  1. It was great weather, great roads, great friends and a great crowd. What more is there to say?
  2. Valerie and I made it home around noon today from the Southern Indiana weekend. Thanks to Joe (Freesyrider) and Donna for organizing the weekend. Although it was a bit cool yesterday we had a great time and met new and old friends and shared good food. What more could you ask for? Dennis
  3. Hey Friends I ride alot but Im going on my first long ride (750) one way. Any advice?
  4. :biker:Do you name your bike(s)? If so.... what is its / their name? I've never came up with a name to stick mine with, but many of my friends have named theirs...
  5. Man, I have so many things to do be4 I'm off to Cody. Seems like every time I scratch one item off the list, two more take it's place. I'm leaving early in the AM on the 10th, and it looks like I'll be bringing the '83. There's just too many issues to deal with on the '91 to get it 'trust' worthy. I'll be trailering part of the way...or maybe even all the way?? Depends on how I feel when I get to my daughters in Idaho on Friday night. At this time I'm not even sure if I'll be bedding down at the 6 in Twin Falls, or borrowing a couch a bit farther north at the ranch. One thing I do know is I've been wanting to ride the Yellowstone, Chief Joseph, Bear's Tooth for a long time and this will probably be my last chance. The wheels on the Ventures will be gobbling up highway for a long time to come, but mine have started to get a little gimpy over the last couple of years. The walking stick and Motrin are my friends... It's not all doom and gloom though. I'm getting excited and amd looking forward to spending some time in a great riding area with some awesome friends. BRING IT!!!!!!
  6. A few days ago I emailed back and forth with one of our newer members, ProudDad (Barry) from White Pigeon Michigan. Since we are only about a half-days ride from White Pigeon, I told him that if he was ever in our area to look us up. Last evening we went to a friend's house about 8 miles from home for a bonfire. One of those "Just sit around and chat" evenings. Not sure what time it was but my phone rang....didn't recognize the incoming number....and it was ProudDad calling from the convenience store 2 blocks from my house! They had the day off and just started riding, ended up down here. So I gave him directions to our bonfire and they rode on out and joined us. What GREAT folks! Barry and his sweetie Julie were just the most "real" down to earth people you could expect to meet. Just got their bike a few weeks ago and still getting to know it and enjoying riding together after raising the family (kinda like a lot of us here). We sat around the bonfire for awhile talking, then went in the house and played some cards. OH...I should say that the friends whose house we invaded are riders (Vulcan 2000) but not VR members even though they've been on a couple VR events with me. Long story short, Barry and Julie ended up staying overnight with my friends. No need to pay for a motel when among friends, right? Then this morning we met them for breakfast, came back to the house and did some minor adjustments on the air levels in the shocks and talked over some other maintenance things. Barry and I switched bikes and went for a short ride.....my wife says our bikes are "Fraternal twins"....same colors but different color patterns. Barry and Julie left at 11:15 headed north. Just talked to him awhile ago and they were 40 miles from home after having ridden in rain most of the way. This has been an enjoyable experience.....those of you in lower Michigan/Northern Indiana, I have some advice for you. Look up Barry and Julie, introduce yourselves and get to know them. They'll enrich your lives! I've attached some pix so you can recognize them when you see them.
