  1. Well, I had today off and thought I'd work more on the bike. It was a good day for me. I've got pics of my "firsts"... 1. Installed an extra power port in trunk. Plan to install another below passenger left leg but had to order the plug to get a water proof one. 2. Installed the round vents in my windshield. This was a bit nerve racking for me because I didn't want to ruin the windshield. It was actually pretty easy though and turned out nice. I have them a little more toward the center than some I've seen but some reviews I read said you don't get much air when they are more outside...took it for a spin and get a little bit of air...nothing too spectacular but enough help on 110 degree days. 3. Pulled the trailer. Finally got the trailer tagged and road ready. I've never pulled a trailer before with the RSV, so I took it out on the road for a little bit then came back and put the wife on to see how it rides 2up. All in all it did well. We road it around town for about 25 miles and took it on the highway. Pulled straight and no big issues. 4. Tested out our new Scala Rider Q2 Multiset bluetooth headsets on this ride. They worked pretty well. We sometimes had a hard time connecting via intercom but I think that's more our learning curve than the device. We also connected our phones to them and received phone calls while riding. Wife said she couldn't even tell I was on a motorcycle even though I was going about 55 at the time. All in all a great day. We are just about ready for our 2700 mile trip in June. Next step, load up the trailer and pull it around to ensure I'm comfortable with the extra weight.:cool10:
  2. Miss that roaring V8 with the thrush mufflers? Step back into your wild youth...even in your mini-van! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9XAC-BvUyo&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Shonky and the SoundRacer V8[/ame] Now if they could just come out with one for a vespa to a Road Star with Bubs!
  3. This is one of the places I wanted to visit while we were at the Cody Round Up a couple of years ago. It is definately going to be on my agendy this year while at the International. http://www.devilstower.net/ A short ride down the road and you can also do Sundance. Anyone else interested????
  4. The first mod is to replace the carbs with "Guppy 471's". No, they're not fuel injectors, they're gills. Also plan on taking off the Avons and putting on "Evenrudes". Will get me through the water better. Replace the stock handlebars with a new chrome "Rud-R", gotta steer this beast somehow. The hard bags will go, pontoons in their place. Finally, all my road gear, jacket with CE armor, riding pants that are padded and armored, full face flip up helmet, gloves- chuck it all for a good wet suit and scuba gear. At least I'd get the bike out.....
  5. I went on a poker run Saturday. It started out to be a very pretty day, left the house about 8am to run up to Rincon to pick up Donna. Got back here about 11, but the ride had left out about 30 minutes before we got signed up. Knowing how these things work, I figured we could take our time and catch the group by the 2nd or 3rd stop. So Heading for the first stop, a GSP goes flying by us. Then an ambulance. Started wondering. We come around a curve, and theres about 50 bikes, a couple firetrucks, 2 deputy cruisers, the GSP, and the ambulance. It turns out that one of the road guards, figured that he needed to get back to the front to play road guard again, instead of falling in at the back of the group. So he goes flying past the group, gets around half of them, and loses it. hit a tight curve around 80 mph on his Road King. Thank god the curve was a right hand curve or he would have taken out a half dozen other bikes with him. He went off the road, through about a 100 feet of tall grass before finding the trees. He did manage to get it slowed down to the point that he crushed his right leg, Now has a steel rod. And a severe concussion. Needless to say, his bike is toast. But he'll live to tell his story. So Anyways, after an hour delay, we did finish the ride, But this kinda took the fun element out of it for most of us. Roger is gonna be ok, If his wife Julie has her say, he'll never ride again. Anyhow about a 250 mile day. mid 80s, very nice day. Didn't even bother to stick around to see who won. Gave 50/50 tickets to one of the organizers and asked them to give the cash to Roger if I won. Liability only on his bike, he may be able to piece it back together. Depending on frame and forks.
