1. How do I adjust the headlight on a 2nd Gen? Do I have to remove the Headlight ring? Craigr
2. I have visers on my running lights but not my headlight. Would like to add to headlight and signals. can anyone tell me if you can but a viser on headlight without removing the fairing. P.S. thank You to all who have put on pictures of M D day in Oberlin. looked like fun, hope I can make it next year.
3. hello people got a code of E4 on the computer, book says something about solenoid output? did the whole wire check and jumping to insure the compressor is working and the valves and yes all clicking and working, but there is a relay underneath headlight how do you check that or would that even be my problem sure could use help thanks
4. I own a 2007 VR and would like brighter headlight and passing lights . Some of my rideing is done late at night (I work 4pm to 12am ) and I don't feel that the stock bulbs are bright enough for me to see all the 4 legged critters , big and small . Would like to know what others have tried and use , would like to get the brightest possible. Don't care if I look like a plane landing on a runway . Just want the light to be bright as possible . I have my passing lights hooked up so that when I turn on my high beams they come on and they are off on low beam . Thanks for any help .
5. I think I know how you are supposed to adjust your headlight, but not sure where you do the adjustment on the headlight. I see two small recessed horizontal screws one on each side at the bottom of the headlight. If this is the adjustment then, facing the headlight, which screw is for the vertical and which for the horizontal? I've tried turning them and can't see the difference. If this is not it, then where? Thanks for any help!
6. Duplication from another post on the "watering hole".
7. I have a '99 RSTD. The other morning I lost power to the headlight, speedo, and brake light. I found the fuse panel with the 20 amp fuse for the headlight and it looks like it had a big meltdown. I pulled the fuse out with a pair of needle nose pliers ( it was melted and came out in about three pieces). I cleaned up the fuse panel, put another fuse in and all is OK now with the headlight and speedo light but I have no brake light. I changed the bulb and still no luck. Is there a separate fuse block with a fuse for the brake light? The previous owner put a modulator in for the brake light but I don't think that has anything to do with it. Thanks for any help.
8. I have an 88 venture. The headlight is not working. From what I can tell the headlight power wire comes from the fuse to the starter switch on the right handle grip. From there it goes to the headlight. I am getting power from the fuse to the switch but nothing out. Is the starter switch a momentary switch that shuts the power off to the headlight when starting? Is there a way that I can clean the switch or something I can do with it. I took it apart and it looked alright to me. If not would it hurt anything to simply by pass the switch. I hate to get into doing thing like that but I have spent way to much on this bike and i am not spending anymore. I will sell it first. Thanks for any help Curtis
9. Just finished installing a HID headlight in my 05 RSTD from Canadian Cruiser Customizing. Have to say this was one of the easiest changes to do. Everything was plug and play and went together very easy. The hardest part is running the positive back to the battery. I zip tied my ballast to the back of the bracket that the headlight mounts too. Looks like you could also install it on the backside of the mount for windshield, but I didn't feel like taking everything back apart. Haven't had it out at night to tell the difference, but the installation was simple.
10. Please help! On the way down to Panama City yesterday my low beam went out along with the driving lights. I still have the high beam, and the headlight fuse is OK. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions before I search for the dealer here? Also, if the bulb simply needs changed, how do I do that? The owner's manual and the service manual are not much help...
11. My lens is cracked and I can't find just a lens for sale anywhere, the only way I can see to buy it is the whole assembly with the mounting flange and adjusters for like $125 at the cheapest. Anyone know of a place that sells just the glass? or have any cheap alternative to replace it? Would it be possible to just use a plain sealed beam headlight even?
12. I've been thinking about adding a relay to power the headlight hi/lo directly from the battery, essentially bypassing the connection through the CMU. It could be done using one relay with normally closed going to the lo beam with the switched circuit going to the hi beam operated by the dimmer switch. Or alternatively using one relay for each of the hi and lo beams. I pulled this quote from another thread. Gary what relay option did you use? The first one would seem the simplest but may not allow the lo beam to be shut off by the start circuit.
