1. One of the front fork airlines has a massive leak in it. Not sure if it is 68 or 69 but in any case they should both be replaced. http://www.partshark.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=15285&category=Motorcycles&make=YAMAHA&year=1990&fveh=385 Looks like custom ones will have to be made. Has anyone done this? It would be nice if I could get them made up before taking half the bike apart and having to bus it in the interim.
2. Light cream on gold, I think; parked S sice of Rt 34 Saturday 7/17, in Lyons before stop sight to the west on N. One way. Any ID? It was VERY nice to see another VR, and it was an 85+ (or is it 86), and naturally in prime condition! Was this you? If so, please replay and let's ride! Jack Zfrebird4 of Ft Collins.
3. Well, the wife and I just got back from a nice trip. We left NJ on Monday morning and went up along the Delaware river into Port Jervis, NY. then up 209 to around kingston and up 9w (depressing) and some other back roads and stayed just north of Saratoga Springs. Next day it was doing some sighting in the area and then up to Vermont and then south through the Green Mountains and into the Berkshires of MA. Then back to NY for the night and then home to South Jersey. Nice trip. It only rained 4 or 5 times. Mostly on top of the mountains.
4. :clap2:Beautiful Place, to dam hot, People are very friendly and very nice roads
5. Hi, and thank you in advance. I have been looking for a venture that needed some work as the bike funds are low, and I found an 83 with 50.000 miles on it in really nice shape that ran last year but will not start now. The owner want's $600.00 so I have to get it. Okay the question is, this is the second venture "needing work" that I have looked at that previously ran, but only, or mostly on 3 cylinders. I am well aware of carb issues and air leaks, but I am wondering about the ignition control system as well, is there a common problem that would manifest itself by dropping one cylinder? I know I could do a search, sorry but I am in a time crunch. Thank's for the help, really nice group here!
6. Sniped my first Ebay Auction tonight. After losing out by several dollars the last 2 times I figured out the system and with just seconds to go I pulled the trigger and gave it a nice head shot. Its an aluminum wall piece with patterns cut into it with a grinder. This guy, Jon Allen, makes some real nice stuff. Not bad for 61 bucks. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Modern-Abstract-Metal-Wall-Art-Contemporary-Sculpture-/00/$%28KGrHqN,%21jkE3LlE-htKBOJh6MZg2%21%7E%7E0_1.JPG
7. Skid, Leslie and family stopped in Columbia for the night on their way to Florida. What a nice visit we had! It was so good to see them again!
8. Myself and Kevin (Kevinfalk on VR) headed out on Sunday for a nice approx. 800 km ride. From Stettler down through the Kananaskis and back. About 45 mins from home a deer flew out of the ditch and hit Kevin causing him to crash. I guess I paniced and grabbed to much brake to try and avoid everything and laid mine down also. Both of us faired pretty good, Kevin ended up with a broken ankle and a really sore shoulder. His bike not so good, the only thing not damaged is his new Russel Daylong seat. Myself, I ended up with road rash on my elbows, knees and hip. Bike got chewed up on the leftside pretty bad. Thank God for leathers is all I can say, they did a stand up job keeping the asphault from eating at my skin. My question though, does anyone have any tips on dealing with insurance . I know every state and province is different but anything might help. I just always get the feeling they're going to put the boots to ya in the end. Conrad
9. I am thinking of adding highway pegs to my 86 VR. Just wondering what folks have used for these bikes. The fairings are kind of in the way to stick my legs past but it would be nice to stretch out on the long rides. Pictures? Thanks, Gary Just did a search and found most of the info.....
10. have made it to Alden NY safely..Had a nice supper and and nice chat....
11. Congratulations on your new scoot...Just saw the picture on your bio page...NICE.. EVEN THOUGH ITS A :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: .
