Cody. Gilligan
  22. Changed the oil on my new to me 08 Wing @ just over 2000 on the OD. What a PIA, having to remove the lower front fairing just to change the oil and is it tight down there. I'll still take the Wing over the RSV though, just for the more balanced feel. I'll be sending my seat to Rick to get the Butt Butler over this next winter I feel like I'm sliding forward or my pants are sliding backward, needs a little bit of a bucket carved out of it. There have been a couple of good reviews here and on one of the GW sites. I was pleased with the work he did on my RSV seat, just wish I was closer to TX. Just a little info and opinion. Jim
  23. I have been asked a number of times now about the retro design of the speedometer on our 2000 RSV (red - the best color). Do any of you know if it was modeled after any particular truck or automobile speedo from the 1950's?
  24. I'm going to take it that the EBC PART number FA123HH works on the second Gen RSTD read pads? I was been searching the forum and see thats what the RSV use.
  25. I really need to get rid of the heel portion of the shifter. I don't use, its in my way. Where can I find a single shifter for this '08 RSV?