  6. We've all been there, where to ride, been there, done that so I just hop on the old bike and decide to follow where my turn signals go blink blink blink.Southwest OH and southeast IN on a short ride but I thought I would just take a few pics along the way for the fun of it. I think it was october last year so I pop up out of my hole in the ground to make sure it is safe to ride.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/919.jpg Have a little look around... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/918.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/920-1.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/916.jpg So I hit the road to nowhere.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/901.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/904.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/902.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/905.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/903.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/909-1.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/908.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/910.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/913.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/912.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/915.jpg Just a two hour ride to nowhere but it was worth it. Short rides and a few overniters is about all I have time for but I always look forward to them.http://www.ohioriders.net/images/smilies/ridingmotorcycle.gif
  7. Hey Ya, Got some questions about Road King Slip Ons. I bought a set of RK Slipons from the HD dealer that came off a 2010 bike. When I got home with them I looked in the tubes and the baffles are different. I called the salesman and he said all the newer models were that way. So I guess I have to buy two sets to get a matching pair? I have the brackets to mount them, but don't know what type of clamps ya are talking about. The clamps that hold the RSV slipons won't work? Thanks. Glenn

    Road Glide

Went and test road an HD Road Glide Ultra today.. Nice bike, might be my next bike. Wind noise a little better than the RSV, engine noise about the same volume but less whiny, stereo way better, completely clear at 70mph. The seat and ergonomics were about the same as the RSV. The 103 engine has about the same hp as the RSV and more torque, yet comes with a 6 speed trans, seemed you could chose between three gears at any given speed. The handle bars were up too much for me, but just rotating them down should correct that, I don't think I would need different bars. There was a tiny bit of turbulence with the stock screen, but then is was short enough to look over, and even the stock RSV screen was taller than that, if I bent down a little and looked through the turbulence went away, so a different screen should correct that. I won't actually get serious about deciding whether to change bikes or not until next year when the warranty runs out on the RSV, but right now I have test ridden every brand touring bike except the Kawasaki Voyager, and the new BMW 1600GTL. Of the bikes I've ridden the only one I would consider replacing the RSV so far is the Ultra.
  9. Well as of yesterday I have had my 83 on the road. I have a few problems that need adressed. The first is the @#$% brakes. They stink. I went through and rebled them and now they are worse. I know I am missing something here but when you cant stop 900 lbs rolling down the road you have a problem. The second is the cooling fan, why does it wait until the gauge is at the red before it will come on? Third is it is running rich, smells like gas when you start it and as long as it idles you can smell it. After you ride for a while it clears up, why? Fourth is there a taller windshield for the early MK1's? The top edge is right at eye level. Other than the brakes these are minor problems. Thank you for all the help. Shaun
  10. i've been on here for over 2 yrs now and see all the tire questions but havnt seen or missed this one, most tell their dislike for bridgestone but never state why they dislike them, they came on my 2010 rsv and even tho i've only gotten 350 miles thus far they seem to hold the road well anddont follow road smakes as bas as the 404's do just wondered what it as about them we dislike thanks steve
  11. Took the FJR out this Morning -7C....Couldnt wait.... Every Spring I go to my favourite road and give the scoot a run Now I'm thinking of the road condition like salt, loose sand, Moose, deer ,rodents and the shifting of the payment. 211 Kph on the garmin GPS , to you members down south thats..131.03 mph Oh!! What a Feeling..... What a RUSH!!!
  12. Who has good knowledge of the Valley of the Gods Road off Hwy 261 in Utah? It's a short stretch, about 25kms, gravel...is it worth it? I have read this thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28495 and would like to see the switch backs there too, but I don't want to take another stretch of gravel if it isn't worth it compared to what I'll already be seeing.
  13. Ok, I've been a big supporter of the Avon Venons. I'm happy with them as an all round, all weather tire. But I'm at the point where the set I have now needs to be replaced. The one thing I'd like to gain in a new set of tires is better handling on off the beaten path roads. Lime rock, gravel and dirt. The Avons are not the greatest on these kinds of roads. I'm not going all out off road here but I do tend to wander down any road that will take me to someplace interesting. I live in Nebraska for Gods sake. It takes some effort to get someplace interesting. I ran Contys on my old GWs back in the 80's and they worked pretty well on the gravel roads. They were a pretty well treaded tire. Any recommendations on tire that would be an improvement in this area that would be available in 1st gen sizes? Mike
  14. Beautiful day in Virgina my nephew and I went riding on HWY 16 from Marion Va. I still think the Dragon has nothing on this road.