12. i have talked to the loan company about my motorcycle there is a small loan on it that is now being paid by the insurance company. i took out that benifit in case of finance problems so far there paying the loan payments. but they will release the bike for the right price? as of right now its back together just needs some things tighten up and i will go up there and do this latter. as most pepole know im in a finance bind and can hardley make ends meet. the storage runs $75 a month and after august i can no longer afford this. so my thoughts are sell it give the money to the loan company and get out from under it. or if someone close by is willing to store it for free that would be great!!! im looking at this workers comp case to end by december. also the loan company said i could just trade it and they would hold the title to the new bike. and the insurance pepole will still make payments. so that gave me another thought maybe someone has a smaller bike that runs they would trade straight up for so i can do a little ridding this year? ihate to get rid of it. but here is a list if what has been done to it #1 new dunlop tires 404 last year less then 500 miles on them. #2 skydocks fuse up grade #3 nice exhaust put on used from ebay but all there from front to back includeing the nice collector. and turn down tips. #4 new brakes with new rear rotor this was a $1200 fix that was part of haveing the exhaust and brakes done. have recipet. #5 used radiotor from skydock and used hoses new antifreeze installed i ran the bike and no leaks thanks skydock and the other member who gave me the hoses. also installed the side plugs? that dingy sent again no leaks. #6 nice battery that i bought at a harley shop cost $125 gel type less then 7 months old and i used skydocks battery sender wire to stop the flashing light on the computer. and im sure there is other stuff im forgetting? now the bad she needs the carbs sync she idles ok but needs the choke to start it? after about a minute choke can be pulled off and she idles but a little rough? seafoam was added at storage and new plugs installed. she needs a paint job its faded and there are some of the usual crack. rear trunk passenger pad needs to be redone shes ripped. ihvae the chrome rack but nedds 2 screws removed they broke off but the rack is still nice and shinny. could use a new clutch and front brake master the sight glass is ugly. a little time by you experts here and this bike will run like it should. it has 77k on her. but if some one is willing to store it i would like to keep it or trade for a small bike till next year once again many thanks to all of the help from you great pepole sincerly oldgoat
13. I recently acquired a 93 VR that I am trying to get back on the road. The good news is it only has 18xxx miles on it. The bad news is it only has 18xxx miles on it, so it has spent plenty of time sitting. Cosmetically it is very nice except for a clouded windshield. I took apart the carbs, and every slow speed jet was clogged, but other than that they were nice and clean. The gas tank has some sludge, but I think it will clean up pretty well using my old stand by "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner, which does a great job on rust. I bought a deka battery for it and discovered the CLASS system has an E4 error, so here is my first question. I can hear a click at the back of the bike when the CLASS system powers up, so does that mean the controller in the dash is OK and I need to look into the power getting to the compressor, or could the controller still need the resoldering that I have read about on this forum? I also have a flashing red warning light blinking at me nonstop. What is it trying to warn me about? I have a 91 Vmax, so I know I will love this motor and bike once I get all the bugs worked out. Thanks for any replies. I'm sure I'll have more questions.
14. As Robin call's it.On our way home from a nice 130 mile ride. We were about 5 miles from home, coming up on a 4 way. We had a yellow flashing light, the cross road had a stop sign. An old gezzer about 85 to 90 years old, can barely see over the steering wheel. He came to a complete stop.He is on our right, both of us are looking right at him.He never looked to his right or left, just straight ahead. He sits there at least 2-3 seconds. I'm thinking because he's not moving he must have seen us. NOPE,he pulls out, heads staight across our path. All I can say is thank god for the trike kit.I locked them up good. All you can hear is screeching tires and the smell of rubber. with all that noise he still doesn't look our way.Maybe a good thing he didn't,he may have panicked and hit his brakes.we would have T boned him for sure. The trike kit kept us up. I'm sure we would have gone down without it. All in all it was a very nice ride.
15. What are your Father's Day plans? We are taking it easy at home. I bought some nice strip steaks, baked potatoes, and etc. If I have the time I will make Moped a nice lemon meringue pie. HAVE A HAPPY DAY! Yama Mama
16. I stopped by to see a customer today in Knox, PA. While talking, I noticed a picture of a '68 Plymouth Roadrunner convertible on the wall beside his desk. I asked him if that was one that he wished he had kept and he said...Heck...I still have it. Turns out that he is a big Mopar fan. He asked if I wanted to see some old cars and of course I did. We ended up walking through 3 buildings full of early to late 60 Mopars and a couple of early 70 models. This was a very nice guy dressed in Dickie's work clothes and you would think that he was just any regular guy but he had probably close to a million dollars worth of cars in those buildings. Not junk...NICE cars. Most were in very nice original condition or very lightly restored. He had 2 Roadrunner convertibles, 2 beautiful Superbirds, a number of early sixty Satellites, 300's, etc. A couple of early 70 Challengers and several other great cars. All had original engines and most were 383, 440, etc. It was a real treat to walk through and see the cars, sit in them and remember the muscle cars from my teen years. You just never know what you are going to run into.
17. While out for a ride today, came across this Suzuki ... very nice I thought.
18. Pulled into Racers Bar and Grill and saw this nice Royal Star in the parking lot. Turns out to be owned by a guy I've known for 3 years but have never seen him on anything except for his Valkyrie. It's a 96 he bought new and has hardly rode it since he bought his Valkyrie. He made that custom seat. Says he's now using it for his around town ride.
