  1. ok, need some help here.. I installed my R/K`s last Sat. and took them back off in about 10 min.... hated the way they fit.. sounded good but looked like some rigged %$#@... I have the Kury. clamps and they still did not cover the pipe where the RK`s meet up. Looks like some of the pipe on the mufflers needs to be cut off.. any one have any Ideas, I have seen them on others and they looked good, I thought about useing the cone from the stock, but didn`t want to end up with 2 sets that I can`t use.. Kreg
  2. Anyone have any idea how hot it gets where the mufflers join the stock pipes? I put some permatex 1B form a gasket on and I'm wondering if it's going to burn away... 400F limit. Thanks, gp
  3. I have a set of TD on my 07 RSMV and have been wanting a little noise from them. Has anyone drilled the TD mufflers out for a "little" more sound? I have been considering buying the RK mufflers to get a little more sound from them but before I do, has anyone drilled the TD mufflers? If so how did they sound? Hard to take a drill after any of them before I know what it will do. I bet some of you have had some experience with this?
  4. BigBoyinMS

    Loud!

I was tearing down my RSV getting ready to install a new rear tire. Since I had the mufflers off I wanted to see just how loud it was. Blam, that's a loud summagun!
  5. Removed stock slip on mufflers on 2007 midnight venture while waiting on new khrome werks slip on mufflers. Found out that i could not remove the metallic exhaust gaskets without tearing. Does anyone know if the khrome werks will come with gastkets or do i have to find locally.
  6. are these mufflers direct bolt on replacements for a first gen? http://www.macperformance.com/store/category.cfm?SID=3&Category_ID=912&Catlevel=3 wondering because it says they fit ''all models''
  7. Hi, Got my new to me 1990 Venture 1300 this weekend. I like almost everything about it other than the exhaust. The collector rattles and the mufflers are REAL quiet. You can hear the collector rattle over top of the sound of the exhaust. I saw the threads about gutting the collector and the mufflers. Both projects look beyond my pay grade. I have been looking for some type of aftermarket slip-ons but cant find any. Does anyone know of any good sounding mufflers that will fit? On my last bike, an '86 V-Max, I put on a set of Supertrapps, I would like a sound like that. Thanks for any info, Brian
  8. Was wondering what the avarage mpg for Ventures was?I went from Baltimore to Brooklyn,Ny. yesterday and got 42.6 mpg.It was a spirited ride on the way running up to 75 or so.We got passed like we were standing still! On the way back traffic was terrible.Bumper to bumper 3/4 of the way home.Motor wise bike is all stock execpt for R/K mufflers and pilot srews turned out 1/4 of a turn. Not sure if this is the right forum for this question :think:I,m sure some have input though.
  9. My '85 muffler tips rusted out and since the rest was solid, I scored a major hit! Not knowing what I would find, I sawed off the rusted out tips up to a 3/8" from the seam at the widest point of the bell. To my surprise, I found a very thick, recessed end baffle (that has a nice look) with the exhaust tube comming through all the way to the end of the original tip. I cut the tube off even with the new opening and recessed it about 1/2" back into the mouth and painted the whole interior of the opening with a high temp black paint. You wouldn't believe how sharp it looks! Clean and racey. So, before you trash your mufflers, chop'em! What could you lose?
  10. I'm investigating new mufflers and it is between the BUBS sleepers or the KhromeWerks slip ons. I don't seem to run into other Royal Stars that have made the switch to compare. Does anyone know a site or sites that have the sounds? Also, Anyone that has experience with both, regarding quality.
  11. Hi there peoples: I've read here that the road king mufflers are a resonable good choice of muffler to get a better sound from the RSV. Now I am wondering if the H.D.'s FLH would be the same or are these too big for the RSV's. Any help would be greatly appriciated.. Lightnen
  12. My '85 has a left muffler that's rusted out on it's tip and rather than run down another, I'd like to install a set of 1200 H-D mufflers that are straight-through with surrounding baffles. I'm wondering if not enough back pressure could be an issue. Anyone done any homework on aftermarket exhaust?
  13. Is there a gasket that goes on the exhaust for stock mufflers? I wanted to put the stock mufflers back on this weekend just for a change and can't remember. I checked the manual and the diagram doesn't show one. If there is i must have lost them when I swapped the last time.
