  1. 1 week ago I got rid of ATT and Dish network and went to comcast (finally high speed). I wanted a new home phone number and had it listed with only my initials and not to give out my new number when the old one was called. The next day the tele-markerters started calling. Phone was ringing off the hook. I went on line to the National No Call list and signed up. Still getting calls. I know that tele-marketers are just tring to make a living so I try to be nice. Usally just say not interested and please add me to your no call list. Got to admit the last call a few minutes ago caught me at a bad time. Phone rang and when I answered the guy asked for Mrs. Sabin, I answered. "No more Mrs. Sabin, I shot her and burried her in the basement". Long pause and the guy laughs and says " I was calling about cemertary plots but I see you have it already taken care of". We had a good laugh and I asked him to put me on his no call list and we hung up. True story, just happened about 20 minutes ago while I was reading posts on VentureRider.org. But how long does the no-call thing take?
  2. Yesterday while contemplating my 1st Gen to do list I realized that it was about time to do a another tear down. The todo list as it stands now: Fork seal replacement............Again Front tire replacement..........Again Probably rear tire too Avon Venoms this time Might as well replace brake pads..........Again Body part replacement customization and repair....Again Change up the paint Job............Again Intake O-ring seal leak 2 cylinders Re-synch Carbs New Diaphrams on sliders Valve clearence pad check & replace (really dreading this one but RandyR said he would help) Replaceing rear crash bars and trailer hitch with new ones new mufflers Accent lighting rewire. So, I was reiterating the list to a buddy over a happy hour drink yesterday when he offered for me to come get his 2nd Gen Midnight Venture and ride it while my bike was down. Now that's a friend for you.
  3. At last some time to go for a real ride and see how well the old girl runs. No map and just road signs to guide the way. OK, OK well I forgot the map, but, the other way I said it sounds way more tough!! I started out and headed ot to Calibogie from Ottawa then after a few back roads I went through Algonquin park to Huntsville. Then to North Bay for a coffee and supper. From there I went back to Ottawa via hwy 17. About 1000KM in a day. I just kept pushing myself. The old girl handled everything with power to spare. Treat the bike well and I think she will be nice to me for years. Actually had to watch the speed because the ride was so smooth. The night driving was a bit hard on me but some more lights should help. Next on the list is a camper so I can really do some driving and spend some nights in interesting areas. Mind you it's a small list with out much cash. I want to head out sometime and see the desert. Just thought I would share!!
  4. Since I started doing my own maintenance I wanted some method of documentation. So I made a master check list and removed items not needed during each scheduled maintenance. I put short notes on the 'action taken' and staple receipts for oil and plugs etc. to the back. I then keep all of these in a file. if ever needed I will at least have some documentation. If this works for anyone else feel free to use them. Mike
  5. A couple of years ago, someone posted a copy of the VR Assistance List as either a .pdf file or as a Word Doc. this made it easy to download to a PDA and to easily print so I could carry a hard copy of it on our trip. Well, we have another big trip coming up in a few weeks, and it would be nice to have a copy of it on my Droid cell phone. Anyone have a suggestion on the easiest way to do this? Thanks & Be Safe! Pete. _______________ Oops! Never mind. I just found it. Just like my keys. I gotta ask first.
  6. I am again wanting to do an attendance list of emergency numbers for folks coming to Asheville this year. Thankfully, we did not have to use the info for a crash situation, but it was used a couple of times to retrieve a bike that had a mechanical problem, and some coordinating of meet-ups. I would like to use this format so I can just do a cut & paste: It also helps if you keep it a simple font and no color. Your name(s), phone numbers, where staying, estimated arrival, emergency contact number with name or relationship. Randy Atkins 423-726-0431 , KOA, Wed noon, 423-335-1484/423-257-8666, son Please forward it to my home email; rsatkins@comcast.net or PM me here. I will have copies for everyone upon arrival and will be glad to e-mail you a copy before you leave of the info I have by Tuesday night. Thanks, RandyA

  8. OK, I was probably the first rider to post a complaint about the Venom sever sidewall cracking back in '06 after Susanville. Twice. Avon warantee'd both front tires. What I'm wondering is just how many members have experienced sidewall cracking, and on how many tires. So let's start a list. Not interested in all the gorey details, just the facts listed below. PM me and I'll add your info to the list. From all the posts and threads about Avon tires cracking, I'd like to know just how many members are experiencing the problem. This is an after thought, but if you haven't experienced any cracking I'd like to hear from you also. All I'll need would be miles on the tire(s) and number of year(s) on the bike. I just think members are expeiencing way too much sidewall cracking, and sooner or later someone's going to throw a cap and get hurt. Although Avon has been very good on warantees, so far I don't think we've been given the straight story on sidewall cracking. I need the number of tires cracked, milage when replaced, warantee'd?, DOT date, and date replaced. Follow this link to see the results. AVON CRACKING
  9. Got to mark an item off the bucket list on Saturday. My parents got to an age they didn't feel comfortable on their Gold Wing any longer and switched over to a Miata. They had a fundraiser Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway and I had the opportunity to take their car for 5 laps. It was a blast, they kept us below 65, but on a steep half mile track you could still have some fun. Here's a pic my wife took as we were pulling on to the track. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/BMS.jpg
  10. how am i ever going to thank all my frends, have over 50, so guess i just want to thank all of you,god this is a great group to part of lowell
  11. Leaving out in the morning for a 3 day ride around the northern perimeter of Georgia. Does anyone know of a link to the vr assisstance list????? Never know, I might need some of ya'lls help along the way!!!