19. Rolled in about a half hour ago. Gee, it's over already! Had a SUPER time! Once again thanks Squid for helping out this old geezeer to gwet some work done on the scoot! Clutch works supurb! I discovered that guys sharing tools is a form of male bonding! So glad to run into everyone I knew already and to meet a few new people as well! As usual it was a hot day and it didn't rain! I'm really surprised there was that much left over ice cream. Kudos to Hummingbird for coming up with this, it was YUMMY!!! Great to havfe Pioneer Motorsports set up a tent, and they must have done alright because they are already talking about returning next year and adding riding gear to what they bring. That Midnight RSV they picked up along the way sure looked nice, and I know several of you were interested in it! Very pleased with the hotel accomodations for the price, and we were treated very well! Offering free rags was a nice touch! At first we weren't going to do next year but on the way home we decided it is waaaaay too much fun to miss! See ya all down the road!!
20. Finally got the trailers done. The blue/black is mine and the black one is my brother in-law Don's. They are not 100% perfect, there are some blemishes, but all in all, they came out pretty nice considering they were painted in a garage. Now to get them to maintainance day for some pinstripe. Can't wait!!
21. I have an 07 Blue / Black Venture. We often ride with my Sister & Brother in law. They have an 08 Anniversary HD Road King - a very nice looking bike. Ever since we bought our bike in 08, when we are with them, THEY get complimented on their bike. How 'nice' it looks. Seldom if ever did anyone say anything about our Venture. This became a running joke between them and my wife and I. So late last Fall, I had wide whitewall tires put on my bike. We have had the bike out 4 times so far this year and 3 of those times, we were complimented on how nice our bike looks. Those 3 times, we were with my Sis & Brother in law! My wife couldn't figure out what made this year different from the past years, then it hit us - it HAS to be the whitewalls. I love the look and hopefully will never have to go back to Blackwalls. There isn't a large variety of brands to choose from and I'm guess that as this model gets older, the choices will get fewer. craigr
22. I came into work Monday and one of our Harley guys told me about a Venture a guy had where he had just bought a small trail bike for his kid. The guy had posted on Craigs List and it looked pretty good. It turned out to be an 86 with 39.000 miles on it with some extra stuff. The guy that had it was a contractor and had done some work for a guy that couldn't come up with all money owed, so he threw in the bike. The guy that we bought it from said he had only put about 100 miles on it and he did more damage to the bike than the previous 24 years. He dropped it and broke a corner out of the right fairing and under the trunk. The bike has been sitting for a long time and will definately need a carb cleanning and sync. It has a new battery and does run, but only with the choke on, which is typical of clogged jets. Otherwise, the bike appears to be in really nice shape and should be roadworthy without too much work and money. We are going to need one of the rubber straps that hold the side panels on. The carbs still have the torque screws and appear to have not been touched, so it will probably need diaphragms. It has a nice Ventureline Back rest and it even has the lighted rear reflector that Big bike parts sold. It is the brown color and a little lighter that the brown 85 I bought a while back. As soon as we get the side panels back on it, I will try to post a couple of pictures of it. I think that will be a nice bike for Brian(Lil Venturous) as his wife wants to ride and the only thing she has ridden on with him was a souped up FZ1 and I don't think that went too well. RandyA
23. Still making improvements for our Jun ride. I saw several different options on here for cup holders. The option I had decided to go with was the water bottle holder from Wal-Mart. I found a couple on clearance and bought them but before I got around installing them, I found these. I got them from the bike section in my local PX (on Fort Carson Army Post). I had to bend the brackets slightly to fit around the handlebars and the rubber on the rear grab bars (though if you wanted to cut the rubber off, they would have worked). I think they look really nice and should be functional. The only thing is you have to make sure you have a cup that tapers so that it will stay in...so a regular water bottle won't work...but we plan to just find some nice cups with straws, then we will dump whatever we are drinking in the cup and we can drink from the straw with the helmet on and no tilting of the head.... I've included a picture of the product packaging incase anyone else is interested. They are a nice chrome look. Oh, and they cost a whole $5.86 each! Mike
24. Found this site, and thought someone might like a look. Nice head wraps for the ladies http://www.riderswraps.com
25. I have to say...as Maintenance Day is approuching...I am getting just as excited as Big Tom for it to hurry up and get here. I love seeing everyone and catching up. Don and Eileen do a wonderful job, and I really don't think even they understand what this means to us to get everyone together; and how much we enjoy it. This year will be especially nice having Aussie Annie and Quick Step to join us. So....may the pouring of the WINE soon begin...see you soon my fellow wineos'.
