  1. Howdy. I'm ready to spend the cabbage and make my roadliner more tour-worthy. Having second thoughts, as there are great deals on the venture and rstd around... Has anyone switched over, or own both. You're feedback would be appreciated. Thanks Mike
  2. Looking to buy a set of highway pegs for my wife on back of my 05 RSTD. Anybody know if such a beast exists? Going for a ride to JP Cycle this afternoon when friend can escape work and need info to bring along. Thanks, God Bless and ride safe. Mike
  3. Looking for a custom aftermarket wheel for the front of my 06 RSTD. Does anybody know of anything that doesn't cost an arm plus a leg??? I have had mine chromed and it looks good, however I am now looking for something different. thanks, Jerry
  4. Has anyone installed a stereo. on a rstd. If so what type of speakers and where did they mount them. I would like to use my ipod for some tunes on the bike. I've seen some made by barrons. they just look a little big for my tastes. looking for something that looks good on the handle bars. thanks marty
  5. I would like to put a three pocket windshield pouch on my 07 RSTD. Has anyone put one on, and how did you mount it? Had a Harley one on my Venture (sold it with the bike). Looks like it would need to be mounted to the windshield bolts, but needs to rise upward a bit to miss the speedo. What does anyone have and how is it mounted?
  6. is there any other air filter for the rstd than yamaha and k-n ?????
  7. I tried finding this question through a search, but found nothing. What is the model number for the air filters for a RSTD? Fram or any other.... Honestly, can't get the K&N right now, so any other suggestions?
  8. A real nice guy from Charlotte NC bought my 05 RSTD. He is a fireman and he and his wife talked it over and decided the bike was for him. I am very happy that it is going to a good home. I told him about this site and sure hope that he joins us. I am going to miss the RSTD. I am working on the GW trying to make it as comfortable as the Tour Deluxe. I hope I am still welcome here.
  9. Let me start off by saying I used to own a 96 Royal Star Tour Classic. Except for power, I really did like the ride of that bike. Now, I own an 89 VR, and for short legged guys like me it is quite top heavy, but ride is OK. Recently I ran into a buddy of mine and he is now riding a 2006 RSTD and it looks sweet...so sweet I am considering looking at one. Especially since I got all the bugs worked out the 89 right? Everyone states that the 2nd gen Ventures are very top heavy. So, my question is this. Is the RSTD top heavy too? I thought they were basically the same bike, just more features? I sat on my buddies and it didn't feel top heavy but did not get to drive it. Does the fairing and rear trunk bag add that much upper weight? I sure would like to get opinions from the RSTD and 2nd gen riders. Thanks.
  10. where is a good place to take the camper and RSTD. for a week of riding. I would like to stay as close to home as possible due to fuel milage of the camper. the wife is not into highway traveling on the RSTD. North FL. or lower Ga. any ideas. thanks marty
  11. Picked up "Black Betty", a 2007 RSTD Midnight from the dealer yesterday. Since I have been lurking while looking for my bike, I had already decided to put the Road Star luggage rack on it instead of the flimsier looking (and more expensive) RSTD one. I have the rack but need some input from people that have done this. The rack's license plate mounting bracket seems to be about 1/8 of an inch (didn't measure) to long and when eyeballed with the seat bolt aligned extends past the license plate bracket. One post I read said it fit with "some manipulation". What sort of manipulation has anyone used to install this? okscott aka "Porkalope"
  12. I am 6ft2 260 and would like a more comfortible seat for my 2006 RSTD if their is one availibe.I have looked at Mustang seats but do you really get more comfort for the money.I would like to ride 3 hours witout my a$$ going numb.Suggestions would be appreciated.I like the looks of the Corbin but I heard they are rather firm.

    Just a few words...