13. hi guys, just wanted to say I've installed an HID headlight conversion kit on my Midnight Venture and wow.. talk about sweeeeeet! Installation was rather quick and easy, mostly all plug and play and instead of burning a 55/65W headlight, now I'm burning a 35W HID (Hi / Lo single bulb). They achieve the hi lo beam by means of an actuator that retracts the bulb into a housing etc. Neat.. they do warn you not to flash them fast though. But they assured me its 100% ok for normal usage.. just don't flip them hi lo rapidly.. How bright? wow, I was impressed. it 'throws' lights well ahead of you, illuminating everything well. Dang.. and I thought my last 'super bulb' was good.. Installation is simple and easy to do. Its MUCH easier to do this part with the bucket removed from the bike, simple to do.. You remove the H4 bulb and install the HID H4 bulb in, with the weather seal behind it. Re-install the bucket into place and run your cables. Depending how much stuff you're already hiding under the fairing, you'll have to figure out where to install everything. There is a slim ballast which I velcro'd to the right side of the inner fairing (throttle side of the bike). Plug in all the cables and leads, you can't mess this up as they are all one size for each and weather sealed. You can ground the unit within the fairing frame but will need to run a new power lead back to the battery through the fairing, under the fuel tank to reach the battery. There is a 10A fuse provided which I cut and moved down to the battery area. If I blow the fuse, I certainly don't want to rip the fairing apart to reach it Once everything is tightened up and tucked away, turn on the ignition. The light flashes brightly as it ignites and then warms up to a bright white light rather quickly, especially when it's cold. If the light is already warm you don't notice the flash up when you start. I left it on for 30 mins to make sure I wouldn't have any heat issues and I couldn't feel any heat from any of the components such as the ballast or relay etc.. However, the headlight itself is warm. Did I say it was BRIGHT? hehe.. I'll have to adjust it by trial and error so I don't get cagers flashing me all night long.. Additionally, I also installed the Afterburner LED highway lights on my engine guards. They don't really stand out at all in bright daylight, but cloudy days, dusk and especially at night they are rather eye piercing from any angle.. wow. I hope to have photos of these lights later this week depending on the weather. The HID kits and Afterburner lights can be obtained from this Canadian company at an amazing price, the owner is super helpful, even called me after I left him an email asking about some of the components I was working on. http://canadiancruisercustomizing.com/ http://canadiancruisercustomizing.com/images/hid_kit.jpg http://canadiancruisercustomizing.com/images/afterburnerdl.jpg
14. Hi guys (and gals), Hope all are enjoying the early spring. The other night I took the Venture out (89 model) and did not get far. Headlight was pointing down towards the ground. Tried the adjusting nut, no change. Next day I went to investigate. Took the front headlight moulding off, and lo and behold, the freaking headlight unit is attached with 2 wire ties, were I am assuming there should be 2 bolts. I don't know what I have gotten into, bike came with a clear title but all kinds of alarms are going off. Did I get a wrecked bike that was rebuilt? Confidence is low right now.
15. Thinking about some kind of headlight protection for the Alaska trip. Anyone tried this 3M product? I have their paint protection product on the Space Shuttle (RV) and it seems to work good. http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motorcycle-headlight/
16. I am a new member, having recently purchased a 2005 RSTD here in Australia. I have been looking at other members' photos of their bikes and reading all your comments looking for ideas to copy. One thing I have noticed in the photos is that my headlight rim seems to be different from all the photos of bikes owned by members in the US. Mine is just a plain round rim and the ones in the photos seem to have a built in hood that looks great. My question is: is this an accessory sold in US or do RSTDs sold in the US come standard with this rim? I am also wondering if anyone knows how I can find out if the hooded rim will fit my headlight. I know it's a big ask but a part number for the rim would be great. If anyone can provide me with this information, perhaps someone could also let me know if the rim can be bought in the US and where I could buy it. I could then contact them to find out details of the cost of the rim and shipping details to Australia. Thanks, Les.
