  1. I have just started looking at GPS units and need some basic info. I know that they are tied into satellites and they have different maps that they use. The info I need is how are you satisfied with what you have and what kind it is. Also the best price that you have seen for the unit that you have. As I see it there is basiclly only 2 kinds, the Tom Tom and the Zumo. Are there different brands that are out there that I just haven't been able to find or is that it? Does everything that is needed to hook the unit up and be useable come with it, or is there more that is needed? Any info will be appreciated. Don H.
  2. I saw an interesting article on Saskatchewan today in CNN, basically backing up that we have the best economy in North America right now for creating jobs. If anyone is looking for work and wants more info just msg me and ill try to help you. http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/03/04/saskatchewan.economy/index.html#cnnSTCText Brian
  3. this is not an update on the rally, but i just wanted to relate to alot of the new members what it's all about. it is the main event every year for the venture riders. this year it will be at the hub motorcycle resort in ar., 9 miles south of harrison ar. all members are invited and it is your chance to really get involved and meet lots of fine people and make many new friends. it will be a chance to let your hair down and relax and get away from all your problems for a couple of days. we are going to have rides , vendors, activities for the kids, lots of food, games, sight seeing in some of the best touring areas in the usa, bar none. and more things we haven't thought of yet. if any one has any questions ,you can pm me, and check out all the info under rides and rallies. bill
  4. The better 1/2 and I decided to take our summer ride in the Black Hills this year during last week in June. We wanted to spend a few days in the Hills, riding around and checking out the countryside. Any info on "must-see" places, (besides the big heads, of course), roads to ride, spots for the best scenic vistas, quiet motels (or motels to avoid), tourist traps to avoid, etc. etc. would be appreciated. We were looking at going to Wind Cave and Jewel Cave - are they worth seeing? On the way back to WI, we are thinking of going thru ND - is there anything in ND...................anywhere................worth seeing? :-) Thanks
  5. I am sure this is going to start a debate but I am going to change the oil in the bike and switch to syn. So far all I have seen is Mobil 1 and its almost 9 bucks a qt. I seen the rotella in a blue bottle that I seen some here use but it doesnt say motorcycle safe on it that I seen? Were is everyone getting there oil at? Thanks for info Kevin
  6. If I have the correct info the Dunlop E2 tires are going to be hard to find, if available at all. I have a practically new E2 on the rear of my 88VR and can't really afford to replace both tires this year, especially considering the condition of the rear tire. Does anybody know if i can safely "mix" an E3 for the front with my existing E2 on the rear? Or does anybody have contact info for Dunlop so I can ask them?
  7. Hello guys I just bought an '86 VXZ13 DSC from a guy from southern Cal last fall. Now I get to repaint, refurbish and restore it. It's a great bike, 28K miles, everything works and it handles like they knew what they were doing when they put it together. Progressive springs in the front, and new Avon Venoms. I'm getting psyched about this summer. Now for my problems... Like I said, I bought it from a guy in California. I live in God's country ( Colorado ) at about 6500 feet. I want to get rid of all that crap they put on it in california for their damn government. What I want to know, if anyone has the info or knows where to get the info, is what I can get rid of and change so I can go over the Rocky Mtns with a little power. It runs extremely rich right now. Jets, floats, needles and slides....anything that will give me a little more omph and better my gas mileage. Right now, I'm probably getting 23-28 miles a gallon in the city ( haven't been on a long trip yet ) Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I have a set of carb synchronizers if anyone near Denver needs to get their carbs synch'ed. Thanks Ken
  8. I have seen somewhere that this can be done. I looked for a "How To" but found nothing. Maybe someone who has done this mod could share technical info, parts used etc..... Thanks
  9. Hi All, Been looking for another bike since we sold our Nomad. Our friend has a 99 RSV and loves the bike. I have looked at different RSV but haven't bought one yet. All the bikes I have found have less than 20k on them but one thing or another has kept me from a purchase. I am looking at one with 50k on it and that is a concern to me. The man wants 9k for the bike but I don't know if that is about right for a bike with that many miles on it or not. Any info one way or another would be greatly appreciated. By the way its a 07. Look forward to any info you all might have. Thanks Butch
  10. Well i am trying to run the khrome werks exhaust again on the venture. I have made sure that it has no vacum leaks and no exhaust leaks. The pipes sound great , no backfires when shifting, but on decel a lot of pop, pop, pop. Not loud, more like a gurgle. Have also just done a carb sync. Is this just something that you have to live with when changing exhausts? P.s. - also have already sealed the small leak at exhaust y pipes. Any info would be great.
  11. I have a 1997 rstd and was wondering if anyone had tried a mutazu db trunk and if they were happy or unhappy with the product. I don't want to cobble something together but need more storage and it would be much more comfortable for my wife. Any info would be appriciated. Thanks, Thumper1

  14. Howdy Just acquired on my birthday, a 05 RSTD in great shape after being a VTX guy. Huge upgrade. Live in Northern Nevada been riding since 1968 (YR1) from Nortons to HD to BMWers but back to the Metrics for class. I'd like to shave my OEM seat and hear that Rick Butler does a fantastic job of contouringn the seat to let you ride the bike. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance Norm
  15. I tried a search but couldn't find anything. I have a 99 RSV and one speaker isn't working. Right front. Clarion 090-0051-47. It has power to the speaker but won't do anything. Any info on where to get one? Thanks:Venture:
  16. I'm trying to find out if there is any other air filter and housing that can be used on a 2nd Gen Venture. I called Yamaha and asked if they could give me the cfm draw of a stock filter and housing. They told me that was info that they could not give out. So I've been posting on another site and thougt I would post here to see if anyone else might have some knowledge on the subject. I got some info on another forum of someone using these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-Kawasaki-Suzuki-Yamaha-NEW-Chrome-Air-Filter-45mm_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35595QQihZ012QQitemZ220310739471QQtcZphoto They have had good results and have not had to rejet. Also someone found this company that sounds like they could make an adaptor plate to fit the application. http://www.vesquared.com/ramflo/index.htm The problem here is we don't know the cfm of the stock Venture. Just trying to come up with something else that would not require rejeting and would not cause problems (running lean or rich). I'm not mechanicly smart and just looking for something to bolt on. Also a way to dress up the Venture without spending lots of cash!!!!!

  19. I'm sure this has been discussed, but I can't find it. What are some good quality risers that will allow me to raise the handlebars about a 1/2" and set them back about 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Thanks for any info.
  20. This is for anyone who was stationed or lived at Camp Lejeune between 1957-1987. Evidently there was some sort of chemical in the drinking water during this time. The Marines are sending out letters, but just in case you haven't heard yet thought I'd pass this on. I saw the story on our local news so I looked for info. I know we have some retired Marines on here. Just thought I'd pass it along. https://clnr.hqi.usmc.mil/clsurvey/ Margaret
  21. Does anyone have the Kurakyn Part Number for these "P" clamps which will fit on the front crash bars of a 06 Venture? Thanks in advance for the info! Regards.........Boomer

  23. Must sell wifes bike, too much bike for her. See ad for info.
  24. Just got one...as far as the installation, for those of you that have one, how did you hold it down to the tank? Did you use double sided tape like the stock rubber piece uses? Since back of it is felt I'm thinking that might not hold too well. Or don't tie it down at all? Just wondering...thanks for the info...JR