Hi all, I have not been an active member of this group, but I have been impressed with your great sense of comradery and spirit. Proof of this is found in the tremendous activity and discussion on and off the board. I thank Freebird for his kindness during my ownership of the RSTD. I traded the RSTD today for a Road King Classic. The Yamaha is a great machine, and anyone who gets one will be fortunate although I never did fall in love with mine. FYI, I spoke with a dealer who told me that he had been selling leftover 07 RSTD's for 8995.00. Unfortunately, that did not help me sell my RSTD. Rebates are also liberal on the 08's as well. The dealer is J & J Motors in Massilon, Ohio. He may have one or two left. Finally, I read that Mean Dog's memorial will be held about 7 miles from my home. I hope to meet you on the 29th of June as I pay my respects to the memory of a very nice man. Best Wishes, Deerjunky
  14. Hey All I was looking at the Diamond R Saddle bag light bar for my 06 RSTD.. Has anyone installed these lights and if so, whats your take on them ? THanks
  15. Here's a pic of my bike ready for a trip. Note the driver backrest with adjustable lumbar support, tour pak mounted with RSTD brackets and the 3 gallon aux. aluminum fuel tank on the trailer. AL
  16. Does anyone make passenger arm rests for the RSTD?
  17. I'm using stock bars with 1 1/2 risers right now. I'm thinking about trying the RSTD stock bars with no risers. I decided to brave the weather and see how the RSTD bars would fit. It was a brutal 75 degrees with a 10 mph wind from the south, but I know you folks wanted to know. I put on shorts, sunscreen and a cap and got started. First thing I looked at was how the bar end weights attached. Not even close. If I'm going to use these bars, I'll need RSTD weights. Anyone have a good picture of what the RSTD weights look like on the bike? I only took two measurements for position comparison. I measured perpendicular from the top of the pivot point on the shifter to the center of the bar at that point. About 30 inches. I measured from the widest point on the fairing to the center of the bar end (not the weight). About 8.5 inches. With the RSTD bars, the first measurement remained about 30 inches. The other measurement was now about 9 inches. I was a little surprised that they didn't pull back a little more, but that is a 1/2" more than with the 1 1/2" risers. First thing I noticed with the RSTD bars in place was the open center space. The bars passed to the outside of the speakers. I think I like that. One drawback for some is that I'm not sure the cigarette lighter type power point will be easily accessable. I have never used mine so not a problem. The throttle cable looks like it will need replacing. The risers have it stretched pretty tight in a full right turn. The clutch and upper brake look like they might work stock, but I think to be safe, I'll go a little longer. I expect the same cables and hoses used for the Flanders conversion would work here also. No way to judge comfort or picking up more wind on the hands due to the width until I actually do it and ride some. I'm sure I'll end up doing this, but it may be a few weeks. I have some other stuff I want to look into before I get started. One other thing you might have noticed in the attachments. The larger mirrors. I always hated the view from the stock mirrors. They may look good on the bike, but I couldn't see enough in them. These are about perfect for me. My only complaint is they are easy to move. I haven't had riding affect them yet, but it doesn't take much to move them. I like to hang my helmet on the right mirror and I usually end up needing to readjusting it. Time will tell how well they hold up, but for $25 + $13 shipping, I'm happy. Here is a link to a set he has for sale and a link to his store.
  18. After installing my new GPS unit earlier. I am noticing that my speedometer is out a bit from my actual speed as calculated by my GPS. I have heard that the GPS units are incredibly accurate. My '06 RSTD seems to be out on the high side. When my speedometer reads 120, my actual speed from GPS is 112. This can't be designed on purpose, so in that case, is there a fix?
