  1. Does anyone have a source for H4 headlight plugs? I have a pair of headlights coming that I want to hook up to the stock Hi/Lo beam switch through a pair of relays. If I can get some male and female H4 plugs and sockets the wiring can be kept reversible back to stock.
  2. Hey guys, I broke my headlight while I was fitting new driving lamps and an HID unit. Does anyone have a spare headlight for a 1986 Venture Royale? Thanks
  3. The headlight indicator in the monitor on my 1983 XVZ12TK is always on when I use low-beam. The headlamp itself is on and it shines brightly, but the indicator in the monitor LCD is on and, of course, so is the flashing red LED. On high-beam, no problem. I want the red LED to warn me of real trouble. I don't want to become so accustomed to its flashing that I ignore it. So, I use high-beam all the time and crank the lamp down with the manual up-down knob to a reasonably level just to keep that annoying red LED from flashing. What I can't figure out is why this should be so. I've changed headlamps, and no change in behavior. If you have a clue, I'd love to hear it.
  4. I bought the driving lights that I will be putting onto my MK II. They are the KC HiLites series 35. I have these same lights on my truck and really like them. The lens is designed to put some light forward like a driving light, but to also fill in the sides of where the stock headlight can't reach. very little of the beam is wasted on adding light to the same areas as the stock headlight. These come with 55W halogen bulbs that I plan to replace with 35W HID. 3 forward looking HIDs should light things up pretty good at night and keep me visible in the daytime. I am thinking of mounting them to the faring on the flat area just below the air intakes. I have not taken the vent out yet to see if there is room to add a reinforcement thickness of plastic to strengthen the area. Do you think that the plastic of the faring is strong enough as is to handle the weight of the light while bouncing down the road or do I really need to strengthen it some?
  5. I had the local stealer install the Yamaha driving lights. I had them wire the lights so they are on all the time except when the high beam is on. They didn't install the switch. So now I'm thinking is that practical or even safe? I ride at night and want as much light as possible on the road. I replaced the stock headlight bulb with a PIAA intense white. I'm wondering if I should re-wire them so they are relayed through a switch and I can turn them on and off regardless of whether or not the headlight is on low or high beam. How do you run your driving lights? Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Chris in Red Deer, AB
  6. While attepmting to remove the headlight bulb tonight, the socket (where the bulb plugs into the wireing) broke. I am guessing this socket, fixture, plug, or whatchamacallit, is part of the wiring harness. Is there anything a person could use to replace this? Other than a new harness? I think that I will get this fixed and then hire someone to do things for me. Fix one thing and another breaks.:confused24: Might give up completely, go into debt, and buy a Can-Am Spder. At least then it would be warranty work. Thanks, Dave
  7. Good afternoon everyone, Both hi and low beam on my 08 RSV went out last week. I have been reading the threads on this problem and have done the starter switch lube and fuse checking. I have read there might be a possibility of the Reserve Light Unit going bad but how often is this a problem? I'm not sure as to what direction to take at this point. Its difficult to get to the headlight lamp but is it possible for both hi and low to go bad in one lamp? Any suggestions would be helpful. By the way, everything else is working fine, it's just the headlight. Thanks Frank
  8. hey everyone, Hope someone can help me with a couple things. Looking for visors for my turn signals and headlight. Already have them on running lights but they have no logo on them. would love to find the rest without logo. Does anyone know of a vender they recrecommend for this. Also can I get one onto the headlight without removing fairing ,or do I have to pull it.
  9. Ok i know mine are right...mmm or are they. Radio on right and cb on left. I was at our local dealer and seen two and one is set up like mine, The other is reversed. Dealership had deer in headlight look when i showed them that. My cb and radio works great so i'm thinking mine is correct.
  10. I have visors on my running lights, and am planning on doing my turn signal also. but in order to do the headlight on my 99RSV do I have to remove my fairing or is there a way to get it on without doing that.
  11. I have completed the installation of an HID headlight and a pair of Martin Fabrication HID running lights. Attached are some pics when off, when on, and the switches (on and off). I added a switch for the headlight since it dies during starting (voltage drop will not keep the HID burning). Am looking forward to burning a hole through the darkness soon. Need to get at least another 6 inches of snow melted off the back drive though so I can get the bike out of the shop. C'mon Spring!!! RR
  12. Tonight as I left work at 2 AM my HID went out. I didnt notice it right away until I hit a real dark stretch of road. It was then I realized that I was riding with only those dreaded LED driving lights. I cant believe how much illumination those LEDs put out. It was almost like riding with a stock headlight. I saw a nice clear band of light in front of me. Those LEDS really lit up the road. As far as the HID headlight goes, this has happened a few times before. I sent Canadian Cruiser Customizing an email and requested a replacement ballast since its still under warranty. Ill see what response I get. I cant have that light go out on me at night any more.
  13. This looks interesting. Would have to change the connector but .... Has 34 Leds in it http://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/webcart_productDisplay.php?itemid=203560&itemdesc=7%22+Headlight+with+LEDs http://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/client/images/l177330.jpg http://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/client/images/l177329.jpg
  14. I'm about to install Yamaha driving lights on my 2008 RSV. I've read all the post I can find about how to wire them using a relay until my eyes are tired. This is how I want to be able to use them. I want the ability to turn them on and off manually using a switch, not having them come on with either the hi-beam or lo-beam. I saw somewhere, and now I can't find it, a diagram of the color coded wires coming from the headlight. always on, hi-beam, lo-beam. Any help would be appreciated. I'm new to this so please be patient with me. Thanks.
