Well folks, the days are just flying by, and Cody will be upon us sooner than any of us can realize. SO, here's a serious question. How many plan on taking part in the Chili Challange? We need to know soon as there are sdministrative issues that need to be taken care of to make sure that the participants will have the equipment they need to cook up their challange.

I am having a couple issues with my bike that I would like some input on. The first is a "popping" sound when the bike is cold, sounds like a bad exhaust gasket but only last for the first few minutes when I start it then goes away. Second is a small backfire through the carbs when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and on up but almost never from 1st to second. Third bad fork seals from factory? My new fork seals seem to be leaking already with less than 100 miles on them. And lastly are the turn signals. They are weird, blink 3 times then a pause then blink 3 times then pause and so on, any ideas? This is quite a list but any help would be rather appreciated. My wife found an 87 for $1000 but I refuse to give up on this old scoot. Shaun

Anyone have one? What do you like about it? What don't you like? Issues? Did you switch from a 550 to 665? If so do you like the 550 or 665 better and why? Is the only difference between 660 and 665 is XM?

some one I know is selling his 2005 Ultra Classic with 45,000mi and is giving me a heck of a deal due to he needs $$$ I wanted to ask the family here who owns a Ultra what to look out for? as per say "taken to the cleaners" if you know what I mean . I don't think he would but I would feel better knowing what to look for on a HD. He sent couple of photos and first thing I saw in the photo is the right muffler has been kinda hot like blueish gold color? asked him about this and he said it was due to the cat.converter in the muffler? all ultra Classic have this issue? other than that this Ultra is in great shape never been down or dropped He bought this bike with 3,000mi and as far as I know there has been no issues or break downs that I can think of other than just tires and oil changes he said he just had the 40,000 maintenance done with 45,000mi on the clock is there any issues I need to be aware on 2005 model Thanks Buddy

So .... Having completed the IBA SaddleSore 1000 on my XS750, I am in desperate need of something comfier ... It needs some love, and I shall give it some. It needs minor things in the main, but they add up to quite a bit of work, so I will be busy.

Went on a nice ride from Colorado Springs to Castle Rock and back with my wife today. It was still a little chilly in the morning but afternoon wasn't too bad (except through the higher country). But we didn't need any chaps or overly heavy garments, so I count that good. Two issues I did have. 1. First time using my JM headsets...they are the original pair I got from previous owner. They seem to work well (although had to modify helmet because they were so think they pressed against my ears). The only issues is when I turn the IC up loud enough to hear well, I pick up so much wind noise it's crazy. I guess it's wind noise because I don't hear it when stopped but when going highway speeds it sounds like white noise... 2. Something's wrong with my cruise control. I turn it on, hit the set button let go of gas and it will drop 5-10 mph before trying to engage. Then it will attempt to engage but as soon as it does, it drops out of cc and the Res light comes on...I can click on the Resume button and the Res light starts to blink, but once again, as soon as I feel the cc start to kick in, it drops back out of cruise and the Res light comes on solid again...not sure what's going on...I tried it when I first got the bike from PO 6 months ago but haven't really used it since then...

I'm beginning to look for a newer 2ng gen. Have heard some 2007s had a head casting issue. Is this real and any other issues on 2005 and newer models? -
Struggling with a little electrical issue and could use some help. I'll give you the background. 1) Noticed that the trip meter would be at zero after I left the bike for a few days between riding. 2) Riding down the road and the dashboard (speedometer, odometer, trip meter) was not on. 3) Shut off the bike and tried to start the bike and the electrical dashboard was erratic and wouldn't start. Turned key back and forth. Turned kill switch back and forth. Light would come on. When I pressed the start button the dash would turn off. Then suddenly the bike started. 4) Drove bike home several hours and shut off and no issues. 5) Took off later that day and no issues. Turned bike off for breif period and tried to turn back on and same issues as #3. Finally started and drove home. NOTE: I did have some electrical work done a couple months on. Rewired riding lights and some rear lights. The gentleman that did the work was quite competent I believe. Appreciate any thoughts you might have. Thanks, Bob

Been home from work the last 4 days. The right knee that I had surgery on less than 2 years ago is failing. Im scared to get the knee replacement I need. Several friends who have had it are now having scar tissue problems along with mobility issues. Right now riding is out of the question. Had to take 4000 mg of naproxen last friday just to get through the night at work, which is causing some other issues. Thats 3000mg more then recommended. Selling the bike was also a thought, fleeting as it may have been. So, I have some major thinking to do...... Now, where are my drugs......