  15. Tonight as I left work at 2 AM my HID went out. I didnt notice it right away until I hit a real dark stretch of road. It was then I realized that I was riding with only those dreaded LED driving lights. I cant believe how much illumination those LEDs put out. It was almost like riding with a stock headlight. I saw a nice clear band of light in front of me. Those LEDS really lit up the road. As far as the HID headlight goes, this has happened a few times before. I sent Canadian Cruiser Customizing an email and requested a replacement ballast since its still under warranty. Ill see what response I get. I cant have that light go out on me at night any more.
  16. I know some here have more than one bike and I was wondering if anyone has sync'ed the carbs on a Road Star. If so, is there a write-up on the procedure? I'm assuming it is possible...
  17. need some help on coming up with a tool kit to travel with.i have the little one that comes in the saddle bag but was wondering with the help of you veterens which is the most used tool on a road trip.i know you cant take everything just need a good starting point, thanks.
  18. It never seems to fail that this time of year when it warms up a little, bad things happen to people on motorcycles. A couple of weeks ago with a little bit of a warm up, we had two motorcycle fatalities. One was a man and the other biker was a woman. It both cases, it appears to have been due to losing control and hitting something. I always hate to see this and I know that I am always a little apprehensive when I first get the bike out. I also like to get some seat time before I take on a passenger. Anyway, be careful out there and watch out for others no watching out for you and there always seems to be more stuff on the road. RandyA
  19. Bearthooth: when we where planning this Kalispel trip I bought a scenic by ways book. The first thing it said about the beartooth was this hwy is not for the faint of heart! This was a correct statement but what fun! Out of all the byways we traveled over the years this has been in the top 5. The road was real bumpie so the video is shaky. I hope you enjoy, and if Yellowstone is in your plans this is a must road. Hwy 212 out of the north east side of Yellowstone. http://www.photoshow.com/watch/Gx3pK6YR Phill
  20. Installed my new custom seat and went out for a ride. Life is good! Then I went over a rough spot in the road and all of a sudden a loud noise and when I look in my rear view mirror....there's my trunk. Bouncing down the road like a freaking basketball! I know I had it latched good, but apparently I forgot to set the lock to 'locked'. Argh! So, does anybody know if MKII trunks are compatible with MKI bikes? There's one on eBay that's the right color, but it's an '87 and mines an '83. They look the same but just wanna make sure.
  21. INDOT uses a private contractor to paint the stripes on the state highways. The contractor boss hired a guy to paint the center stripe on a little used stretch of road. On the first day the guy painted about a mile-and-a-half of road and the boss told him "Good job, see you in the morning". The next day the guy painted only about three quarters-of-a-mile and the boss told him "Hey, you didn't do so good today, let's hope tomorrow is better". On the third day he only paints about a quarter-of-a-mile. The boss says "Well you have really slacked off. This is unacceptable. I'm going to have to let you go". The guy responds,"That's not fair!!! The more I paint the farther I have to walk to get to the paint bucket!".
  22. K-90 IN MO. IS A GREAT MOTORCYCLE ROAD! http://www.photoshow.com/watch/vN3pZ8Rt PHILL
  23. Below are some pictures of the first four panels from my cousins HD Road Glide. All are being done in a horror film/Halloween theme, with a different theme on each panel. Though side covers, which appear to both be pumpkins. Most of the characters in the panels have been modified to resemble Hogs. The left side of the tank is Freddie Kruger, but with hog features. Not for most people, but what he wanted. There is some extreme detail in theses. The guy that is doing them has put about a week in the tank alone. His bike is the orange on on the right in the last picture as it was. Gary

    road trip

looks like i'll be making a little road trip if everything works out the way I hope. the "big" question is which way to go, my choices are either I40 East from CA to SC or stay a little lower and take I 10 and I 20. any thoughts? I want to do this in three days if possible (2300+ miles) -- hmm, maybe four:hihi:
  25. A bus load of politicians were driving down a country road one afternoon, when all of a sudden, the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field. Seeing what happened, the old farmer went over to investigate. He then proceeded to dig a hole and bury the politicians. A few days later, the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus, and asked the old farmer, "Were they all dead?" The old farmer replied, "Well, some of them said they weren't, but you know how them politicians lie."