17. Not sure why Hannigan does not have the Dealers or Hannigan them self's add this when doing the Rake Install . I have found that there is no way to adjust my headlight to to proper angle after the the rake has been added. After the rake kit is installed (my) headlight wants to shoot up into the sky. I finely got around to doing this as one of my winter projects this year. Here is my fix. The Picture below are standing in front of the bike, So I will refer the left and right in that manner. Picture (1) is both left and right NOTE: You will also need longer bolts to do this project. those should be laying around in a bag of nuts and bolts you got back from them removing all your other stuff. Picture (2) is left - with a spacer that is 2.25 thick and a washer of .065 Picture (3) is right - - with a spacer that is 3.00 thick and a washer of .065 I did this mod a while back but never got around to testing it, I did this AM while it was still dark outside with the VRtech Headlight Adjustment write-up. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1064 You will still be able to use the knob to fine tune your adjustments as well. My Findings where it was pretty much dead on, I also did my settings with the light on low beam to start with. then tested it with the high beam on. NOTE:: you will also have to re-adjust your running lights as well if you already have them installed. I think if you get close to my sizes it will still work or get you close. Any Questions feel free to email me. Jeff
18. Just in case anyone else is considering installing a headlight modulator. This is the best price I have found to date, and the unit got a very favorable write up in webbike world. http://www.headlightmodulator.com/ Hopefully this will not degenerate into a debate on whether or not one should install a modulator.
19. Well, i have managed to change out the electrics (wiring harness and all) from the 86 to my 83. The bike cranks and runs fine, everything seems to be working so far Except for the headlight and the flashers, no hi beam, no low beam. no left right or emergency flashers. the emergency flasher switch is attached to the harness. Any ideas what may be wrong?..............................front park lights are on, and i tried another headlight with the same effect.
20. I am racking my small brain , I know that there are set ups that when you have a switch activated the light will go out. This is possible isn't it? What I am trying to do is that I have BOTH my Headlight and Running lights on relays and switched power,. what I want it to put a small light pod for at least the headlight that when the headlight is OFF that the small led light is ON.. make since? they way when I forget the little light will show me to turn on your headlight dummy! I am so far liking the way I have my set-up now as I am doing so many projects that I need to keep my key on with-out the main light draining my battery . maybe I would come off the relay somehow to make this happen? Thanks for any info. Jeff
21. 90 venture high beam will not work. when hi beam switch is pressed, the headlight lamp on dash lites up, and the entire dash dims. Checked the headlight bulb and it is good. Where do we go from here? Could it be the switch itself? Its my cousin's bike, and he's trying to get it registered in San Antonio. Bought the bike in Indiana, and it was delivered to him. Thanks for any help/advice in solving this issue. If anyone lives near Mico Texas, and can help that would be cool. Its his first bike, so he's a bit at a loss here.
22. I have located a MKII headlight for my MKI and need the MKII headlight brackets/mounts. Anybody parting out a MKII? How about a photo of the area behind the MKII headlight?
23. hi again,i was wondering was there a product out there to clean the cloudy film on the windshied.i went to harbor freight and saw the headlight cleaning kit.the kit works on plastic, has anyone tried this or do i need to get a new one.
24. Whoever installed the passing lights on my '99 RSV tied them in to the yellow (High beam) wire right at the headlight. I have cured that by installing a relay which is turned on and off by the R/Y wire for the headlight. What I'm also wanting to do is add a second relay for the headlight. This way none of the lighting load is going through the ignition switch. This would also enable me to put an "emergency lighting" switch in the circuit which would allow the headlight to work, completely independent from the bike's circuits. My question here is what color wire runs to the dimmer switch? In the circuit pictured, there should be a red wire with a yellow tracer. I found the R/Y wire which powers the headlight, but it goes into a plug only to come out the other side as a solid blue wire. I want to find and cut into the wire where the arrow points. once I cut it I would attach the top cut to the output (terminal 87) of the relay and the wire on the bottom of the cut would then hook to the terminal 85 or 86 on the relay. So, where in the real world harness do I make this cut?
25. I have in perfect condition the Jack Daniels Old No 7 headlight visor and passing lamp visors off my 2nd gen. I'm looking to swap them out for a plain set. To my knowledge, Ronnie, the previous owner had used Harley spot lights as his driving lights. They appear to be the same size as the Yamaha ones but I can't verifiy that the passing visors will fit. If anyone is willing to trade for the whole set, or even just the headlight visor let me know. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk86/jason1gp/venture/IMG_1924.jpg
