  1. Some background first. I have a 99 Venture. Early last year I was having charging issues and ended up putting in a new stator (buckeye), new stock rectifier, and new battery. Had no issue the rest of the year. The bike was stored under a porch this winter, so it was exposed to New England cold all winter. I didn't have a way to hook up my battery tender so the battery did unfortunately drain dead. I charged it with my trickle charger until it was full a few weeks ago. I've only ridden the bike half a dozen times this year. The problem I'm having has happened to me twice now within the past few weeks, and it happened after the bike sat for 4 or 5 days. When I turn the igition into the on position I can see my trip odometer and it is where it last was and the clock is set correct. When I start the bike it seems the electricity is lost to the dash and my clock and trip odometer reset. I assume my stations all reset too. Did a voltage test. Bike off - 12.6 Ignition on - still roughly 12.6 While starting - drops to 9.7 With throttle - 13.8 So it appears to me that maybe I have a dead cell. I'm just not positive if that voltage drop is too much while starting the bike. My connections at the battery seem good. Is there something else I should check or should I just go get a new battery?
  2. If you see a sort of short 1LT over there with a Fargason nametape and a 1st ID patch, tell Josh he owes you an ice cream and I will pay him back when he comes home. Yeah I know it is a big country, but weirder things have happened. Stay safe.
  3. My commute to work is about 7 miles and usually takes 15 or 20 minutes depending on traffic. This morning was no exception. However, when I left work this evening, it was 67 miles and took an hour and a half. Just can't figure it out... http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/Black%20Beauty/Sunset030111.jpg Gotta love a nice sunset!
  4. There were two nuns One of them was known as Sister Mathematical (SM) , and the other one was known as Sister Logical (SL ). It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent. SM: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for the past thirty-eight and a half minutes? I wonder what he wants. SL: It's logical. He wants to **** us. SM: Oh, no! At this rate he will reach us in 15 minutes at the most! What can we do? SL: The only logical thing to do of course is to walk faster.. A little while later... SM: It's not working. SL: Of course it's not working. The man did the only logical thing. He started to walk faster, too. SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute. SL: The only logical thing we can do is split. You go that way and I'll go this way. He cannot follow us both. So the man decided to follow Sister Logical. Sister Mathematical arrives at the convent and is worried about what has happened to Sister Logical. Then Sister Logical arrives. SM: Sister Logical! Thank God you are here! Tell me what happened! SL: The only logical thing happened. The man couldn't follow us both, so he followed me SM: Yes, yes! But what happened then? SL: The only logical thing happened. I started to run as fast as I could and he started to run as fast as he could. SM: And? SL : The only logical thing happened. He reached me.. SM : Oh, dear! What did you do? SL : The only logical thing to do. I lifted my dress up. SM : Oh, Sister! What did the man do? SL: The only logical thing to do. He pulled down his pants. SM: Oh, no! What happened then? SL : Isn't it logical, Sister? A nun with her dress up can run faster than a man with his pants down. And for those of you who thought it would be dirty,
  5. Harley Davidson Recently announced a joint effort with Lexus to develope a VROD trike. The manufacturing process is said to be unconventional and the first time anything like this has been attempted. P.S. This happened about a year ago near work, no one was injured believe it or not.
  6. So I just get done an 800 km ride from alberta into bc. The bike is running good but not great...it feels a bit low in power. Yesterday I decide to take off the aircleaner and have a look at how things are working. It turns out, one of the slides isn't moving. I take the diaphragms out and one has come completely apart. This is the second carbon this has happened on so I take all the diaphragms out and a third inevitable is loose as well. It is an easy fix to glue them back together. Now, it runs like it should. Check those darned slides, folks.
  7. I re soldiered the connections on the circuit board for the class system errors I was getting, re installed the unit hooked up the battery turned the key to acc, the controller came on no errors showing sounds great so far but read on , switched it to manual and pushed increase, all the power on the bike went away except to the controller? I have no power to anything else. what the heck happened? I checked all the fuses, the main fuse looks ok through the window but it could be bad where I can't see it at.
  8. I'm gonna be a Dad! We're Pregnant!
  9. My bike with 17k miles has developed a spongy clutch lever problem and bike won't go into neutral. This has all happened in less than a week. Don't see any leaks and clutch reservoir is full. Any thoughts?
  10. needed cb antenna black part up, well got one from someone here, what I need is help unsrcewing the black part up, able to unsrcew top part but bottom won;t turn but a little bit. black part is just plastic, very thin, easy to break, I think thats what happened to cause me to lose it. spray wd 40 down tube it to loosen it up??? any ideas out there
  11. i happened to stop at my kawasaki dealer yesterday to look at the new victories again. when i was leaving , there happened to be a new kaw jet ski by the front door. i asked my salesman what size motor it had, just out of curiosty. he said 260 horsepower supercharged 1500 cc with 1500 pounds of thrust. blew my mind. any one ever ride one of these things? it must be awesome. where does it end?
  12. This happened a couple of weeks ago. Ya just never know what is coming at ya!!!! This happened in Northern New Brunswick, Canada. LAC-BAKER - A 59-year-old man is dead following a bizarre motorcycle accident this week in Lac-Baker, near Edmundston. The Mounties said Thursday that the man died Wednesday afternoon when his bike was struck by an unattended pickup truck that rolled out of a driveway and onto Route 120. The driver of the truck apparently left his vehicle, believing it was safely parked. The truck will undergo a mechanical inspection. The victim's name has not been released.