Beth and I both have J+M headsets for our half helmets. I forget the model #, but they install by slipping them in between the liner and the shell of the helmet. This year we installed the mic-mutes, and I love them. We have the show krome windshield on the bike, so Beth experiences quite a bit of buffeting and wind noise. The speakers cover our ears very well, and we both experience some heat issues and are generally not happy with the speaker quality. So, to get to my question... Can I adapt a set of ear buds to replace the speakers? If so...how do I do it? By doing so, we can rid ourselves of the heat issue in the warm weather...(we really noticed it on our last vacation ride to Texas), and improve the sound quality at the same time. I'm a novice at this type of retro fitting...so some very plain instructions would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance. gunk:hurts:

I notice now with Firefox that I cannot copy/cut and paste like I could with IE. Anyone else having these issues. It also takes longer to load on some forums and to post. Im not too happy with it. Any one else have any issues too with it?

I'm going to replace the FM radio antenna on my '86 VR with a totally different kind of amplified antenna. So, I'm getting rid of one antenna mast. Ok, so the question is when I followed the antenna lead up under the seat and the false tank cover I found the weirdest collaboration of splitters and antenna cables I have ever seen. Does anybody know the reason for the splitter? I would rather just connect it straight to the antenna input at the radio, would that cause any issues?

Has anyone used Rotella oil? A buddy of mine said he used it on his venture with no issues. What type of Rotella should I use if any?

It appears that I am starting to have issues with my 08 Veture Fuel Sensor. When I fill up, it shows I am down 3 Bars, No Bars when I still have about 60 miles worth of Gas and No warning light with no Bars. Is there a quick fix Luke an additive etc. or is it just gone duff and needs waranty replacement?

Hello all, I have decided after some looking around... ok A LOT of looking around that I like this venture bike quite a bit. I am a technician by trade and understand most issues when encountered but I also know that every machine has it's own little quirks that can only be understood by owning and riding. I need to know what (if any) major issues to look for on the 1986 Royale 1300cc (2nd generation?)... at least that is how it's advertised... and am about to drive a long way to check it out! I'm ready to buy, and to own my first full blown touring bike... a bit excited, yet weary at the same time. Any help here? Thanks, Kelly kjp40.05@gmail.com

i am at wits end i have a 86 venture having spark issues on no.1 cylinder it wont spark at idle but works at 4000 rpm i have replaced the coil,the wire and the boot with no positve results can anyone give me a solution instead of scrapping the bike like everyone says thank you everyone

Hi all, just got a 83 Venture xvz12 and have some headlamp issues. Somewhere down the line someone jumped the headlamp power wire directly to the headlamp. All I have is lowbeam and the icon on the display is lit up and a flashing warning lite. I suspect the Reserve lighting unit may be bad, I have battery voltage going to it at the green/red wire if I remember correctly. Is there a way to test this unit or bypass it? What exactly does this unit do? The manual does not seem to be a wealth of info here. Any other suggestions? Any input greatly appreciated,thanks, Neil. -
I have an 83. Typically runs pretty good but having some issues. 1) Have to use choke to start it now. Didn't used to need to. 2) Smokes quite a bit when starting. Not impacting oil. 3) Slow off the start. 4) Having a hard time keeping it going. Idle doesn't seem to be enough. Dies at stop. 5) Notice on the highway that every 10 seconds or so the RPMs will drop from 3500 to 3300 for a split second. Would appreciate any insight you might have. Thanks Bob

We don't have to register our trailers here in Tennessee. I heard someone say last week, that my trailer has to be registered, because some states require it. Is this true? I will be pulling my trailer to Ohio next month for MD, and don't want any issues.

Hi Guys, I could with a bit of advice here.I have a 2000 Royal star venture. My Speedometer stopped working the other day, I have checked fuses and all are OK. I'm thinking the problem is the speed sensor, how do you check these things? Other issues I'm having is indicators wont self cancel, cruise control wont work, engine management light comes on if I hit the rev limiter, I think all these issues can be attributed to a faulty speed sensor. I thought there was a self diagnosis system that checks the speed sensor but that doesn't seem to work even when I disconnect the sensor. Any advice would be much appreciated

A HUGE thank you to V7Goose!! I made the ride to Texas this past weekend where V7Goose provide me with a one on one maintenance clinic. Here are just a few things done and covered: 1. Set the floats in the carbs 2. Sync the carbs 3. Adjusted steering head 4. Corrected wiring issues in passing light bar 5. Corrected the manufactures defect and dealer error issues with light bar 6. Installed and balanced new rear tire 7. Check and greased rear wheel assembly 8. Installed "levelizers" and adjusted air pressure in shocks Kent (V7Goose) provided information, service and hospitality greater than expected or deserved. I resently has a crash and I've been able to replace the parts but I've been having some issues with allignment. I need to be able to see a Venture to compare the alignment and I also need some help with some bending. Is there anyone near the Buford area that would be able to help out? I'll buy the beer.

My wife complains that the back rest on my 07 RSTD is uncomfortable. I attend to agree. It sits you too straight up and has no recline. The two back rest rizers also should be possioned about two inches rearward. Has anyone else have the issue? Is there a fix? Would a Venture rear seat set-up work on a RSTD? Any assistance to could afford would be helpful. Thanks