  7. Well me and Mrs. Bubber had a great time at the PIP. Met some of our friends from last year and met a few new friends this year. We got there Friday after noon after a leisurely ride up to La Porte from North Branch MN. We were pulling my home made tear drop trailer that I modified this year to make it shorter, so I had it pretty well stuffed with camping and other supplies for the weekend. We got to catch up early on the BSing and helping out where we could. I think more BSing than help though. When we pulled in someone had stole my favorite reserved camping spot right next to the chicken coupe........ I knew right away that it was my friend Rocket. LOL I guess he wanted to get up early and was trying to hog the rooster for himself...... Like that was going to work. Mr. Rooster made his presence known each and every morning before daylight. He must have been in the hen house entertaining his ladies friends because when I pointed the shotgun out of the tent he was no where to be seen. LOL. People started to arrive and the BSing began, There was a lot of talk about bikes and who was coming and who was late and why or if they were even going to make it. Thankfully they all made it safe and sound. People started staking out their area and the tents went up faster than you could say Jack Robinson. Soon the fire was going and the BS flying and we settled in for the lies and BSing and jokes we all came to expect while enjoying each other company. A great first night. Unfortunately our guest of honor was delayed a little along with the chef. After much preparation and love stirred in to the pot somewhere around 8-9 or 10 Black Owl said the chili was ready to taste test, heck that didn't take long for a line to begin forming. Well lets just say I was glad they were camped over in the tree compound area. Great start to the food and coming together of a combination of old and new friends. Saturday was a ride to the falls and around the magnificent lakes in the area. I forgot just how beautiful northern Minnesota is. Well we missed the Dairy Queens but found a liquor store on the way back to the LaPorte headquarters. The pig was almost ready Chris and his assistants had slaved over the guest of honor all day turning and basting and keeping a watchful eye on Mr. Pig. All I can say is that it was cooked to perfection, it was juicy and tender and it went down great with all the other side dishes of salad and macaroni salad, potato salad, cole slaw and some concoction of beans that we all said was the greatest beans we had ever eaten. Great job by all our chefs. As you can guess there was a lot of OOOOOhing and AAAAHing and just plain rubbing their stomachs from eating to much, me included. What could possible top this off? A camp fire, a little adult beverage and a cigar surrounded by your new and old friends swapping lies, telling stories and acting smart. What a great ending to the day. Here is where the real appreciation comes in: Black Owl for his great skill at cooking each and every day. He is a real talent. Chris for his skills at keeping Mr. Pig in the cooker and roasting him to perfection. Gary and Ann for there willingness to share their home with all of us. Will and Elizabeth for the organizing, web site and all the behind the scene stuff we don't actually see, and the cigars. To all the others who pitched in and didn't ask for or receive acknowledgement we all thank you. Unfortunately Mrs. Bubber and I had to leave to go to her brother's house about 100 miles away so we didn't get to share what went on Sunday night. Headed home from BIL house Monday and we stopped to fill with gas about 80 miles away and I noticed and oil leak. I couldn't pin point the leak and it wasn't real bad. Rode another 20 miles and stopped again to double check it. As I was riding the 20 miles I kept thinking about the leak and where it could be coming from . I had never heard anyone talk about the RSV leaking oil from the motor. Sure enough it hit me what it was. I got out my wrenches and the fitting on the bottom of the motor where the oil line to the gauge come from was loose. Waalaa …..that was it and other than the oil on the bottom of the bike all was good. We made it home. Picked up the dog from the sitters and vegged out the rest of the night. We had a great time and wouldn't miss it for the world. Thanks to all that helped put it on, attended and sponsored it. I have attached some pictures for all to see.( all left to right) # 1 Group BSing # 2 MinnMac (Al), Renate, Mrs Bubber # 3 Mrs Bubber, Bubber (LuAnn & Steve) at water falls # 4 John & Red1 # 5 Gordy, Laura, and smoking a cigar if Marilyn # 6 Bubber, AL, John, Red 1 # 7 Red1 Guest of honor (Mr. Pig) and Kris the chef People I can remember in attendance Black Owl Gary and Ann Bubber and Mrs Bubber Al and Renate Gordy and Laura Rick and Mariyln (sarge46) Lowel Alan Yupper John Red1 Starbog Rocket Will and Elizabeth (Jugglar and Tigress) Eagleeye (Steve) Please add in the ones I missed! 11. Okay, showing my dummy side here. I'm leaving for my 30 day ride this Saturday and would like to post pictures and maybe a few lines once in a while for friends and family to follow me. Any suggestions on sites that are user friendly? Thanks
  12. Well, I finally did it. We had the annual Croftonbrook ( housing for low income seniors) BBQ today. It is 110 degrees F in the shade today. After hauling chairs etc I took the truck home and went back on the bike. The only place to park was on a grassy slope which was actually very dry straw. As you guessed my foot went out and the bike veerrry sloooowly went over. No hope of stopping it. Only damage was to my ego. I picked it up but not before about 130 people, almost all of whom know me, pointed out my goof. Later that night got a call, some friends for Australia are arriving tomorrow, with several of their friends, 8 in all, for the night. Janet says she is moving out and may come back next week.
  13. I miss my cheap friends. I had a couple of friends that the only comunication was on this site and now thay are gone. None of them were hurting for money so I don't get how $12.00 would have killed them. I guess some people just want everything for free. Sorry for the rant I just miss my cheap friends.:sign **** happens:

  16. Dear friends. I would like to thank all of you that attended "Maintenance Day" for your warmth and welcome you represented to me when I was in your beautiful country last June. Like I have said none of you could ever imagine how much this meant to me and how comfortable you all made me feel. I had no doubts that this club had great people but I have to say that you guys are simply the greatest ever. Everbody were so friendly and I have made so many good friends and am just overwhelmed. I lack words to explain how thankful I am and I thank God that he guided me to this club and all of you people. May you all ride safe and I hope that I will have the oppurtunity to meet you all again in the coming years. Warmest greetings from Iceland (Greenland at the moment). Jonas - StarFan
  17. We had a good time and many thanks to Don and Eileen for another great Maint day weekend. It was great to meet with old friends and make new ones.I hope everybody has a safe trip home. See ya at the Skid Inn.
  18. Freezyrider just called me with the news that one of our friends just crashed near Madison, In. Joe and Donna, Kevine (Leadwolf56) and Sue, Lynn and Janice and John and Teresa left Lexington this morning on their way home and they hit a slick spot near Madison and John and Teresa went down and hit a guard rail. They think Teresa may have a broken leg and they are at the hospital in Madison as I write this. Please remember them in your prayers this Memorial Day. Thanks, Dennis
  19. Just wondering if any of you live close to the Lexington, KY horse farm area. We rode with a group to that area about 5-6 years ago and just cruised some of the back roads and took in the beautiful horse farms (with barns that put most mansions to shame!). We also toured the Keeneland (?) race track. Anyway, I'm thinking of putting together a little ride for some friends (and anyone else who would want to meet up) this spring back to that area. When I was there before someone else was leading and I basically paid no attention to the routes we took. Anyone have any suggestions of roads/routes that we just shouldn't miss? Any other things we should see while we're there? Thanks, Joe
  20. Someone had posted a message back a while ago about some friends that were coming state side for a bike trip and would be needing a trailer.. Lot Number of the unit in my sale flyer is Number 66771 Hope this helps someone. 'Puc
  21. First off, thanks to Bill and Linda for a great time! Thanks to all of our old and new friends that showed up! Posted about 120 pics to the photobucket acct. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/St%20Charles%20M%20and%20E%202009/
  22. I just got a call about this. The guy who was riding the motorcycle is a friend of mine and we were co-workers for many years. It will be awhile before I find out his condition but his grand-daughter was killed. I've always felt that these kind of postings had the benefit of keeping all of us on our toes to watch out for the cars out there. Never thought I'd be one of those guys making the post. Be careful out there my friends.... Bob http://www.krem.com/topstories/stories/krem2-051109-crash-victim-father.177ad9e2.html
  23. Does anyone have extra pillow seat front and back. A couple of friends want them for their RSTD's? tew47
  24. Two friends got hit from behind while stopped at traffic lights. One was hit at fifty mph, the girl was talking on the cell phone and did not brake before she hit him. The other was hit at slow speed but fled the seen. He was caught a mile away, no insurance and hit a run, maybe he might have learned a lesson about hit & run. Both friends are alright. tew47
  25. Hello Friends: My brother and I are planning a trip to Maine this August via PA,NJ,NY,CT,MA,VT,NH,ME. Just wanted to know if there are any spots along the way that are a must see or visit. We will be gone around 8-9 days and hope that my new friends here on the web can give me some advice as to places to visit, ride suggestions, or anything else we should consider for this trip. No such thing as a bad suggestion, we are always open to any and all ideas! Thanks, Steve