  12. I was just watching an interesting show on TV. They were talking about a "Bucket List". That is... what's on your list of things you'd really like to do before you "kick the bucket". Thought it would make for an interesting read here...to see what other's lists are. Here's some of mine that quickly come to mind... Spend at least a year touring Canada & the USA on a motorcycle, with a nice tent trailer in tow and my honey on the back seat. Take a ride in a jet fighter and maybe even get to fly it some. Drive an indy race car. Skydive Have a nicely equipped shop and build a custom car or a hot rod Move to the country and live in a log house on the edge of a nice lake with my own dock and a nice boat. (guess I'd better start buying more lotto tickets for some of these!)
  13. According to MSN ... http://autos.ca.msn.com/motorsports/gallery.aspx?cp-documentid=24077186 hmmmmm... not one Yamaha made the list!
  14. For some reason, I can not contact you in private messaging, We made plans for next years tour and Im sadly to say That you are first on my list.
  15. Today I started fixing the one last thing that dose not work right on my 1985 VR, The gas light/guage & warning light always says that there is no gas. I took apart my front screen and everything to get at the back of the main console to clean the plugs and conections. now that everything is pluged back together the start up check list dose not come on and it will dimly flash upon key turn. Thanks,
  16. See Link: http://www.tachyoninc.com/HTML%20Manuals/2010%20XC%20English%20Manual%20HTML.html Hope to have this in 2 weeks or so. I done LOTS of Research and this should be on your research list too for consideration.
  17. I am looking for the list to see where to send the pro dvd to. Can some one tell me where to find it Please
  18. I just purchased a Zumo660 and a Samsung U450 cell phone. I know of a person from the Zumo forums that has the same phone and has no problems using it with the Zumo. I am able to pair them and they talk to each other and both list each other but I am getting a message on the phone "connected as data mode M" and then the Zumo disconnects. I've tried phone to the Zumo and the Zumo to the phone and get the same result! I contacted Garmin and they tell me because the phone is not on their list they can't offer me any help. Any Ideas ????? Thanks Keith
  19. Where do I find the "Ride like a pro" List at....I just received the CD and need to know where and who to send it too next... Thanks
  20. Will a sear shock off an '05 and up fit on an '04 and down? The picture on the Yamaha parts list is different and the part # is different. It's also cheaper than the older one.
  21. OK, for lack of a better name that's all I could think of to call it. When I visit VR.org I pick up this website in the browsing history http://img121.imagehacks.info/img121/10 It doesn't take me anywhere when I try to go to it, can't get any properties info on it, and it only shows up when I visit VR.org. I'm a little concerned because of the 'hacks'. Anyone know what's going on?? Could we have some sort of crawler working the site?? I see it when I want to go back several pages and use the hot list to the right of the forward/back arrows.
  22. Just ordered another Dunlop whitewall for the rear and I'm going to be brave enough to change it out myself (with the help of you guys). I have looked in the Tech talk but maybe there is something somewhere that gives me more info. I notice you also say to grease the splines, etc so I'm adding that to the list. Looking for feedback..........thanks fellows.

Thanks in Advance! - Jared
  25. A while ago, we tried to do this and it was funny, so let's try again. I will start out with a beginning of a story and you all add to it. It could be fun. The VentureRider's group were planning a Meet & Eat in Nashville, Tennessee. Everyone in the area was coming to it, including Squidley and Lonna. The list of members who were coming to the event was growing bigger every day, until the big day came when the absolute worst thing could of happen, which was.............................................. Keep the story going now! Yama Mama:big-grin-emoticon:
