  1. Merry Christmas everyone! from the Skidmore family, Jeff, Leslie, Josh & Jordan..... "Remember to take time to thank God today......"
  2. Just wanted to say from our home to all of you, a safe and Merry Christmas. At a time when everything is so commercialized, I always try to remember what is important to us, whether it is the religious significance, family or quiet reflection, I ask that we take a moment to remember those if us are going through difficult times and ask for a moment for them. I have grown to care very deeply for everyone on this wonderful place and consider each of you family. So, most of all on this day I wish you all peace.
  3. Merry Christmas to all here. Hope that each and everyone has the best Christmas that their situation allows. Remember the "Reason for the Season". Don and Linda
  4. hey mike, if your listening in, drop in and let us know how your doing. it may take awhile to remember, but i never forget a friend. i know your lurking. bill
  5. I remember when I was a kid helping put up Christmas lights. It usually just involved stringing lights around the front porch and a small pine outside the bedroom window. Back in those days the light bulbs were much bigger and almost every house was decorated. One poor guy spents months just installing his but hundreds of people would come out after dark to see them. They were always a big hit with the ladies and children. I remember going to the woods and chopping a white pine for the house. I brought in a few that would make Charlie Brown proud. Not to degrade or forget the true meaning of Christmas but these traditions sure were alot of fun and still are. Not many folk do it anymore like they use to. Which brings me to my next point. Remember that 250 ft section of rail fence I installed at the camp last March. Well guess what MaMamo is doing to it. I should not have put an electrical outlet on that new utility pole in the front yard. I have had no more trouble out of the Rose Thief. Do people steal Christmas lights? If so MaMamo will be @^!#.
  6. GeorgeS and I were discussing my current and reoccuring draggin starter problem. He mentioned that he remembered someone posting that they had used a solenoid from a small foriegn car to replace the oem solenoid that comes on the 1st Gens. But, he did not remember the details of which car the starter came off of. The problem is that the stock solenoids don't seem to hold up very well and the cost of new replacements from yamaha run close to $80.00. Using the car solenoids was considerably cheaper with a heavier duty solenoid. The question is does anyone remember the name of the post or by who the post was made that had the details of this solenoid mod?
  7. I was looking at some pics of my old 83 Venture last night and it reminded me somewhat of the style of the Victory Vision. I know they don't look that similar but with the lines of the 83-85 saddlebags the bike does have a swoopines that reminds me of a Vision. I'm not old enough to remember when these bikes were new. Was the Venture seen as a radically styled bike at the time, like the Vision is now? http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/epic_mcy/250/83_venture_250.jpg http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:HP63CONAb7UmAM:http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%2520C/Victory%2520Vision%2520Street.jpg
  8. The starter on my 83 Venture has developed a problem that isn't easily repaired (shorted field coil), and it's time to replace it. There was a dealer that was selling the 4 brush starters to us for a good price. Anybody remember which dealer it was?? If I remember correctly the 2 brush starter from the Venture, the 4 brush starter from the V-Max and the starter from the 2nd generation Ventures will all fit. Am I correct?? Is the 2nd generation starter the 4 brush type?? Anybody have a starter they want to sell? Frank
  9. Friend of mine recently bought a refurb off e-bay. Seems like a pretty good unit. Normally sells for around $300 if I remember right and they are selling them for $110 + free shipping. I got to check it out while riding and works pretty well. One question I have about this unit or any GPS for that matter is say I want to go from Indy to South Dakota, but want to take specific roads, can I program the GPS to go only on the roads I want to go on instead of having the GPS pick the route for you? I see they have the Quest2 now also. Garmin lists it for $750.00. The same place on e-bay sells the refurb for $185 if I remember right. Garmin didn't have the price listed on just the Quest. I was reading all the stuff on the Garmin web-site, but for things like what I am asking, its' all greek to me. Thanks.
  10. Got out for a great ride today. Last weekends colour ride was nice but cool, so with the warm temps we decided to trace some of the roads we were on. Definetly ONE of the best rides for the 08 riding season. Sun was shinning bright and the colours were much Brighter than last weekend. Started out a tad cool with a little fog (on the highway) but warmed up quickly. After 745 km we got home just as it was getting dark. I am afraid to say that this may be one of the last big rides for this year but had a great day with just Rhonda and I will remember this one. PS yes I forgot the camera but I will remember with out photos. Brad
  11. Just a short thought about sunset and sunrise. When you see the shadows have grown long And your still riding on The shadows point to those who cannot see For the sun is behind me And when the shadows point towards thee Those coming from behind, Its thee they don't see. Ok, I ain't no poet but thought if it sounded really dumb you may remember it.
  12. Back by popular demand, we will be heading up to Woodland, CA for lunch at LUDY'S MAIN ST BBQ http://www.ludys.com. Will the weather gods hold up so DK and M can make it over the mountain on the new bike? Which color first gen will Condor ride? Will the kids behave to let EasyRider and Leggs have an afternoon off? Remember, this is an eating club with a riding disorder - and this place has some of the best western style ribs arounds. Ride route and time for lunch to be posted soon.
  13. During the maintenance day at Don's, a few folks were telling me about some material that could be used to repair the plastic on the Ventures. I did not take any notes and memory being what it is (or in my case - isn't), I do not remember what the stuff was called or where you could get it. Anyone out there remember this conversation or the material mentioned? Thanks ahead of time.
  14. While sitting around shooting the breeze in Kitchener...the topic of good glues came up. Someone mentioned a really great glue that was better than crazy glue, invisible and they used it to glue some..."angel wings" back on a ornament. Anyone remember this conversation? What was the stuff and how does one get some? Thanks
  15. I took off all the fairing and removed the TCI box. Put the TCI box back in about 3 weeks later and now I have these wires that I can't remember where they go. They are on the left side of the bike. Help!!!!! Thanks Coach Ron
  16. well today i got to change the oil which is a big deal for me, now i want to change the final gear oil, my question is do i remove the side bag and if so is it hard to do, remember i'm a mechanical geek. as always you guy's have been great with your help. thanks, bob

  18. HAS ANYONE HEARD FROM "PYRO",lately? don't remember him checking in for a longgggg, while. just jt
  19. I got a set of IMC motorcom HS-G15's headsets and I am not able the the driver from the passenger helmet. One speaker, from the passenger connection, is not getting sound either. I think the when the passenger speaks, it is supposed to cancel something, I dunno. I have new J&M cables from the tuner installed as well. What am I missing? Remember the 85's do not have a passenger controller. I have replaced the radio and cassette player on this but not the tuner or anything else.
  20. Has anyone did the modification to the carb where the vacume lines are tied into one another on each side. cant remember the name of the procedure. wondered if it works. remember reading about it a few years back, 2nd gen ventures. Jim
  21. Several folks asked me about the flag pole I had on the back of Blue Belle this weekend at Don's Maintenance Day. Here is the connection on e-bay for all that asked. I am not even going to try to remember who all asked me about it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHROMED-ALUMINUM-FLAG-holder-POLE-for-Motorcycles_W0QQitemZ300229722787QQihZ020QQcategoryZ84147QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 I have the TERMINAL case of CRS (Can't Remember Squat). It is terminal, because the wife used to tell me she would kill me if I ever forgot her birthday or anniversary.
  22. Am changing my oil brand from Amsoil to Mobil 1. Was at Wally's and noticed several different caps and I seem to remember that the gold cap is the one with friction modifiers. Silver cap does not. Is that correct? DJ :confused24:

To Drop or Not To Drop

Well one of my tight turns in a small area finally showed me that the RSV is more than I can hold up once it starts the lean over. Im 6'1' 283 lbs. but I will tell you once it starts over, thats it... Riding through the Cherahala Skyway this past weekend was a ride to remember. But on a dead end road, narrow, I was humbled. Not embarassed since no one saw me, but a new respect for the machine. Getting it back up is another experience. I had no damage since I was not rolling when it went over, but I will always look for a wider spot in the future.:cool10:
  24. Rottella T 15-40 not energy conserving, is that what I want. is that a blue bottle or white one. I sort of remember using that last time. A little help, please
  25. Found My bike leaking AF at night during cold weather. Also had a slight oder when riding I could not locate. Finally found it. There is a small rubber seal behind the false heads. It seems to seep during cold weather. I seem to remember seeing it here on the site before. Don't remember what they did . I took and put 3 layers of duct tape on the button that pushes the seal in and it seems to have solved the problem.