  13. Hope someone gets a smile or two out of this! Do Dogs go to Heaven? Hysterical ! Absolutely unreal that this actually happened! These two churches face each other acrossa busy street. http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.2&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.3&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.4&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.5&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.6&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.7&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.8&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.9&fid=Inbox&inline=1 http://f564.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f1659405%5fAFZv%2fNgAAYLvTCjX3wWkHUjRkxs&pid=2.10&fid=Inbox&inline=1
  14. Well it fianlly happened, second gear has been popping out, well when I left for work this morning went to shift into third gear and it wouldnt go in, downshifted to second, no problem, down to first no problem, went back up through the gears, still will not go into third, had to turn around and get the other scoot out to go to work, glad it didnt happen after I got halfway there. I have been knowing I needed the split washer fix, well now looks like I am forced into it, thank goodness I have the other bike to ride, the bummer is finally got everything working right on the 1st gen, and this happens, guess I will start tearing it down either this weekend or next. I will have to go back and find that excellent tech article about doing "The Fix". At least this is the last thing that needs to be done to make her good again!!! Got to get some help over to pull the engine out, maybe I can get 86er and Wingman to help in that area, maybe between the 3 of us we can geterdone.
  15. I fixed the cracks in my trunk lid (I hope) and was reconnecting the wiring for the vanity mirror and the tail light when I noticed that there was a crimp in one of the wires where it was pinched by the lid. This has happened before on my bike. Anyone have a good way to protect this wiring and give it the flexibility it needs to open and close the lid? Iowa Guy
  16. hope all are doing well! been some bad weather this week, several killed in ms and many injured. twisters hit al tonight, don't know what all happened yet. it's that time of year right now, so be safe!
  17. So I rode my bike to work yesterday... A little chilly in the morning, but gorgeous on the way home... Even took the long way home. (20 mile detour.) Right before I got home, I stopped to top off the tank, and reset the trip meter (as I always do) then it happened... I turned the key back on, and switched back from trip to Odometer and WTF?!?!?! MY MILEAGE IS RESET TO ZERO! Now, my bike is clean, but not THAT clean! I checked to make sure it wasn't some fluke, and that I wasn't reading the trip meter, when I got home, I reset the trip again, and sure enough I have 3 miles on my bike now. Great. I already have a company that will fix it for $55 if I ship it to them with a bunch of paperwork, and that's what I had to do the last time, (yeah it has happened before) but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. As a computer tech, my only thoughts are that somehow something is grounding out, or had voltage sent to it in a bad way that might have reset some type of EEPROM that holds the mileage. I hate to replace the ENTIRE wiring harness, but I guess I don't have much of a choice, unless it's something in the gauge cluster? Any thoughts? Maybe I should just buy another cluster instead? I don't want to just let it keep resetting, I'm not fond of felony fraud.
  18. Just had my oil changed and went with synthetic (Mobile1 20-40). After 200 miles the whine is noticeably worse. I thought that the syn might actually help quiet the clutch basket (I assume that's where the whine originates?), but it seems the opposite has happened. Has this happened to anyone else? My new slip-ons don't begin to compensate for the increase in whine. Any ideas? Is my only choice to go back to Dino? Thanks!
  19. stopped to fill up and after that I had neither speedo nor odometer. No funky noises implying impending doom, it just quit. The connector on the wheel was not tight but that didn't help, and the cable housing is not falling down. Now I thought the odo was electronic, so what might have happened to crash both? Panel light are still working. If someone has a spare or a spare cable and is going to the Ga MD let me know. In case you didn't see it in my sign on, it's a '83 royale. Thanks.
  20. Ok, What happened to the thread about the glocks? Got interrested in this thread, went back and it disappeared.
  21. Getting ready to jump in the shower, no water!!!:scratchchin: First thing going through your head is, is the water bill paid? Answered that by looking at the meter going 90mph . Must have caught it right after it happened 'cause I don't have a lake anywhere yet, It's raining cats and dogs , guess I'll tackle that in the a.m. Bummer, I hate getting dirty:bang head:
  22. Hi every one hope you all had a GREAT Xmas and Top NEW YEARS This post is for, I have a clicking noise coming from the rear of my bike, it happens only when I move my bike with the motor not running. Has this happened to any of your bikes? If so what was the problem and what was the way it was fixed. Thanks PIPER FROM ADELAIDE SOUTH AUSTRALIA
  23. I've been noticing lately that posts seem to be bordering or crossing the line of "PG rated" .... what happened? Did we drop that rule?? Or am I just getting overly pikky in my old age and imagining this?
  24. As you may know I recently changed the rear tire. Took both bags off and had to disconnect the CD player. Now I have no audio. All other electrics seem to be fine. I disconnected the CD player and still no audio. Checked the "audio" fuse (behind the lower fairing) and it is good. Any thoughts? I thought I may have shorted something, but apparently since the fuse is good that is not the case. Just thought this may have happened to someone else. Thanks.
  25. What happened to your Hokies Thuesday night? Did they lose to the lowly Tarheels? Naw, no way that could have happened. Not in Blacksburg, their home turf. I just couldn't resist hacking on you a little bit, us 'Heels fans don't get to brag too much during football season. Now basketball season is a whole different story!! Dave