  14. Seems this subject is getting beat to death, but I have a question about the clamps. I just got a pair of 2005 RG take offs and know I need the brackets from Squidley (when he gets some more made), but what about the clamps. I haven't taken the stock mufflers off yet so may be a little pre mature. Why can't you use the original clamps with the RG mufflers? Also should I drill out the center baffle or the front one and why?
  15. I was in one of my local independent bike shops today and found a new/ used(1 week) set of Road King mufflers very reasonable do I need any bushings, gaskets, special clamps or brackets to mane the switch, I have an 06 RSV and would like just a little more sound:cool10:
  16. I have a small exhaust leak on my 1st gen where the mufflers attach . Both sides have a small leak. The clamps are tigtened down as far as they will go, but the mufflers are still loose and I can move them by hand. Any suggestions on how to get them to tighten up? Is tere supposed top be a gasket at this connection point? Thanks for any advice.
  17. I am about to purchase a set of 99 Road King mufflerss for my 06 RSTD. I was wondering if anyone could put me in touch with somebody building mounting brackets for these mufflers. Also, another question, I drilled out my stock mufflers and got a lot of popping on decel. I have plugged the AIS and still popping occurs. I am not talented enough to rejet or adjust the carbs, so I am going to put these mufflers on in hopes of making it sound better. If there is anyone in the state of Washington that would like to help out a Soldier with rejetting or adjustment please contact me. All the food and beer you can drink would gladdly be offered as payment for your help.
  18. I have a 2002 midnight Venture, I bought it used and put samson slip-ons on ti to get a better sound etc..I like the sound OK btu I' d like it to be a little louder and maybe more of a roar than a rumble(if that makes sense),Im thinking the Baron slip ons would be a good choice but don 't really have the cash right now.If anyone has a set of Barons that they might want to trade , I have the original mufflers as well as the Samsons, both in excellent condition. If you're interested let me know.
  19. OK folks, I got my 05 QuickSilver all patched up and running like a dream again, so I am keeping it and selling my 07 RSV. But I still have a few cosmetic things to fix as I find good buys on stuff. I'd even make a special trip just to pick one up somewhere; that would make a good excuse to ride! My right muffler has some ugly road rash on the front of it, so I need a replacement. Anyone have a stock, unmodified RH RSV muffler I can pick up at a nice price? Alternatively, how about a pair of stock, unmodified RSTD mufflers? Or a pair of unmodified Road King mufflers? I could also use the right Y pipe and the right rear crash bar.
  20. What is the diameter of the headpipe where the muffler fits over? thought someone might readily know this without me having to tear mine completely apart to measure it. found some aftermarket mufflers I am thinking about trying out. Thanks Craig
  21. OK folks I just picked up Harley touring mufflers off e-bay. Now I have read about the modification 1-4. These are still original I do not know what year bike they came off of, but the left one has a catalyst in it. What now? How can I modify this one compare to the other side? Should I install them the way they are now and try first? Can they be modified? Thanks.
  22. I don't know if this has been covered before or not, so I'm asking. When you install RK mufflers on a Venture has anyone noticed that at the joint there is a exhaust leak?I put high temp silicone on the joint and used new RK clamps. The left side seems worst then the right side.I took them off several times and moved the clamp to different positions.Right now the bolt on the clamp is at the bottom and is covering the slits of the muffler at the top and bottom. Each time the mufflers were removed new high temp silicone was applied. Is this problem something that has to lived with or does anyone have a solution?
  23. i have seen a post on drilling mufflers but thanks to another member on this board {sorry dont remember the name} anatomy of a muffler i have found i cannot do it this certain way with my mufflers. i have the cones and if i took them off i would have the middle pipe sticking out. my question is how is the best way to do this? thanks alot
  24. Me and the wife went on a 250 mile lunch run today. We wanted Texas Roadhouse badly but the one in Orange Park is usually crowded. We took 90 all the way to Lake City where TRH is rarely packed and we had a great lunch. Getting back up on 75 then I-10, we were running about 80. As I hit Jax and got on I 295, I felt fatigued. So did Jean and she was complaining about a headache. It hit us that the Road King mufflers, which are drilled out, was invading my space and seemed louder than ever. Now, I love the way they sound in local driving, but at highway speeds, it is now grating on me. So, I just might have to go back and install the stock mufflers for long highway trips. And you thought you had tough decision to make in your life, huh?