  15. I have this little black box hooked into my headlight wires. It is an obvious aftermarket, or add on. It simple is a 2 wire little black something with no name on it, the two wires go from this llittle box to the ground and I think high beam power wire at the headlight. It has scotch lock style fasteners so I know it is not factory. Just cannot imagine how something that has nothing but 2 wires coming out of it "tagged onto" the headlight wires does anything, but I know its not put there for looks LOL Again the headlight wires are NOT cut and this thing put in as something the power is running through, it is simply tagged into the wires by use of scotchlocks which I do not like.
  16. I have on order, soon to arrive, a set of HID driving lights from Martin Fabrication. Combined with the (newly replaced) HID headlight from Canadian Custom Cruisers, this should create a light path that will sear the retinas out of Bambi!! Will likely need to turn off my standard driving lights when these beasts fire up, but that's OK. The standard driving lights would just be illuminated bug catchers compared to the (claimed) light output of the HIDs. May need to install the stator upgrade next winter. Martin Fab also has a really cool waterproof switch for turning on these lights. I bought two switches so I can turn on/off the HID headlight also. If the HID headlight is on when you start the bike, it often goes off and doesn't come back on. Will post pics once they are installed. I'm sooooo ready for spring. http://www.martinfabrication.com/Martin_Fabrication/Motorcycle_Driving_LIghts.html Not the most user friendly website, but the owner seems to be a good guy. RR
  17. Figured there was no sense joining yet another forum. All the smart folks are here. Got a 2003 Honda Recon atv. One of the headlight is very dim. Is it most likely just need a new bulb or is that light not getting enough voltage. No, I have not yet swapped bulbs to check, so maybe I should not even be posting this yet.
  18. :Im not listening toI am somewhat embarrassed to ask this question but I have all you members out there that could help me with this problem. I bought the Yamaha Light covers for the running lights and the headlight. I installed the running lights with no problem. I took the bolt off of the headlight thinking that the chrome ring would come off but its refusing to come off the cowling. My question is, do I have to remove the complete front cowling to get the chrome cover off so as I can lock the visor in place?? I have a maintenance manual and it does not cover anything about removing the front chrome covering on the headlight. My owners manual also does not cover this area. Thanks in advance. Dan
  19. I'm taking down the fairing on my 1st gen. MkI to do some much needed electrical work. I got stuck at the headlight adjuster knob. I can't see any type of set screw or anything holding it on. I tried prying up from underneath, but didn't want to try too hard. Anyone with a word of wisdom?
  20. I'm trying to take out my headlight bulb to replace it but I can't figure how to reach it. I've read the manual, read some of the posts and am still confused. Do you reach it from the front side or the back side? The front headlight assembly has one screw at the bottom. If you remove this does it allow you to slide out the headlight assembly and access to the bulb or do you try to reach in from the back amidst the maize of wires and try to access it from there? Thank you for your help in advance. Chris
  21. Hi, I changed out the stock bulb with a PIA Extreme White headlight bulb. It is considerably brighter than the stock bulb. Anyone else ever use a PIA bulb in their headlight? I'd be curious to know how you liked it or the difference in other bulbs some people have used. Thank you in advance.
  22. Can someone direct me to a 'How To' guide on the removal/installation of a speedo cable? I've removed the windshield and headlight assy. and can touch the connection point with one finger but can't for the life of me figure out how to route the cable and then attach it. Do I need to do more dis-assembly? On a related topic, I noticed that all the rubber holders for the relays behind the headlight have dry rotted and broken. Anyone have a suggestion for making repairs. Might not hurt anything the way they are, but I sure don't want 'em bangin' around in there...
  23. Well, I just bought a 1987 Venture Royale with only 59,000 km (about 36,875 miles) on it. Seems the guy I bought it from put 40,000 of those km's on it over the past 6 years so he took care of all the "rotting while it sat unused problems" (I hope). He had the valves adjusted and the carbs cleaned and balanced 10,000 km ago and just put new tires (Metzelers) and brakes on it. Now to my problem...a rock knocked a small hole in the headlight cover 4 years ago and the owner put clear silicone seal on it right away. It seems to have kept out water, etc. but I would still like to replace it. There are a number of them for sale on ebay. Most are '83's to '84's but there are also two '86's. I know there were a number of changes made in '86 and I was wondering which other year of cover might fit besides the '87. Any help would be appreciated.
  24. Got my LED Driving Lights in today from www.greenboatstuff.com and I can say they are bright. Now I guess I will have to go to the LED headlight though because now my headlight looks dim. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n315/rlyons_photos/Venture/DSC00328Large.jpg http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n315/rlyons_photos/Venture/DSC00327Large.jpg
  25. Can someone tell me how to adjust the headlight on my 1999 RSV? I know how to adjust it up and down, But need info on side to side. As of right now the head light is aimed more to the far left than normal. Also do I need to split the fairing to do this?