  19. After reading how all of these 1st gens are being bought and lots of $ and tiime spent to make them nice again, I had decided to keep my 86 VR, but after spending some time on my new (to me) 05 RSTD, there is no way I will use the VR. That RSTD is waaaay to much fun to ride. So the 86 is in the classifieds again. I had pulled my ad, licensed, and insured it fully planning on keeping it, but It's gonna go. In fact, I was gonna send the VR seat out to buttbutler to do his thing on, but instead, today sent the studded mustang seat out for him to do his thing. I just put it in the classifieds. (deep breath here) BTW, here is the reason that I'm selling. Steve
  20. To make a long story short, I now own a Goldwing. Never fear, I have not deserted the RSTD. It is beatifully repaired, the man a Paragon Customs did an awesome job. Anyway, I met a man that had an 03 Goldwing for sale and he asked me what I would give him for it. I gave him a very low number and he took it. Could have knocked me over with a feather....so I had to write a check. Well yesterday Linda and I were out on the bikes, (she has an 05 GW) and I took out mine for the first time. In some respects it is a fantastic machine...in others it is a dud. I liked the power and torque...get on it at 30 mph in 5th gear and it just goes. The brakes are great and it handles well. Has great CB and am/fm radio. Good wind protection and great storage capcity. Mine has highway foot rests (I will get pics) and no matter how I move around, I just can't seam to get real comfortable. Then it dawned on me...this bike is cramped...maybe I have to get used to it. The long and short of it is...I can see why people like the Venture's and the RSTD's...they are roomy, comfortable bikes that are fun to ride. If mama Yama would make a few improvements...they could blow the bags off of Goldwings. Better electronics, fuel injection, better lights and electrical capacity, and way better brakes....I am satisfied with the power on the RSTD and the handling. The RSTD is way easier to work on. I put a new air cleaner on the GW and it is a LOT of work! NOBODY should ever feal inadequate riding next to a GW...they are not perfect and need some improving ,too. Mybe I'll keep it, maybe I won't. Just my first impressions
  21. I am wanting to add some additional lights to the rear of my 05' RSTD. I saw the thread on the Harley license plate light kit for the RSV. Can anybody tell me it this mod will work for my RSTD? Thanks for any input on the subject.
  22. How much air pressure do you guys run in the forks when you run solo on a RSTD? On my 86 VR, I found that no air worked best for me. (front end) If I decide to do the same on the RSTD, I plan on taking the air valves off so I can raise the tubes up 1" to lower the front end. That is why I am asking. As far as pressure in the rear, I have no idea what to run in this bike. Thanks, Steve
  23. Are there other Yamaha wheels that will fit a 2006 RSTD other than the Venturer? I am looking for front wheel only. thanks, JMAC
  24. Well Hello all: I just wanted to re-introduce myself. My name is Sonny, and I live in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. I joined this forum a few years back, to get some information about the RSTD and Venture. Well, after years of wanting 1, and many many MANY slipping through my fingers, I finally found what I think, is the best deal I could have. I just purchased a BRAND NEW 2006, yes 2006 white RSTD. Full warranty, no miles, just built. And coincidently, I just sold my 2003 Honda Shadow ACE today as well. I am hoping to have pictures very soon. And hopefully meet some of you this summer, because I plan to log lots of miles, with my unlimited mileage, 5 year warranty. I am so excited, like a kid on Christmas. Now, before you ask, I will give you the price I paid out the door, after Saturday, when I pick it up, and it is mine, call me superstitious, but I don't want to jinx anything. I think when you hear what I paid, you will agree I could not have asked for better. Just out of curiosity, what do you think a great price for that bike would be? Be serious. It has no extras, just built out of the crate. I took all the yamaha buyer incentives, including this years $1400 rebate, paid cash. And also, what do you think I should spend some $$ on accessory wise? Any other suggestions? I am open to all feedback. Sorry for rambling, and glad to be here!!

    Tough call

I haven't been here in a while, but I've been busy. One of my best friends packed it in just before Christmas. First year I had the RSTD I rode down to Norfolk VA to spend a couple of days with him and get in some riding. I knew he was fighting some health issues, but I didn't know he was as bad off as he was. It came as a complete surprise frankly, but he left me his black '05 Road King Classic and his almost new F150. I knew he had bought the HD last summer, but I didn't even know about the truck. Another close friend drove me down in January and we picked them up (the estate needed them out of there quickly). I really like the RSTD and had no plans to replace it, probably ever. I have put almost 600 miles on the RK in the last couple of weeks trying to make up my mind about it. For those of you that haven't had the pleasure, the RK is old school compared to an RSTD, but certainly a hoot to ride, competent, comfortable, a bit less bulk to paddle around, and seems reliable. It's fuel injected, has the cruise control I got used to, and a few neat accessories and a lot of chrome: I gotta say it's a beautiful thing. That and the fact that it was Bobbie's bike, I don't think I can bear to part with it now. Man this is gonna hurt!
